    How is this possible

Red stone inn is listed as a haunted hotel but it's a bed and breakfast in a converted 130 year old mansion. The appeal of staying in a 130 old mansion was too much not to do it. I'm not going to nit pick some of the flaws like fellow Yelpers because it's not a recent remodel and it's charming as f#uck with the beautiful wood front desk, lovely parlor with fire place and quant dining room. I opted for the jacuzzi suite because it seemed cool in an old mansion when you think that when it was built jacuzzis were not even around. My suite was comfy and furnished in an antique old school look which was cool. No signs of bed bugs any where after I inspected the room. It's located down town and surrounded with a handful of restaurants and bars in the oldest city in Ia. The room has some complementary items like bottle water, bag of chips, bag of trail mix and mini candy bars. The jacuzzi was big enough for three average people and worked perfectly which was nice. My room was quiet because it was Mother's Day so the place was mostly empty. The area has a casino, museums, aquarium shopping so you have attractions but by no means is a weeks worth of stuff to do. I wanted the experience of staying in a 130 mansion and I loved it. I can't speak on the breakfast because I wanted try the local flavor but I did take pictures of the cold buffet items so none of the hot food, sorry.

Stayed here with my husband for a short weekend vacation. Redstone Inn is quaint but a little dates. Robert, inn keeper, is a gracious host. Hot breakfast sandwich comes with breakfast and buffet of fresh fruits, Asst pastries and cereals. Would recommend staying here again.

You wiil be sorry . Filthy! Be ready for 3 flights of narrow stairs no railing that leads to a musty, dusty room. Do not prepay this room...leave your money and run...if this is the deplorable condition of the room for goodness sake forgo anything that comes from their kitchen . Went right back out the door....the posted pictures have to be 15 years old,..lost my money but what a laugh

Ah, the final stop on our tour of Dubuque, and what a treat it was. We called about 10-15 hotels that night, and all of them were booked. Holiday Inn, local establishments, best western, you name it. Thank goodness for this, because when I finally got through to the Redstone Inn & Suites we really ended up lucking out. I wanted something that was between $80-150 and that was hopefully close to the downtown. The guy on the phone had a thick accent but he was very nice and he I think brought down their normal price a bit and offered a room to us at $125 + tax. This included free parking in their lot right across the street, free hot breakfast, and he also asked me if I wanted a "feminine or masculine room". This got a chuckle out of me (and a slight worry hah), but we soon found out why he asked. When we got to the hotel it actually looked pretty adorable (probably the only time as a guy I'm gonna use that word). It's a nice three story Victorian place that looks like it's been there probably since the 17 or 1800's. The guy at the front desk works there with his family (they might be the owners) and he was helpful in getting us situated. He gave us two keys, one for the room and one for the front door (they lock up early), and led us to our room. After entering the place (and the room), you can tell right away that it has a bread and breakfast feel to it. This wasn't your average hotel, it had a strong personal feel to it. The room was great! It was incredibly spacious, with a big four-post queen bed with a cool old style frame. The decor was what was "feminine" about it, but really that just meant a lot of pink and a lot of knick knacks. Everything was setup like you were in some kind of historical home, and it really made it feel comfortable. We also had a small side room with tables and chairs, very much in the theme of a tea party (not to be confused with republicans). They had a panoramic photographic book of Dubuke, which I actually paged through and found to be pretty sweet. The best part - huge two person Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. My girlfriend and I took a relaxing bath in this in the evening and it was a nice surprise (especially given the cost of the room). The bathroom also had a normal shower and a separate door for the toilet area. In the morning I awoke to the smell of fresh eggs and meat wafting through the vents from three floors down. It smelled so good I did everything I could to contain myself until my girlfriend was awake :D. Finally, we went downstairs and walked into a pleasant room where a continental breakfast had been setup. It was pretty typical, cereals, yogurt, pastries, juice, etc. I was kind of hungry so at first I was disappointed that there wasn't any hot food, but as soon as we sat down with our snacks the lobby man brought out fresh plates with a gorgeous looking quiche and hot sausages (served directly to us). The quiche was delicious, as was everything else, and we left feeling more than satisfied. My only drawback here would be that the place was old, so some of it could probably be touched up a little. But if you can ignore that, it really was a nice cosy bed and breakfast with a great location (a few blocks from everything downtown). Definitely keep it on your shortlist if you're looking for a relaxing weekend for 2 in Dubuque. And thus, that concludes our wonderful trip to Dubuque! Great city, I want to go back already :) P.S. (They have free wi-fi and flat screen TVs if that's your thing)

