My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding. It was a spectacular event, due in no small part to Steven, May, and Sisi at Red Wedding. I was born in the U.S., part Italian Catholic, part Jewish. My husband was born in China. We had a lot of traditions to celebrate at our wedding and Red Wedding helped make sure everyone from every background felt totally included, with music, activities, and live translation of the whole reception. From the initial planning meetings with Steven, we knew we were in good hands. He was extremely organized and attentive to detail as we walked through the full reception timeline together, minute by minute. He was a good listener, understanding the type of event we wanted, which allowed him to make very helpful suggestions for the programming and timing. Steven was very generous with his time in these planning meetings, and the materials he prepped and shared (timelines, song lists, lists of key persons to recognize, etc.) meant that we knew in advance that everything would go smoothly on the big day. We also really appreciated that May, our DJ, and Sisi, our English/Mandarin MC, took the time to meet with us in advance of the wedding as well so that we were on the same page with everything from musical styles to how to pronounce the wedding party's names exactly right in both languages. My husband and I also really appreciated how well the Red Wedding team worked with our main contact at the reception venue and with our month-of wedding coordinator, taking the time to meet with them in advance to hash out logistics and set out clear roles & responsibilities. All of this planning meant that the reception itself was nothing short of spectacular! The grand entrance, the first dance, the mother-son dances, the anniversary game, the hora, the dance sets - everything was flawless! Seriously, I have been dreaming about my first dance with my spouse at my wedding since I was a little kid and - just like the title of our song - it was Perfect. May did an amazing job as DJ striking the right tone for all the different segments of the evening. Sisi was absolutely delightful as MC - she was energetic and funny and sweet but still kept the spotlight on us and our whole family, keeping both the American and Chinese sides engaged and partying together. Red Wedding is amazing. Though I hired Steven and May for DJ/MC and sound, they functioned like a second wedding planner for me. Starting with looking for vendors, I knew that I wanted a Chinese DJ/MC as I wanted both English and Mandarin at the wedding, even with songs. So, that narrowed the choices. Now with the people I contacted, Steven was the only one who said, hey, we really should talk on the phone. Now, being phone-shy, I was less inclined initially, but so glad that I took the jump. Steven dedicated a good hour on the phone just explaining to me the different packages, what differences there are between sound systems, light systems, etc. Being that the prices were pretty similar between all the vendors I looked at, I decided to go with Steven just for that extra initiative he took. The first meeting to set up the contract, pick the booking, Steven and May were willing to venture out to UES all the way from Flushing, which really spoke volumes to their dedication. They were very detail oriented and organized, and won us over. So we booked them. I also liked that they were flexible with their meeting times/places; with our schedule, it was hard for hubby and I to go all the way to Flushing or Chinatown, so it was great that we were able to meet for a few more times in UES. Steven and May really did jump start our wedding planning though. We were procrastinating on a lot of things, and we were also clueless on how to even start. The second meeting, Steven presented us with a wedding timeline on how the wedding day should go. That really helped us with the planning as well as with song suggestions. On the actual wedding day, we had a different MC/DJ (forgot their names, sorry!), but they were amazing. The MC also doubled as our officiant, and he gave us a beautiful ceremony. He was able to make the ceremony lighthearted but sweet, and just the right length, incorporating both English and Mandarin. During cocktail hour, they gave us an hour free of music, which was unexpected and a total pleasant surprise on the day of. :) For the reception, he really did set the energy high for our wedding. They even brought out glowsticks! All the guests had fun with the games that they did (a twist on the shoe game, which helped start the dancing). One word to describe Red Wedding - awesome! Steven and May were the DJ and MC for our wedding and they were consummate professionals from start to finish. I remembered them being funny, clear, and lively for my sister's wedding a few years before, so naturally, I reached out to them when planning my own wedding. They have a team of people who work for them too, but we specifically requested them, and I'm glad they were available for our wedding! Customer Service: Pretty top notch. Turnaround time for emails was always very quick and thorough. We set 3 meetings throughout the course of planning with them, which I appreciated because it shows that they're really doing their due diligence and giving us the attention we needed as customers. Towards the end, they worked with us to ensure the schedule met our venue as well as our own expectations. When our venue presented us with scheduling issues, they reassured us that they'd do their best to make things as smooth as possible so that we wouldn't have to worry about anything. Delivery: Steven was an awesome MC and was great with the Cantonese and English. He spoke very clearly throughout the reception and tried