Red Mango is everywhere, apparently. Stopped by to satiate my sweet tooth following the Lung Cancer Walk in the Riverwalk. I saw the store across the street and it was calling my name... "here, Jelena! Come and get me!". The taunting voice even pronounced my name correctly, so of COURSE I had to go. I tried the seasonal Pumpkin Spice flavor, but sans the graham cracker topping (do not like). I do have a crush on all things pumpkin, but I still prefer my ol' plain standby topped with fresh strawberries and Fruity Pebbles. Other glorious toppings include mochi, Ghirardelli chips, blueberries, raspberries and mango. All super fresh! Sure it's expensive, but that's why it's called a 'treat', yo. read more

On hot days such as these, I feign ignorance to well balanced meals and focus on the one thing that always hits the spot. Hold the phone, froyo IS well balanced. Just as long as it's not truckloads being spoon fed to my mouth then I'll believe it's good! I take large pity on the poor girl that got stuck with a line that would have gone out of the door but because of the heat, everyone crammed inside to stay cool under the AC. So was this a mid-day snack or lunch? I'm leaning towards lunch but everyone was ordering like it was smoothie time. Urgh, smoothies at Red Mango? The shame. I just can't fall into the smoothie craze. Don't get me wrong, having everything tossed into a blender and mixed all into one giant concoction for stomach consumption is tempting but for now, I'm sticking to my little cup and sweet toppings. Like other Red Mangos, there's a whole lot of choosing going on. With the onset of Fall a new pumpkin flavor is on tap but the heat reels me into ordering the original flavor. Give me another few weeks and then I'll go back and venture into the pumpkin for a slice of heaven but it still feels like summer. The seating area is pretty large and filled with plastic seats and formica like tables, perfect for a dine in, and of course dine out and sit across the street along the Riverwalk which is exactly what I proceeded to do and then also proceeded to get hit on by a random man that was pushing his kid like he was a chick magnet. I didn't even hear a word he said because I was savoring the froyo, strawberries and the always appetizing mochi. Silly silly man, food trumped you this time around! read more

OMG! SO GOOD. OMG! SO EXPENSIVE! Hands down, the most refreshing food in Naperville... next to sangria. The Green Tea and Original flavors are both delicious and the toppings are sooo very fresh and beautiful. It's more than a bit costly, especially for the sizes and then considering the size ratio of what you get vs. what you could prob take down. The service is also EXTREMELY slow. It's not the employee's fault, there's only 1 machine for each flavor so yes, there will most likely be a line out of the door and no where to sit inside... no worries on that though, there's plenty of cute places to park yourself to eat in scenic downtown Naperville... IF you can stave yourself from immediately swallowing your entire Red Mango treat. read more

Every time I'm in Naperville, I am compelled to go to Red Mango. It's not a want - it's a NEED. The Original with Raspberries is my old standby: the yogurt is creamy and tart (I know, shock, frozen yogurt that actually tastes like yogurt) and the raspberries are fresh, not frozen. I like this so much that I am unable to order anything else (although I always get a taste of the other flavors and am tempted to try something new). HORRIFYING CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE TONIGHT. (My first 1-star review ever.) My fiancé and I decided to go to Red Mango after dinner tonight as a quick treat. It was my first time at a Red Mango location and I was excited to give it a try, given that we live nearby. Within a few minutes of sitting down at a table with our yogurt, the young lady working behind the counter went to lock the door. We were surprised, as it was only 7:57pm and the hours online (which we'd checked before leaving our house) indicated the store didn't close until 10pm. The mother of the other family that was still in the store looked at her watch and shot us a puzzled look, as well. Moments later, to our utter shock, the young woman announced loudly "okay, we're closed now!" When we, and that the other family eating their yogurt, didn't move, she yelled loudly again, "Have a good night!" We were all so surprised at her tone and abruptness. My fiancé clarified by asking her if we were bothering her by finishing our yogurt (which we'd just purchased) while she closed, and if she was in fact asking us to leave. Her response was "yes, I have a lot to do." We looked at the other family in mutual shock. We gathered our things, as the other family (who had two young children) started to do the same. The employee's name is Allison. She looked to be about high school age, and her disrespectful approach completely ruined our experience and made us regret having patronized Red Mango. Great FroYo! The people behind the counter are usually nice too. They rotate flavors and my favorite is the Pomegranate. They use premium POM Wonderful juice in the mix, and if you get it in winter when pomegranates are in season, they have pomegranate seeds as a topping choice. Otherwise, blueberries and strawberries are a great topping for the pomegranate as well. The only reason they don't get a 5-star review is because when you get just yogurt (without toppings), they don't fill the cup and you may feel cheated. I hate to bring Pinkberry into the conversation (because I think RM is better, and also they don't have any PB locations in Illinois), but at least PB will fill the cup nicely. read more

