10 stars here. My son & I had an amazing time on the 12:30pm snorkeling trip on Sat 7/9. The captain, 1st & 2nd mates were all amazing. They are a true Keys Way snorkeling company! My wife was sick and could not come so they refunded one of our tickets. They really know what they are doing. The catamaran was wonderful. We saw a nurse shark, yellow tail, Sargent Majors, grunts, etc... Also for bottled water they charge a humble fee of $1 per bottle. In fact I paid for 2 and ended up getting 2 more free because they were out of small change. They are a real class act. We will be booking with them again. read more

My family and I went today for the snorkel trip and we were disappointed. When we got to the "snorkel destination" the weather turned and the waves were rough and nobody could see a thing. At that point, we thought the captain would try a different location but that did not happen. I wish some sort of money was refunded because it just wasn't as advertised. read more

Cannot say enough great things about this sunset cruise. The captain and first mate were incredibly friendly and helpful, and their knowledge of the reef and where to snorkel made for great sight seeing underwater. This was a great experience. They provide all of the snorkel gear needed and take you to a beautiful reef with plenty of fish. We saw pear fish, barracudas, rainbow fish, and Dory, just to name a few. Boat was very clean. SERVICE: I'm usually ok in the water, but I ate too soon before going and accidentally swallowed ocean water through my nose while snorkeling, so I got sick! Captain Gary was SO attentive and helpful during my seasickness. Seth, captain's assistant, was also a great help. He went out to get me in the water and dragged me back with a float rescue, but we all still had a blast! WARNINGS: Make sure you don't eat before going out to sea. Also be very careful, accidentally swallowing the sea water will make you sick. For sea sickness, captain said it's best to take over the counter meds (Bonine, Dremamine) the night before about 12 hours before embarking. read more

Sundiver cancelled on us at the last minute and we were having trouble finding anybody else available. Luckily, though we got recommended Reef Roamer and they had a last minute space available for a catamaran snorkeling trip. So they saved our butts! We had planned on going to the Christ with Reef Roamer, but Reef Roamer doesn't go there. They took us to a different location and it was beautiful! Tons of sea life to see including turtles, barracuda, sharks, etc. I've only snorkeled in fairly protected bays in the past without rough water, so I wasn't used to snorkeling in the ocean with somewhat rough conditions. So it was a bit of an adventure. I did end up barfing since I wasn't used to it and chumming the water, but that's my own fault for being weak and swallowing too much saltwater lol. The staff was really cool and friendly, as well as patient in answering my various stupid questions. They really made us feel welcome. Great experience, even with all the barfing. read more

My fiance and I had a great time snorkeling aboard the Reef Roamer's catamaran and it has been one of my best memories to date! It was an amazing time and it's worth every penny. For such a wonderful experience, it was a super deal. Captain Hans and his firstmate Allan were both great! They were very welcoming and both are very knowledgeable. Allan was really helpful with suggestions on where to dine and what to see around the area. He's been helpful with tips on snorkeling and what we could look for when we're in the water. Being on board with Hans and Allan was comforting, they're both skilled seamen. My fiance and I have been snorkeling for years and Allan taught us something that we've been amazed with -- How to have your mask never ever fog. For a long time, I've just been spitting on the inside of my goggles and it would still fog up. I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore. Drinks and snacks were for sale on board but are cash only (they take credit for the cost of the trip and snorkeling gear if you need it). You can bring your own stuff and I suggest bringing a small cooler with a drink or two. We brought beef jerky with us along with a small cooler. After a full afternoon of snorkeling, we were thirsty and hungry but the beef jerky did fine until we were able to get to dinner. Be prepared to use the ocean as your bathroom so "go" before you go on board and I suggest not having a big meal just before a trip, just for generally being limber and ready for an adventure. Call them to reserve your spots ahead of time. This could be a really romantic and adventurous thing to do with someone special. My fiance and I happen to be aboard with everyone else who were a couple near our age so it worked out for us. Be honest when they ask if you have never been snorkeling before or if you don't know how to swim. I can't see how any of us could drown (but any idiot will take up that challenge), it was very shallow water and unless you're weighed down somehow, you should be floating with minimal effort on your part. But not to worry if you have never been or don't know how to swim. Soak up the sun, enjoy the sea breeze, love life! read more

We went snorkeling with Reef Roamer while on vacation and had a great time. The captain was very nice and gave us lots of information on the local fish and reef. We ran across the street to the restroom, but on the way back a hotel employee swiped us into the private restrooms outside. The 12:30 trip we took was for two hours of water time and we got to explore two different reefs - it was a great deal. We booked online and they called to confirm our reservations and then gave us free gear rental. The crew was VERY clear that we were to touch nothing and how devastating the impact of standing on the reef would be. We saw tons of snapper, angels and barracuda. read more

