I have a group that does lunch every Friday at a various locations. We decide to give Red Wheel a shot and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good. Large portions and fairly priced. Huge menu! We will be back. read more

On our way through, stopped in Rantoul for an early dinner. Saw great reviews for another place, but they were closed, so we tried the Red Wheel. This is a cross between a truck stop and a generic family breakfast and diner restaurant. There was a lot of options in the menu and daily specials. No trouble getting a parking space or a table. (It was 4:15pm in a Sunday.) Only a handful of people in the restaurant, although they had a kid's party in the party room. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I was skeptical of what to order based on other reviews, so i played it safe and ordered breakfast. I had the ribeye steak and eggs, which was totally fine. Don't expect a great steak with your eggs, but it wasn't bad. They cooked my steak medium rare and hash browns extra crispy, just like I ordered. (It's shocking that I almost never get either of those cooked the way I ask.) My sun said his omelet was good too. My wife's got Turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy were not so great. Better than a frozen dinner, but not a lot. I think you can count on a solid breakfast, and should just be realistic about keeping it simple here. (I bet they make a decent club sandwich too.) Not bad for a quick meal at a roadside diner. read more

Great service - Jess, Austin, and Leland rock! Stopped here with a group of 25 teens on a school trip. They were quick to take our orders, fast and organized getting the food out to us, and friendly to us road weary travelers. Food was tasty, hot and the milkshakes brought ALL of us to the yard. read more

This place has really gone down hill since I was here 2 years ago! Still a super friendly staff and very clean establishment. It took forever to get waited on a long time for the food to arrive! The meal had an off-putting taste which I finally attributed to the melted cheese. I ordered my eggs over easy and they arrived way overcooked! Their prices are quite high!!! $4.00 for a small milk!!! Won't be returning! read more

The service was just ok but the food was not good can not recommend this restaurant. This facility is decent and location has a lot of potential however there would need to be tremendous changes to fix the food preparation quality issues. read more

They have delicious breakfast only been twice but service was great both times and the love was very clean

staff seemed nice until she added extra tip for herself and lied about how much the salad bar was, the food here was nasty made me and my family sick as a dog! tell me how 3 meals that were $9.99 with what she said was $3 for the salad bar added up to $92.50 before tipping? read more

Food is on par with what comes out of a banquet TV dinner package. Onion ring side/appetizer consists of three onion rings for $7.00! If the quality was anything above mediocre I could possibly overlook the prices. Duo, ET's and Ott's are FAR better options in Rantoul! read more

I was craving chicken strips, but not the drive through kind, after a long day of horse showing. I was pleased that they offered to give me extra dipping sauce with my tenders. Sadly, it took forever to prepare them and my fries came out first. The tenders were tough- either over cooked or had been frozen too long. The milk shake was good, though. I did have to wait forever for my check. read more

Experience here was alright. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon driving back to Chicagoland from Southern Indiana-land. The place itself is pretty big, and they had quite a few customers there even though it was not peak dining time. It's your typical "been around since my grandparents" type of diner, with generous portions, and decor that probably hasn't changed in a long while. The food looked good, I tried the beef stroganoff which comes with fried mashed potatoes. I think I was more interested in the concept of fried mashed potatoes than the beef stroganoff itself, but I found both to be decent. Good portions and fairly flavorful. It's not a place I'd go out of my way for, but it was pretty conveniently located right off I-57. If you're looking for decent and decently priced diner food, this is your place. read more

Ordered farmers omelet and bucusit and gravey. The food was not eatable. Sausage was bad, bucusit was doughy. All the waitress could do is give us a senior discount. We were seniors! Still cost $40.00. read more

Wanted to support local business, the service from the wait staff was alright but there was literally multiple hairs in my food. Will not be returning. read more

Stopped here for brunch on our way to Michigan. The parking lot was full so we knew it must be good. It did not disappoint. My husband and friend had the farmers omelet. Eggs with hash browns, sausage, bacon, cheese, They said the eggs were sooo fluffy- 'the best they have ever had. I had biscuits and gravy with crispy bacon. Very tasty. Wait staff was excellent and very friendly!! Prices were good too. Would stop again. read more

Good food but a little pricey. The restaurant was clean and the server was friendly and quickly took care of us. Overall I would recommend.

I was there this morning. and the waitress came by and asked if we were ready to order we said we need a min. roughly 10 min later she never came back to rake our order. so we walked out. if that is rge type of wait staff they want i womt be back. there are more options in this town then there read more

Absolutely loved our breakfast here, fresh coffee and refilled often, eggs cooked exactly to order for both my husband and I, hash browns cook to crispy just as asked and very friendly waitstaff! Thank you for making our stay in your town a better one!! read more

The food is not that great unless you want eggs and bacon every time you eat . They need a better menu with great tasting food, not food that taste like it came out of a bag read more

My husband and I were on the road going back home from the ozarks and stopped in here. It was amazing! They knew how to cook an egg and the bacon was perfect. We also shared a waffle with strawberries that was one of the best waffles I e ever had. Service and prices were great too! Would definitely eat here again. read more