My wife and I were traveling back to Dubuque after some 26 years. We called the Redstone more or less at the last minute and were very happy to discover that they had rooms available. We were very pleased by the charm of the furnishings -- in the common areas as well as our room. The owner was friendly and attentive. The breakfast was wonderful, a combination of a freshly-made hot entree, and an ample Continental-style buffet. The coffee was French Roast-fresh and flavorful and re-fills were quick and plentiful, always a necessarily part of a great breakfast. We enjoyed our stay so much at the Redstone so much that we talked ourselves into staying an extra night and exploring the local shops a little more. If and when we return to Dubuque (hopefully before another 26 years), we hope to make the Redstone a part of plans.

My wife books this on line and we arrive after a long drive. My wife goes in to check in while I study the parking situation, because there is no on site parking. I walk in the door and this filthy disheveled man walks out from the back of the building. He instantly stops and with no a harsh voice says no dogs. My dog had its Vest on and was under command. He accused me of having a fake service dog. I offered more information than About my condition and utilization of my service dog. He told me to go sit down and rambled about his PTSD from being shot. And, I was empathetic with his condition. He said the booking site did not tell him I had a service dog. And that he had full time renters that maybe allergic to my animal. He Threatened me with suffering the consequences after he checked me out. He want me to produce medical records on the spot. I informed him about Disability act and gave him a card that explains the ADA service animals. I also, asked him if he would like me to call the police to explain because I was not certain if we were having a cultural conversation misunderstanding. He was very offensive about calling the police. I at this time startled videoing him, because he became very irritated and irrational. I asked him on video if he was or was not going to allow me to stay at his hotel with my service dog. He with irritation said he would but I would pay for the consequences. He then told me to no longer record him because that was his right. I stopped recording at his request. He first had offered my wife a room upgrade and after seeing my animal. He said he would not. He selected a very small room with a twin bed to us. This man is beyond scary. I did not sleep a wink. At one point I went to the public area down stairs and at every corner there were cameras watching and alarms going off. It was very unsettling, when I got down stairs I grabbed a newspaper and seated myself at a window seat to read. He come out of the dark and startled me and said hey! And then said ugh, and turned and left. He is a very large menacing man. So, needlessly say we will never set foot in that place again. In my opinion it is a time bomb waiting to go off.

It is such a beautiful Hotel, the service is phenomenal and just wow!

I had to finally call and the lady appeared. I was quickly checked in which I did appreciate. Not with the same attention I have been in the past but checked in nonetheless. I checked in on the mobile app requesting a late check out of 4pm. I should have realized someone wouldn't go to bat to help but realized my request didn't go through until the morning. I asked as soon as I went down an was told there was nothing she could do since it was too late. I don't doubt she couldn't do anything as she wasn't empowered to do it. Said someone from "sales" would be in and they could help. When I returned, it was the same woman and had to ask if she was able to get someone to help and she said she could do anything. Before that I had asked her to try for a late checkout at 1 which she said was likely the most she could do. That was granted and as disappointed in the failure of the app I was happy to have that since I had no place to go for a few hours. Unfortunately, I don't believe she tried to go above and beyond that. Prior to that, I had come down the evening before to wait for Uber Eats to no one behind the desk again. When she did come out, I asked for a a bag for the ice machine since we don't have a bucket. Was told I'd get a bucket she assured was clean. She came back and offered bowls. Bowls that you'd use for soup or ice cream. Because they don't have any ice buckets. Who is taking their ice buckets? Back to the morning of requesting a late check out, there was no one behind the counter again. Had to wait and the same person from the night before finally showed up. Understaffed? Not empowered? Doesn't care? Idk... disappointed in this stay and see lots of room for improvement.

