Such a wonderful spot to come and take a walk or go running. It's clean, amazing views and so many cute dogs! There is plenty of parking and you pay on the meters. You can also park by the residential area as well and it's a short walk. The bathrooms are somewhat clean but on a busy weekend or holiday they do get sandy and all that good stuff. They have showers outside as well usually close to the bathrooms to wash off. Love that there are vendors on Sundays like Fruit stands, and other private Vendors that are set up. If you walk a bit more there's the Farmers Market on Sunday's that you can enjoy.. I really enjoy coming here with family and friends. Sunsets are the best here as well.. read more

Torrance beach is the place to go! Redondo beach is always packed and dirty. But if you just go a few miles down you'll find yourself here. The water is clean and there is usually room for you to set up not too far from bathrooms. We came on a Friday mid day and it was at first packed but around 3pm people started leaving and it was practically empty. The sun was perfect by that time too. Definitely recommend coming a bit later to avoid crowds read more

There are a large number of young adults living out of luxurious camper vans here. A leisurely stroll will likely be interrupted by used needles and piles of feces from an unknown mammal species. Thanks to our local government for allowing this is continue in our front yards! read more

Love this beach! Last stopped by on Sat, 7/29/2023 at around 10:15 AM to help reserve some spots for some friends. The weather was beautiful and the beach was pretty clean. The water was cold but a lot of us ended up going into the water to enjoy some sea-time. The day we went, it was kinda cloudy but the sun came out to say hello towards the afternoon. Restrooms are available. I went in the morning and they were relatively clean at that point. Parking - $7.00 paid parking with plenty of spots that are very convenient and close to the beach. People were manning the parking lot in the morning, but there wasn't anyone at the booth when we left in the afternoon. Tip: If you need to reserve a bigger area, please come earlier since it was getting more packed by the time we had to leave. It seemed like we saw a few different activities/events going on. We saw an engagement party next to us and a funeral/memorial happening as well. I'll be coming back! Definitely worth the drive here. read more

FOUND MY GO TO BEACH!!!! Incredibly clean. No rocks (just baby clams in the sand). Public restrooms that are clean. Plenty of street parking. I'm surprised there are beaches like this still around. It was so so clean. Seaweed was there but nothing too crazy. Waves were manageable so perfect for people who want to swim in the water. No crazy dip into the deep end either just gradual progression until you can't touch the bottom. One thing I will note. If you go during peak hours your better off finding parking on the street. The paid lot if kind of tiny and the parking attendant just keeps letting people in even when the lot is full. Spent 30 minutes inside while people kept finding parking on the street long before us. Street parking isn't even miles away. It's literally the sidewalk next to the paid section. So incredibly convenient. It definitely get crowded. I've never been to the beach when people are riiiiighr next to each other but this was that kind of day. We walked further down past the last bathroom and found a nice area that didn't have any pop up tents or large groups. Definitely coming back! read more

A nice flat stretch of clean sand for strolling with gentle waves for swimming or other sports. It's less crowded than most beaches in the area and easy to find a spot to park- if you're lucky you can find free parking. Also, this is great for shell hunting at the right time of year. There is a lot of sand to hang out on as well as there is a very nice bike path that goes along the lower level of the beach. This is a great place to walk, run, or ride your bike. Love this beach for the strand biking area below the hill that connects to the other beaches as you bike north. You can also run south towards Palos Verdes on the sand there is a short little path back up to the parking lot and a decent surf area before you hit the rocks. The upper area by the street has a sidewalk that is great for walking dogs just next to the meter parking. I do wish they enforced people not drinking in this area better. A beer or two is understandable but there's no need to get wasted at sunset. read more

