Stopped in for dinner while on vacation. We ordered the Breakfast Tot Scramble w/french toast, the Mr. Chippy, an adult and a child salad bar. There were a lot of options on the salad bar. Veggies were fresh, and the chili was warm and tasty. The pancake and French toast were both really good. The scramble was excellent. We had terrific service, would definitely go back. read more

EVERYTHING was painful at this restaurant, from the indifferent and long seating process, to getting our order taken, to the almost hour wait for the very average food, to the wait for the bill and paying at the counter. I never write reviews for great restaurants and now is not the time to start. I'm visiting Bemidji and going on a tour of breakfast joints in town. From the time I entered the restaurant to the time I left the restaurant, it took 1 hour and 50 minutes including 10 minutes waiting for a table. My server Johnathan took over 20 minutes to greet me and collect my order. When I ordered an iced coffee, he seemed hesitant and said he didn't know how to make it. That coffee took another 30 minutes to arrive at my table. From the time I sat at my table until my food arrived was about 1 hour 30 minutes. I had no silverware and had to request it after a few moments where the server was in the kitchen after hurriedly rushing away from my table after dropping the food off. The food was cold when he dropped it off. If I had requested a refire, I likely would have been here another hour at least. Tables that arrived significantly later than me were served ahead of me and were checking out up front before i even had food. Johnathan never came to check on me and left the check after I was complete. Then the line at the checkout was 5 minutes because a split check was paid incorrectly ahead of me. Overall, the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I don't know the last time I spent 2 hours at any restaurant, let alone a diner restaurant such as Country Kitchen. I would not recommend to anyone visiting. I'd rather go to Perkins over Country Kitchen in Bemidji any day of the week. read more

It is quite a savvy place mate. I prefer the breakfast there, it's quite right for a bloke. Oy, and the service is quite exceptional with Kendra. I will visit again for a pint with me lads. read more

We were here fairly early on a Saturday morning, and they weren't very busy yet. We were seated quickly and got our coffee in a very timely manner. Our waiter was accommodating and offered choices. There were four of us all drinking coffee, so he brought us our own coffee pot. We all felt the food was very good and well cooked. I like eggs over medium, and frequently I get a range from barely cooked to over done. My eggs were perfectly cooked over medium. Everyone enjoyed their meal and had plenty to eat. The service was excellent, and we were very pleased with the whole experience. read more

This place has a great selection of food. They serve breakfast and dinner all day. Super friendly staff. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Each of the kids got their own kids menu with free crayons and snack size teddy Graham. Definitely family friendly atmosphere. Also, mini games to keep entertained at the table. We ordered a little of everything. All the dish we ordered tasted good. Ribs smoked perfectly. Hubby's steak was cooked perfectly. My son's steak was a bit on cooked side but that did not bother him. My turkey dinner hitted the spot. I told my hubby, We might have to go back for a second round. I would definitely recommend this place if your in Bemidj! read more

We seen at least 2 employees waiting for guests to seat them. A couple walks in "caucasian" and the C.K. employees jump up and take them to a table right away. We wait some more. More "caucasian"people come in the door and the employees come right up to them and seat them. We're dark skinned people. We've eaten here in the past. We were a party of six. I ordered a large order of chicken and a lady with us order the smaller senior citizen order which was smaller. She got my larger order with her vegetables and I got her small order with my side. Then they had the gall to charge the full price for my meal. As usual I took the kids to breakfast, country kitchen is their favorite until today. The portions were 1/2 of what we usually receive, eggs and pancakes were the most noticeable. Two eggs scrambled was less then one and the side of pancakes looked like they were off the kids menu. Needless to say, they want to try a different "breakfast spot" next time. read more

Stopped in last weekend while visiting in Bemidji. The place was packed! Yet the whole staff was very organized, service was extremely friendly and very quick. LOVE the menu at Country Kitchen. It's loaded with pictures so you know what you're getting and makes Perkin's menu look blah and boring. I ordered the Chicken Cordon bleu breakfast scrambler and it was super tasty. And they had very clean bathrooms too! Overall, great food, service and clean bathrooms. Plus, you'll like this menu. This is a very good Country Kitchen! Wish there were more of them. read more

Decent food. Nothing special but the specialty coffees were really good. A little confusion over our sons food allergy. One waitress seemed things would be fine and then another said no guarantees on cross contamination. The bathrooms were clean but old. Hardly any water pressure so difficult to wash hands. I went here with some friends and kids, each kids menu came with crayons and Teddy Grahms (that was great in my single dad book) the main menu was a bit cluttered but it was good. I ordered a burger that was good. Before I left I went to the mens room to change my sons diaper and there was a changing table and it HAD the changing table paper liners (this is only the second time in 4 years I have actually seen the little bin filled, OMG!!!) My sister and I have come into this restaurant so many times and have NEVER been told to put on a mask, or pay for one. This is a chain of restaurants similar to Denny's that has fallen out of favor. Because there are so few of them now each of them is kind of an island and experiences can vary widely. This Country Kitchen is pretty good. They do everything a breakfast diner should. They are famous for their skillets, but I try to stay clear of them and eat more standard breakfast items such as Eggs Benedict. Whichever breakfast item you choose, you can be assured that they will come out first rate. read more

