One of the best restaurants near Poipu Beach with excellent food and service! We stayed at Ko'a Kea and dined here 3x during our 5 night stay to try their brunch, sushi bar, and dinner service. Dinner here on our first night in Kauai was wonderful, but expensive. It was about $262 before tip for drinks, a starter, and 2 entrees for two people. We loved the mai-tais as well as all of the dishes we ordered: Sticky Ribs appetizer (5/5) tender with good BBQ sauce Crab Crusted Monchong (4.5/5) for the price, I wish this had more veggies/sides Seared Ahi Steak (5/5) For brunch, I dined solo with a lovely view. It was not busy, and my server was so friendly and helpful. I got the Loco Moco, which was comforting and delicious! Our final meal here was at the Sushi Bar. We appreciated how quickly we were able to order and get our food. The rolls were satisfying, with fresh fish. The Black & White roll was a standout. Definitely recommend dining here, especially if you're staying at Ko'a Kea or nearby.

yummy waffle with banana, strawberry , blueberries, chocolate chips ( that partially melted ) and chopped macadamia nuts! Sooooo good.

The food and service are top notch. My husband and I cook at home so we have become quite picky about dining out and whether it's worth it. Well, we ate at Red Salt back to back nights and twice for breakfast so that should tell you something. Our first dining experience was an in restaurant dinner and I almost didn't give 5 stars is because the dining room itself could use a nice interior designer to help match the ambiance to the high quality food and service. The server was terrific and accommodating. I had a non traditional meal choice - scallop appetizer and bisque soup- and she smartly offered to add an additional scallop since I was making the dish my meal which I appreciated especially because the scallops were exquisite! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Just delightful and the bisque was also delicious. Now my husband's meal , the braised short rib osso bucco style was truly amazing! the meat basically fell off the bone and was perfectly paired with the mushrooms and puréed potatoes. I don't want to overlook the starters that set our expectations- delicious delicate pear salad and the spicy hamachi crudo with just the right amount of kick! And even though we were stuffed, we couldn't pass the dessert - flourless chocolate cake and affogato! Both chef's kisses! we loved that meal so much we ordered a condensed version of it for room servide the next night. As for breakfast, I think what we liked was that they did a great job on the classics. My husband had a traditional eggs and bacon with potatoes and I had the waffles and both were a solid 8-9. Again great service. I would say the price for breakfast is pretty spot on for the ambiance, food quality and service. I feel that the dinner entrees which while excellent, feels a bit steep $50-70 for the ambiance but as you can tell by our back to back meals, we still went back for more because none of the other restaurants we ate at on the island came close to the quality. If you get a chance, definitely reserve one night to dine here. you won't regret it. :)

Very disappointing experience overall. We made a reservation two months in advance because it was my wife's birthday, and we specifically requested a table with a view. Instead, we were seated near the entrance with a view of the wall. On top of that, the table was unstable and kept wobbling from side to side. We ordered sparkling water with lime. The lime was so dry and hard that we could barely squeeze out a few drops of juice. As for the food, we ordered the Herbed Focaccia. It was not fresh at all - it tasted like it had been sitting for at least three days, so we didn't eat it. The homemade ricotta was decent. We also ordered the Madagascar Vanilla Bean Seared Mahi Mahi, which came with black rice. The rice was cold. The Seared Ahi Steak was also disappointing. I understand that ahi is supposed to be raw inside, but it should still be properly seared on the outside. Instead, the inside was cold, as if it had just come straight from the refrigerator. In the end, we paid around $250 for a dinner that was extremely disappointing. The food and service were both very poor. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Great place to have an elevated dining experience. We had breakfast every morning at Red Salt and most times Becca was our server. She is extremely pleasant and attentive. We did dine once for dinner and the food was delicious!

Of all of the restaurants in which we ate, this was by far the best. We were given a table overlooking the pool. I started my meal with one of their zero proof drinks. I chose the Lie-Tai which was very good. Then my husband and I split a Little Gem Caesar. It was a nice size salad and plenty for the two of us. We both had the seared ahi steak. Although, I usually don't enjoy wasabi, this was incorporated as a topping and was not overwhelming. For the occasion of my birthday, the restaurant honored me with a Lucious chocolate chip cookie with edible flowers on top. We had a wonderful meal in a nice atmosphere. The waiter was pleasant, helpful and kind. It all added up to a nice time.

