An amazing beautiful place to take respite from a busy day. Best to come during low tide to check out all the creatures in the naturally created tide pools. There are a couple free 30 minute parking spots at the top along the main road if you just want to check out the view. However I would park in the paid parking lot as you can easily spend the day here. It's a little hike (narrow and steep at times) to trek down to the beach but not too bad. Being here truly feels like being on vacation away from everything.

Abalone Cove is part of Abalone Cove Shoreline Park. It's possible to visit the Cove by hiking the trails and then walking back. A great place to hike and enjoy the scenery.

Views are amazing - you can see dolphins and wildlife although some surfers here Parking available - paid parking The beach width is short and very rocky/unsteady. Not many spots to easily take a seat to enjoy the view. If you're in the area it's great to pop by here, it's gorgeous, just not the kind of place to picnic or bring your grandma due to the uneven ground.

Saw this dude grabbing a drink of water.

Small parking lot, so arrive early on weekends and during the summer. Pretty solid hike down to the actual beach, but a nice spot and one of the only areas in RPV where there is a bit of actual sand instead of the rocky shoreline that exists everywhere else.

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful spots in Los Angeles, these tidepools are filled with ACTUAL sea life in abundance. Mussels, crabs, fish, and more line the pools and create beautiful landscapes. It's breathtaking and really quite beautiful. There are many crevices that are perfect for exploring, and long strands of kelp envelope the entirely of the cove. From the cliff above, you can see the beautiful horizon stretching for miles. The park is completely free to go to, although if you don't want to walk, you can pay like $12 for parking. Get ready to spend the whole day there, this little treat is really worth the drive.

Get all the way down to the bottom of the cliff!

My wife and went for the first time and this won't be our last for sure! Great place to spend a full day. Bring some food and have a picnic! It's a little bit of a hike so I would advise highly to bring comfortable outdoor clothing. Parking is free the first 30 minutes then $6 for up to 2 hrs then $12. Got some great pictures. This place is a gem to be seen.

BEAUTIFUL shoreline with tide pools filled with mussels, starfish, crabs and many other organisms. Can't believe this is right up my back yard in the South Bay Area! We had this as the destination of a hike from the top of Del Cerro park. Bring a picnic! And if you're up for it there are ocean caves you can jump into for a quick swim. Definitely check it out!

The hike to the tide pools can get narrow and you must walk single file in a very narrow section.

A friend said it, "Beautiful cove in Rancho Palos Verde" and it couldn't be more true. Spending a…read moreday exploring Terranea was a great way to beat the heat with bae. The beach cove and sea cave are open to the public and super fun to explore though the closer you get to the cave the rockier the incline so be careful, watch your step and have on some sensible foot attire. The cliff side mountain structure is beautiful as well, the formation of various shades of earth, gorgeous brown, orange, beige, gray and truly cool hues. There are some wooden Adirondack chairs apart of the resort, free to use lots of patches of sand and rocks to spread out a small blanket or sit on and views upon views of the ocean. Picnic friendly, but very quaint. You can see a lot of look out points and paths close by and just before you decline there is one final pool area (for guest)with tables on the outside for public use. It's very serene, peaceful and even with packs of adorable families and energetic kids very relaxing. The waves and breeze kind of make everything calm (holding the hand of someone special for a beat doesn't hurt either). Unfortunately pets aren't allowed in this area and there is a bridge with a pup corner with rails to leave your dog as well as bowls for water. Felt bad for the one we saw wanting to play with their family, but I'm optimistic they got spoiled after. Definitely will get lost in this cove meets cave meets beach again in the near future.

I felt a little awkward getting here since the trail is though the Terranea resort, and I had to…read morewalk through through the impeccably maintained golf course and the obviously wealthy patrons on the green. No one bothered us though! The cove itself has a rocky beach with beach chairs, and a kayak rental service if you want to explore the cave by the ocean. If you time your visit to coincide with a low tide, you can clamber on some rocks to get to the cave. Unfortunately, I couldn't explore at low tide and I didn't have time to rent a kayak. I did find the stroll enjoyable as the path is well maintained. There are publicly accessible bathrooms on the way down to the cove.

The birds can fly at 60mph & dive at 70mph so if you score an action photo consider it pure luck. Crows are highly intelligent, can identify a human & do not forget a face (the original facial recognition?). They know me & often buzz me just for fun. My fave is a one-legged crow who sometimes lands beside me along with a couple of his/her buddies, curious & waiting to have their picture taken. I've determined that crows are show-offs. They perform impressive aerial maneuvers, each trying to outdo the other with flying skills. How many crows to expect? It's hit or miss - some days there are dozens, some days fewer than 10. I'm not especially fond of the crows who leave dead rats in my gutters or pound on my chimney cap incessantly....but those Lunada Bay crows have won me over. I've been known to hang out with them 'till my camera battery dies. And then I get home only to discover I've barely missed every great shot, except occasionally one, cuz they're so fast & my camera is slow. I'll get a better camera & then perhaps will have something to crow about. Meanwhile, the show must go on.

However, I respect and truly admire that they added a cultural term to modern vocabulary: the Tardis Effect, which basically means that you enter a space and it is more spacious and complex than you can imagine based on what you believe it can hold based on exterior. Another example is Snoopy's Dog house. And as a final example, I offer a person's head. It does not seem like it holds a lot but it holds an ever expansive universe of thoughts, ideas and memories. This park can serve as another example of the Tardis Effect. It is a small park, like legit tiny, but when you look from its multiple view points you see the vastness of the pacific ocean and shore lines, which can induces so much within your head universe. Like one time I went and I imagined that a sea monster would rise from the waters far away. The sea monster was like Godzilla, except purple and its blast were white and froze people to death. Missiles could not quell its fury. I imagined that the solution would have to be mystical like when Perseus defeated the Kraken using Medusa's head. I repeat that the park is small by feet or metric cubes, or what ever unit of measure is used to measure a park's length, but when you enter you will see more than you expected, if you let yourself. I wonder what the opposite of the Tardis Effect is? What is something that is super big but when you step inside is actual small. Hopefully, a whale's belly cause I might end up there one day and wish to survive. If you are not one who embraces imaginative trips, this place offers something more grounded: beautiful views that are plainly gorgeous. When you allow yourself to sit and view, you want to take pictures, you want to have a date, you want to have a meaningful conversation, you want to meditate. It is a small gulp of fresh air that can be released into a big space. Logistically, parking is hard to come by. I am a local so I park on the street nearby and walk. I do not have a parking permit, I find street parking. The walk from the park to the car is not that long and depending on your fitness level it can be exhausting or a breeze. I went today to hike some of its neighboring trails. And the trails were closed. So expect this place to be a treat, if you are the type of person who can take the small of the earth and see the large of the earth.