Since I was already in the area for Naperville Ribfest, we stopped by Red Mango afterwards for a cold treat and it did not disappoint. First of all, I'm already a fan of yogurt...and I'm talking about real yogurt, not the overly sugared kind that masquerades as healthy so Red Mango got a thumbs up from me in that department. Also, they use real fruit and not any "fruit topping" (think of movie theaters saying "butter topping" instead of butter). I got the strawberry, mango and mochi with the original frozen yogurt and it was delicious! The mango really went well with the yogurt and I think next time I'll skip the mochi because although I like mochi, I didn't like it in this particular combination. Strawberry was good too but you definitely have to get the mango! I also got to try some of the green tea and did not like it nearly as much as the original. Now my only problem is not having a Red Mango close to me. I'll be frequenting the Evanston location quite often when my frozen yogurt craving hits. read more

I am a lover of yogurt, and here's how I break it down: Pinkberry is better than Red Mango Red Mango is better than Berry Chill Berry Chill is better than Yogen-Fruz Yogen-Fruz is the worst of all. So, you see, Red Mango does all right. It's definitely get the best you can get for hundreds of miles in any direction, and this location is decent. Plenty of street and lot parking nearby, nice seating area, staff as always been nice, and cheaper than in the city. A win! read more

So this is part of the current frozen yogurt rage? Well, it's not all that exciting after all. We stopped in here for a post-River Walk snack and it was conveniently located across the street from where the River Walk goes by. Now you'd think there's some really magical tasting frozen yogurt to try? Well, took a few tries. First I tried the pumpkin spice seasonal flavor at the moment. After one taste sample, I concluded that it doesn't taste like pumpkin nor is it spicy in any way. Then I tried their mango, after all it is in their name and you'd think it's their flagship product. It was OK but it did not jump out at me as something remarkable. The flavor was very mild and after a while indistinguishable. Maybe it's because I didn't pick any toppings of fruit to add, but my argument for a place like this or a ColdStone Ice Cream for that matter is the same: The ice cream needs to stand on its own. I wish I had tried the blueberry since another customer told me that's their best, but I wonder if it would be too mild like the ones I tried. Would I come back and try another yogurt here? Maybe, but with toppings to cover up their limitations to stand up to the Naked FroYo Test. read more

A better than average froyo joint with a few twists. I stop by here from time to time, and I think we're all familiar with the froyo concept at this point. The things that are noteworthy... the strawberry pearls. These things look a little strange, a bit like orange-ish tapioca balls, but there are like... juice filled pearls. After the annual Ribfest and a hot air balloon ride, we stopped by to check out Red Mango in Naperville downtown. I had heard its similar to Pinkberry out in the west coast. The yogurt is very yummy and you can add your own combination of fresh fruits and other toppings. I recommend the mochi (which isn't listed on their menu) along with any assortment of fruits. I love the chewy texture mixed with the yogurt. I personally thought the original flavor is better than the green tea yogurt. Either way it's an incredible light treat! read more

FINALLY. A taste of real froyo in the Midwest! I'm so excited that this stuff tastes what it's supposed to and what I'm used to in Cali. It's creamier than Pinkberry and loads better compared to those horrid knockoffs in Chi-town (ie Berry Chill, Starfruit). Just one bite in your mouth and the difference is overpowering. The location is cute and decor is just your standard Red Mango-like. Very clean and well maintained. I'm just curious how it will fare once winter comes! read more