This review is in reference to NYE I think the staff and manager handled being extremely busy incredibly well. We had a reservation but about 15 to 30 minutes in decided to sit at the bar and about an hour later the hostess came up to us and asked if we'd like to be seated at our table--we were happy to give our table away to help alleviate the long wait for others and continued enjoying our meals. My boyfriend's meal was definitely better than mine--I got what I would describe as a surf and turf pho, but it was still delicious. Overall given the circumstances, it was still a great meal and we had an amazing time at red salt and would definitely come back!

Breakfast was yummy. The Lemon Pineapple Souffle Pancakes are worth the wait. And their dinner was insane! Chef Kenny is talented! The Housemade Ricotta was flavorful and a great start to the meal while enjoying their tasty Kaimana Mai Tai. Our entrées were Blue-Crab Crusted Ahi, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Seared Opah, and the Hoisin Braised Short Ribs. All dishes were so flavorful, with both fish cooked to perfection and the short ribs so tender. The Passion Fruit Crème Brulé was very passion fruity. I can't wait to come back.

We have come here two times now (2024 and 2026) and, while the food is decent here, my memory of it in 2024 exceeded our recent experience. We ordered a (non-alcoholic) pineapple fizz, grilled pear salad, the house made ricotta (with Kauai Nectar Farms Honeycomb, Bee Pollen, Local Red Salt, Truffle Oil, Micro Herbs, & Grilled Naan), the crab crusted lobster tail, the crispy game hen, and the soufflé cheesecake. The pear salad was terrific; all of the ingredients tasted fresh and it was well balanced. The ricotta was just "okay" but mainly because I'm not a huge truffle oil fan and also because they asked us if we wanted more pita and we said "yes" but they neglected to tell us it was an extra charge. The lobster tail was average. So many places in Poipu have "lobster with dynamite sauce" and we had had better on our trip. The crispy game hen was actually not that crispy after they drenched it in some kind of sauce. Finally, the "soufflé cheesecake" was really just cheesecake (no "soufflé" discernible). I went back and forth between giving 3 or 4 stars. If Yelp allowed 1/2 stars, I would easily give 3.5.

    Rachael C.

Our server was great. The service from the hostess and even the bus boy was excellent. They all thanked us for dining with them. We felt very appreciated. The food was average. The prices were very high. I didn't think this meal was worth it because the prices are high without an amazing view. I'm happy we ate here, but probably wouldn't be back. The cheesecake wasn't that good and the Boursin mashed potatoes weren't that good. The chicken was just OK. The lobster and gnocchi pasta was pretty good and the bread pudding dessert was good.

We tried this restaurant for breakfast and dinner since it was close to where we were staying. Dinner was pretty good, but between salad and dinner courses there was a long lag and we were ready to go by the time the entrée came. We wondered if our server forgot to fire the entrees... The ribs on the appetizer menu are extremely spicy! The ricotta appetizer was amazing! The Caesar salad was blah. The lobster gnocchi was underwhelming as the lobster was dry. Hubby had the short ribs and they were really fatty. He loved the salmon sashimi. Breakfast was good, it was New Years Day but no special menu or any bartender for that matter. We both enjoyed the loco moco but wished for an Espresso Martini to start the new year. Oh well Servers were kind both times.

We are here three separate times on recent visit to Kauai. First visit we were served by Candace. She was fantastic. We were sitting by a very loud 12top and requested to be moved as they were screaming and partying extremely loud. All good, we just wanted to hear each other and enjoy our meal. We enjoyed the special fish of the night and it was so delicious!!! We also enjoyed the yellow tale appetizer. Also delicious. Next am we tried for breakfast. Not amazing. I ordered the breakfast tacos. No real flavor and a bit of a gut bomb. Hubs had oatmeal. He said it was ok. Dinner again. Requested Candace as our server. Had beef ribs, yellow tail app, coconut soup and steak. Good meal. First night was better. But, still good. I think we were bummed the special fish dish was not available. I old visit again for dinner...

We loved Red Salt! Tucked within the Koʻa Kea Resort, it's the perfect place for a fancy meal. Prices are a bit higher than other places but you get what you pay for here and it's absolutely worth it. The food is phenomenal, drinks are made to perfection and service is amazing! We started with Red Salt martinis, made to perfection, and a fun bonus that you get your shaker at the table. We also shared the Seared Hokkaido Scallops, which melt in your mouth and pair perfectly with the corn and sausage mix. For dinner, I opted for the Cauliflower Steak and loved it. My husband ordered the surf and turf which was huge yet he still managed to finish every bite. The ambiance is lovely and while there isn't a direct ocean view, it was nice to check out the hotel and pool area that does have a view.