Just south of the Redondo Beach beach's border is Torrance Beach. Until recently I've been unclear as to the difference between Torrance Beach, RAT Beach & Burnout Beach. Thanks to a Yelp review I think I've mostly got it now. I always knew that RAT Beach is the southernmost, often accessed by the path down from lower Malaga Cove. I've wondered....what is Burnout Beach & where did it get that name? I began to figure it out thanks to a plaque by the dolphin statue at Miramar Park. The park occupies part of the former location of the historic Hollywood Riviera Beach Club, a huge architecturally splendiferous structure built in 1930 by developer Clifford Reid.....who also built his own fabulous residence a short distance up the hill (in Hollywood Riviera) on Via Monte D'Oro (currently restored & up for sale & oh I wish I could buy it). Reid built other homes in HoRiv but I haven't seen one as spectacular as his own (on half an acre). Anyway, the Beach Club burned down in 1958. Burnout Beach! So, apparently it's RAT Beach south end, Burnout Beach next to it on the north, then Torrance Beach bordering Redondo. Hopefully now I can post my beach photos to the proper beaches. It's been a beach of a confusing dilemma for years. I'm still thinking that RAT & Burnout might be sections of Torrance Beach with "pet" names...but I'm likely wrong. Too much sand in my brain. I'm working on it. Oh and, parking: a big pay lot borders the beach stretching from Miramar Park down to RAT. Or park free on Paseo De La Playa next to the pay lot - or - free on surrounding residential streets. Street parking availability on De La Playa depends on beach weather, weekend/weekday & surf conditions. The beach includes: Bathrooms, showers, a couple volleyball nets. South Bay bicycle path right along the sand. Abundant shell-hunting possibilities, especially south end at low tide. Beautiful views for photo ops. All things considered, including proximity to home & general lack of crowds, this is currently my beach of choice. I love it, confirmed by my garden full of shells. read more

Back in the day, this was my everyday, and I do mean everyday, break of choice. (Of course the disclaimer here is everyday means depending on the surf). I like the main lifeguard tower area and Ave. I in particular, but as most every surfer knows, if you surf, you need to get there early in the A.M. for the best conditions, the smallest crowds and the fewest swimmers. But I also have a soft spot for Topaz beach down the way as that is the break I learned to surf at... Sandbars abound and can make for some nice little beach breaks, but also can make for some pretty strong rips, so swimmers beware. The beach itself is is really pretty decent sized and despite its size, it can get pretty crowded in the summer months. It's not uncommon to see dolphins frolicking just outside the break too. There is a nice long bike / pedestrian path that goes for about a mile and a half, from the main tower to the Redondo Beach pier for riding, jogging or just a relaxing walk. Parking is kiosk type in the big lot from the main tower to just south of Ave. I, then after that is street parking and hoofing it... Love me some Torrance Beach, even if I don't get in the water like I used too... read more

I'm utterly shocked if people who live close by are not walking this stretch (or running it) every morning. It's absolutely gorgeous, especially when walking towards the peninsula. I visited Torrance Beach on my last day in the Redondo Beach area, and was in love. We got out there around 9am (even earlier is my preference, but it was still slow on a Wednesday morning), and with coffee in hand, walked along the sidewalk stretch watching the waves, the surfers, the swimmers. I didn't actually dip my feet in the ocean or walk on the sand, but from the perspective of the sidewalk, the beach looked super clean. Like... one of the cleanest I've seen. Even devoid of seaweed on the sand. Maybe it was my perspective, but it looked like a beach you'd be lucky to soak in. Future trips will definitely involve a long beach day on this beach. read more

Lovely and safe beach. During our last visit we brought our 94 y.o. auntie. The LA County lifeguards were super helpful. Sam, the lifeguard in charge at Torrance Main was amazing, checking in on our elder ensuring she was safe, happy and her needs were met. 1st class service. I just went to Torrance Beach about three days ago, but Torrance Beach is not the Torrance Beach that I know anymore. We went there as a family of 4, we wore masks to prevent contagion while we were sightseeing, strolling at the beach. It is so unfortunate, that apparently the whole Torrance is racist and intolerant NOW. No, I did not take any videos or pictures, even though maybe I should? While we were going about our way at the beach, people were mocking us due to our mask wearing, we ignored them. There was an old white guy who was approaching us smirking and just standing there and watching us everywhere we went. We felt so uncomfortable, so we went back to our car. We were going to just enjoy the beach from inside the car, but unable to do so because 3 to 4 cars around us were smoking joints (marijuana), we can smell the marijuana in the air. Based on our experience, it might not be a good idea to go to Torrance Beach NOW if: 1. you have family with kids, almost everyone at the beach smoked joints. 2. Asians with masks, I was going to record all of the mocking, but my wife told me not to. 3. Law abiding citizen who wants to comply with mask wearing mandate; it's not just us, other people with masks were also smirked by so many people. We drove away from the beach towards Rancho Palos Verdes, parked our car near the residential area and ate our lunch there. It is very disheartening to see Torrance Beach became so hostile to us and not family friendly anymore. If you value your health or high risk individuals, please AVOID to go to Torrance Beach NOW. If you are Asians and/or law abiding masks wearing mandate citizen, please DO NOT come here, unless you are MENTALLY PREPARED to be mocked and looked at as ALIEN from other planets. I called Torrance PD regarding the incidence and this is what they said: "We don't enforce wearing mask, Sir. And mocking is not a criminal activity." I understood that mocking is not a criminal activity, when I called, I was just pleading for someone from Torrance PD to be there to educate the unruly crowd. read more