For reference, I have been to Berry Chill and Starfruit (Chicago) so far. This is as good if not better than Berry Chill. The girls behind the counter were helpful and offering samples of their smoothies. I tried the green tea flavor, which wasn't too overpowering. The fruit and the yogurt were delicious, and if in the 'burbs I'd go again! Theres even parking nearby. Only negative the atmosphere was a little too "chill." I've been on a frozen yogurt kick lately. Maybe because we got a taste of spring/summer weather lately and of course that means cool treat. There are always at least 3-4 flavors you can choose from and the day I visited they had the original, pomegranate, tangomonium and Madagascar vanilla. After you choose your yogurt there are several toppings to choose from--fruit, nuts, cereal, chocolate chips and my stand by--mochi. I chose Vanilla, topped with mango and mochi. The frozen yogurt was smooth and had a good vanilla flavor but I found it had a bit of a funny aftertaste. The mango and mochi were fresh, but my friend got vanilla with fresh raspberries and mini chocolate chips. Suddenly I was having an attack of yogurt envy--why didn't I think of that combination? That's the best thing about this frozen yogurt/topping concept-- the combinations are endless! I really want to give RM a 3 star review, but this location gets 4 stars because it's by the Naperville riverwalk. So you can get your yogurt and stroll or sit and enjoy the scenery on a sunny day. read more

Omnomnomnom. Can I tell you how absolutely and utterly obsessed with this place I am? The sweet, tart, fat-free (!!!) frozen yogurt is perfect for a summer night on the Riverwalk. I've even come here in the winter to get my fix. This was the perfect place for me after I got my wisdom teeth out, and the coldness of the froyo helped with the pain. Anyway, I usually stick to the original. Something about it just makes me keep coming back for more and more. I think they secretly put crack in their yogurt. It makes sooo much more sense. Sometimes I'll be daring and swirl with with Madagascar Vanilla or the POM Pomegranate flavor. Last time, I stepped out of my box and got the Key Lime Pie. I know, totally unexpected. But AWESOME! All the flavors are absolutely delicious. You can't go wrong! The toppings are amazing as well. I usually get an assortment of the fresh fruits, the chocolate chips and mochi. If you haven't had mochi, do yourself a favor and get some now! The chewy rice squares are perfect with the yogurt. The price is a bit high, but it's better than eating ice cream. For a bi-weekly treat, it's not bad. The lines will be out the door, especially in the summer. I wish this one was a self-serve too, where you can try different flavors, put whatever toppings you want, and just pay by the ounce. Meh, I personally don't really get the obsession with fro yo. It's place is okay. They changed to self serve, which I liked. It is now 49 cents an ounce. The employee did a great job of making sure everything was clean. My only issue was the employees who kept walking back and forth from the back to fill up their own cups with fruit and toppings. This was the very first Red Mango I EVER visited and I have been a fan ever since. The wife and I went to Naperville quite often back in the day. I am not sure why we went out there so much because it was at least a 40 minute drive from our home in Chicago....LOL. I loved the place though and one night while visiting we found this gem of a spot in downtown Naperville. It is really small....quaint and on the night we visited it was extremely packed. There was a classic car show display going on that night as well so it was perfect. Get some delicious Froyo....go for a nice walk under the stars and enjoy the roar of classic cars driving down Jackson Ave. Like I said before RED MANGO has some of the best Froyo on Earth and this location is no different....go and get it people. If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars... Anyways, I like this place when I am in my "healthy mood". It is very refreshing and has a really fresh taste to it. I usually get the plain yogurt--I think its just called plain?--with some kind of fruit topping. I would def recommend it if you are looking to cut your calories or just simply looking for a healthy alternative. BUT, this place never seems to hit the spot like Oberweis or Dairy Queen does. I guess I need a double scoop of cookie dough ice cream with fudge oozing out of the sides with a mound of whip cream to satisfy my stubborn sweet tooth... So on those days where I'm feelin' a little chubby and can't have Oberweise or DQ, I will most def hit up Red Mangos :) Try it! read more

Clean facilities, nice decor, and friendly and helpful staff. The pomegranate froyo was really flavorful and soft. I didn't get any toppings, but I really love that the fruit toppings are fresh (I saw!) and they have really fun sugary stuff (Cap'n Crunch, anyone?) The prices are fair and the helpings are much larger than I am used to. Overall, a great place to meet up some friends. There's also a parking lot nearby and the riverwalk is right across the street. I took my sister here because a) she lives in Milwaukee and is therefore deprived of 90-calorie desserts and b) our cousin works here and we like to torture/publicly humiliate her. I have to say, every visit to Red Mango has been a good experience and the Naperville location doesn't lose to NYC locations in quality or service (ie cute lil Asian girls like my cousin). Green tea froyo with mochi is the bestest ever. One thing to note: this is froyo, not ice cream. That means it will taste like yogurt, not ice cream, and you really need to be mentally prepared for that. My sis was not and she was horrified with her first bite but she did agree at the end that it was delicious. Also, keep in mind that 90 calories refers to one serving and even the smallest size is 1.2 servings. You don't need that much froyo, don't be a piggie. read more