My husband and for our anniversary dinner and the food and service were great. Our server, Ashely, was incredibly kind and attentive to details. The food was delicious, and we were lucky enough to be able to watch the sunset from our table. I took off one star because the front is often left unmanned, and if you want to call for a reservation or to go order, you will be on your own. We called to try to move our reservation time, and you just never get an answer even after leaving messages. We loved the food so much that we tried to order to go the next night and you simply cannot reach anyone by phone. We drove to the restaurant to order, and I can see the phone behind the hostess desk, and when I call there is no ringer on. They have the ringer off, probably because they are busy and do not want to take to go orders. That's all fine and understandable, but if you call the front desk, 10 feet away, they directed us to come in person to order. I showed up and was told they might not accommodate our to go order because they are busy... Luckily the bartender was able to take our order, but it just seems like they need to work on their communication. It's easy to answer the phone and say they can't take to go orders right now.

Request a table near the windows for a sunset view. We arrived and were greeted and seated immediately. Shortly afterwards we were served complementary spicy edamame. We ordered three appetizers to share. Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower, Black Garlic & Yuzu Ahi Tartar and Vietnamese Style Sashimi. The Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower was excellent, golden raisins and pine nuts add sweetness and texture, balsamic vinegar counters with wonderful acid contrast. The Black Garlic & Yuzu Ahi Tartar is simply fabulous, one of the best bites I have ever had. I first had this dish two years ago when it was introduced as a new dish in a prefix meal. On that trip we returned to enjoy the dish once again. Had it again last year as I travel to Kauai each year. I'm happy to see it is still on the menu! Our third dish was the Vietnamese Style Sashimi and it was okay, although a bit underwhelming for Eating House standards. It was fresh but lack the complexity that I have grown to expect from this restaurant. We requested some wasabi and it helped with the flavors. My thinking is the jalapeño oil should have been more concentrated or pronounced. To be clear I did not complain, regardless the dish was removed from our bill. Very nice. Thank you. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. The view at sunset was amazing. Looking forward to returning. Highly recommended!

The front desk staff guided me to the elevator. This trip was for my birthday. In every reservation when asked about a special occasion, I put birthday. This was the first restaurant to acknowledge my special day. The check-in staff wished me well as did the server. We had been to several restaurants prior to Eating House that didn't say a word. Kudos to the staff for its kindness. The restaurant is open air and very comfortable. It has a rustic feel. We were seated by the window on a cool, rainy night but were perfectly dry the whole evening. On top of that, our server was very helpful in guiding us to order the right amount of food. He brought us a serving of edamame which is always on the house. The shrimp & pork potstickers were very good. I had the ramen which was tasty, filling and a great choice. Our server was terrific to put the spicy oil on the side which made it easier for me to eat. My husband had the butterfish which is the best I have ever tasted. It is a signature dish and always a pleaser. The only real downside is the limited menu. We were told that because of a staff shortage, it wasn't the typical menu. This was disappointing. But they did have the best of the Roy's dishes. So far, it has been the best experience that we have had in Poipu.

Keoki's Paradise describes itself as a place where guests can "relax in a lush tropical paradise"…read morewhile enjoying delicious island-style cooking, exotic drinks, and live music. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but relaxing or paradise-like. We were a party of six and were seated outside, despite there being available tables inside. There were also a lot of bugs around the outdoor dining area, which made the experience even less enjoyable. Shortly after we ordered, it started raining--hard. Someone eventually closed the roof and lowered a canvas wall for us, but in the middle of our dinner, it started pouring again. We had to jump out of our seats to keep from getting soaked. Our dishes were already wet from the rain, and it was only then that we realized the roof and canvas wall had been opened back up after the first round of rain. What made the situation even more frustrating was the **lack of attentive service**. We were left to deal with the rain and wet table on our own and had to scramble to protect ourselves and our food from getting soaked. Given the circumstances, we expected the staff to be more proactive in checking on us and helping make the situation more manageable. Instead, we felt largely left on our own. Between the bugs, the rain, the uncomfortable seating, and the lack of service, it was nearly impossible to enjoy our meal. For a restaurant that promotes itself as a place to "relax in a lush tropical paradise," this was far from the experience we expected. As for the food, the meal itself was mediocre. **Seafood Risotto** - This came with lobster, shrimp, fish, and shiitake mushrooms. Unfortunately, every bite was extremely salty. **Fish Duo** - I don't recall what type of fish was served, but the two people who ordered it seemed to enjoy it. **Keiki Grilled Cheese** - The cheese wasn't melted enough. **Calamari** - A small portion, but fortunately, the strips were tender. **Pineapple Carrot Muffins & Sweet Taro Rolls** - These were good on their own and not overly sweet. We weren't fans of the cinnamon butter, though, as it had a strange taste. **Original Hula Pie** - Nothing to rave about. It was supposed to be made with macadamia nut ice cream, but it tasted more like plain vanilla ice cream. Overall, the combination of the uncomfortable outdoor dining conditions, bugs, rain, lack of attentive service, and mediocre food made this a disappointing experience. For the price point, we didn't feel the meal was worth it. **Do yourself a favor, skip Keoki's and head to Beach House instead.**