The surfers here are a-holes and the lifeguards hardly lift a finger to do anything about it. My daughter and I got hit nearly 3 times by a surfer who knew exactly what he was going. The lifeguard eventually walked over to check in on us after the 3rd time, and then proceeded to sit on his a** thereafter. When we confronting the surfer about his behavior, he puffed himself up, walked over to my husband and pushed him, trying to instigate a fight. His buddies also ran over to surround the area, one even walked over to where I went back to my daughter. Lifeguard again, nowhere to be seen. read more

I visited this beach early one Saturday morning. My mission? To look for coastal treasures like sea glass, shells, and the like via an Airbnb experience I had signed up for. The host of this experience was Deborah and she knows this beach inside and out. She even got married here 25 years ago. It's a nice beach with a good view of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. There were plenty of surfers doing their thing. I even saw a couple of guys spear fishing. My beachcombing experience didn't land me any sea glass, but I did find plenty of tiny shells and several horn shark egg casings. The egg casings are shaped like a corkscrew. I also found a strange star shaped jellyfish-type creature hanging out in the sand. The sound of the waves rolling in and out of the shore was so meditative. I really liked how this beach was not crowded. There was plenty of parking via a lot or meters. I didn't bring enough quarters for the meter so I paid 7$ for all day parking, which I thought was kind of steep. That was a minus for sure. The other minus was the trash I found along the beach. I found more trash than shells, sadly enough, especially soda caps and LOTS of straws. It made me sad to think that these plastics could be swallowed by marine animals. Please, pick up your trash whenever you visit the beach! And consider no longer using straws or plastic water bottles:) read more

This is definitely the beach to go to when you want to be left alone. You won't have to run into a lot of folks you really don't want to see at this Beach. In my opinion, it's the most family friendly beach I've been to. There were so many kids building sand castles and actually playing in the sand and water. For all you people out there that's looking to catch an eye, or looking for the girls this isn't the beach for you. Take that 4 beaches north to Venice lol. My boy LJ and I spent about 2 and a half hours out just catching the sun and fighting the waves. We even played a little flag football with some folks that were out near our location. Parking was easy as well. There's plenty of places to park in the community for free. We all no that's not always the case at the beaches here, so that was def a plus. 5 stars! read more

Been coming to Torrance and rat beach since I was born. It has a small town feel and you get to see and know the locals as you take your weekly walks or visits on the esplanade. The main parking lot is a true gem when it comes to framing a perfect shot of the entire beach from aboVe. On most days that are clear you can see all the way down to Santa Monica and more. In the summer months the entire community comes down and the sand is packed and looks Like a scene from bay watch. If you live here or grew up near by , you know how special this place is. This beach is a hidden gem in the South Bay! It's very clean, quiet and hardly ever crowded. You usually only see locals around here. I'm not sure what it's like in the summer time but the times I've been it was always peaceful and fun to walk along the path and catch the sunset at the end of the day before retreating home. It's also very romantic too! Parking is plentiful and metered along the Esplanade. There are also many shops and restaurants that are within walking distance toward Redondo. You can walk for miles or even spend the entire day walking all the way to Santa Monica and back if you feel like it. If you have a penchant for photographing sunsets, you'll like Torrance Beach. This is definitely one of my favorite spots in the South Bay. read more

