The Gateway 16 is one of the few places in Austin that shows Digital 3D movies, and they know it by the prices they charge. Today, as luck would have it, we went to go see Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. I got this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when the ticket girl said, "I think we just sold out", then quickly followed by "No, I got you in". I was about to tell her forget it right there, because I knew the theater had to be packed, but we took a chance anyway because it was hot out and we'd already found the remote parking lot around the side of the theater. Sure enough, the theater was packed. Tons of screaming children, and no two seats together short of the whiplash seats down front. We both refused this unique opportunity to experience 3D. The manager very politely told us to go back to the ticket line and there would be no problem with the refund. To their credit, there was no problem, just a name, signature, and phone number. But, we lucked out after all. An hour later, we saw the same movie at the Galaxy Highland 10 for $1.25 less a ticket and in a mostly empty theater, with wider aisles and more comfortable seats and nearly no children. Regal Gateway is OK, I just wish we hadn't gone through the agony of buying tickets in a packed theater only to have to go back for a refund. But this was opening weekend, so that was to be expected. read more

I normally take my family to Alamo Drafthouse, but wanted to see Sound of Freedom. The theater could use some updating, but they seem to be willing to screen great films that don't get picked up by other theaters. While I would love for them to upgrade their seats, I appreciate them screening important works like Sound of Freedom. read more

Got the Regal Pass but all three movies I've seen at this theater had very low audio. Almost sounds like they turned the bass down. I talked to an employee after the movie about this issue and they said to let the staff know when I have the issue next time. Meaning, I need to interrupt my movie experience to tell them to soundcheck, which should be a standard procedure for them before screenings. In addition to low audio, the rows are so tight that you have to scuttle across seats. It's sad that this is the only Regal theater north of the river. read more

Not too crazy about their IMAX prices. Paid $20 a ticket only to find out their IMAX screen is quite small. I've been to other non-IMAX screens that are bigger (and paid nowhere near $20). Thank god the film played with no issues. Seats weren't too comfortable either. Probably won't visit too often. read more

This is the first movie theater I've been to in Austin, and it's pretty standard. We bought our tickets at one of those little touch screen ticket machines, which was a breeze to use. We didn't bother looking at the concessions stand so I can't comment on anything there (but what's new, they're all overpriced anyway, right?). The theater we sat in had reasonably comfortable seats, but nothing particularly special except for the fact that you can lift the armrest and still have a cupholder. But the main issue I had was that the lights stayed on for the entirety of the movie. Is this normal here?? The lights didn't dim so there was no transition going from the trailers to the beginning of the movie. I was hoping they would fade at some point, but nope. And it's not like I was about to walk out and miss part of the movie I paid $11/ticket for just to tell somebody. It was a bit distracting and took away from the overall film viewing experience. Hopefully it was just an anomaly and the experience will be better next time if there's something I really want to see here. read more

This theater doesn't provide courtesy cups for water and will gouge you for a bottle. Don't give these crooks your money.

I've been to regal on multiple occasions! This last time was the worst, the line for the snack line was ridiculous. The boy at the counter seem to not know anything about the reward system and didn't give the Tuesday discount. Everything was out from ice cream, to smoothie machine broken, to only one icee flavor available. People come to movies to enjoy their time and have some delicious snack options to go along with it. I definitely will continue to give my business elsewhere. read more

This is my go-to north Austin theater for new releases. The popcorn is excellent. The theaters are stadium seating with comfy seats. It's crazy busy on the weekends, so get there early to navigate their inadequate parking lot. Overall, a really good place for movies. read more

It's a big, chain-style theater with ample parking and pretty comfy seats. Everything else is what you'd expect. Overly-expensive drinks and snacks. The theaters are way too cold. The sound and screens are plenty nice enough, but not so much as to be stunning. The floors are usually clean enough (read: not sticky), but have some crud on them as expected. The one nice part is that the armrests go up and down so you can get close to your date. read more

A pleasant theater which exceeded my expectations in some ways. This theater appears to have a properly maintained projector, meaning that the screens are reasonably well lit, and I didn't stick to the floor when I went to my seat. A couple of items do mar the experience enough to knock it back a star or two; the snack prices are a bit higher here than other places, the traffic in this little knot of an area between the 1, 183 and the 360 is horrific, and some of the seats are getting worn (mine slumped forward a degree or two, which made me have to straighten up a few times during a film). read more