They had a good supply of rx mask. I was able to see what was going on and not getting lost in the ocean!! So at 10am this morning, as well as yesterday afternoon, we received confirmations that we would be going out today. At 10:09am we received notice that the trip was canceled. I did not see this as I was in the middle of our two hour drive to take part. The reason was due to hazardous sea conditions, which is surprising due to no call for bad weather in the area (we checked before we left) snd 10mph and winds, which I'm fairly certain is perfectly fine for a catamaran (having been ASA certified). Incredibly disappointing in how it was handled, and while a refund was issued and I imagine would have been a great experience, we were left scrambling for an alternate plan. May be awesome, but is it worth taking a chance? read more

Even though the snorkeling was a bust, the Reef Roamer crew managed to show us a good time. They called the morning of to give us the option of cancelling due to high winds. We decided to risk it, and I'm glad we did. Seth took us out snorkeling and although we didn't see many fish, we got a good workout swimming against the current. I loved the music mix the captain played and they gave us rum punch on the way back as a consolation, since snorkeling wasn't great. I am a Scuba Diver. However, my mom is my dive buddy and she lives in Michigan. I only Snorkel sometimes because my fiancee has problems with her ears. Also, when I have to pay, snorkeling is nice because it is quite a bit cheaper. I own all my own dive gear, but it always costs a pretty penny to go on a dive trip. We came down for a quick Birthday celebration and stayed at the Suites at Key Largo by the Key West Inn. Great place to stay for the price, check out my review. Well, the Reef Roamer is right down the road. You could walk there if you wanted. We opted to drive because we had to head back to Tampa after snorkeling, but figured the info was helpful to the rest of the Yelpers trying to make trip plans. Reef Roamer was great. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable. The told us about some other the other nearby dive sites, some of which I had been to before (like Molasses Reef). They had decent gear, even though we had our own, my fiancee used their flippers and was more than happy. The reef they took us to was great. Depth between 1ft and 2ft, perfect for snorkeling. Saw some barracuda, squid, trumpet fish, and tons of other fish that swarm Pennekamp like parrotfish. Out of all my times scuba diving, I have never seen squid swimming around. I saw a whole school of squid. It was really cool. The barracuda was also one of the biggest that I have even seen. There was maybe 2 ft waves and some current, but the parked the boat down current, so it was a little more difficult to get out to the good snorkel portion of the reef, but a very easy swim back to the boat. The latter/stairs to get back onto the boat was so easy. Everything was so much easier than scuba diving (which is a good thing for my fiancee and a MEH! thing for me). Nevertheless, the colors were brilliant and anything that has to do with the water makes me very happy. It was a great birthday and for all those that are uncomfortable with diving but still want to see the natural underwater beauty of Pennekamp, Reef Roamer is a good bet. read more

The crew was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. Sam went out of her way to make sure we had a great time. We had our 16 year old and two year old along for the trip and Sam made sure we had all to right gear so our two year old could snorkel with us. It was a great trip and well worth the price! We had a full hour to snorkel. The boat ride to the reef and back was about twenty minutes each way. We will definitely do this again when we visit the Keys next year! read more

The crew made it spectacular, from the woman at the checkin counter to mate Seth to the captain, all together they made it a memorable trip, silly jokes and all. They were professional and fun. I especially enjoyed going out on a catamaran vs a regular power boat, it was much more fun. And they had great music playing. Any company bring you out there snorkeling, but it's the people who ring you who make the difference. Seth, look for us at Cashman Park next time you're back home. read more

We went on a catamaran snorkeling trip. They told us that it was a rough condition, even though we decided to go. The lady that spoke to us on the phone, helped us to make the reservation and the other one that checked us in, they were very friendly and nice. The captain and Chad are the best! They really want to make sure you are having a great time and they would do what they can to make that happen. The Captain took us to two places to snorkel. He really knows the area. What an amazing trip, so beautiful! We saw reef, lots of fishes, shark, jelly fish, etc. It is a large catamaran boat and they provide the equipment. Highly recommend. read more

Great experience! The sea was rough so we couldn't go to the 2 places they stop so we stayed on one place for 2 hrs. The captain and shipmate Casey were very nice and informative. I normally get sea sick easy but this boat ride was great even in rough seas. It's a huge catamaran, wide and spacious. Great experience for the price compared to others. You can rent snorkeling geat. For a family of 4 it cost us about $160 plus tipping the shipmate. read more