his best to get the crowd hyped. He also threw in small, funny remarks from time to time for giggles. You could tell he really cared about the quality of service he was providing. May also did a great job as the DJ; she paid attention to all of our song requests and you can tell she has a lot of experience with song selection and transitioning. However, there was a slight hiccup with my Maid of Honor about an issue with her playing a track from a USB she provided, but they resolved that problem. Price Point: they offer very competitive price points, and a variety of different lighting/sound packages. We also opted for their photo booth service which came with a photo book at the end of the night! They are now located on Bath Ave in Brooklyn, which was a little out of the way for us, but worth it for the level of service they provided! We loved how organized and professional they were. We're an interracial couple so it was important that they spoke Cantonese and English fluently. At the first meeting, they told us what they offered in detail. During each meeting after the first, they would come well-prepared and it was never a rush. During the wedding, we had 200+ guests, it was hectic (our family and friends are loud but Steven and May did their best to capture their attention. We communicated and met with a few MC/DJs before we finally decided to go with Red Wedding for our big fat Asian wedding at a Western venue. We wanted an MC/DJ who are bilingual (English/Chinese), able to provide officiant services for our ceremony, and if they were able to provide a decent photobooth service, that would be a big helpful plus. Red Wedding easily met all of our requests. They discussed their packages with us, all reasonably priced, and we went with their Diamond package. They also threw in setting up a projector to help display a photo slideshow. Steven and May were clear professionals, extremely sweet and friendly, organized and detail oriented. They set up a few meetings leading up to our big day to touch base and helped us shape an ideal timeline for the day's events. There were many spreadsheets going on, including ceremony music choice and must have dance songs. They literally went through the schedule hour by hour and brought up many points that I had not even thought of before. They reviewed without issue both the Chinese and English names of the immediate family members we needed to honor at the reception. And most importantly, they helped catch a huge oversight in our first dance song that we had missed and would've completely tripped up our practiced routine. They really worked with us every step of the way and provided solid tips. Day of, we unfortunately ran behind on our timeline but it was understandable due to the sheer number of guests that had to be settled down. Red Wedding's team was able to set up for the ceremony and then move into our reception area without any noticeable glitch. The sound system was excellent. The transitioning of music during the ceremony could have been smoother but overall, Steven provided us with an excellent bilingual ceremony, which was more than I expected (other MC/DJs I've spoken to didn't always provide this service or couldn't do bilingual). (Caveat: Steven did clarify beforehand that his officiant services would not be legally official because there have been cases of marriages by certain online ordained officiants not being accepted in all states as legal so rather than getting ordained himself, he recommends just making it 100% official in city hall. I appreciated the honesty and information.) During the reception, since we ran behind schedule, we unfortunately had to forgo the planned game section for more dancing time before the Viennese hour disrupted the dance floor. I had been looking forward to their described variation of the shoe game so that was unfortunate. However, Steven and May did their best to keep the crowd going, provided glow bracelets, and I heard most of my requested song list being played. The photobooth was excellent; the attendant was sweet and polite. Red Wedding had told us beforehand that they differed in that they were able to provide multiple copies of each print to each guest taking a group photo, not just the limited 1-2 copies. They provided a beautiful huge scrapbook for guests to leave messages next to copies of their photos. We had a blast flipping through the book - we noticed many guests went back multiple times. The DJ- May and Steven were wonderful to work with. I planned my wedding during covid they accommodated us while we postponed 2x. They communicated with us the whole time and were so great. Finally had my wedding a few days ago, and we worked with the MC James that we hired through them as well and he was horrible! He didn't listen to any of the instructions I sent him and I've been receiving negative feedback from my family and friends regarding how bad he was at the wedding! 1. Some of my guests were late and he didn't announce to the ones that were seated for ceremony that we are waiting for some folks to arrive. Those already seated waited for 40 mins at the ceremony site without any info regarding what was going on. 2. I had to do a tea ceremony and he told the venue to move the ceremony layout that my florist had set up WITHOUT my permission. 