Guys... This theater charges $12.33 for an adult ticket.... Alamo Drafthouse charges like $11. Why would I pay more for a crappy seat and bad service? I came here to watch A Quiet Place with my mom. I regretted it immediately. As soon as we found a seat and sat down, I could barely see!! The seats have almost no elevation... it's ridiculous. I'm 5'3 and the fact that I had to sit up straight to see the full screen made me upset. I will never come back to this theater. Like I said earlier, Alamo is cheaper, you can reserve your seats ahead of time, and you can see the screen regardless of how short you are! Take your money elsewhere. read more

I most recently went to see Fantastic Beasts 2 with some friends and this location is noticeably outdated. On opening weekend, though, there was still plenty of seating; seating is one thing I've never had an issue with here. Everything is clean(ish), for a theater, and prices are average. Ticket lines aren't long and usually move fairly quickly. I go here because showtimes are convenient, but it would not ever be my first pick. I'm not mad about my experiences but it was thoroughly underwhelming. The seats do not recline (in theatre 8, at least) and were stained and uncomfortable. The floors were quite noticeably tacky. There was a decent selection of snacks but the popcorn tasted like it really needed salt (there was no extra butter flavor either, or if there was it was not easy to find) and everytime I tried to take a sip the Icee just felt like it was made of air. It looked full, but something was very wrong with the consistency. Overall: If you just want to go to a place to watch a movie on the big screen this is a decent place to do it. The overall location and selection of showtimes are convenient. Especially if you: go in expecting to have an average to awkward comfort level, leave your favorite pair of shoes at home and smuggle in your own snacks (pff, what?). https://www.regmovies.com/movies read more

Worst theater I have ever been to. Don't waste your time coming here - seriously. The floors were disgusting!! We had to move around several times to find a place to sit that wasn't filthy. There were ants crawling up one of the chairs and the entire theater reeked of pickle juice. Really upset that I wasted my money. Other regal theaters like Westgate in Austin are so nice, clean, and have awesome recliners. THIS ONE DOES NOT. Very disappointed :( read more

Not sure I understand all the hate the Regal 16 is getting, I've been going here for years and never thought it was that bad. Basically, it's your standard movie theater. Plenty of screens, movie tickets about the price you'd expect, although matinees aren't too bad. There's some arcade games in the lobby if you have a long wait for a movie. The concessions are overpriced as all hell, but that goes for the majority of movie theaters. And, as other people have mentioned, they will do their damndest to sell you as much food and drink as they can. As for the theaters themselves, I've never had a problem with them. Standard amount of seating, decent legroom, good projectors, the usual. Now, maybe I've just been out of town for a while, but last time I was here (which wasn't more than a year ago), I could have sworn the only IMAX theater in Austin was the Bob Bullock. But now I'm reading a bunch of other Yelpers who are talking about Regal 16 having an IMAX! Is this a new addition or am I just the most unobservant person on the planet? read more

This is one of those theaters I visit when all the other ones are full. It's a little out of the way and just a stones throw away from North by North West./ Iron Cactus and Baby A's. Here is the problem I'm spoiled and prefer Alamo DraftHouse. I was pissed they didn't have vitamin water or Gatorade so my drink options were some what limited. Other then that the staff was friendly and the theater seemed clean. read more

This is a theater we frequent often and tonight we enjoyed a prescreening of a movie coming out this weekend. We were in an IMAX theater room we hadn't been in before. This theater's seats are not consistent in each theater room resulting in us enjoying some rooms more than others. We like that the arm rests move and some seating happens to be more comfortable than other rooms. The staff is almost always friendly and like most theaters these days, the food pricing is expensive. They do offer a variety of candy, snacks, ice cream, beer, hot dogs, nachos, and of course popcorn and soda. The restrooms are consistently clean and we have never had an issue in any of their theater rooms with sticky floors or a mess. I've always been happy to walk into an aisle with clean seats, floors, and no mystery goo waiting for me on an arm rest. Overall this is a great theater for a family show, date night, or that single "me time" date we all need. If you're looking for a random theater or one you can consistently count on, this is a great one to choose from. read more

Theater itself is pretty cool, I like the rustic feel to it. The interior design is very Texas looking. I do however think they should change the floors carpet and definitely the seats in the theater. The seats are too close to each other and uncomfortable to get to a seat if there's people already seated. The screen and sound quality were great. When there were quite scenes in my movie you could hear the movie in the next theater pretty clear so that kind of sucked too. Honestly I probably wouldn't return to this location but I visited because I had free ticket vouchers and it's close to home. If they update the seating at least then I'd reconsider. The popcorn was slightly stale but the beer was crisp and smooth read more

