But to add to everything, it was such a great experience because of their unique Filipino sweet bread with the ABU yeah that they put in all their baked goods and even their coffee! I highly recommend them and everyone working there was totally pleasant and made our coffee's perfect! Ambience was great as well very clean totally loved. I stopped by for coffee and pastries and admired the atmosphere and cultural touches throughout the shop. I came early in the morning, and you could already smell the fresh pastries and the aroma of the coffee as soon as you walked in. DRINK REVIEW Buko Pandan Latte - 4/5 Ube Velvet Latte - 4/5 Sakura (seasonal flavor) with Strawberry Foam - 5/5 I originally got this for my sister, but it ended up being my favorite. PASTRIES Pepperoni Bread - 3.5/5 - Decent. Pandesal with Spam, Egg & Cheese - 3/5 My least favorite, but still decent and kid-friendly. Ube Pandesal with Cream Cheese Filling - 4/5 My favorite pastry of the bunch. Biscoff Ensaymada - 3/5 A bit dense, but the Biscoff butter icing was good. The flavors overall were good, though I personally would've liked the coffee to be a bit stronger. The Sakura Latte definitely stood out the most for me. Overall, this is a solid Filipino coffee shop in VA Beach that's worth checking out if you're in the area.

We were able to use the back room in the cafe that had a large table and provided a cozy setting with lots of natural light coming through the windows and cute macaroon-shaped pillows on the chairs. We had hibiscus tea and peach tea for the table to share. The peach tea was everyone's favorite, it didn't even need any added sugar. It was served in cute pastel teapots, though one of the teapots had a chip at the spout which made me a little nervous. We also had macaroons made in-house for the table. I can't remember if I asked the staff if any of the macaroons were dairy free, but I asked my friends at the table and was told there was dairy in them. I later asked the staff if there was any food they offered that was dairy-free and they showed me their pastry counter but ultimately determined that everything offered had dairy, so all I had while at the café was the tea. The ladies I was with loved the macaroons. I wish I could have had some. I recommend at least 1-2 food options be added in the café for folks who have a dairy allergy. Café Genevieve provides a nice atmosphere for tea with a unique setting -- in a 1734 house that is decked out with Parisian decor. It's not the most private setting -- it got pretty noisy during our time there and there were a few interruptions to our conversation. We should have asked if we could have closed the door, because that definitely would have helped with noise and privacy. Overall, the customer service was great and the tea was really good! If you want to meet here for a private event, conversation, or just want some peace and quiet, that back room with the door closed could provide it. It's a nice café to check out.

The vibe is laid-back and relaxed, and the aesthetic is really cute -- great casual breakfast energy without feeling rushed. The staff was very friendly, and the place was clean, which always makes a difference. The croissant breakfast sandwiches were delicious (pro tip: add egg to the ham and Swiss). The bagels were decent -- not NY level, but still solid. The coffee was good, though they didn't have Splenda on hand, so if that's your thing you may want to bring your own. My son ordered the strawberry smoothie and a chicken wrap -- the wrap was generously sized and he really enjoyed both. Overall, a cozy neighborhood spot with good food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere.

The decor has Polynesian touches, the drinks and food nod to Samoan flavors (like taro and Spam musubi), and you can tell it's a true family business built with a lot of pride and hard work. My friend and I first heard about this spot and literally drove about 25 minutes from Ghent Norfolk over to Bel-Aire Norfolk just to try it out, and it still remains one of our favorite coffee shops in Norfolk. Totally worth crossing town for. On my first visit, I got the Apelu Island Iced Latte, a Taro Cupcake with vanilla icing and toasted coconut, and a Spam Musubi with egg. That combo right there? Dangerous. The latte was smooth and lightly sweet with that pretty taro purple, the cupcake was super moist with the coconut giving it that little crunch on top, and the Spam Musubi with egg was the perfect salty-savory bite to go with my coffee instead of the usual basic breakfast sandwich. Second visit, I pulled back up for their Taro Pumpkin Roll Latte with oat milk (one of their fall specials), and I'm still thinking about it. It tasted like fall but with that island twist; cozy, a little earthy from the taro, and not overly sweet. Just really well-balanced and comforting. The staff has been warm and welcoming every time I've gone in; smiling, chatting with customers, and making it feel like a neighborhood spot even if you drove in from across town. It's the kind of place where you can sit, catch up with a friend, get some work done, or just enjoy your drink and snack without feeling rushed. If you're anywhere in Norfolk and haven't tried Apelu Island Cafe yet, go. From the lattes to the taro treats to the musubi, it's one of those places that makes you want to become a regular. More people need to know about this place.
