After a horrible experience the night before at a nearby Italian restaurant ( La Minestra ) my wife suggested Red Rossa for dinner. I had my doubts about it but figured it couldn't be any worse than the night before. Upon entering we were immediately impressed with the beautiful Italian decor. We were greeted & placed our order of two 3 topping Pizzas. Both Pizzas were absolutely outstanding & our server, Dustin, did a terrific job of taking care of us not to mention he was extremely personable & quite funny. Great decor, great food, great service & more than reasonable prices ( 2 entrees, 4 drinks & a side salad for $ 61.28 ) make Red Rossa a 5 star experience. This is probably one of the most scenic and beautiful restaurants I've seen it a long time I have to tell you the tomato bisque soup it really hard to get past it taste so good that I could eat it forever but I'm gonna have to come back and try some other items I had the chop salad along side it was delicious and in terms of price he really can't beat this for what you get but give yourself some time this is the kinda restaurant you'll want to give yourself at least an hour to an hour and a half to enjoy it as each other is prepared carefully, our server Kyla was incredibly fun!! I've recently moved to the area from a much larger city in the southwest. I've been trying out the different restaurants in the area and heard of this place through coworkers. So craving Italian cuisine one night I gave it a go. And I was not disappointed. I placed an online order with the time I wished to pick it up. When arrived it was just coming out of the kitchen. Couldn't have timed it any better. Whilst waiting I was able to check out the decor and dining area. It's a most pleasant setting and the guests I observed seemed to be at ease and really enjoying themselves. I'll be sure to come back and eat in at the earliest opportunity. I have been an executive chef for many years and this place was clean and staff super friendly. The manager did go up and above for my order. Honestly I really wanted to give this a higher review, but inconsistency of service, and food really set the stage for a low rating. I had the seafood pasta, and it was delicious. The hot bread and oil with seasoning was amazing to boot. However the two people I went with had less than great experience. One pasta dish was so sweet you could feel your glucose levels rising as you ate. The other dish tasted like it was cooked in a burnt pan. Every bite was like a mouthful of burnt toast. Most like Macaroni Grill in ambience. Decent menu. My family of four visited on vacation. As with most restaurants in this part of the state, it could stand to include more non-meat items. That aside, we had a lovely meal: spicy black bean burger, cheese ravioli with shrimp, buffalo burger, and Caesar salad with salmon. Everything was cooked correctly and tasted amazing! Chose Red because I could walk there from my hotel. I've been to Pierre many times, seen this place but never stopped in. Great looking place and was able to belly up right away. Service was slow but that's because the poor bartender was slammed and had no help. So I was ok with the delay. Had traveled to Pierre for a very special occasion - a naturalization ceremony - and was looking for a place to celebrate. The menu at RedRossa seemed to have something for everyone in our party, so we showed up relatively early (6:00 pm) on a Friday night to ensure a table. Not yet busy when we arrived so no problem being seated right away. Nice place. Waited 10 minutes, and no one had approached us - not even to drop off water. I flagged a young woman down and asked for a server. Another several minutes come by and the waitress approaches us and asks if we're ready to order. I said we'd like to have a drink first, and we ordered an appetizer. After about 7 minutes the bartender comes over to clarify the drink order. Another 5 minutes and the waitress comes back to drop off the drinks. Still no water. 10 minutes later she drops off the appetizer and the complimentary bread at the same time - fine. We had to ask for the water glasses to be filled (mind you, everyone else received water when they sat down.) We enjoy our cocktails and appetizer and signal for her that we are ready to order. She takes the entree orders and leaves without clearing the appetizer dishes, sauces, plates, etc. We pile the dirty dishes in the center of the table, so they won't be missed. 15 min later the entrees come out and she places them on the table on starts to leave. We ask her is she can please remove the dirty dishes so we have some room. She doesn't ask about refilling cocktails or waters, so we have to take that charge as well. Now normally someone would come back in 5 minutes to see how everything is. Nope. Not here. We finish our dinners and wait. And wait. (The food was delicious, btw - thank you, kitchen staff.) Don't see our waitress anywhere. I'm so annoyed I get up and make my way to the waitress stand and find the manager with three wait staff at a register. I tell them that we are ready for the check and have not seen our waitress. 5 minutes later ( not right away) the manager approaches the table and apologizes, explaining the waitress had to leave for an emergency and that she dropped the ball - which I appreciated. She returns with the check and had taken 20% off the bill. Not at all the special occasion we had envisioned. Would never go back. I recommend Dusty's where we had a lovely meal and excellent service the night before. read more

