I've passed by this place dozens, if not hundreds, of times and always shrugged it off. On a whim we decided to finally try Red Oak for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised! The inside is dated, like it was updated in the late 80s/early 90s and never again... but don't let that deter you, because everything was very very clean. Our waitress was nice and very attentive. The buffet itself wasn't huge, but had quite a bit to offer including: different types of scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, Belgian waffles, two different types of sausage, scrapple, bacon, and more. Prices are fantastic at only $12.99 for ages 13+ and then tiered pricing for kids 12 and under. I definitely feel we got our moneys worth and will be back to try the dinner buffet. One thing to note: the women's bathroom in particular is VERY small/tight. There are 4 regular stalls, no handicapped, and the sinks are maybe 3' from the stalls. I've been to this buffet a few times and I think it's a great place to eat. They serve breakfast and dinner buffet style and I think both are amazing value. The breakfast has most of the staples you would expect like scrambled eggs, scrambled omelettes, waffles, pancakes, french toast, and home fries. They also have a few good surprises like cream chipped beef, fruit toppings, and scrapple. There are a few breakfast items they could add. Oddly missing are bagels and toast (unless I missed them somehow?). Maybe some tater tots and fresh fruit could make good additions as well. I've only been to their dinner once. When I visited, there was chicken cordon bleu, crab cakes, ravioli, pasta, mac n cheese, fries, fried shrimp, steamed fish, and probably a few more items I'm forgetting about. For dessert, there was some vanilla/chocolate pudding, rice pudding, bread pudding, and probably an item or two I forgot about. I'm not sure if the menu changes but I stuffed myself with everything listed above and loved it. The selection they have is a little small but what makes it in is pretty good. Everytime I've visited the place, it was packed which is vital for buffets. It means the food is being changed regularly enough to be fresh. For people who are icky about germs, they require everyone to wear plastic gloves when going to get food. They've required this since the COVID pandemic in 2020. I don't have any feelings towards this practice but just thought I'd bring it up for those that do care. Overall, I think the food and the value is very good. It's about $13 per person for breakfast and about $23 per person for dinner (drinks are extra). You will easily get your money's worth, especially for breakfast. For breakfast it gives you a basic approach to all you can eat from oat meal, to waffles and eggs to scrapple and bacon home fries with a desert you can't go wrong. Dinner could improve for the price. All in all it beats the ho hom of making it yourself plus the cooking and clean up. The price is what you'd pay for a smaller breakfast. The help is friendly and cheerful. Buffet style left in covid but this place has made it through the rough times, before you judge what's made think of the effort to deal with the public and ad the public attitudes and you will see how the other half lives. .. this is work and the price for it is not bad . ..4 stars for breakfast 3 1/2 stars on dinner . The food and menu are minimalistic. I feel this is rather a great idea, too. It allows the food to consistently be changed out if need be and allows for the food to be on the more fresh side. I went for dinner with my family. Everyone in the family enjoyed the food and even felt it was a great place to add to restaurants to come back to when we visit Wildwood, NJ, in the future. They have mini rolls with butter, next to two soups, then you are greeted by a lovely salad bar, followed by the food, and lastly, the deserts. Some foods they offer in the salad bar are lettuce, raw onions, green bells, shredded carrots, tomatoes, mushroom salad, chickpeas, red kidney beans, 4 pasta salads, chicken salad, tuna salad and some other options. A few of the salad dressing were ranch, thousand island, oil, vinegar, and some others. Some foods they offer are corn, mushrooms and peas, fries, mash potatoes, macononi and cheese, pasta(spaghetti or linguini) in butter sauce, Alfredo pasta, rice pilaf, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, veal in marsala sauce, crab cakes/patties, BBQ beef ribs, stuffed tilapia, fried shrimp, hand carved ham, hand craved roast beef and some other options I might have missed. The homemade 100% beef meatballs that they offer are definitely something to not skip out on! Some sauces they offered separately are gravy, cheddar cheese sauce, and marina sauce. The deserts they offer are rice pudding, bread pudding, vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, red jello, yellow cake with vanilla frosting, and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. The only reason for the 4 star is the veal I ate made me sick, I know some restaurants substitute veal for pork without mentioning it. Kinda why I never took the chance to try it. I was brave enough to try it here, and boy, was my stomach, not a happy camper with me. I feel my pork intolerance kick in with sharp pains on the drive home. Even ended up throwing up approximately 6 times or