3. I told him that I was having my bridesmaids serve the tea at my tea ceremony and only wanted him to call ppl up, but he insisted on serving the tea and he collected all the tea ceremony red envelope tip money. Apparently all my guests sitting at the back said that nobody could hear him when he was calling people up to the altar. I paid James an extra $350 for the tea ceremony on top of what I added on for a MC package and then he collected about $200-300 in tips from my family. I didn't realize any of this until after the wedding, I tipped him another $100. He did not deserve the tips. My families are still upset about it. 4. He didn't speak up and announce the dinner menu options to my Chinese guests even though I left him instructions to do so. 5. I left to do an outfit change and he didn't tell my guests what was going on. Ppl Sat around wondering why I was gone. I've been getting nonstop complaints about the MC, it's so upsetting to me. I just want others to be aware. I didn't want to leave a review because May and Steven were sooo wonderful! They're the best Djs and they did an amazing job with the music, but Mc James ruined everyone's night. I've been getting complaints for three days and I'm so upset. Just warning those considering hiring red wedding- please do NOT use their MC. DJ- truly 5 stars !! Please hire May as a your DJ. She was great with combining English and Chinese music. Best part of our wedding (part Chinese / part English) is selecting Red Wedding as our MC/DJ! We just had our wedding in June and a lot of our guests complemented them! Steven (MC) and his team is very professional at what they do. They are very accommodating and he is extremely organized. He is constantly communicated with us via emails/txt msg to ensure everything is alright and remind us what is due/ what forms need to be finished etc. That's important because sometimes you lose track of things in the middle of planning your life's biggest event! We had our first meeting in January (5 months before our wedding) During this time, we went over some of his packages that they offer.. (how many hrs of MC, how many speakers, what kind of light effect, etc) We told him where we are getting marry and he gave us some suggestions on how many speakers would be good for that ground because he did weddings there before. His tone was never pushy. We ended up taking his recommendation (I just trusted him and boy was I glad! ) After selecting our package, we met again 2 months later to discuss the rundown: what events/activities are going to take place during the wedding day, (dancing? games? introduction? 1st dance, 2nd dance? etc) Then the 3rd meeting we finalized everything (what songs, what activities, what games etc) Steven had a very accommodating schedule when it comes to meeting up even though he is extremely busy during the weekdays with meeting clients and weekends with weddings. He listens to everything you have to say and is very respectful to any ideas you may bring to the table. All in all, I would recommend Steven and red wedding team to anyone who needs an MC/DJ for their wedding (especially if you need someone who can speak Cantonese and English fluently!) We booked their Photo Booth for our wedding on Halloween and it was amazing. Due to Covid, our wedding was rescheduled a few times and Red Wedding accommodated all the change in dates. We loved how organized they were from the original meeting to the end. All the guests loved their props and had a blast. When you first meet them, they go over services they offer along with pricing. They cater to your needs so you can pick and choose what you want. Steven and May played music for us during the ceremony and reception. We played several games during the party to keep the guests engaged. They were able to provide us with a projector so we can play a slideshow and they also provided us with the photobooth. There was a huge variety of fun props and they put together a scrapbook of prints for us which I will cherish! Steven and May have worked at my wedding venue previously and because of the location, they warned me of possible microphone interference. But they told me not to worry because they have backup mics. I really appreciated that bit of information because that's how you know they are experienced and that this business is their expertise. They were also very accommodating when it comes to meeting up during appointments. Manhattan was an easier location for us and they made it work with all our busy schedules involved. We had a lot of special requests such as providing some extra mic stands, helping us mix several songs for a dance, and on the very day of the wedding we decided to add some family introductions. So, it is time for that update I promised. My wedding is done, and it went well! I would definitely recommend Red Wedding to anyone who needs an MC/DJ service, Chinese or not! They were very sensitive about how I wanted to include Chinese people in my family, but not exclude the non-Chinese people. He was great at engaging the crowd. Most of the music choices were appropriate as well as just plain good (my sister informed me there was one retarded song that was sad and inappropriate, but at least it was only one). They listened when I said which songs I would like, and which songs we wanted on the NO PLAY list, though they didn't have time for my new Andy Lau favourite - I Don't Wanna Say Goodbye. He handled all our last minute concerns up to, well, the last minute! The one thing he forgot was that we had given him a huge family list two weeks before, and that we wanted to cut it down to immediate family. Other than that, he made the night go smoothly and everyone had fun. Some good advice: ask for MORE GLOWSTICKS! Kids will grab those suckers away, and some of your friends will end up without them. Glowsticks are more important than coloring books for kids. Ask for double the glowsticks! read more