Met up with three cousins for a total of seven and we had a blast! Technical issue with TripAdvisor when we checked in but he lovely gal at the counter was quick to solve AND was willing to refund the amount and comp the evening snorkel! All worked out and we made the 12:30 after all. The skipper was great and Logan was super attentive and made sure everyone was good, even the couple that had sea sickness. The water was a little rough but still fun for all. At the second stop a HUGE spotted eagle ray cruise right below us! Haven't seen one for decades and it was magnificent. Highly recommended! I had an absolute blast with the Reef Roamer crew! They were very knowledgeable and helpful! I personally have gnarly anxiety but I don't let it get in the way of exploring and experiencing new things. The captain took the time to prep me through concentrating on my breathing before I even put on my mask or got in the water to ensure I would enjoy my snorkeling adventure. I'll start by saying my wife has been reef snorkeling in Mexico while on a cruise and was perfectly happy to never snorkel again, until we came here. We did a sunset snorkel and they took us to White Banks reef. The boat is clean, and Eric and Seth are a great captains. Very entertaining and professional. We were the only boat at the reef and it was AMAZING! It was full of every fish I could and could not name, and tons of coral species. All with plenty of room to maneuver and no bumping in to each other. On the way back we also were served a great adult beverage while we watched the sunset. Eric maneuvered the boat towards a pod of dolphins so we could watch them play and breach (he still kept a respectful, safe distance too). They may be a few dollars higher than other places, but you'll be SOOO happy you invested those dollars in this trip. DO IT!! read more

My husband booked this snorkel trip. It was a very windy morning and the seas were quite rough. The crew promised a good time anyway. They did tell us up front that we probably wouldn't be able to snorkel but we took and chance and we weren't disappointed the crew worked very hard to show us a good time and make it worth the trip! Friendly but not great. Chose them because they advertise catamarans that you would think they sail:... nope, it's just a power boat like anyone else. They have the sail option, but don't use it even with wind. Their were other boats out there sailing, not us. They also overloaded the boat. People didn't have places to sit. No rules on the reef. Guests were standing on coral, and hitting the coral with their fins. They didn't know any better because no one told them not to. People were also applying spray sunscreen on the boat making it slippery, and sunscreen just before jumping Into the ocean over the reef. So the sunscreen washes off onto the reef when you don't apply well before getting into the water. Didn't seem to care about protecting the reef as they let about anything go. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Great time Snorkling .. and it's a fun boat to travel in with the punch they gave us on the way back. So easy to get in and out that it makes us want to continue the experience! So the weather was less than favorable and they have the unfriendliest lady verbally assaulting the grouponers for not bringing the printed groupons and demanding cash but once my bf and i were aboard the Reef Roamer things changed. The captain and the first mate were very different from Helen the Barracuda ( i don't know if thats her name, i just think her name should be Helen the Barracuda since she has the charm of a car salesman born in the 9th circle of hell). Choppy weather and angry barracuda lady aside we had a blast and saw many flourescently coloured parrot fish and sea fans to contrast the murky water. You have to wear a vest and look like an oceanic dork but you can't beat the equipment rental included if you don't happen to own flippers and a good mask. I'll definitely go again, thats how nice it was. I set aside Helen, she's probably a part owner since the captain was getting an earful as we were departing and i have reason to believe it was that angry lady complaining about how everyone was late for the 9am snorkel. Calm down Helen. Life isn't that horrible. This is a great morning activity and a refereshing getaway if you want to get out of the city and get oceanic. read more

Wow. I have never been more upset or disappointed about a reservation made ahead of time. My relatives came down from Connecticut and wanted to try out snorkeling. We booked a morning reservation for the day after they flew in to West Palm Beach, days in advance. We woke up at 5 am in order to make it to the reservation time at 830. After driving 2 hours we showed up, excited to snorkel and happy to be out of the car. The girl who was at the kiosk was on the phone when we walked up. She told us that she was speaking with the "boat captain" and he had to cancel our reservation because he had to change the oil. Yes, you read that correctly, he decided that early in the morning on a Sunday, that he needed to change the oil. So not only did they already have our money through a third party reservation, but now we had to get our refund. Mind you it's after 830, all boats for morning trips leave by 9 and we have to call to get our refund. Needless to say, this guy ruined our morning. The attendant was basically his scape goat and it was a pretty lame excuse. They have a nice website and pretty good prices but obviously they can't hold up on their end of the deal which is ridiculous. Also they point you in the direction of other snorkel sites but like I said before, everything leaves by 9 and a lot of places require reservation. I highly recommend you don't go here. read more