She's friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and somehow always seems to know exactly what you need before you have to ask. She remembers her guests, offers wonderful recommendations, and makes every visit feel special. Outstanding food is what first brought us to Merriman's, but Mandy is one of the biggest reasons we come back year after year. She is an incredible ambassador for Merriman's and a true asset to the team. Mahalo, Mandy! We can't wait to see you again on our next trip to Kauai. Simon and Heather

Of all the fine dining experiences we had in Kauai and Maui, my wife rated this as her least liked. The service and ambience are both good, and the food is prepared well, but the menu is just... boring. For the prices we are paying, nothing really stood out on flavor or creativity. I want to emphasize that everything was prepared well, and you won't have a bad experience... I just expected more from a restaurant with this reputation.

The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.

It was the highlight of the meal and one of the best things we ate that entire week. Visited here on our last night in Kauai and the vibes, ambiance, and service were just right for a nice romantic dinner. Our server Angie was fantastic. I loved my frozen mocktail - the virgin ube lava flow had satisfying ube flavor. The House Salad was a great start to the meal with a nice mix of greens and goat cheese with sweet flavors from the candied pecans, craisins, and pineapple vinaigrette. But the Kauai Prawns & Cheesey Polenta Cake, with sundried tomato, white wine, herbs, and cream, was the star of the show. I'm still thinking about it months later. For entrees we got the Blackened Fresh Catch and the MacNut Baked Fish, which were both enjoyable. The restaurant is located upstairs on the 2nd floor. Parking wasn't too bad, but it can get busy. There's a 3% surcharge for using credit card.

For entrees we got the rib eye and crusted fish. Fish was good. However the steak was horrendous, particularly for the price they charge of $65. It had zero crust and was paper thin. It look like it was cooked wet because of how grey the exterior of the meat was. I was shocked that they sent out the dish that way. It was horribly cooked and complete rip off. I wouldn't complain if they had charged 20-25$ for that type of cooking, but $65 for that is unacceptable. Don't order the steak. Pretty disappointed by the standards, I want to like the place but the fact they sent out that steak and charge the price they did is enough for me to not want to eat here again.

I ended up choosing the vongole e gamberetti which was a nice blend of fresh seafood and spaghetti in a zesty broth. However, m'lady got the spaghetti bolognese and I'm telling you: this is the best, most flavorful, freshest bolognese I've ever tasted. I only got 2 bites and had to play it cool because, well, I made the choice I did. I was effusive in my praise afterwards and everyone who worked there concurred and said I was just the latest to discover this incredible dish! If you enjoy this dish, trust me: it's better than any other kind you've had in the past. After the meal, we met another waiter and chatted with him about the restaurant, recipes, and this neighborhood. Just as friendly as everyone else. Make it a point to stop here and get that bolognese!

After we placed our order for the steamed mussels the server informed us that it would be a mixture of mussels and clams. When the dish came out, it was all clams, no mussels at all. They were very good and the curry sauce they were steamed in was yummy, but it just wasn't what we initially ordered. I ordered the fresh catch fish, which was very disappointing. The fish itself was very fresh tasting, but it was overcooked to the point of being dry. It was also bland and seemed to be unseasoned. It sat on a bed of purple sweet potato with a fresh succotash mixture on the side. The vegetables must have been plated long before the fish was ready because the potatoes and vegetables were no longer even warm, which was an unpleasant combo with the overcooked, bland fish. There was a sauce on the side, but not nearly enough considering the dry slab of tasteless fish sitting on top of cold potatoes. Others at the table ordered the lamb chops and steaks. The lamb chops were delicious and those at our table with steaks seemed very happy with them. Our server forgot to bring the drinks to 2 of the 6 people in our party. She did offer to remove the mussels from the bill due to the error in preparing this dish. Atmosphere was extremely loud, there was a singer in the bar area with the volume turned up high. That combined with the large bar area open to the restaurant made it so loud that it was nearly impossible to carry on a conversation in the dining area. It is a fairly pricey restaurant. For the price, I'd expect better service and a better prepared meal. There are far better choices elsewhere on the island.