We met with Steven and May several times before the wedding and they were also available through email. We met with William, our MC, the day of our wedding. He was very attentive & made sure you are on schedule from start to finish. He asked me if the mixture of English / Chinese was what we wanted, which i appreciated. He was very professional, and always updated us on what to expect next. Our DJ, May was awesome. We gave her a list of songs that we wanted to hear during the reception. She kept the music going and I was so happy that a lot of people were on the dance floor towards the end of the night! Red Weddings was definitely one of my favorite vendors for my wedding. Steve and May were so responsive, all the time, and accommodating. We didn't have any issues with them from the beginning to the end. We met about 3 times in person, and did email correspondence whenever I had a question. Steve is not just any business person, he puts his client's interest and needs first. We initially booked just two speakers for the entire hall, we stuck to this even though Steve told us at least 3 speakers would be needed (we had a large number of guests). In the week before the wedding, he called us and professionally explained to me that based on his experience, we really do need another speaker, to ensure all our guests can be accommodated in every corner of the restaurant. He rented the third speaker to us for a really good price. I'm so glad I listened at the end, because three speakers made a HUGE difference! I also have to THANK YOU for providing us with the BEST MC ever! The MC spoke good english, cantonese, and mandarin! He was young, hip and handsome and courteous, and yes he knew what he was doing all night long. We used Red Wedding for our wedding reception in September. We met with a few DJ/MC vendors before selecting Red Wedding. We actually signed with them during our first meeting, because out of all the DJ/MCs we met, May and Steven seemed to be very organized, well experienced, and professional. Red Wedding was very responsive when we had questions and were patient to help us select our receptions songs and program throughout our planning process (unlike some of our other vendors that did not offer the same level of responsive after payment was made). Steven and May were so awesome! They did a wonderful job on our wedding as DJ and helped so much with the organization of the wedding. They were professional, knew the Asian as well as the western cultures. They dressed sharp and were very respectful. We met several months in advance and kept in touch regarding wedding planning. My wedding planning is in full swing now, although I have already done some research months ago. Since my almost one year countdown has just begun, I figure I should start thinking about other things like a dj/emcee. Like all Chinese American weddings, there's always that extra effort to research a really good trilingual emcee (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin). I googled and viola, Red Weddings was the first to pop up. To be honest, I wasn't too sure about Red Weddings because their website looked a little pre-mature. I guess they are still working on it. But I e-mailed them anyway just to get pricing. They e-mailed me back promptly and wanted to set up an appointment with them in their Flushing office. I went and was surprised to learn it is a husband and wife team. Both Steven and May were genuinely nice to talk to. Steven walked me and my fiance through each of the packages they offer and I was glad that he wasn't pushing me for the more expensive package. Also, since I am having a daytime wedding at the Palmhouse, he suggested I probably don't need to the extra lighting effects and offered to replace that with extra upgraded speakers, which was very nice and considerate. They also offer photobooth/ station services too. After much consideration, I decided to go with Red Weddings. Given the face-to-face interaction with them and the Yelp reviews, my heart tells me they know what they are doing. Supposedly we will be having 3 meetings from now until the big day. Steve is fantastic and he does a fantastic job in setting up a great program to entertain your guests on your special day. He is easy to communicate with and he will meet where it is convenient for you. Our biggest challenge was to combine western and eastern culture, and with his guidance, his team delivered. It is no easy task to entertain in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. The highlights of the evening were the games, dancing, and the music. He will stick to your music requests! We just had our wedding and bride and groom both agreed that Red Weddings was hands down our favorite and best vendor. We wanted to have a DJ and MC that could blend Chinese and American styles as we were doing a Chinese banquet with many Cantonese family members but many of our guests were Caucasian. In a process where you never know which of your vendors are gonna be a liability, Steven and May were an asset from day one. Right from the first meeting, Steven and May made the process so easy for us. They were very professional and easy to work with. They always listened to our input and made great suggestions. They worked very hard to meet all of our requirements and customized a rundown of events that we were very happy with. In addition to the DJ/MC, Steven also helped guide us through the various bumps in the road that occur with when arranging a wedding (protocol of coordinating restaurants, lino dancers, decorators, etc.) where we were very unsure of what to do and gave us confidence that it would come together. On the big day, it all came together. We were very pleased with the end result and got many compliments about the MC and DJ from our friends and family. Our friends all had a really fun time and our family was very impressed how the MC blended Chinese with American traditions in a classy, yet still very fun and appropriate way. Red Wedding