Horrible service - I ordered delivery on a snowy day. The delivery driver called me an hour after I placed order said he doesn't want come into my building and asked me to go outside and meet him by the garage because he doesn't have time to find the building - while I explained to him explicitly where my building is. I have had dozen deliveries to my apartment without any issues. He is the ONLY delivery guy who did not even try to find the building and asked me to get the food myself. I had to change and went outside to pick it up myself while he was sitting in his car getting warm and comfy - clearly he did not even try to find the building or make an effort to do his only job - to deliver the food to the door. Called the restaurant; manager did not apologize or called me back personally and someone else called back but did not do anything about such situation. They clearly did not care about customer service to even tolerate such poor behavior from its delivery person. I will not be back. Food is also mediocre and bland. read more

Unless you're with Lydia L., it's tough to find decent Asian eats in Westchester. Red Plum is your typical pan-Asian restaurant: there's a section of the menu for sushi, a section for Thai food, a section for Chinese food, and so on. It's also tough to find a restaurant in Westchester with a decent atmosphere (e.g., absence of screaming children, strollers, etc.). Red Plum is definitely more formal than a habachi joint, but not quite as stuffy as some of the other restaurants in Larchmont and Mamaroneck. Our server asked us if we wanted to order drinks. The cocktails and wine are Manhattan-priced, with most cocktails in the $10-11 range. For an entree, I ordered the Buddhist's Delight, which comes with a side of rice. The dish is a combination of steamed vegetables (which were still a little crunchy, which I enjoyed) and silken tofu. Prior to ordering, I had asked the waitress about the sauce the dish was served in, because the menu did not specify. She told me there was no sauce, but it turns out the Buddhist's Delight is served in a light butter sauce. If I had known, I would have asked the sauce to be served on the side. I had a bite of my friend's pad Thai, and it was just alright; the noodles were dry and the sauce was sweeter than it should have been. As is the case with many pan-Asian restaurants, all of the food was decent, but none of it was particularly outstanding. Red Plum is a good solution to the dearth of options for a nice dinner with friends in the area. Just be warned: parking on the weekends is a nightmare! read more

The food is fine. Not amazing, but it's ok. But the service was terrible. My reservation was for 3 people at 7PM. Exits on the highway were closed due to down trees from a storm earlier that day - and they were closed in both directions, so everyone was running late. At 7:05, the restaurant called me asking where we were. I told them the situation and they were so rude and kept asking where I was! I finally got there at 7:15, and the VERY RUDE hostess brought me to my table and asked where the rest of my party was. Again, I explained the situation with closed exits on the highway. About 5 minutes later, the manager came over and asked me where the rest of my party was! If he wanted to give the table to another party, he could have asked me to sit at the bar. I would have been ok with that. But instead he went over to the hostess and said something to her in Japanese, then she looked over at me. CLEARLY they were talking about my situation!! And all this time I was there, no one asked me for a drink. The waitress was nowhere to be found. When my friends arrived & we all ordered drinks, the waitress asked them for ID, but not me... I informed her it was rude to ask 2 out of 3 women for ID & very insulting. The rest of the meal was fine, but again, the food is nothing to write home about. Haiku a few doors down is MUCH better! There is something about Red Plums lunch specials that keep me running back. Maybe it's because you can get a big, juicy filet Mignon with a large array of vegetables, along with soup, salad and rice for $12? Yes, that is definitely the reason. They're food is always HIT, never miss. It's consistent, the food always tastes exactly the same, which is a hard thing to find in a restaurant. Their terriyaki sauce is delicious, the miso soup is really rich not like the generic salt water some restaurants serve. They lost a star because the wait service can be pretty rude sometimes. I came here yesterday for lunch with a friend, and our waiter was impatient and sarcastic. My friend has a hard time using chop sticks, so she kindly asked for a fork. The food came, and she waited 5 minutes for her fork. Finally she grew so impatient that she got up and asked someone for a fork. When she returned to the table the waiter approached us as said "I was getting your fork, you could have waited!"... The waiter should have brought the fork along with her meal she she would have to wait eat it right away. I used to like this place but with time the quality of the food went down. We want for lunch here today order curry shrimp with wonton soup and salad the lunch special. I love the sauce but the the shrimp wasn't clean it was such a turn of We lost our appetite very quickly ! Bothe orders had the same issue when I point it to the writers she got the boss who decided to take it off the bill then he said he will take one order off I told him what ever he thinks is fair. He took off the order but charged me for the soups and salads that the order came with. At the end of the day I really don't think it's the way to keep clients. If u wish for clients to come back after bad experience u make they experience better and it's not by charged them for the extras! read more

