The food was great and the hostesses and waiters were extremely kind. The 2 appetizers that we got, the cheesy french fries and onion bread, were really good. The "What's the Jam" burgers was very good and the best food I have had on the East Coast thus far. I'm happy with the service and food, and would definitely return. read more

I went to Red's Place for brunch and got the blackberry French toast and home fries. The home fries were pretty good but I'm a snob when it comes to my fried potatoes (though I'll basically eat any fried potato you put in front of me) and these were definitely not the best. They had good flavor but they were not crispy enough on the outside. The French toast was simply OK. The blackberry sauce was great and I wish it had more but the cream that was on top was too sweet and the French toast was not the correct texture. If I'm going to waste my calories on a sweet breakfast, it better be damn good. This was not. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't up there with some of the other brunches I've had in Ithaca. read more

Great menu and great drinks. Outdoor seating is nice. Highly recommend the smoked brisket BBQ flatbread. Nice stop for dinner/quick lunch.

A friend told me to stop by Red's Place in Ithaca, and I am so glad I did! I greatly enjoyed the Proper Pig flatbread (meat candy on a crust), the French Onion Soup Bowls (the perfect ratio of soup to bread, in slider size) and the Farm Salad (lived up to its name, plus a jolt of smoked Gouda), but the Simcoe Bomb from Sloop's Brewing brought TEARS to my EYES. The food was quite good and the service was excellent, but I would drive up to 87 miles to wrap my hands around another pint of Simcoe Bomb. Overall, the ambience was cheerful and relaxing, the service was fast and friendly, and the food and drink were top notch! Would recommend as a place to meet with friends or a date. GET THE SIMCOE BOMB. read more

Last night -3/6/20 .. We didn't even get to sit. The hostess was SO RUDE . I couldn't even believe it was really happening. We had driven 4 hours to get to Ithaca. We were starving and went to reds- 25 minute wait- not bad! We got drinks at the bar and waited patiently. After 30 minutes had passed, we noticed 4 open tables. One- shortly after - the servers came out and started rolling silverware on. We have over 10 years experience in restaurant business so we KNOW this is unacceptable. When I KINDLY asked the hostess about the status of our table, she quickly and rudely dismissed us proclaiming that she needed to clean all the tables down and needed more time- about 10 minutes more. However, they were already clean and set . three of them . When She notices this, she ROLLS HER EYES and says she will look next on the list- we were next- there was no one else in there. But she kept walking around the restaurant instead of seating us. When I human to human asked her "don't you think it's strange that your staff will take a table to roll silverware instead of seating a willing to pay customer ?" And again rudely says "this is what management does. What do you want ? Me to talk to them?" I said "yes because I have a feeling if they knew customers were waiting then they would want us to eat and give money" so she goes over to the other workers and they look at me and LAUGH. I can't possibly make this up. Look at my other reviews - I never review for a bad way. But realizing there IS no management, we decided to leave because if we can't even get seated with 4 empty tables, then I can't imagine how awful the service would have been. Again- This young hostess was SO RUDE. She didn't care if Reds made money or not. She didn't really care much about anything ..... read more

Food is mediocre but the beer selection is good! There aren't many beers to choose from but they are all high quality. The flatbreads are typically a good thing to order and the s'mores dessert is awesome with a side of ice cream. Would suggest if you're craving American food and beer in a quick manner - the service is friendly and fast! read more

Great bar with awesome vibes. Hopefully you get Steve as a bartender. Never a dull moment with him

Good food - simple fast and hot. Not too much creativity but that's not why you get bar food. Waitress was a bit slow and had to ask for our check while we were being baked by the sun. Could use some umbrellas or a much larger awning for outside. Would also help in hot and light rain situations. Inside is pretty dark and the floors are sticky. This wasn't an especially busy weekend so adjust accordingly. read more

Excellent restaurant with shady outdoor seating and dog friendly! They'll even bring your dog a bowl of water if you ask. I loved the creative menu names and food was excellent - hit the spot! Our waiter, Clarence, was wonderful; one of the best waiters I've had. Very attentive and friendly - also gave us recommendations for things to do in the area and directions to a store. Highly recommend! read more