This has been my 'go to' beach since the 80's. Wedged in between PV and Redondo is Torrance Beach. Torrance Beach is divided into RAT beach to the South, Burnout Beach in the center, and Torrance beach proper which is right at the border of Redondo. These are 'local' beach names. The steep ramp area at the end of the parking lot is known as burnout and is popular with surfers, especially gromits which get dropped off by their parents on the Summer mornings. There are bathrooms, outdoor showers, lifeguard station, and a beach café that does rentals during the Summer. If you don't want to walk up and down the steep concrete ramp, there is a sandy path to walk down. There are also a couple of Volleyball courts by the swing sets. The Summer can get very crowded since they run a couple of surf camps, but you can always go south towards RAT beach. The nice thing is that the Lifeguards don't blackball the entire beach from surfers, but even if you want to surf on a busy day at the beach, swimmers will be in your line. With the amenities, easy access, and parking, Torrance is a great family beach. read more

Hidden gem. A few volleyball courts and a Beach Tennis court that gets a lot of action on Saturday mornings for $30/hr lessons from Tommy through Catalina. BT is the bomb. Also dolphins are usually hanging out in the surf and really fun to watch. Waves are surfable and great for beginners because they are not as big as say Huntington Beach. read more

Torrance Beach is between Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes. It's not as crowded as other beaches, parking isn't much of a hassle on most non-summer days. You can either do metered parking on the sidewalks or pay $3-6 for a day pass in the parking lots. Great views of the PV peninsula here. It's a lot smaller than other beaches, but I love this place. Torrance beach is rarely ever crowded, so it's great if you want to just focus on the scenery. Most of the time, you'll just see families, people walking their dogs, elderly people walking across the Esplanade and occasional surfers. If you're looking to people watch, or see a lot of non-beach related stuff, this is probably not the beach for you. It's a very clean and peaceful area. Only real issues I ever had with this place are people riding their bikes down the walkways to the beach, it's really unsafe when you consider how fast you're going down that hill and how many kids are in the area. Every path has a sign at the start that says you should walk down these paths, wish it was better enforced. Also the men's bathroom stalls don't have doors, so it can be weird if you need to go here. This is easily my favorite beach in SoCal. It's one of those spots where I can spend an afternoon just enjoying the weather, the views and the sound of the waves. For years, I've walked the strand, then walked back on the Esplanade and every time it just puts me at peace. I'm sure I'll be doing that walk for years to come, there's just something about this place that keeps me coming back (even though I live 60+ miles away). If you find that the beaches in your area are a little too busy, Torrance beach might be the place for you. read more

How can you describe the magic of the beaming face of a young man who has just caught his very first stand-up wave or seen a pod of dolphins in the ocean with you close enough to touch? It was the second day of his surf lesson and I'd given him all the instructions he needed to know the day before. Today, I would simply be there in case of trouble. I saw him paddle into a wave, watched as the wave caught him and grinned as he rose to his feet. He fell near shore, stood back up and looked back out at me, praying I'd seen his magnificent accomplishment. The sparkle from his eyes and gleam from his laughter shown bright against the dullness of the morning and the green of the sea...you just knew this was a moment he'd never forget. It was a two-fer this morning as shortly after, I spotted a pod of dolphins making their way north, slowly skirting the shoreline. I said "Watch this!" and paddled on an intercept course with the pod. He saw as for a brief moment, dolphins swam in front, in back and underneath me with no fear at all...just another thing to play with. My surfing companion, having never seen anything like this, was stunned. It was just another magic day in the surf. read more

This is a small, secluded beach. It's a gem and secret to the locals. This is where the bike path ends and begins, and the South Bay meets Palos Verdes Estates. No pier or other loud attractions. The general feeling of this beach is seclusion. Hills of flowers and cliffs protect the beach from the street, as it curves around into the cliffs of Palos Verdes Estates. great place to escape the crowds of Redondo to the north and has a park with great vistas and volleyball. A popular longboarding beach, it is best on a North/ Northwest swell. Other activities include swings and volleyball. The restrooms and showers are all very clean. read more