My Appreciation of this restaurant has ebbed and flowed over the years. The happy hour and late night specials are awesome. The shrimp is probably my favorite. The wine is amazing, I've had a couple of really great gin and tonics there lately. It was awesome to see a familiar face with Aaron. He has been a server at other restaurants in town and always does an amazing job. Very happy to see him there. I tried for the first time this eggplant polenta thing for dinner. I can't pronounce it. At all. But it was beyond amazing. That was on a Sunday night. A couple Fridays ago I had a particularly early and rough flight back to town and the literal only thing that I felt like eating was the woodfired margherita pizza. Actually, I was on the fence between the mushroom pizza, chicken Alfredo, and marg, but I picked margherita. I wrote about this during another recent review, but as a frequent business traveler, it is so refreshing to be able to go to a restaurant and the food is consistent. It is the exact same way time after time. When you're staying in different cities and states and hotels week after week, it's hard to find that consistency. Especially after the long out-of-state trip, it was precisely what I needed. I also ordered the spinach artichoke dip while I waited, and a couple of those previously mentioned gin and tonics. The bartender was happy to make it with half tonic, half seltzer, to cut down on the calories of it, despite the fact that I had just ordered said spinach artichoke dip. Haha. Plus it was a bit early in the day to be drinking, but little did anyone know I had been up since about four and earned it with said turbulent flight. Lol There was no judgement expressed, at least not to my face. :) I didn't even touch my pizza as I was beyond full after the creamy, flavorful hot dip and bread, but I had it for dinner and late night snack later on in the day. The New Orleans inspired Mardi Gras menu looked pretty neat and I will probably make a point to go check that out soon. I don't know what type of balsamic the restaurant uses, but it's by far the best I've ever had. And I use a ton of it each trip. I do have to say that for a while a couple years ago or so, the restaurant was inconsistent and had some staffing issues, maybe but things have definitely turned around. I will say, however, that there was one night my boyfriend and I came in to eat the late night menu and it was about 8:45 PM, and there was not a hostess in sight for about ten mins. This is your less than average steam-table line cook style restaurant, or so the results of the outcome of the food show it profoundly. I've been here 4 times within a short amount of time in between one another, the outcome of the food has been the same; blah in taste, not much past luke-warm in temperature, and when brought to the attention of staff, you can assuredly tell the kitchen staff did nothing more than, warm the same plate up in a microwave, as the food was no improvement in flavor, and was certainly rubbery, or harder in texture. Although the wait-staff was apologetic, the supervising staff was certainly unwilling to make it right, to make any one visit at least remotely a pleasant one. Red Rossa is definitely a restaurant in Pierre to avoid, as there are more appealing options available, at least 5 restaurants that surpasses Red Rossa by astronomical leaps and bounds. Save your money, and make another selection for yourself, family, or friends. I must add, the hours of service were not during peak hours, in fact, they were in between 2:30 pm- 4pm, simply stating for the record. Lastly, I fully understand people have bad days, but to have experience this consistently throughout each visit, it'll be an enormous "no thank you". read more

If alone, not a great option. As I write my review while sitting at the bar, I'm frustrated. The bar tender has yet to crack a smile towards a customer. I ate close enough to the speed station to overhear the other waitstaff. I overheard them complain about their job and mock a customer encounter I saw walking in the door. A patron politely walked up to a waitress and asked for mayo. I overheard the waitress complain, mock the customer, and say she "quit." If your waitstaff feels this way about customers, I'd say it's for the best. Imagine how long the customer must have waited to feel the need to walk away from her food and table to ask for a condiment. Perhaps of this waitress wasn't standing by the bar complaining, she'd not receive such requests. The bartender abandoned the bar to change a Stella keg, which, for the record, was sold out. I watched as several patrons at the bar, including myself, waited for service. The bartender did not ask how my food was until it was far gone and my plate was taken, by another waitress. It seems groups were having a good time. The nachos I ordered were good; the Long Island's pour-counts were spot on. With a boost of employee morale, this could be a great restaurant. read more

I'm really impressed with the food here, I went in expecting a Johnny Carinos or Olive Garden type food but what we got was so much better!! I had the Spicy Chicken and Shrimp Romano and it was so good!! I also had the Black and Blue Steak Tips, Bloody Mary and the Tiramisu all was phenomenal!! We went here last night for the second time, and the food minus one of the person's meals was wonderful! The waitress, however, started off great at the beginning but then never checked on us for about 20 minutes. I like to drink water and was very thirsty so needed my glass filled up. There were pitchers right above the table, however, so I got tired of waiting and filled my own glass. There was a pitcher of tea so I filled my glass with that because the water pitcher was empty, and they charged me for the tea. That part is fine, but I wanted to tell the waitress if she checked on us more I would have just drank water like I wanted, but you just don't start off great checking on people then not check on them until towards the end. I think Red Rossa is a nice restaurant with a good and wide selection of food and drinks that definitely satisfy. The potato soup is the best by the way. They have a little bit of everything with a different spin on these classic dishes. The pastas are always impressive but a hair small I think, while their burgers will far exceed your expectations in size and taste which is served on special one night out of the week for particularly good deals. The pizzas are pretty good, but the full bar is probably the best part about the place. The environment is warm, large and inviting, and pretty well maintained for how large it all is. Its fairly dim for lighting inside though. There is also a very nice outside patio where you can also eat during the two months that arent blizzard weather in South Dakota. Overall I think its a good place, I would recommend it for good food and good drinks. read more