We went to Red Plum today for the first time and were very happy we did. As other reviewers have noted, the decor is very pleasing - indoor waterfall, birch, bamboo - great care was taken with the entire interior. We started with Coconut Seafood Chowder. It was served in a carved out coconut - and the chowder was simply divine - nectar of the Gods, no kidding! The Sushi a la Carte was extremely fresh and appetizing. Our main dishes were the Golden Dragon Roll, American Dream Roll and mine was the Naruto Roll: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado & tobiko wrapped in cucumber - yumm!! We all shared and everything was exquisite. Also had wonderful sake and green tea. We felt like a million bucks by the time we left. ;-) Oh, and the service was very polite and just right. This was my first time having raw sushi and I must say it was great! I had the spicy tuna and enjoyed every bite! The red plum wine (tantra) was also very good; well that's if you like sweet wine. Tonight, i went here for my friends birthday with a few girlfriends. We ordered some vegetable spring rolls for appetizers which were delicious, and then ordered our food. The service seemed great! I decided to get Shrimp Pad Thai, which I've eaten in the past. The food came fast. My food sat in front of me for about two minutes while i waited for my friend to get hers. I got a whiff of a combination of dog food and sweaty socks, making me VERY hesitant to eat what was in front of me. I work in a customer service industry, and I NEVER want to be difficult. I decided to give it a shot and take a bite. Maybe it won't be as bad as it smells. IT WAS. A couple of my friends tried a bite after seeing my reaction, and confirmed I wasn't making it up. My friend literally spit it out. I suppose the manager (a woman, who my friend said she thought was the manager) came up to ask if everything was okay. I told her i was so sorry, that i never return food but i just couldn't eat it- and that it tasted terrible. She tried explaining to me that Pad Thai has a sweet taste, and that's how it's supposed to be. I apologized again and asked if I could have the Shrimp Lo Mein, something i knew was hard to mess up. This woman had the audacity to tell me "okay, but next time you can't return your food" with an attitude and a sour facial expression. The fact that ANYONE working with customers would refuse to make sure someone was satisfied is just beyond me. I said "okay", and she walked away. A few minutes later a man came back with the Lo Mein, and while placing it in front of me, said "This is non returnable" ....... WHAT! I'm sorry, but you work in the food industry! You work with customers! I apologized numerous times before returning the plate- and didn't want to insult them and they were STILL so rude. Unfortunately since i was with a large group, tip was already included. If there was ANY chance of me going back, they ruined that. Great first impression, huh? read more

Had dinner last night and it was delicious! Very busy on weekends, but service was good! I got a few rolls and my husband had sashimi! The only negative was some of the fish on the platter was slimy- they put salted mackerel and something else and it wasn't as good a quality as the other pieces on the plate! I will start with the disclaimer that I am not a sushi/seafood eater, so my impressions of Red Plum are going to be from a different angle. I don't think this place is any better or any worse than most of the Asian fusion places on the strip. I tend to lean to the Thai side when I go to places like this and I have enjoyed the red curry and the crispy chicken with the sweet chili dipping sauce. I also enjoy the vegetable dumplings and Vietnamese salad. Everything is decent and tasty. They also do wonderful cocktails. Most of the time the service here is quite friendly. There have been a couple of times when it's been faulty or slow, but those are not the norm. I find the staff efficient and pleasant. Don't go here too late in the evening because it is a bit of a bar scene with crowds and loud music. read more

I would give this 3 1/2 stars if I could. We have been frequent visitors here over the past year or so, and I do like there sushi.... but... there are just way to many fillers in every single roll we have ever had from here. I don't see the need to put that much filler into a sushi roll, we always end up leaving feeling disturbingly bloated. We do love their rock shrimp however. It is a staple item we order without question every time we visit. We've also had the summer rolls which were great as well. My favorite roll is the crave roll, but I wish they would just put a little less filler on the top. On the other hand, their Kani salad is very good. And I love going in the spring/summer because they have the outdoor seating. A martini, a nice breeze and a good view is perfect for an early dinner. They also have a hibachi section which we have yet to try, but it usually seems busy so Im sure it's good. Very good service and very good hibachi. My fiancé and I ordered the steak hibachi and the salmon hibachi. Both platters were cooked perfectly to order and the food came out swiftly. We did notice that the food's flavor was pretty basic, but the array of sauces that they put on the table compliment the meals nicely. Our drinks were strong, but still yummy. If I could give this restaurant 3.5*, I would. I ate the same thing in 4 different sushi restaurants in the past 2 weeks: iced tea, avocado salad and 4 pieces of salmon sushi. The dressing at Red Plum was my least favorite dressing of the 4 restaurants. The salmon was very fresh and high quality, The service was excellent (4:30 PM on a weekday). The RED PLUM, that was in White Plains, was awesome! Unfortunately it has gone out of business, in White Plains. I reached out to the RED PLUM restaurant in Mamaroneck, located at: 251 Mamaroneck Ave Mamaroneck, NY 10543 United States And they were not as accommodating. When I call, for delivery the first time, they said I was within their 15 minute time limit for delivery, and delivered the food. The food was good; I still like the one in White Plains better, though. I wanted to remain loyal to this restaurant chain. I tip the driver, two dollars, then immediately changed it to four dollars, because of the distance. The next time I tried to order from the Mamaroneck location, they said I was too far for delivery. I believe the reason is, the driver wasn't happy with the four dollar tip. I hope this wasn't the case, unfortunately, this is RED PLUM, does not believe in customer loyalty. The Red Plum was recommended to us by a couple of good friends that share a love for Japanese cuisine. It was somewhat comical to us that a third Japanese restaurant had opened up on Mamaroneck Avenue. Once we experienced our dinner at The Red Plum, we realized it stood out significantly from the other two. Definitely make a reservation if you are going on the weekend. The staff was gracious, knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance and décor of the restaurant is funky and so aesthetically pleasing that it gets you excited for a good meal. The lights and colors are very alluring. Their specialty drinks were outstanding. You absolutely cannot miss the Lychee Blossom Martini. It is made with Stoli Peach, Cointreau and fresh Lychee puree. My husband had the Sake Sangria made with red wine, sake, fruit juice and fresh fruit slices. Amazing! The dinner menu is creative and original. There are Asian fusion type choices as well. For dinner we ordered a few specialty rolls. A couple that stood out were the Naruto Roll- Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Avocado & Tobiko wrapped in paper-thin cucumber; theBlack Dragon Roll with pepper tuna, mango, eel, avocado and black Tobiko. The sushi was prepared so beautifully, the fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful and the presentation was unforgettable. We finished our meal with a serving of Chicken Pad Thai which was served with sides of sprouts, scallions and peanuts so that you could assemble your own perfect bite. The Red Plum was fantastic.
