Nice place to be to getaway from city traffic. There are trash bins along the concrete sidewalk and the sandy beach. So if you have to dispose trash from foods, then it is just a short walk. Nearby is the pier where you can buy foods. But those a $$$$$. Those are expensive for me but may not be expensive for you. There is a kind of of like an outdoor shower to rinse before swimming or after swimming. The parking structure is near. Just $2 per hour. You do need to prepay. There is a notification via mobile phone if your prepaid parking is about to expire. But time your visit. And... seagulls everywhere. If you prefer a less crowded beach side, then arrive as early as possible-around 8am. The place gets crowded as afternoon comes. read more

I usually prefer going to Huntington Beach for a day out on the sand but on this day the family and I decided to hit up Redondo Beach since we wanted to do more than just hang out on the sand. They have a wide variety of other things you can do here such as water sports - renting a paddle boat, kayak, paddle boarding, sailing, and even a semi-submarine! There's also the pier which has an arcade and some awesome quality seafood! Parking is also a breeze here and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. read more

I love biking the path to Redondo Beach and ending up at Redondo Pier and biking even past that. There's a really good vibe to this area and it's a place to take your visitors to without breaking the bank. Plus, you can easily find parking and dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean. If you are not up for crowds and still want to see the water, this is a terrific area to be in. read more

People tend to usually skip this part of town when visiting Los Angeles. It's definitely more secluded and less popular than other beaches but I like the vicinity of the airport nearby making this the perfect beach stop during a layover of right after landing. There's a nearby pier with pricey food options but the area has plenty more to offer if that's not your scene. The Pacific Ocean is darker and colder than the Atlantic Ocean that I'm accustomed to but it's a sight to see when in the area. Parking here is easier and cheaper than other populated beaches which is always a plus. It's a relaxing and scenic view with plenty of walking space to maximize your visit. If you're using public transportation, it's a very close walk off the line making it an even easier way to visit the beach without being stuck in traffic. read more

This was a fun beach to explore, particular the old boardwalk around the area with a lot of shops and seafood places: it's old, worn down, and retro. There is a lively atmosphere on the weekends with a lot of people out, fishing, jogging, volleyball, sunning, surfing, eating, touristing (but not too many tourists compared to the more northern beaches). I suggest coming down here and walking north and south to nearby beaches rather than going to the northern ones! read more

On my way back home from work I have to stop here to relax my mind. At night, I have a walk through here. I could say it is a very safe area. With the cons being that there are no restaurants anywhere near and there restrooms are all closed at 5pm. Either way peace and quiet is priceless! read more

My favorite beach in LA. Naturally not as warm as further down south in Mexico but very clean and fun. The problem with the whole thing is it seems to be everybodys favorite beach and so parking and crowds takes away a bit from the experience. This is a surf spot. Good waves and warm clear water. Lots of people in the ocean enjoying the sun. The water is warm enough you don't need a wet suit as you would in the San Francisco ocean. Its really great. Lots of crowds. Yes, that is to be expected - especially in a city like Los Angeles especially in a place that attracts so many tourists. Restaurants and parking equally crowded and difficult to get a spot. Go ahead. Take that big SUV that you bought for outdoor adventures and load up your surf boards and gear and head out. That is what it was meant for in the first place - not just for wrapping around the McDonalds drive thru line. read more

It looks like this is a review of the beach facilities and not the city in general. I lived on the Esplanade for a couple of years so I'll throw in my two cents. I will agree with the other reviewers in saying that if you want a nice beach only experience, do not set up camp close to the pier/Torrance Blvd. area, as it does get quite crowded. Yes, most beachgoers there are not locals (it is called "Barrio Beach" by the lifeguards for a reason) but it's public property so get over it and head down to the end of Esplanade/border of Torrance area and you will find it more enjoyable. This is known as RAT beach and is much more relaxing and less densely packed. I would usually walk a few hundred yards past the big parking lots and have plenty of room to myself. If you are not planning on getting onto the sand or in the water and just want to take in some nice views, park on Esplanade anywhere from in between Knob Hill to Avenue I and enjoy. There is a big construction project going on right now though, so you cannot park anywhere but when it's finally finished you should be good. The area between around Sapphire and the end of the strand near RAT beach is great for bicycling and jogging, and also playing volleyball, but I never go there for lounging on the sand or taking a swim. Something about that short distance from the strand to the water just turns me off. However, there is a rock jetty worth checking out around Sapphire. The other parts of Redondo's beaches are mostly the King Harbor marina. Lots of good places to eat (Blue Water Grill, Cheesecake Factory, Chart House, etc.), stay overnight (Portofino Hotel), rent bikes, boat rides, carnival games (Fun Factory), and so on can be found here. Basically it starts on Catalina Ave. by the power plant and goes all the way to Torrance Blvd. So in summary, the beaches of Redondo are probably not as good as those of Hermosa or Manhattan for pure swimming/beachgoing but they have everything else covered. You may just have to drive a little to get to the best spots. read more