I checked in on December 23, 2025, for a two-night stay while visiting Dubuque for the holidays. At check-in, I advised the front desk that I am a Hilton Gold member and asked about the availability of a room upgrade and the $15 per guest breakfast credit. I was informed that neither was available, which I accepted without issue. The following morning, we chose to purchase the full breakfast to support the hotel. Unfortunately, the buffet food appeared to have been sitting out for an extended period and was both unappealing and inedible, despite our arriving at approximately 8:00 a.m. We ultimately chose not to eat and returned to our room, though we still left a generous tip for our server. As part of my Gold status benefits, I received a text message requesting feedback on my stay. I responded honestly, noting my disappointment regarding the lack of an upgrade and having paid $35 for a breakfast I could not eat. I rated my experience a 3. Shortly thereafter, I received a voicemail from the general manager asking that I call him. During the call, his demeanor was confrontational, aggressive, and unprofessional. Rather than addressing my concerns about the stay, he focused almost exclusively on my rating and repeatedly demanded personal information about a family member who had enrolled me in Hilton's Friends and Family program. His tone was accusatory, and he spoke over me while insisting that I "should know how the program works," The conversation included what I perceived as intimidation and implied threats related to my status and future stays, leaving me feeling pressured and uncomfortable. After subsequently speaking with Hilton Corporate, I was informed that my Gold status benefits should have been honored regardless of the Friends and Family program. Based on the general manager's conduct during the call, I no longer felt safe or welcome at the property. As a result, I immediately checked out of the hotel, forfeiting my second night despite still being charged for the full reservation. I later learned that the general manager had contacted the Hilton Friends and Family program and had my benefits revoked. When I contacted Hilton to inquire why future reservations had been canceled, I was told that I had been labeled "rude and disruptive." This characterization is inaccurate and unjustified. I spent less than 18 hours at the hotel, used digital check-in and a mobile key, and had no confrontational interactions with staff beyond routine, respectful inquiries about my benefits.

This place is a disgusting shithole…read more I rolled into Dubuque late at night. The first room I was given smelled horrendously of cigarette smoke, so badly that my eyes started watering within seconds of entering the room. I went back down to the front desk and requested a new room. The guy started doing some things on the computer, then another employee walked in and they started speaking in Russian or some other Cyrillic language for several seconds. Kind of weird, because the second guy had greeted me when I first arrived, and he seemed perfectly fluent in English. It just seemed weird that two people who both seemed fluent in English would switch, discuss something, and then the first guy completed the discussion with me in English. The second guy, the one who had originally greeted, had red eyes and looked high AF. Just a really bizarre experience. I got to my second room and immediately noted that it sounded like a window was open. I checked, and it was. There was a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room, and I am fairly certain that this window was left open to dissipate the smell. I turned on the lights and noticed that the placard on the phone was yellow with nicotine stain. Wtf? This is a fairly modern looking hotel. Certainly renovated not very long ago. What modern hotel has nicotine stains? Then I needed to use the toilet, and discovered that the bathroom stank horribly of cigarette smoke. Like someone had been smoking in there immediately before I entered the room. And it still stank just as strongly in the morning when I woke up. I think someone had been smoking in the bathroom with the exhaust fan on, thinking that it would magically make the stink not go everywhere else. I went downstairs for breakfast and there were biscuits on the hot food display. Just biscuits. No eggs, no bacon or sausage or anything else for hot food. I grabbed a biscuit and some jelly. I went to get a glass of orange juice, and the machine just discharged water. This was at 7:00, and breakfast hours start at 6:30. It's not like I got down to the breakfast area right at the beginning of breakfast and they hadn't had time yet to bring the rest of the food out or restock the juice machine with concentrate mix. If you're traveling into Dubuque, avoid this place. It smells bad, the breakfast is literally just biscuits, and you can't even get a glass of orange juice to wash down your biscuit.