Let's start out by saying that I go to this place atleast 2-3 times a month..even if it is in the winter. Everything about this place is fantastic, from the employees to the decor. The flavors are phenomenal and the toppings are outrageous. There are so many to choose from but my usual fave is the original flavor with mango and mandarin oranges. The decor is pretty awsome as well. The seats are pretty comfy and there are even games to play with if you're with your friends such as connect-four and Jenga. Yogurt was okay-not great. The vanilla had a weird taste but was edible. Customer service was poor. I came in 45 mins before close and they were out of many toppings and would not get more out. It was also said with attitude. I understand if I came in 15 mins before closing, but on a weekend night in Downtown Naperville you need to be prepared for a later crowd. There are plenty of other places nearby, this one will never get my business again. Hopefully the young associates working there receive some training on acting more professionally. read more

The best place to treat yourself and not feel bad after. Excellent flavors and fresh fruit toppings. My favorite dessert. Interesting thing I've found is that mostly women love this place; not so much men!? My recommended concoction: pomegranate or orchard peach (if they don't have then do original, pumpkin spice is also nice) and add slivered almonds, coconut and some fresh mango or strawberries. I really wanted to love this place, but I guess I've just been spoiled by other froyo joints in the area. I wish there were more froyo flavor options. They only had 4 or 5, compared to the 10-15 flavors other places offer. The toppings were good and fresh, however. I've had a smoothie and this was better for me than the froyo. Will update with review when it opens. Edit: Opened the week of May 12th, 2008. As with most of the "new wave" froyo places, the disclaimer to be said is this ain't your mom's TCBY. It's real frozen yogurt that has a slight tartness to it, and is a whole lot healthier than soft serve. They've got 2 flavors of froyo available - regular and green tea. Pricing at $3.50 for a 4oz small, not including the toppings. So, yes, you feel like you get kicked in the pants a little bit when you're ordering, but there really aren't any other options in the western burbs as of now. The only competitors outside of ones in downtown chicago are the Very Berry in Buffalo Grove, and some froyo place that's opening in Woodfield. Back to the toppings ... dry toppings such as Ghirardelli chocolate, various cereals, and sliced almonds are available along with your standard fresh fruit faire - mangos, strawberries, and on and on. Yes, for you asian-nites, they have mochi topping available, though it's not on the menu board when you order. If you don't know what mochi is, it's sorta a marshmallow sized mini sweet glutinous rice ball. The yogurt itself I found to be fairly smooth, simliar to Very Berry in Buffalo Grove, but sweeter - I think it's more accessible to the non-froyo initiated. It's a lot smoother vs. Berry Chill in the city, which is borderline icy if you watch it melt. The toppings appeared to be fresh, and the service was quick. The location itself is convenient, but parking can be scarce in bustling DT Naperville. Park at nearby Nichols Library and save yourself the search for parking in the lot adjacent to RM. The location itself has seating for about 20 people, and the decor is modern - a good place to hang out with some friends. The only thing keeping RM from getting 5 stars is the price, but without any competition that isn't going to change anytime soon. read more

Not phenomenal but it'll do. There are only 4 flavors of frozen yogurt to choose from and by the looks of it they change every day, which is a cool concept. The flavor of the season is pumpkin spice, which I sampled and did not like. In my opinion it did not taste like pumpkin, just like there was a lot of sugar and maybe spice. I settled on the dulce de leche, which is usually my favorite go to flavor. There was a large enough of a variety of topings, and some I have never seen before. They have these bubble things, filled with bursts of mango or strawberry. I sampled the mango and did not like it because it tasted very much like artificially flavored juice, but the strawberry ones I liked. The mochi, which I always love, was not the best I've ever tasted, didn't seem as chewy as I like. Overall the experience was tasty, but not amazing. read more