Possibly my favorite beach in the South Bay. I feel in LOVE with South Bay when I used to live in NJ. I had friends out here and I would visit often. California's snake bite entered my blood stream. Now that I have lived in Torrance for the majority of my time in California it has really become home. The surf can get pretty nice at Redondo Breakwater and the Boardwalk is my favorite. It sorta has that Seaside Height / Coney Isand feeling a tiny bit. It is certainly more down to earth than Manhattan Beach. And people aren't in rage mode like Hermosa. The bars are inviting and comforting the type where you can really get to know the bartender and every now and then GREAT reggae bands come by. There is also a never ending set of stairs where people work out. If you are a tourist who has never been to LA. Please put Redondo on your to do list. I think it is my favorite of the beach cities. read more

Less tourists than Manhattan and Hermosa, that's what. :) FYI: I would recommend beach-goers pick a spot south and away from The Pier; that place is MAJORLY CROWDED near the El Torito with families and swarming kids...locals, you know exactly what I mean. Plan to camp on down the way towards the Avenues with "letters" for names: I, F, C, that's where you can actually take in the majesty. Knob Hill area is absolutely beautiful during sunsets. Breath-taking. RAT Beach is refreshing on a Sunday morning as well. I enjoy taking in the scenery of the cliffs to the south and around the bend into PV. This review is NOT taking into account The Redondo Beach Pier, that is a whole different animal. This is for the beaches only!! ;) read more

What a mess. This beach is infested with fleas that are swarming around kelp that has washed ashore. Not just a little bit... The entire shoreline infested with fleas. We could not get near the water the fleas were so bad. Why not hire some people to keep the beach clean? We did our best to stay away from the fleas but one child got bitten. This led to two hours of extra cleanup when we got home. Clothes straight into washer, kids in the bath, hair washed and combed with a head lice comb to be sure there were no fleas in there. Ugh. No fun at all. And now I have to inspect their hair everyday for four days to be sure there are no fleas. A state of such negligence is strange in a supposedly posh town like Redondo Beach. Never again. California Riviera? What a joke. read more

The beach is pretty nice but it is pretty small. There is a boardwalk and a small pier, it doesn't compare to the other beaches like Santa Monica, but it is very nice and clean. There are lots of parking spots on Catalina St if you prefer not to park in the parking structure. You can always walk around the boardwalk or the food court area where there are LOTS of seafood places! read more

We love redondo and all that comes with it. You can rent paddle boars, sit on the sand or go to the pier. The pier has tons of public parking so it's easy to park there and just walk to the beach. While it maybe isn't the most impressive beach or well kept, it is a nice one and everything that comes with it is fun. I think this is probably the best place around for paddle boarding. This is more of a locals spot so I think that people looking for some ritzy/glam beach might want to go closer to Manhattan. This is manhattans not as pretty or busy cousin, which I tend to prefer! read more

This beach is relatively clean, so you'll see plenty of people out and about swimming. The public restrooms aren't the cleanest, but aren't incredibly filthy either; it's what you'd expect to see at any beach. You'll most likely find water and sand all over the floors, but at least they're stocked up on toilet paper, unlike some other public facilities. They have volleyball nets up for you competitive volleyball goers out there. I like to toss my football around, but unfortunately, when I went it was a bit crowded to find a large enough space to play. Their designated bike routes make for a safer ride throughout the beach. Since I've seen a bunch of similar beach cruisers around, I'll assume that there's a bike rental place somewhere local. Also, if you're riding and stay close to the pier, it won't take long to hop from one restaurant/bar to another, which is a huge plus in my book! read more