even more. Otherwise, everything else food wise was delightful as an experience in itself. The waitress was super friendly, regularly checked up asking if we needed any refills on drinks, and frequently would be there to take the dirty dishes when we finished. July 22nd 2023 - We hit the Famous Red Oak Buffet for Breakfast. It's a family run restaurant that's been here for like 50-60 Years. The food was hot and fresh and because it was a Saturday morning in July the place was slammed. As busy as the Red Oak was our waitress gave us outstanding service. The building's exterior, interior and restrooms are dated yet clean and well maintained. You can expect Typical breakfast food Like others have written. Bacon, pancakes, sausages, French toast, pancakes, scrapple, ham, cereals both hot and cold and eggs. I'm pretty sure they use the powdered egg type. The taste was a 6.5 out of 10 and the freshness was an 8. There is no toast on display but we asked the waitress and out came a fresh toasted batch. Drinks are extra but you cannot beat price for all you can eat buffet. My only gripe is that there was no fresh fruit. Fresh fruit is a pretty easy ask. Overall a good option with easy parking. If you're after a family friendly, great value option then this is for you. We loved the retro vibe of all of Wildwood and Red Oak fit right into this theme. The owner reminded me of my Nonna and personally greets families. She's owned the restaurant for 53 years! The food was plentiful and homemade with many choices. The waitress stopped by only once, and by that time we had 8 plates stacked on top of each other at our table. As I headed over to the bathroom, I discovered that all the waitresses were sitting at a table talking and playing on their phones. They require everyone to wear gloves while visiting the buffet line (which is good) but not the staff who bring out the food (who I saw scratch his face and then touch the tongs) or the lady walking around watching everybody who also moved two sets of tongs. If they really cared about safety, all staff would be required to wear gloves that come into contact with the buffet line and honestly masks should be required at the buffet line at the very least because I saw at least one person sneeze and you know not all the germs stayed in his elbow and could have easily landed on any of the food or tongs or gloves people were wearing. So after hearing mixed reviews about the Red Oak, I had to check it out for breakfast. They offer plenty of free parking, and even had a bike rack which was helpful as we cycled from our beach house. The place is large, appeared clean and had a large selection. There were eggs, pancakes, french toast, waffles, oatmeal, cream of wheat, premade omelettes, toast, scrapple, sausage, bacon and more. The eggs and waffles were very good, and even had fruit topping. I found the meats to have an odd flavor, and bacon was soggy. So breakfast is $7.99 for adults, plus drinks $1.59 for tea or coffee or $2.29 for juice. My g/f and Mom were not impressed, reminded me of a complimentary breakfast at a chain hotel. My family was hungry and we decided to try Red Oak out. Overall, we left satisfied and happy with our experience at the buffet. Each family member definitely got more than their money's worth. The salad bar was okay, not many options to choose from, which is fine by me. I just did not care for the dressing. I chose creamy Italian. How do you mess that up? They need to step their game up in this specific department. I was a BIG fan of the fresh baked ham. My wife enjoyed the roast beef. Both were sliced up fresh for us in the carving board. Very, very good. I also enjoyed the mussels. The marinara sauce lacked consistency, not the extrude I am accustomed to. But, it was good. I probably had two dozen. Thumbs up. I noticed the chicken parm was a popular option. I wish I got some. Kind of regret it, so does my family. That went QUICK. Fried shrimp were good. I'll pass on the crab cakes. Just to give some background, just like Atlantic City, I have been coming to Wildwood for the past 22 years. I have come here dozens of times for vacations, trips for car shows, day trips, and college get-always. I love Wildwood. If I ever make a couple million I'm buying a house here. So I have to make extra special care with my reviews for this area because it's that much ingrained in my soul. Anyway, I ran a 5K in North Wildwood and decided to go here to gorge. I have been to the Red Oak several times. My dad loved it because it was a buffet and it was cheap. I haven't been here in about 10 years, but I will say that literally nothing has changed. Same set up, same dishes, same decor. The food had it's ups and downs. The scrapple (the hot dog of breakfast meats) was actually very good, and so was the French toast, waffles, cream chipped beef, and turkey sausage. They also had the Red Oak omelette (spoiler, it's a scrambler not an omelette) which was tasty. The corn muffin was super dry. And two items that they didn't have which surprised me were toast and fresh fruit. Very weird.... Also as a fair warning, because it is a buffet and it is cheap, there are a lot of families there. Do not expect a quiet breakfast! The servers were all very nice and courteous. The restaurant was also clean. I went away carbed up after my run, and feeling a bit nostalgic.