Red's Place was everything I wasn't expecting, but in the best way!! As a vegetarian, I braced myself for what I assumed to be another pub with little options for me besides salads and pizza. I was pleasantly surprised to find not only a wide variety of both those things, but also several entrees showcasing mushrooms. Red's Place even went as far to include a vegan option, a delicious sounding curry that i am looking forward to trying in my next visit. Red's Place's excellent food and wonderful atmosphere makes it worthy of being your next dinning excursion. read more

Small portions, uninteresting flavors, over priced. The fries come in a mini fry basket that only serves to remind you how few fries actually made it into your plate. read more

I actually sent the mahi mahi tacos back they were so bad. I paid for the absurdly expensive soup for the amount that was given and left. Overpriced. Not good. I DO NOT recommend. read more

Service with a smile! We had a great waitress tonight. Didn't mean to, but wound up ordering several things from the 'plates to share' menu. You MUST try the Hog Heaven! Fried pork belly and fried brussel sprouts...yeah, I know...brussel sprouts...but they were GOOD! And did I mention PORK BELLY!?! read more

If I could rate 0 stars, I would. Rude and disrespectful, this establishment needs a makeover of their staff (maybe their food too). I can't even report on the food, because we couldn't stand being in there another minute with the unprofessionalism of the staff (specifically the hostess). We waited for a table (no one else on the wait list), with many empty tables. We sat at the bar for half an hour and after then, politely asked the hostess about the status of our table. She rolled her eyes, insisted they needed the tables for the staff to roll silverware, went up to her coworkers, and they looked at us and laughed... I'll stop there. read more

The bartender was amazing and the food was great! Went there two days in a row. The tall lady walking us to the table was really BLAND. Looked like she was the owner. No smile at all and was kind of forced to be there. Everything else was great. If she is the owner, she should stay at the back of the house or home. Sorry!! The food and the ambience was GREAT!! read more

Very good food and good service. We had the wings for appetizers which was extremely good. I had the French onion burger and it was cooked to perfection. read more

Food (burgers) and service are just mediocre, nothing really impressive. I've come here for a few times with my colleagues, but would never come here myself or recommend to other people. read more

Delicious burger with great juicy flavor. Why the 3 stars, price and lack of variety. Menu was limited and the beer selection was IPA heaven and expensive for 12 oz pours draft. read more

We were in town for a short visit and stumbled upon this place while we were walking around Ithaca Commons. There were pricier restaurants around that we considered, but ultimately decided to try Red's. What a pleasant surprise! I had the Crabby Pattie with waffle sweet potato fries and hubby had the Shamrockin' Madness Special burger. Both burgers were DELICIOUS and the sweet potato fries were perfection. Everyone should have them. We also ordered the Green Tea Crème Bruleé (a St. Paddy's special, I believe), which we devoured. The flavor was mild, unusual, and satisfying. Our waiter was friendly, gave us just the right recommendations and time to consider. I highly recommend Red's. It's been our best food choice yet in Ithaca! read more

Very disappointing to say the least. Unfriendly staff, extremely slow service and food. We spent over an hour there and two of our five person group only ordered appetizers! There was a small child with us who became extremely inpatient due to the long wait and instead of having common sense to bring the child's food first, even after asking to have the child's food brought first, it still came with the rest of the guests food. The cost of course is around $15 per person so honestly not that great but look where you are....Ithaca. The food was just okay for what you spend. We could have eaten anywhere for slow service, and unfriendly staff. We actually told a family of four outside trying to decide where to go to eat, not to go there because it took way to long. read more

Unbelievable bad service, they wouldn't accept our party of 7 even though there were enough tables available.

