There'a few local places that come to mind that get 5 stars, and they share the unique mojo of introducing cool, unique and non-typical ethnic/cultural food to the Valley (Little Damascus and Bombay Curry Grill come to mind...). Welcome Anna's Cookin to that list. Been hearing buzz, both word of mouth and on social, so had to make a stop. In short? Oh.....my.....Lord. THIS may have been one of my most "stop me in my tracks, do a double take, and is this place for REAL?" dining experiences in the last few years. Note, it's a small little place on Mahoning Ave, unassuming to look at. Menus (daily) on the wall, pleasant staff, great guy waited on us. Got carryout just threw darts at the wall- honey chicken, chicken empenadas, fried plantains, spanish rice, some rice n beans, just wanted a potpourri cuz I'm a grazer of sorts :-) . Met Anna, adorable, and she tossed in some pernil pork and mac salad gratis "for the new customer". Welp...got home, and was floored. Cuz really, post COVID seems like a lot of dining experiences are getting "meh"- seemingly more difficult to get good food out. Here? Not only a different cultural Puerto Rican twist, but again some of the best food I've eaten in a loooong time. Everything, and I mean everything, was spot on. Damn, I do enjoy food thats not run-of-the-mill standard fare, and Anna's kills it. As I say in all my reviews, the bottom line review you can give for any eatery is "would I come back?". A definite yes and an easy 5 stars.

This little slice of heaven is located in an old bank giving it a fortress feel outside. Inside you find a cute space decorated by the very proud Puerto Rican owners. I ordered at the counter from an I-pad like device than sat with eager anticipation. The smells coming from the kitchen made my mouth water something fierce. When my food arrived I was like a Mad Dog as I tore into my meals ( yes plural, don't judge ) I began by dumping my garlic sauce all over my Mofongo. Next I poured my shrimp over my rice and peas and now I was ready to eat. The garlic completely complimented the plantain mash and when I paired that with some of my shrimp from my other dinner it was a match made in heaven. The shrimp were not only cooked perfectly but they were huge and I generously got about 10 to my order. The rice and peas were perfectly flavored on their own but were made better with the addition of the shrimp & peppers along with their magical Criolla sauce . I also tried both the guava pastries as well as the Quesitos and both were fire . Overall the prices are really good for the quantity and quality of their food, service was quick and my only wish is they were closer to my house, but they are definitely worth the 35 mile trip

RR is just what this area needed! I've been here a few times now, and I love it. When I confessed to the staff that I'm not fond of spicy food, they insisted that Puerto Rican, while flavorful, is not spicy unless you ask for a spicy sauce. They were absolutely right on that description. So far, I've had Monfongo (w/ shrimp), ground beef & cheese Pastalillo, loaded Relleno, and Maduros. Everything was delicious, but special shout-out to the Pastelillo, which was EXCELLENT. It's flaky fried dough, stuffed with your choice of protein. In my humble opintion, this is the best item on a menu filled with great food. Also...just added to the menu are Tres Leches cake, and Chocolate Tres Leches cake. The chocolate was great. I love that it was sweet, but not *too* sweet. I'll be ordering food here a lot.

Lots of locals and lunch crowd. Staff knew people by name when they came in. Everything was made by them. The pulled pork bowl was my favorite. The fried plantains in the bowl were awesome. If there is one thing I would change it is the dinning room. It is clean and spacious but very utilitarian. For all the ethnic charm of the staff and vibrant flavors the dinning room is spartan. Highly recommend you try this place - I drove out of my way to get here and it was worth it.

For food, we shared two appetizers and honestly could have made a meal out of them. The Dominican Flag was incredible: crispy fried plantains, perfectly melty fried cheese, Dominican salami and smoky longaniza, all topped with pickled red onions that added the perfect zing. Every bite was packed with flavor and felt like true comfort food. We also loved the Loaded Yuca Balls; crispy golden yuca stuffed with cheese and topped with roasted pineapple, jalapeños, sour cream, and bacon. The combination of sweet, spicy, cheesy, and savory was amazing. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was great. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu!

Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and did a great job throughout our meal. I ordered the Garlic Chimichurri Shrimp. While the shrimp was cooked well, it had a pretty fishy taste that just wasn't for me, and I wasn't a fan of the cilantro aioli. Several people in our group really liked the pineapple dressing, though, so I'd definitely give that a try if I went back. Next time, I'd order a different entrée because there were several other dishes that looked delicious. The only thing that felt a little off was when we first walked in. The gentleman at the front just stared at us without greeting or acknowledging us, which was a bit intimidating. It wasn't a huge deal, but a simple "Hi, we'll be with you in a moment" would have made for a warmer first impression. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd definitely return to try something different on the menu. I also had the flan, which was pretty good and the Tropical Bay House which was tasty! ,