was recommended to us by a dear friend and we cannot tell you how happy we are with our decision to hire them to MC/DJ our wedding. We did some research and met with another popular MC/DJ group but Steven and May from Red Wedding really blew us away. Their customer service is superb. They listened intently to our vision for the big day and offered their services wherever they saw fit. We didn't meet our MC until the day of the wedding which was a bit nerve wrecking for me. But Steven and May really gave me the feeling that I was in good hands. The MC, William went above and beyond my expectations. He's a young guy that speaks perfect English. He speaks Cantonese, as well and a little bit of Mandarin. May was my DJ and they made a great team. Red Wedding has a wide variety of really creative games that I had never before seen. There were so many good ones I wish I could've picked more than 3. Our guests were really entertained! They met with us a few times to go over all the crazy details I had in mind. We ultimately hired them for their MC/DJ service and had an open photo booth. They supplied all the props (and they were some good props!). Even though Steven had another wedding to work that night, he came personally to make sure the camera was well adjusted for the photo booth. I was very impressed with Steven's transition from english to cantonese. Even my guests were impressed too! He spoke clearly and smoothly. His MC skill was amazing. May was our DJ and she carried out with all of our requests and executed it perfectly. She was really good! Everyone had a lot of fun and felt entertained. Both Steven & May make a great team. They are very easy to talk to and organized. They have numerous years of experience and made helpful suggestions to us regarding to timeline, games, and songs to play. Had my wedding the last past week. Steven did an excellent job in preparing for the schedule and really professional. I would not look back and recommend this company. Music is great, i gave them a list of songs to play and later in the party- everything was smooth. I cannot say again, what a great company. Weddings are hard to plan especially with a venue like the hilton. Steven has experience and a company that most venues accept due to the professionalism and insurance coverages. We wanted an mc who can speak Cantonese as well as English and found Red Wedding when I searched online. Steven and his staff was very accommodating an easy to work with. His staff was dress appropriately for the occasion with black suit and ties for the men and a black dress for the lady. They didn't hand out their business cards during my wedding, which I have seen many DJ/MC companies do! They covered all the specific requests I had made for the day of my wedding. I rarely write reviews but I thought it was important for me to do so because I found Steven and May based off of other yelper's reviews and I know wedding planning is very stressful. My big day was on 6/28/14 and my family only speaks Cantonese but my fiancé's family along with all our friends and coworkers only speak English. I met with Steven once and that was it, I did not interview other DJs/MCs I booked him for our big day close to a year ago. As it was getting closer to my wedding day I've seen some horrible bi-lingual MCs and it could really ruin a wedding. My friends were also warning me about all the chaos and disorganization they've experienced. I didn't realize how organized Steven and May were until I heard all these horror stories and I sat there and thought wow, Steven already met with us and helped us develop a rundown of events, suggested items and explained to us what usually works and what doesn't. He gave us work sheets to keep us rolling and prepared. I also booked the photo booth through Steven and when I asked him to change the print style he took the time to make it happen. Fast forward to my wedding day, Steven took care of everything!!! He spoke to my parents to confirm the family run down, he had the maître d work with him for the events of the night, I didn't worry about anything, I just had to show up. Our wedding reception at Jing Fong was a BLAST, thanks to May and Steven of Red Wedding! I'm so happy that we made the decision to go with them as our DJ and MC for one of the most important days of our lives. On the day of, Steven did an amazing job as MC/ coordinator - he guided us through our program with a fun attitude and an easy-going energy that immediately put the guests at ease. May put together a fantastic music mix that transitioned well from cocktail hour to tea ceremony to the reception dinner. She played all of our chosen songs on cue for the grand entrance, first dance and cake cutting, and helped serve the tea during the tea ceremony so that it all happened seamlessly. During our reception, our guests couldn't stop dancing, thanks to her party-starting mix. In our prep meetings, they were quite organized (with worksheets for us to fill out, and detailed notes on our preferences)... but more importantly, they were extremely good at listening to our needs to custom-make our program. I made a special request to start our wedding program earlier than Jing Fong normally allows private evening parties to begin. Since there would be another large party in the restaurant later on in the night, I wanted to get our party going early so that guests would already be in the flow of things by the time the other party began. Red Wedding made it happen for us - I'm so grateful that they were willing to work with Jing Fong to prep the space in time for our earlier-than-usual start. In the end, our guests danced til the restaurant closed out and there were smiles and laughter all around throughout the evening.
