I've been wanting to try Puerto Rican cuisine for a while now, and there aren't too many options in…read morePittsburgh. When I saw Flavor of Puerto Rico was offering a $6 discount on an online ordering app, I was definitely interested. Tonight, I ordered the baked chicken sandwich, sweet plantains (maduros), a beef and cheese empanada, as well as a slice of tres leches. It was a lovely meal at a great price. The sandwich was simple, but very good. Their chicken is roasted perfectly, and incredibly tender. They give you a pretty good portion for the price, too. Pan de agua, or water bread, is homemade and soaks up the chicken juices. It's great! There's also a bit of cheese in this sandwich, which was a nice touch. This was my first time trying maduros, so I wasn't too sure what to expect other than a sweet flavor. These were definitely sweet, and they are generous with their side portions. Maduros are caramelized on the outside and quite soft on the inside. I'm not the biggest fan of maduros now that I know their flavor, but these were clearly expertly made and still worth trying. The empanadas (or pastellitos) are an absolute must try when you visit this place. I got the beef and cheese, which was sooo good! The ground beef is juicy and flavorful, while the crust is light and crunchy. I didn't find any cheese in this empanada, though. I was a fan of their tres leches. It was very well soaked and creamy. It's topped with a nice coating and a dusting of cinnamon (the cinnamon flavor is not very prominent). The dessert is not too heavy, either. I do wish the portion was a little bigger. All in all, this is a hidden gem in Mount Oliver. There are only a few Puerto Rican places in Pittsburgh, and this surely excellent food which seems quite authentic! Now they have a more consistent menu, too, instead of just daily specials. Definitely worth a try for anyone who's curious about Puerto Rican cuisine.

The pernil was the best!!!! Flavor of rice and maduros was also very good…read more I ordered a salad and the lettuce was not clean... Also, the portions for the price were not sufficient. Received a large takeout container of rice with a small scoop of the pork. The pollo guisado was okay.

Really loved this place. Authentic Puerto Rican food and great service…read more The staff is engaging and willing to help you if you aren't familiar with Puerto Rican food. Lots of locals and lunch crowd. Staff knew people by name when they came in. Everything was made by them. The pulled pork bowl was my favorite. The fried plantains in the bowl were awesome. If there is one thing I would change it is the dinning room. It is clean and spacious but very utilitarian. For all the ethnic charm of the staff and vibrant flavors the dinning room is spartan. Highly recommend you try this place - I drove out of my way to get here and it was worth it.

RR is just what this area needed! I've been here a few times now, and I love it. When I confessed to the staff that I'm not fond of spicy food, they insisted that Puerto Rican, while flavorful, is not spicy unless you ask for a spicy sauce. They were absolutely right on that description. So far, I've had Monfongo (w/ shrimp), ground beef & cheese Pastalillo, loaded Relleno, and Maduros. Everything was delicious, but special shout-out to the Pastelillo, which was EXCELLENT. It's flaky fried dough, stuffed with your choice of protein. In my humble opintion, this is the best item on a menu filled with great food. Also...just added to the menu are Tres Leches cake, and Chocolate Tres Leches cake. The chocolate was great. I love that it was sweet, but not *too* sweet. I'll be ordering food here a lot.