I only are here once and not by my choice. The venue was not clean 'feeling' and food all tasted like it was heat and serve--- my main complaint is with the owners recent business tactic that stifled the opening of a competitor on the east side of Rantoul. If this place was so 'great' why worry if some one open an eatery 2 Miles down the road?? 2 read more

i ate the chicken fried steak and now im sick. good service and everything but the food isnt allat. the soup was great but i feel like they need to improve on the main dishes. it has an OK ambiance but other than that, its a nice place. read more

Being a lifelong resident of Rantoul I might be considered biased but "The Wheel" has always been a favorite of mine and my family's. The breakfasts are always a hit and the AYCE fish is a must if you like fish or shrimp. My fav is the chopped steak and eggs with Country Bob's on the side. The omelettes are very good and the turkey club is very filling. The servers are very good, some are like family. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star was the bathroom, which has been a long running joke these last several years amongst my friends and family, but they have been improved somewhat. read more

Nice selection on menu, clean, good food, and our waitress was outstanding. She was working alone and suddenly had several customers, she never missed a beat. Very prompt and attentive to all customers. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Great breakfast spot very consistent food, friendly staff, and clean place. We usually eat there every morning when in Rantoul

A fairly middle of the road dining experience. There's nothing I'd rave about, but nothing I would go out of my way to complain about. Breakfast, as usual with these types of places, is where you typically can't go wrong. In fact, if you've ever been to a local family restaurant you can probably order without looking at the menu. In life, they say, the middle of the road is the easiest place to get run over. But in your dining it'll do. read more

Turn the corner off interstate 57 in rural Illinois. You are surrounded by corn fields on three sides and your typical fast food chains and gas station wall you in. Like an oasis in a restaurant desert Red Wheel Restaurant beckons the weary traveler to its almost vacant parking lot. Aside from the obvious jokes delirious road warriors can make about the name "Red Wheel" the place hits the spot for under $40 for a family of four. The child's popcorn shrimp platter is more than enough to feed any child or three. The fried goodies were delicious and neither one of my picky underage travelers complained. The man got the Stromboli which is just a pizza chimichanga and just as tasty as one could imagine a tortilla wrapped, pan fried pizza to be. The woman (me) got a big slab of ribeye. Dead cow. What more could I ask for while riding the red wheel. read more

HAHA.. we had Aryn as our server, and you didn't!! She told us about the specials.. Soups.. We both had the AYCE walleye, baked potato and green beans. Generous portion of fish!! Aryn brought us a small plate of the shrimp, because you can do that with the AYCE walleye, perch or shrimp. Lots of food for under $10 a person.. However, I took 1 star off for the salad, because it tasted like it was frozen... Dumplings in the soup were very different from what I'm used to..... read more

Great food, nice staff, and lovely atmosphere! Get the Alaskan Waffle. It's really good.

I no longer go to red wheel be as every time I go the food is terrible, the place is run down looking and the staff is rude. The owner is also a terrible business owner, stifling competition in a town desperately in need of choices. I will never come here again. The food alone is reason enough but the attitude of the establishment is the nail in the coffin for me. Never again. read more

I chose breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. I had gotten it here before and it was an oversized tenderloin steak with lettuce, onion and tomato. Great. This last time however, it was as if they were cutting costs and quality. I got a frozen patty like something you would buy in the Frozen food section of Aldi. No lettuce, no tomato, no onion, no flavor. Terrible. A cheap patty of something on a bare bun. And the fries were limp and undercooked. What happened? read more

I Allway enjoy going to the red wheel ,Great service, The waitress Allway Great services.

Mediocre at best. I had the tenderloin Manhattan and the gravy was straight out of a bottle and the tenderloin was fried until it was really dry. read more

The Red Wheel is a near the high way diner. No frills, nothing fancy, but hey, 'twas enjoyable. I won't say the food was epic, but it got the job done, and the server was super awesome and she kept her cool despite a few random incidents, such as a suicidal ranch container that chose to cover her from near head-to-toe in ranch. That said, IF you're in Rantoul, why not stop by? It's hardly a draw otherwise, but I was intrigued by any restaurant that would have a marquis that bellowed PANCAKES//STEAKS! What a combination. It's like Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles had a strange cousin. read more

Service was good, food and drink was not. Soda was basically syrup, no carbonation. My husband got the 3 egg breakfast, the scrambled eggs werent cooked all the way they were wet. The toast was cold and floppy. The bacon was cold and looked old. Hashbrowns were greasy and not cooked the way he asked. They comped his part of the meal, and for my French toast and hashbrowns(also greasy that I didnt eat) the 2 sodas he tried, a cup of coffee and a childs sized orange juice for our daughter it was $16. Safe to sadly say we will not be visiting again. read more

No taste with the hamburgers, too expensive for the quality of the food. Though very friendly staff. Don't care for the french fries, need to have options. Vegetables taste like a tin can, need to have frozen ones. Need to have a buffet option and better steaks. Tacos and some Mexican food options. I think that they could make a lot of money if they became buffet style. read more