Great place and great food. When the restaurants on either side were seating at a 20 minute wait, we decided to try Red's. We couldn't figure out why they didn't have a wait. The waiter was friendly and attentive and the food was great! Our children loved the choices on the kids menu, and we loved the different craft cocktails, beer list, and delicious fried chicken macaroni and cheese, salad, and chicken sandwich. We will definitely plan to go back! read more

Wait time was long (but worth it). 1 server during Friday lunch hour is a little crazy but Kathy was excellent! Never lost her composure. The burger was one of the best I've had in town! Steak fries come in a neat little wire mesh basket and were deelish! Soda was refilled when half empty (full if you'd like). I'll visit again, maybe during slower times. read more

Went here yesterday, June 24th around 3pm. Probably one of the most rude experiences I've ever had at a restaurant in my life. The food was fine, it was partly wrong but oh well. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were being judged by the two servers. They seated us directly next to a couple, I'm talking within a foot of them. When we moved over to give them some space since the restaurant was empty, the servers gave me a dirty look. The two young ladies who I heard said they were back from college for the summer felt the need to chit chat about their lives quite loudly the whole time we were there. Not only did they stare at us the whole time, but not even say "have a good day" on our way out since they were so busy talking about their vacations they were taking this summer. The man seated next to us, his food was completely incorrect and the waitress did not seem like it was at all a problem to her. Yet she was very nice to us. I'm not sure if they did not even know how what they were doing was very rude to the customers. There was two waitresses and they were running around the whole time, while the servers did not lift a finger, not even to roll silverware. Most definitely will not be returning. read more

The only reason I'm bothering to rate and review this restaurant is because we had good service. We came here because two other restaurants within walking distance had a 1 hour wait, but this had a 25 minute wait (in reality, even less), despite appearing just as packed as the other restaurants. In terms of fare and pricing, this is a very average American restaurant. But the hostess was polite and accommodating despite being very busy, and our waiter was attentive, chill, and friendly also despite the busyness. The other plus was that we were seated outside on a beautiful night, but it looked like at least half of the neighboring restaurants have outdoor seating too. If we come again to Ithaca we would probably make the effort to drive a little farther to try other places that look more interesting for the same price, but due to the location of our hotel it was convenient this time to come to Red's. read more

Very small overpriced portions--but that's OK because the food is awful. The small small burger had an off-taste with very stingy and anemic toppings. How can you serve one paper-thin slice of pale tomato during the height of local tomato season? The fries were frozen, bland, and mushy. Indigestion has already set in. Will NOT return. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Red's tonight for the first time because the wait at Viva was going to be over an hour. I'm SO happy that we did. First, the wait was just long enough for the hostess to clean a table. BONUS! Even while we were waiting the very short time it took to be seated, and server still stopped to tell us that we'd be taken care of shortly. With a smile on her face. Awesome customer service. Love the atmosphere. Very clean, sleek lines. My boyfriend and I had a laugh over the "hipster" decor. Water glasses are mason jars, and the lights around the bar are mason jars. Chic without being obnoxious. The menu was awesome. Huge variety offered from fish, to burgers, to flat bread pizzas, and everything with a swanky flair. We ordered drinks, a beer for me and a dry martini for my boyfriend. This the probably the only reason they got a 4-star from me and not a 5. It took a LONG time to get the drinks. Pushing the 10 minute window. Not horrible, but it was kind of a bummer. Our server did apologize, so I won't hold it against them. We ordered the mahi mahi tacos for an appetizer. Freaking adorbs. It came in a bento box with itty bitty tortillas, guac, salsa, coleslaw, and the mahi mahi in tiny dishes to build ourselves. The fish wasn't seasoned a ton, but it was Ok because the add-ons were amazingly flavorful. Our entrées came out shortly after we finished the appetizer. Timed excellently. My boyfriend had the Aurora Street burger, and I had the marinated portobello burger. He was initially surprised by how small the burger was, but quickly forgot about it, as he was absolutely thrilled by the perfect cook on the burger (medium rare), as well as the quality and freshness of the meat. My marinated portobello burger was mouth wateringly delish. It had amazing flavor, and was so thick and juicy. Food porn for days. I cannot wait to go back. When we were paying our bill (which was totally reasonable for the quality of food), I saw another server walk by our table with some kind of heavenly dessert. I told my boyfriend that the next time we come, we'll skip the appetizer so we'll have room for dessert. Would recommend FOR SURE. Will dine again without a doubt. read more