I really like this movie theater! I've come several times and every employee I've interacted with has been incredibly nice and welcoming. The first time I came here was for the 2-day Harry Potter marathon event before the first Fantastic Beasts movie came out and it was awesome. It was only like $30 for a unlimited pass to see all the movies. One of my friends bought a ticket to see one of the movies, but then they let her return it/exchange it for the pass instead. They also scheduled 45 minute breaks in between each movie so I would go out and walk around to take a break or go to the Whole Foods to buy some food. The concessions stand food is super expensive. Plenty of parking! The location is great - you can do some shopping at Nordstrom Rack, Whole Foods, Old Navy, etc. or eat at Hanabi! I would say it's on the pricey side though, even the matinee tickets are more than $10 including tax. But if you have MoviePass + the Regal Crown Club card it's pretty sweet! read more

Decided to stop in this movie theater one evening while visiting Austin. I'm used to having theaters where you can reserve seats and with comfortable accommodations. The theater here is big however the seating is not comfortable. Why is this place even open? Though there's no sign, tickets are purchased inside. Issues arises with long lines. The manager was confronted by customers to make him aware of their complaint. The manager did absolutely NOTHING. read more

A decent theater, nothing too amazing or bad about this place. The prices are typical for a movie theater and thankfully they are supported by the Atom app so you can buy tickets in advance. Also, I had read elsewhere that this theater had reclining seats but that wasn't the case for screen 8. read more

I received complimentary tickets from Yelp to see The Call Of The Wild and enjoyed my experience. The movie was great. There was some additional security measures taken because the movie will be released only next week, so we had to turn in our cell phones and was checked with metal detectors. All seats were taken. I attend this movie theater a lot since it's close by. Thankful to Yelp for this experience to see a movie ahead of release. read more

All signs are its ok theatre. It's not bad and very standard through and through. Seats are comfortable enough, screen, picture and sound is fine. Would consider this place again. read more

Not overly impressed. There are many screens at this location, so you have a high chance of being able to see what you want, but pieces of it have fallen behind. With the new IMAX and 4DX options for showings the "standard" screens have missed out on the upgrade to fancy, reclining seats. We went to see Star Wars in (what the internet told us) would be recliners. Instead it was a packed theater with the same seats I remember from 15-20 years ago. Not that those are bad in their own right, but they're disappointing when you expect something else, so watch out for that when you go. Otherwise everything is clean and bright, and the staff we talked to over the phone were helpful. FYI, if you're going to see Star Wars there are 26 minutes of ads, so feel free to take that into account. read more

The rows are super cramped and theatre 7 smells like mildew badly!!! It's more expensive than surrounding theatres, smaller rows and seat. Definitely will NOT come here again. read more

I went and saw Call of the Wild last week through a Yelp event. Unfortunately the experience at this location was not what it was before. The staff was rude. They had limited seating and they didn't care to make the experience better. My main complaint was just that the staff had no respect for the customers. I hope to give it another chance and will update my review if it's any better. If not, the area has many other theaters to choose from. read more

I wish I could give a big fat ZERO. I came here last week to see Oppenheimer on IMAX. the movie was amazing, but our experience at this theater was not. It was my first movie since the pandemic and I am not sure when I will go to another theater again. The movie was scheduled for 11:20am. When the screen came on, we got shocked by absolutely deafening sound for nearly 20 minutes of stupid commercials. I went out to find someone thinking something was wrong. You could hear the sound all the way into the lobby. The kids working there were clueless. An older gentleman told me he had the same experience in another movie. I had my fingers in my ears. Then there were another 15-20 minutes of previews, still insanely LOUD. WHY?!?!?! Oppenheimer started at noon and was loud, but not as loud as the commercials and previews. We saw a man remove his hearing aid! I will skip this theater going forward and think about whether I visit another as a new person to Austin. read more

Worst theatre ever.. I have been here twice.. To start off, it is disgusting and dirty, and overpriced. The lobby is okay and then you get into the theatre and the seats literally are covered in DIRT. Disgusting and smells. Second of all, both times for me have been CREEPY. First time, there was a man coming in and out of the theatre every ten minutes, he was sitting right by us and then would get up and come back weirdest thing ever.. I left bc I felt uncomfortable and called and they did nothing about it.. This time they let you "pick" your seating, it was a movie at 10:30.. one other man came in with us and then another man comes in and comes up to us and SITS RIGHT NEXT TO ME, in an empty theatre! We got up and moved and I just could not relax. Very bad vibes and feelings. We literally had to leave the movie and there was men talking everywhere at 11:15 at night. Weird stuff, doesn't feel safe.. y'all need security honestly. read more

