Fine, I'll admit it: I'm in love with Lakeshore Learning…read more I was first tipped off about this place by one of my baby's (okay, so she's two...not exactly a baby but whatever ;) therapists and to say it was love at first sight...that wouldn't come close to cutting it. I'm a mom of four (5, 4, 4, and 2) and my youngest three have developmental delays from mild to severe. While my husband and I have come up with some amazingly engaging/proactive activities for the kids thus far, we're always on the hunt for more, for better, for That One Item/Activity/Etc. We've Been Missing. Lakeshore Learning--much to the chagrin of my Visa card--has yet to disappoint. It's by no means exclusively a store for teachers; it's by no means exclusively a store for special needs parents. Sure, sensory items and activities abound...block play, active play, puzzles, and manipulatives in abundance--but this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you don't want to make the trip (although I don't know why you wouldn't!), hit up the website and request a catalog. It is huge, glossy, and enticing. Also? Lakeshore Learning offers up a pretty sweet check in deal for the mobile Yelping crowd. As *if* you needed more incentive to stop in, right? Riiiiiiight. :)

But when we went to the place you pick whatever robot you want to build and it's not included in the ticket. Robot prices cost $25-$65. The host was pretty nice and he provided us with a cutter and a screwdriver. Then he played a movie while we built the robot. In the middle of the movie he provided free beer and popcorn presented by a walking robot!! At the end of the night there Wes's a robot movie trivia which was fun. The experience was really fun but I think it is a bit expensive for the ticket not including the robot.

We chose our robot (you pay for this at the store on top of the $50 deposit). Our facilitator was basically absent for 90% of us building the robots. My boyfriend had to go knock on the back door to get him because us along with other couples had questions. He left in the middle of the event to go buy the "complimentary" popcorn. He just wasn't present and didn't make the environment fun or engaging for anyone. Overall, it was an ok experience but the facilitator and venue did not have add anything to our experience. One of the laziest groups of employees I've encountered works at this Disc Replay location. I…read morecouldn't find a specific item, so I asked a male employee for assistance. Instead of actually checking, he led me to a section that I already knew was incorrect. I went along with it briefly to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it quickly became clear he wasn't interested in helping. Without making any effort to search or verify, he simply said they didn't have the item. He then brought over another employee who immediately backed him up rather than attempting to locate the item or provide any real assistance. This was a stark contrast to my past experiences at the Orland Park location, where employees were helpful, looked items up on their computers, and were able to locate plenty of what I was searching for. Unfortunately, the lack of effort and professionalism at this location has cost them a long-time customer. I will not be returning.

I really enjoy coming to disc replay due to their large selection of games and merchandise. However…read moreI had a poor experience today when I noticed one of the plush toys I purchased was already damaged. I came in to make the return, pointing out the damage showing my receipt and the plush's original packaging and price tag, and offered either store credit or to replace it with the same plush or one of equal value. I was told no, and that they don't accept returns. Despite the fact all plush are sealed meaning I couldn't have examined it for damage til I purchased it, and they were the ones who had ordered the merchandise and sold it to me, meaning the blame is on the buyer not the consumer. I felt my money was wasted with my purchase as well as my time with my attempt to return it.