Really good service and surprisingly interesting food. Not your standard pub food. Great place for a bite

Disappointed. Hopefully this is a work in progress. Food was bland and portions small. Had reds take on steak and it was over cooked and under seasoned Roll was soggy and portion small. . The hand cut fries were frozen. Girlfriend had the blacked fish and slrachia slaw. Fish was under seasoned. Slaw was just hot. Son had crab cake which he liked. Daughter had mushroom lovers sandwich again it was just ok. Desert was fired nachos which they liked. Add one beer and one wine and the bill was $75 without the tip. Help seemed uninterested in their jobs. The restaurant this replaced was always empty and if they keep this up they will repeat their predecessors success. Ithaca has many better restaurants then this poor attempt. read more

I'm so sick of trying to eat here. Every time we come they are out of half of the items we try to order. They never cook the burger the way I order it. It's been problem after problem and we keep coming back because the menu is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. Today was the last straw though. Not gonna bother anymore. Bye for good red's. read more

Crystal is a great server, she's always nice and attentive to her tables and I have always had the best customer service with the staff.

Reds Place is OK. The ambiance was the best part of the evening. I found the food to be somewhat lackluster. The Cuban was very dry. So much so that I had a hard time finishing each bite. Tater tots however, took me back to elementary school but tasted better. Overall, I plan to go back but probably only for drinks and snacks at the bar. read more

Awful experience . 45 minute wait for two burgers and a fish taco Taco was awful one burger did not arrive Waste of an afternoon Now one hour after sitting down burger finally here and it is decent not great and not worth the wait read more

Food was decent but massively overpriced for quality and portion size. The hostess was incredibly rude and unwelcoming upfront, we had to open the door for HER and were the first to ask HER "how are you?" -- isn't that their only job..? Our waitress was decently friendly but ignored us for huge periods of time and the food took forever (20+ minutes on fried shrimp starter) to come out. $14 fried shrimp were over-breaded, clearly frozen, and undersauced (we asked for more sauce to dip in and were charged for it). I felt like we were treated poorly as they assume young adults won't tip well or be respectful, an absurd notion in a town where most people are intimately in touch with the food service industry. So disappointing, won't be back. read more

try the Cuban with a side of tater tots. The server Ian recommended it and I can't thank him enough! I was so impressed. I heard they've gotten bad food reviews in the past so I'm assuming they've stepped up their game...whatever it is, I don't care. the Cuban with tater tots! get it. read more

Great gluten free options, I went with the blackened mahi mahi club on a gf roll with yummy tater tots. The roll wasn't especially good, but nice texture and it came grilled. The only complaint was not very good guac, but I am a guac snob. There were gf pizzas available which is nice to see. Husband got the cuban with tater tots. The rum soaked ham and mustard were a great combo. We shared the farm salad to start, a huge portion for the price! Fresh greens and veggies, big chunks of cheese, and tons of bacon and sunflower seeds. Loved the freshness, color, and texture. Would definitely go again. We had a table near the door which was chilly, so dress appropriately. read more

Their outdoor seating was nice but their service for brunch took a very long time. Watched two other tables, who sat after my group, get their lunch. Ordered the frittata which was incredibly dissapointing. It was one of the only brunch items that was $12 (compared to $10 to all the others). It claimed to have roasted corn, red peppers, black beans, bacon, and avocado but there was only little scraps, the egg was completely tasteless and dry, and maybe 3 black beans, and no bacon. Not my favorite brunch. However, other people ordered their other items which they loved. So definitely don't get the frittata read more

We were here Saturday 7/19/14. The weather was nice so we were looking for a place with outside seating. This place is in the middle of a cluster of places with outdoor seating....and it was emply. We reluctantly tried it and we were so surprised. The food was great! I got a crabcake burger. The aioli and coleslaw topping were great. I chose to get fries on the side and they were great as well. My friend also enjoyed her meal. I walked inside to use the restroom and the atmosphere inside seemed really nice. As a frequent traveler to Ithaca, I will certainly be back! read more