The first place I've eaten out at in Bemidji for awhile. I went at 1am with my friend to visit her BF that was working. So she has a bias to go there. I thought it was ok. It was clean, and the service was good. The waiter checked on the brand of honey mustard right away. All I ordered where fries, but they were very delicious.The menu wasn't that special, but it'll due. I wasn't impressed, but it wasn't bad. I stop here every single time when driving back and forth between Duluth and Grand Forks. The service is wonderful-- everyone is polite and we get our food very quickly. Though I generally expect the food to taste average at restaurants like this, on more than one occasion I found the food to taste way better than I expected. When ordering food who cares if you share it, it gets paid for in the long run. My table today we otdered 2 all you can eat salad bars and a skillet meal, we were all sharing with each other, we were charged for another salad bar. We were told point blank that country kitchen does not allow people to share food, I can see that point if I had ordered nothing and just blatantly picked off other people's plates. I have been a satisfied customer of Country Kitchen, Bemidji for over 20 years. However, the new ownership is having trouble keeping the standard set by the previous ownership. In the past 3 weeks, we have twice visited for biscuits and gravy. Huge disappointment both times. Sausage was not crumbled into the gravy, instead it was a sausage patty that was fried til black and then broken into large chunks and scattered over the top of the gravy. Today the gravy was crusty and cool on top of two biscuits. We sent it back and the server returned about a minute later explaining that she had put it in the microwave "Again". The biscuits were hard and only half was edible, due to being microwaved twice. My soup and salad were precariously served with the watery clam chowder sloshing about in the large bowl. It was luke warm. I told the server, who was not very responsive. My salad was dished up by the server at the salad bar. We watched as she scooped lettuce, 1 tomato slice and two slivers of onion onto the plate. No croutons, nothing to make it attractive. I have served in restaurants for many years, so I really didn't want to write this. I know how hard the business is. BUT the owner was unavailable, there was no manager present. Loud noise, loud male conversation from the kitchen, and lack of server guidance seemed to dominate the atmosphere. There are so many competing restaurants nearby. It will be easy to take my dining dollars elsewhere. read more

We visited Bemidji the weekend of 5-4-18 and wasn't sure where to eat at. Friday we saw the walleye advertised on their sign and decided to give it a try. WOW!!! She had baked potato, I had fries and we both had broccoli. Very nice sized portions along with a HUGE piece of walleye and a very good salad bar for 13.99! We were so impressed, we went back Sunday for a tasty breakfast. Very clean, reasonable prices and good service you can't go wrong! read more

if I could give a lower ratings I would. which is really sad because this was my favorite restaurant. we always got good service and all of their food was awesome. until today, not very many customers or I might be more forgiven. Sat for more than 1/2 hr to have waitress come back and finally went and asked to have our order taken. the man who told us she will be right after another 10 minutes we gave up and asked for the bill for our drinks. I have eaten here several times instead of going to other similar style places like Perkins. Good food, but a little pricey. The service is always friendly and the kitchen is usually quick to get orders out. A nice place for a good, quite meal with the family. I do wish they had later hours. read more

The food is decent, I've had their burgers and other menu items before at this location, this time I had the meat lovers omelet, it was good; I did order it with hollandaise sauce on the omelet and hash browns, which turned out to be a mistake. The sauce was cheddar cheese yellow and basically tasteless. Our server was attentive (service can be hit or miss here) and our food arrived in a very timely manner. My basis for comparison for Country Kitchens is the one in Brainerd/Baxter, which is considerably better, but overall, the Bemidji Country Kitchen is good. The one thing that completely turned me off on this visit to the Bemidji Country Kitchen, was the experience with the hostess. She was carrying around with her while working in this restaurant, her baby. Last thing I want to deal with is someone's diaper shitter while I'm being waited on. She was also serving drinks with this drooling germ factory in her arm. She ran the cash register while holding it; I have since wiped my card down with isopropyl alcohol. This is a place of business serving food to the public. Babies are far from sanitary and the hostess isn't washing her hands before serving someone, if she's carrying the baby with her. It was also set down on the counter people eat at. If she's keeping it at work with her, that means she's also changing it's diaper at work, then putting it's ass where people eat. And how safe is it for the diaper shitter? She's serving coffee... That is enough to keep me away from the place; I have also reported this to the Minnesota Department of Health. read more