Visited July 2,2016. I love this area. Parking structure is now a drive in, pay at kiosk format which really speeds things up. Handicap parking is free. Our favorite place to visit is Tony's on the Pier. I like that you can walk the half circle pier. There's beautiful cement art depicting the ocean along the way. The beach is lovely, although it can get crowded in the summer. They have a carnival style arcade. Fishing boats and excursions are also available. Lots of restaurants to choose from! Overall it's a nice place to spend the day or evening. We like to watch the fisherman fishing off the Pier. Most people are happy to show you their catches and share stories. I would never eat the fish from the bay (yet), but it's good to see life coming back thanks to the great efforts of locals and Heal The Bay. read more

It could get better. I mean come on now King Harbor? I remember when King Harbor was safe, those days are long gone and gone forever. There is good surfing. The water quality is hit or miss. (Google L.A. County Water Quality report) prior to going to any Beach. You would be surprised to find that most of the Beaches you see in movies and TV shows actually get F's 10-11 months out of the year. read more

Redondo Beach isn't quite as fancy as Manhattan or Hermosa which are north and reachable by the Strand (paved multi-use trail along the beach). It's a nice long beach that's great for swimming or other beach activities. There are problems with oil tar blobs along this beach. Supposedly they are from natural seepages. They stain clothes and are tough to get off. Redondo Beach is adjacent to the Palos Verdes Penninsula, so it's quite scenic. A drive up that way is nice. The pier area is a bit rundown and due for replacement and renovation, but there are some eateries and an amusement center. Enjoy!!! read more

He beach to ride your bikes and running here is so refreshing with the ocean breeze in your hair. When I came here there are tons of bikers and joggers on the trail so it was important to stay alert. Some bikers will zoom so close to you and even tell at you as if they own the trail. I try to not blast my music so I can hear what's happening around me. read more

I think I like all beaches in the SouthBay of SoCal. Ran 6 miles without a breeze. The scenery is peaceful and less congested with people as they are a mile north at Manhattan Beach. And so much easier to get parking. If you don't want to pay for parking drive a block east into the neighborhood - lots of parking. Great for running as there's different elevations, you can run on the street surface above or down below on the beach bike trail. The cool thing about Redondo Beach Pier is that it's circular so you aren't running linear. There's a lot of active people, sitting on the cement blocks above enjoying coffee and conversation, local neighborhood surfers riding the waves, bikers, walkers, and runners. It can be such a small world. I crossed with someone I went to high school and run track with back in high school - I didn't go to HS here so it is the most randomest place to see someone you haven't seen in over 18 yrs on a bike path at the beach. And of all beaches this beach. Recommended place to get outdoor activities in that's far away from congested areas. read more

Nice beach, sand was grainy, lots of people! Probably because it was labor day weekend and probably because I went to Long Beach and realize that this was 50x better! There were 2 things I didn't like about the experience: 1) charge for parking - no validation on holidays, the cheaper parking filled up! good thing we were able to borrow cash! 2) insects on the beach- lots of bugs flying around since there were lots of seaweed inplanted into the sand! If i were to lay down here, I'll probably feel like I'm a piece of rotting flesh with all those flies. Other than that, it was pretty great, the pier was awesome and massive...lots of stores and places to eat, the beach was massive, there were boat rides and submarine rides you could go on... Came here with my beau and friend who toured us around. Overall, pretty exciting place...and just 10 min away from my friend's house! Lucky guy. read more

I love eating the fresh seafood here: clam chowder, over 15+ different types of fresh oysters on the shell , sea urchin, fish & chips, crab, lobster, and the list goes on. Redondo beach was really pretty yesterday. Unfortunately it was severely overcrowded and all the adjacent parking lots were filled as well. Street parking was available if you were lucky enough. The beach had some areas that were taped and labeled as being closed or off limits. I didn't see any life guards to enforce this. And so, there were plenty of young children playing in those taped off areas, not taking the warnings to heart and not following the cautionary warnings. I'm glad that the pier was repaired and that it's not all just broken and weathered wooden slats up and down the pier area. I'm also glad that fishing only takes place on one side of the pier, not both so that it becomes too crowded to walk through on the path way. There were some folks hooked on drugs that were lurking in areas near stair wells and elevators. That was a tad scary for my kiddo. She enjoyed the arcade but they are going to be closing in a few days, for good. Lots of the stores sell a lot of the same things, novelty shirts, post cards, sand castle building materials, towels, flip flops, etc. Parking is $2 per hour in the pay station spots. The entire pier area smells of fish and seafood but at least it was not a rotten smell. Somehow I guess I expected more but oh well. read more

