We walked in at 7:15pm to find 6 other tables without food, 2 servers (1 was doing all the work) and 3 people in the kitchen prepping food. It took 7 minutes to bring us menus and take our drink order. When the drinks finally came 5 minutes later, it was short the request of lemons. Then it took another 12 minutes to take our order of which we were informed that they were out of the "some" food and did not have the daily special today. We ordered what we always get: Crispy Chicken House Salad with extra Ranch and Biscuits N Gravy with Bacon and 2 fried egg whites. At the top of the hour our food came to the table and much to my surprise, the huge biscuits that the red star used to have have been replaced with ping-pong ball sized biscuits..... cut in half and served with water gravy, not creamed gravy, and three very burnt pieces of bacon, not crispy, but burnt. And of course, the egg whites which were fine. When I attempted to cut the biscuits with a fork knife, you could not cut through them because they were old and stale and not heated at all. I told the waitress that I couldn't even cut my biscuits and that they were old she took my plate and had them remake my meal. So while my beloved ate his food, I was waiting for mine. When my second plate came, it had three biscuits cut in half way more gravy egg whites were great bacon was undercooked. And I sent it back to be cooked to crispy not burnt. When I cut into the biscuits, this time, half of them were edible. The others were still old and stale and uncuttable. The gravy was not your grandma's gravy like it used to be and the flavor didn't even resemble gravy. As for my beloved salad, he said that the ranch dressing was not their normal ranch dressing. It was watered down and sweet like they had used miracle whip. And they did not bring his breakfast burrito to go. The waitress completely forgot to place that order. I don't know what has happened to the Red Star, this used to be our favorite place to eat when we came to town. Wondering if ownership or management has changed? Ive been going here for years and I've never had a problem really with the service until today. It was slow not busy at all, I asked the server for the special which is 9.99 and comes with a drink an entree with one side and a dessert. Me and my boyfriend both ordered that so it should've came to about 20-23$. Tell me why even though I asked her MULTIPLE times if it was part of the special, because 1) she said "it comes with two sides" 2) asked if I wanted on or two scoops of ice cream and 3) I told her the food item was too big to be the special and she COMFIRMED it was, I was charged FOURTY NINE DOLLARS?!?! Are you kidding me? She charged us for the regular meal which is 15.99 a piece plus our drinks plus desserts. And when I asked the manager for a refund she said the best she can do is 10% off because we already ate it. YEAH I ATE THE FOOD I ASKED FOR! THE SPECIAL! YOUR WAITRESS CONFIRMED IT WAS THE SPECIAL I ORDERED FROM THE LITTLE MENU! Why should I be charged for HER mistake? You obviously don't care about your regular customers if you're only gonna offer 10% off a 49$ meal that should've been 25$. Some of us are on a budget and have Little money to go out to eat with and you guys charge us like this? VERY disappointed will not be back for a while which sucks because I usually like this place. Just know if y'all go here you have to either speak very slowly for a couple of them to understand you want the special or put the small menu in their face to show them because even if you have your menu closed and you're point at the small menu some of them will still act like they didn't see, and they to blame you so they don't get in trouble. read more

Just as the prior reviews stated this is a great restaurant. My husband and I both had chicken fried chicken with fried okra. Delicious! The side salad and Mac and cheese were very tasty. Service is very good. My only comment is the restaurant is loud but I was too busy eating to care. I regret I did not get a piece of cake. They all looked filled with moist and gooey goodness. The food is out of this world! It was really great! I love that they let me bring my little dog in and the service was so friendly! Just a small little suggestion. Red Star Cafe 2.0 continues to shine! Red Star used to be a hole in the wall cafe next to a dumpy gas station. Well, they tore it all down and put in a brand new travel center with Red Star as the restaurant. The old cafe gave us the wonderful food we all expected, and the new cafe continues that excellence. The new dining room is quite a bit smaller, but we only had to wait about 5 minutes. Glenda got breakfast for lunch and I got the Texas cheesesteak with jalapeños. Score! The sandwich was fantastic. The hogie roll was so soft, and the meat and grilled veggies were so good. The fries were different, being very thin but very wide. They were cooked to the perfect crispy and were delicious. The three cakes on the bar enticed us, especially the Italian cream cake, my favorite! But sad to say, my waistline said we will pass this time. The new Red Star Cafe passes with flying colors. I was looking for a place to eat breakfast in Eastland and Red Star Cafe didn't even show up on yelp but it should be flashing anytime you get within 15 miles of this place. Located right off I-20 in the Ranger Truck Stop it's a diamond in the rough. Doesn't really stand out from the crowd but it's very clean and pleasant inside and out. The service was top notch and my server, Reilly, checked on me several times and I received just what I wanted and ordered. As you tell from the pictures my pancake was so large I had to cut it in half to get it on the plate. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only negative was that the coffee was not as strong as I would have liked. But as my wife is fond of saying "champagne problems ". Give the Red Star Cafe a try for breakfast. read more

What a hidden gem! Stopped here to fill up with gas and saw this restaurant connected to the gas station. The restaurant is so clean and new and fresh! The food was outstanding! I placed a to go order, the cheese burger with jalapeno bread! Buttery and soft, fresh veggies, huge burger. Perfrctly seasoned. The fries are like onion blossom but potato skins. You will see on the counter these homemade cakes on display! I got the Italian cream cheese, the best I have ever had! The icing was perfect, not too sweet and moist! My family & I were traveling on I20 going through Eastland. Saw this cafe & my son, daughter in law & I decided to stop & eat. We've never been here before. The Ambiance was nice, the service staff was friendly. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with fries, my other family members gave their orders. My son ordered cheese sticks for a appetizer. The cheese inside wasn't melted. He ordered a cheese burger & chips with extra mustard. The waitress then proceeds to tell me that they're out of french fries. So all I had was the bacon cheese burger with no side, yet I was still charged for the fries too. The food is not that good. I will not go back. I do not recommend this place to eat. read more