Decided to take my father there for breakfast when I traveled home since we had not been there in years, thought it would be a good time since I had memories from back when. HUGE mistake. The waitress this morning was actually one of the worst I have ever encountered. She barely pointed out a booth around the right corner from the entrance, tossed the menus at the edge of the table, and before we could take a seat, she was already gone (all the way to the counter seating area visiting) and when both my father and I looked at her walking away she said loudly, "Do ya' want somethin' to drink?" with a look that relayed the message that she was totally annoyed we were there. I was so shocked at her lack of customer service and rudeness, I barely got the words "coffee please" out of my mouth. My father and I sat down and looked at each other with disbelief. She brought coffee and waters and just set the cups/glasses in a group at the end of the table in one little heap and immediately left! I was going to ask for creamer but didn't even get a chance; had no idea she would just plop it all down at the edge of the table and walk away. She was laughing and talking to some guy for quite a while, so I finally had to get up and go ask for creamer. Her reply? "Didn't hear ya' ask for it before!" Oh..my... gosh. When she took our order, her mannerisms were just as rude. The minute I began to get the word "eggs" out of my mouth, for the eggs, toast and hashbrowns, she barked off, "How ya' want em?" When I chose toast from her choices that all ran together again so rudely and fast (englishmuffintoastpancake) she looked at me with disgust and said, "what kind?!" I asked, "what kind do you have?" She rambled off again as fast as she could and just as rude in her manner and with the same look of "I really don't care" that we encountered from the moment we walked in. It was clear she didn't give a sh*t if we were there or not. I was thinking that all we did was walk into this establishment to give them our business, to have a nice breakfast with my father, and felt like we stepped into hell. Was it busy? No...there was a group of 4-5 older gentlemen already finished and just visiting, a couple people on the other side, and after we arrived, her two male buddies behind us...oh and one elderly gentleman at the counter. It was NOT busy, and frankly she was not running around as if it was either, she was visiting. Crazy how we walked in hoping for a great new memory, reminders of times there years ago, and she ruined the whole damn thing from beginning to end by being unwelcoming, rude, and absolutely zero customer service, The food? Although my meal was edible, it was the thinnest film of hard as a rock hashbrowns I have been served and the toast was cold and hard...think it was not made with fresh bread. As far as my father's biscuits and gravy, his favorite breakfast food? It was pathetic to look at from the get-go and when I asked how it was, he said the worst and tasteless that he has had. It was a gross pale looking floury thick mess on his plate with a few morsels (small tiny pieces) of burnt crumbled sausage on top of the biscuit. From now on we will go where they not only are happy to see customers, friendly and welcoming and even hospitable (imagine that!) but take the time to greet a person and know how to wait on them, and we will share a meal worth paying for as well. I was disgusted that my father left her a tip, I waited tables for years when I was younger and you should earn those damn tips...they are not a "given" but he was raised to tip, and at that point I wasn't going to argue with him...we both wanted out of there. What a pathetic experience and how sad that this is what the Country Kitchen has turned into in Bemidji. We'll take the local truck stops (great food and service!) and the downtown eateries for our breakfasts together when I travel to town, which is what we usually do and have ALWAYS been more than pleased and thankful. Frankly, we have even been to Perkins for breakfast a few times as well with family members and their wait staff have manners, do an excellent job serving the public and their food is good in both appearance, taste and portions; and get this, they even put sausage into their sausage gravy and biscuits and yes, it is pretty damn good. What's up Country Kitchen?? This is long but it doesn't NEARLY state how completely disgusting this whole experience was. By the way, she was not young so it was not as if "she didn't know better and just needs more training." The young gal that rang us up at the register when we left? SHE had more manners and customer service in her pinky finger than that "waitress" we were cursed with had in her whole being. read more

The sign out front drew us in. "50 item Salad Bar" After seeing the salad bar in person, eh, it was just okay. They did have a lot of items, and everything tasted fresh. The only thing on the Salad Bar that didn't look appetizing was the fish that was on the salad bar. I ordered the Mushroom and Blue Cheese sirloin steak. to my amazement it was cooked perfectly, however there were no mushrooms. The steak was a little tough, but still good. The mashed potatoes were obviously not fresh, and my buddy ordered a chicken fried steak that looked like it was bought frozen from their supplier and warmed up in the oven. This has got to be the worst meal I have ever had. We stopped because the sign was advertising walleye night. But because we are over 55 we ordered from the senior menu. You want better food for the price go to Perkins, this place is unorganized and the waitresses and waiters are not very good, also they tend to have an attitude like they're always right. Also the tables all have Tabasco instead of ketchup, so if the waiter/waitress forgets to bring it with your food expect to wait 5 mins for it while your food gets cold. I know this place is a chain and because of that there services should be better! I've eaten here a lot but you can only have so many chances, goodbye country kitchen! read more
