Just stayed in this historic Inn. Lovely. The rooms are not inherently heated, but have stand up heater that work great. We happen to like a cool room at night so didn't even use it. Complimentary breakfast in the morning between 8 and 9. You can tell the hosts take pride in maintaining habits of keeping things neat and orderly. They will come in and refresh towels and shampoo (it's conditioning shampoo so no real conditioner) and lotions and make the bed. There is a coffee maker in the room, but no coffee. So if you want more coffee than what's offered downstairs at breakfast, just buy some. They have cookies in the parlor 24x7. This Inn is old, but well maintained. Water pressure in the shower is great. I think if there's one wish, for selfish reasons, I wish they had extended breakfast hour options or offered to just bring to the room and leave outside the door. Also, if you plan on checking in later than 9;30PM, call the Inn and let them know. This isn't like a hotel where there's someone at the front desk 24 hours a day. I believe the inn keeper and spouse live on premises. And side note, if there are many other guests, you will be able to hear people talking in the halls. There is parking across the street that's free after 5PM on weekdays and free on the weekends. You can also pay the meter from your smart phone in room if you're not out of bed by 8AM on a weekday. Very handy. If you are expecting 5 star..don't stay here. If you're looking for a historic location that shows its age in a good way, this is the place. There is a refrigerator in the room as well as a microwave. The Redstone Inn is within walking distance of local shops and was very impressed overall with what the town is up to in terms of LEED restorations around downtown. If I'm every in Dubuque again and not staying with family, I would absolutely stay again. I will say it seemed there were many other rooms available bigger than the one we were given..wondering why not give us a larger room to enhance the stay....though I did enjoy being in the back corner where it was mostly quiet. read more