I've been to redondo beach a few times now, first with my friend Emily and now with my bro and father. I was pleasantly surprised that the beach was pretty nice the first time I went, especially having not heard about it that much. The crowd is mixed and there is a huge pier with restaurants, fishing, and boats. Expansive harbor and walks along the pier and shore. The first time I went I had some nice crab at one of the restaurants. It is great to walk along the beach and the pier just looking around and doing some sightseeing and maybe grab some crab or other seafood. read more

Nice spot to hang out, watch the sunset or tan. Great place to take a walk or eat at the nearby restaurants by the pier. I gave it 3 stars because of what I noticed on the shore while walking barefoot on the sand. Patches of oil! Don't swim at this beach, it's polluted. Tan, play on the sand but that's about it. I stepped on one of these oil patches. I didn't look down as I was walking, thought I stepped on a flat pebble but no, it was oil and it was soft, gooey and smelled like it came straight out of an engine. It was hard to take off and was unsuccessful trying to wash it off at the nearby shower stalls. Wrapped my foot with paper towels, put on my sock and went home. Cleaned it out on the tub with warm water, soap and a rag. Had to really work on it too. Yes, I threw away my sock! I like this place but the ocean is polluted. :-/ read more

Redondo Beach is a beach city situated approximately 7 miles south of the international airport. They have a wonderful pier with a lot of fish restaurants and markets, easily to access by a covered parking structure just landside underneath the pier. It is at the end of Torrance Blvd, heading west. The city has everything you need while traveling. All kinds of groceries, drugstores,bike rentals hotels etc... such a variety that is impossible to mention it all. The beach itself is (in my opinion) awesome. Huge waves, we are always having a lot of fun to dive into the ocean, in our case mostly in the late afternoon until sunset. After swimming and sunbathing you can change your clothes in one of the bath houses where also free showers and restrooms are provided. You can also rent a bike and ride right on the beach on the concrete pathways that are divided in one lane for each direction and a lane for pedestrians. Estimated every 200 ft apart is a lifeguard station that reminded of the series Baywatch with David Hasselhoff and of course Pamela Anderson. On weekdays you find lots of parking spaces along the street named Esplanade. Most of them are metered, cost 1,50$ per hour, but be sure to have enough quarters because that's the only way to pay (no credit cards accepted here, as in other parking meters). I'm a German guy and I come to SoCal with my family every year for a few weeks. Redondo is always a MUST in our itinerary. read more

Living in the South Bay all my life Redondo Beach was one of the many places I went to hang out. From when I was little the family would go to the RB pier almost ever Sunday and we would walk around sometimes play in sand or in the arcade and come home with crab and have that for dinner. I miss those times. Then as a teen coming here to the beach, hang out and try to get into the underground dance club. Riding the strand from here to the Manhattan Beach pier which I still do now. There are a lot of places that have come and gone near by RB like Recycled Records my favorite record store. Rocky Cola Cafe was one of my hangouts on a Sat night. I was sad when half of the pier burned down it took away a lot of businesses and for a long time crowds died down and other businesses had to close down. Now Redondo Beach has picked up again with new or revamped eating places, shops and of course the beaches. Even parking has changed a bit. Over all a nice city to see in the South Bay. read more

I live here and 4 stars feels right. It is the most affordable beach city and has many perks. The Riviera has a great vibe. The shops are cute, and the food is good. The pedestrian walk along the ocean offers stunning views. There is a grassy patch for your fur babies or small children. The Pier area is not my scene, but I know a lot of people do enjoy it. It does have very fresh seafood. Veterans Park in that area is very nice. It is the only park with an ocean view in South Bay that I am aware of. It tends to be way too crowded with an iffy crowd on the weekends in the summer. On Thursdays, there is a good sized Farmer's Market with free parking in the main lot. There are many parks and parkettes (no bathroom) in the city. I have always felt safe overall. There is much more racial diversity here in RB over the Hermosa and MB. MB is still my favorite beach city. read more

I bike along the beach starting from this point. It's really a great spot to hang out all day long. I start out here and bike through Hermosa, Manhattan, El Segundo, Playa del Rey to Marina del Rey. I'd go further into Venice, but there's a detour going on right now. There are plenty places to stop off at and grab a quick bite to eat. Love this trail, it's awesome. So many different views every day, none quite the same. Even the gloomy days are beautiful at the beach. Grab your bike and check it out! read more
