I went twice this summer for brunch with a group of people and both times we had an awkward customer experience. Ordered 2 spicy Bloody Mary's and when the bill came it was $8 (price listed on menu) + $3 for each. The server seemed new so I let it slide and didn't say anything. Went back a month later and the same thing happened. We asked the server and she seemed confused and then said that's just the way their system works. So I guess they just automatically add $3 when you order a Bloody Mary??? Then....we had been there for about 1 hour and 20 mins, had finished our food, and were finishing our drinks when the manager walks up and asked us if we could finish shortly because they needed our table. The restaurant was half full. Table next to us was empty. It was super awkward and very unprofessional. I've never had that happen before. My first visit to Red Stu was not a positive experience unfortunately. Our server was "Sasha". Wait time for food was long ~ Once food was delivered she left, no check backs happened, sadly. I was going to ask for hot sauce because the condiments on our table were empty, she only returned when I asked another server to send her over after my Breakfast was served COLD, she apologized and said I can have it remade for you, which at this point ALOT of time had already passed and my party I was with, had already had finished eating. So I said "no thank you", she then offered to microwave it. Which I had been served by her, over easy cold eggs, cold meat and cold potatoes, but I said "sure, but it's gonna ruin my eggs", but whatever :( she didn't acknowledge that... For me, I didn't want a discount or a free meal, I just wanted her to acknowledge her mistakes. In my opinion, Cold food is not a cooks mistake it's a servers neglect issue. People accept mistakes when the person making them accepts responsibility for the problem and can quick rectify the issue and make the customer feel heard and happy. I did notice all the other servers were checking back with every other person they were serving just a couple of minutes after the food was delivered. In fact, another server set someone's food down and announced "it's on the house" ~ Not Sasha, I overheard her, over and over she was apologizing to all her tables repeatedly for messing up the food, not being present. When she brought back my microwaved plate, we asked her for to go boxes for the other party, as previously stated they had been done eating for a long time. However, she never returned, never checked back or nothing, zero attention. We grabbed another server for to go boxes paid our bills and left. Sadly the only way to find out why people never return to a business is by surveys or reviews. We can't get better unless someone speaks up. In my business, being a retail store manager, I've found most people silently disappear and never return unless you take your survey s seriously and ask questions to correct mistakes and take responsibility for errors. Took the prior recommendations and had breakfast at Red Stu's while visiting Bemidji. There was plenty of on-street parking on Saturday morning at 10am. We ordered the Migas, the Koosie, and a salted caramel roll. The Migas comes with pulled pork, avocado, black beans, cheese, eggs, pico de gallo, sour cream, and cilantro over flour tortilla chips and the Koosie was biscuits loaded up with sausage gravy, two eggs, bacon, cheese and paprika. Unfortunately my dish came without the requisite pulled pork, but they were pretty quick about fixing it. Everything was good - the star of the show was definitely the cinnamon roll though. If I got a do-over I would skip the Migas and have a cinnabar roll all for myself (we shared). Friendly staff, good food, and worth a try if you are in the area Saturday or Sunday morning. read more

Does this look like biscuits and gravy to you? It doesn't to me either. I ordered the biscuit and sausage gravy. It comes with 2 eggs made to order. This was what I received. It was essentially a large biscuit with cream of chicken soup poured over the top of it and some cheddar cheese and bacon bits sprinkled on top. The "gravy" was souplike and there wasn't a speck of sausage in sight. My coffee was served lukewarm. The eggs were great, cooked exactly the way I like them. The waitstaff were very nice and personable, but the food was a disappointment. My son always considers going to the Red Stu to be a special treat, because it is the most expensive breakfast place in town. He was very happy with his peanut butter and banana waffles, so that is good. But to screw up something as basic as biscuits and gravy? We didn't have a reservation but we were assured to be seated shortly. The gals were so nice and quickly seated our group of five. We'd had coffee which was filled as often as we asked. I chose biscuits and gravy and there were a variety of other dishes chosen. Mine was okay mainly because the biscuit to gravy ratio was way off. The biscuit had the flavor or batter of a scone so not that off putting but not correct. Most people in our group got cold food and the waitress kindly brought it back. The decor and ambiance are super fun and modern. We didn't care for the giant cinnamon rolls. My husband and I wanted to try this new restaurant downtown next to the new 209. Hubby ordered the Brother Rodney. He liked it very much. I tried a bite, even though it has corned beef and cabbage (neither of which I like). It was very flavorful, and dare I say, enjoyable! I couldn't decide between a sweet dish or savory dish, so I ordered the chocolate and gouda sandwich. The concept sounded really good. The sandwich, however, was lacking. The cheese to chocolate ratio is not balanced. The bread for this particular sandwich is quite thick, and the cheese gets lost between that and the chocolate. To make this sandwich better, I would recommend a lighter, possibly thinner bread, more cheese, and possibly hazelnut chocolate. According to my husband, the coffee has a very nice flavor and nice aroma. The atmosphere is wonderful, staff was very friendly, and the other patrons seem to be enjoying their food as well. We will definitely be back, I will just have to chose more wisely next time. read more

Had a great experience being our first time, Hannah was our server and she was fantastic! Polite, efficient, and personable. There was a mix up that caused a delay in our food, but honestly we were not even waiting that long and the manager personally apologize and provided their cinnamon bun (which is to die for) as an accommodation. The hot chocolate that was recommended by our server was also amazing! The reason for the mix up was not even their fault, their computer system couldn't differentiate between the tables inside or outside that they had set up to follow COVID safety precautions. Wow. Where do I start? I've been traveling to Bemidji every month for more than 2 years and have been here several times. It has always been a decent experience. Nothing stellar, but good enough to come back; good service, good food. But not this last time, which was yesterday (Sat). I came in towards the end of their service and I expected to have to wait to be seated. Fortunately, there was seating at the bar, I sat right down, and was waited upon nearly immediately. The first strike was when I ordered a mimosa and was told they were out of orange juice. Out of orange juice? On a Saturday morning? How bout you send someone over to the supermarket? I ordered it with pineapple juice and it was ok. I also knew exactly what I wanted and ordered the Ripper Omelet since I was in a time crunch to get to my next appt. I ordered bacon as my side and specifically asked that it be extra crispy. Waitress smiled and said "That will not be a problem at all." Relaxed and enjoyed my coffee and mimosa while waiting. And waiting. And waiting. That was the second strike. Finally, after 33 minutes I flagged down my waitress and asked if she had forgotten about me. I had seen literally dozens of plates come out of the kitchen since I placed my order. Now, during this 33 minutes, she did not once check on me - my mimosa and coffee glasses were empty. She replied "There's some problem in the kitchen. I'm not sure what it is." Ten minutes later a different waitress drops a plate in front of me. The slices of avocado on the omelet were more brown than green, the hash browns were warm, but not browned at all, and the bacon was about 10 degrees north of raw (strike 3). I told the waitress, "I specifically asked for crispy bacon. Please take this back." I ate what appeared to be the edible parts of the meal in the next 10-15 min. No, I never did see that bacon that I did end up paying for. I know, I could have said something, but at this point it was very difficult to get the attention of any of the waitresses, and the service was so slow I would not have been able to get to my appt on time. Lesson learned. I won't be coming here again. Good luck to you if you decide to try it. read more