I just want to say this place is terrible. They started selling beer to compete w/ the draft house, but they don't even sell it after when they stop playing movies It smells... commercials... save your money for the Alamo Drafthouse read more

I came here to see Black Panther and bought my tickets in advance online. I bypassed the line and went straight to the...whatever you call the stand where they scan your ticket...and popped into the theater. It was clean and the IMAX screen was amazing, as expected. The bar for movie theaters in Austin is high, but this theater isn't half bad. I've been to a half dozen movies here and have yet to encounter any of the strange smells or issues that others have complained about. Screens, picture, and sound are solid, however the one downside is the seats. The rows are inexplicably close together and the seat backs are entirely fixed. They should really swap the seats for the leather recliners they have at the Westgate theater. Less total seats, but I've yet to ever see this place packed. Also, no reserved seating which is actually a plus when you want to semi-spontaneously see a movie on the weekend. read more

Seats were awful. Dirty, smelly and super uncomfortable. Sound was like I was watching tv at home. Would be 1 star but the staff was nice.

Literally the worst theater in Austin. Save your money. We went to see End Game, they were out of all concessions except popcorn and soda. The screen was dark and out of focus the entire movie and you could barely hear anything the volume was so low. I wish I could give zero stars. read more

Ten minutes into a movie at the Regal Gateway & IMAX, we walked out. The film was dark and blurry....almost unviewable, most likely due to the age/condition of the projector bulb. We drove to another theater and saw the movie as it was meant to be seen. The folks at the Regal are nice, but we won't be back. read more

Well, we are sitting in the theatre and the screen has no picture. About ten people have gone out to get a manager to fix the problem. The manager is hanging out in concessions (with eight or so employees also working) making popcorn and drinks. When I reported the problem, the manager didn't even turn around to address me. Fifteen minutes after the start time, another manager finally made an appearance to tell us they would have it up in ten minutes. Clock is ticking! This place has really gone downhill. read more

Some people are so rude and inconsiderate, they shouldn't be allowed to leave their homes. In fact, they should be chained upside down to stripper poles and given electric shocks. And people who support their behavior should be kept in a dark room with rabid raccoons. NOTE: The above paragraph was only intended to induce laughter, so don't spaz out on me. I would never chain anyone to a stripper pole and give them electric shocks, no matter what they did to me first (unless they have some sort of fetish), and I certainly would never touch a rabid raccoon to put it in a room with anyone. But I can fantasize. I've been to this theater several times over the years, mainly because I like their popcorn way better than Alamo Drafthouse's. I typically go during the day on weekdays so I can get the cheapest price. It's too bad I have to take out a loan every time I come here, though, and that's only for the small popcorn and small drink. But that's beside the point. So I went one day recently to see Little Fockers. (Shut up; it wasn't THAT bad.) There were very few people in the theater, but I stupidly chose to sit in the row in front of two older ladies (I didn't sit directly in front of them; I know my movie-theater manners), only because I wanted to sit in the middle of the theater. Well, these two bitches yakked in normal conversational voice throughout the ENTIRE movie. I wondered if the old broads each needed hearing aids, and that's why they talked so loudly, or if they were just rude, jaw-flapping cows. At one point, my popcorn, drink and I got up and moved a few rows down, but I could still hear the bitches carrying on. I can't believe I was the only person shushing them. But did it do any good? Of course not. It doesn't matter how much money I spent there that day, for they are the Regal queens. Some little court jester like me shushing them can just go fuck herself, apparently. About halfway through the movie, I saw the guy with his little flashlight coming through to make sure we had no weapons, sex toys, or unauthorized candy, so I got up and told him about the two bitches, pointing toward them. They were the only two women sitting together in a theater that included six other people, so it wouldn't have been hard to pick them out. In fact, I could still hear them talking from over there, as could the theater employee. Junior said he'd fetch a manager to take care of it, so I thanked him and retook my seat. Do you think the manager ever came in? If you said no, you're either really smart, or you're just as jaded and cynical a Regal customer as I am. Look, Regal, I may not like Alamo's popcorn, but at least they make a point of telling inconsiderate fucks to shut the fuck up. One warning, and if you do it again... BAM! You're outta there. You Regal idiots should adopt a similar policy. Actually, what you should do is not piss your pants in fear when a customer, who wasted her money trying to watch a movie that she couldn't even concentrate on, asks you to handle a problem. That's part of your job. If you can't do your job, your dumb-ass should be fired and your job given to me, along with all the free popcorn I can eat. ::End rant:: read more
