Seafood in the Midwest is never very impressive and a Red Lobster in Iowa is no exception, but it is probably the best option available for those of us who can't make it to the ocean often enough to sate a shrimp craving. The salmon dishes from their fresh fish menu are well spiced and tasty. Their fried shrimp is golden and crispy, though I wish the cocktail sauce tasted a bit stronger, and their scampi is a garlic-y alternative to breaded shrimp. They keep a tank of live lobster if you really want to splurge on some fresh seafood, but I'll never have the heart to order one. Prices can range anywhere from under $10 on the lunch menu to $30+ for the big seafood platters (though at least those platters will provide plenty of leftovers for the average diner). Their sides are a disappointing affair. The salads are full of pale lettuce and the crunchy center pieces. The clam chowder is better than canned, but still bland enough that I have to add pepper to it. The french fries are generic, the coleslaw tastes like they just dumped some mayo on cabbage, and the steamed broccoli has barely any flavor beyond "wet broccoli." It's tempting sometimes just to get the pasta to avoid choosing a side. Their appetizers, on the other hand, are far more appealing. Red Lobster has hands down my favorite cheesesticks -- they're smaller than average, but you get a ton of them. And, of course, the complimentary basket of cheddar bay biscuits is hard to resist despite the calorie count, so long as they're hot and fresh. The waitstaff keeps the table well stocked on those biscuits, if you let them, as well as bringing drink refills so quickly that I can barely keep up with it. The service is friendly and very attentive, making this a smooth dining experience. When it comes to seafood, I'd rather be in New Orleans, but while I'm stuck in Sioux City, Red Lobster will do. read more

Hubby and I walked in for lunch. We only saw one employee. We asked her if she was the only employee. She said yes. She was literally the hostess, waitress, bartender and busboy for the entire restaurant. There's no way one person can run an entire restaurant all by themselves. As pricey as Red Lobster is you'd think they'd be able to pay more than one employee besides the safety factor of only one person running the entire restaurant. As always, this restaurant has phenomenal customer service and high-quality food, and always a fancy ambience. The biscuits from the appetizer are always an irresistible favorite and always oven fresh. Today, I had fried Wild-Caught Flounder with a side of Wild Rice Pilaf, and they were delicious. And for dessert, I had Brownie Overboard, and it was mighty delicious. My server and waitress Claudia was attentive and super-friendly, and the food came out faster than I was expecting. Five stars for the food, service, and atmosphere altogether. My boyfriend and another couple ate here on our way to the newly built Hard Rock Casino. They wanted lobster so it was here or Kahill's which was a little more than we were looking to spend. Service here is attentive and the building is very clean with a pleasant atmosphere. Lobsters turned out to be almost as expensive as Kahill's so my boyfriend and his friend got the lobster "bakes". They had lobster tails and all entrees come with salad and limitless cheddar biscuits. The biscuits are sooooo good and we ordered several rounds. I had the tilapia fish tacos which were an inexpensive but tasty option. Overall it's what you expect from a red lobster. Higher end, fast casual dining. Would like to give this Red Lobster 5 stars. No can do! Here's why. Service was excellent. Place was very clean even the restroom. Server was polite, friendly although she had no suggestions. I ordered the seaman's platter. My food came quickly so no problem with that. I have eaten in Red Lobster's in 4 different states and this is the only one that i give 4 stars to. Have ordered the sailors/seaman's platter in all 4 and always had to ask for a box because couldn't eat it all. At this place the portions were very small so no take home box. The price was higher than any other Red Lobster i've been to. I have been here several times to stop at the end of my working day to have a glass of wine. This was the first time to eat here. The food was very good, well prepared but it left me going home hungry. And their wine selection left a lot to be desired. I do plan on going back to try their lobster pizza. read more

The hostess, Sydney N.-I have her last name but won't post it, was easily one of the worst, most unprofessional, and disrespectful person I have come across. An older man and woman were making comments about my 11 year old daughter having acne and her braid coming undone. My sister asked them to stop but they just made the same insults about my daughter's hair and skin louder and louder. I went over to them to ask them to stop and told them they should be ashamed for making fun of acne that my 11 year old is already self conscious of. Their comments got worse after that.I asked Sydney to please have a manager come speak with me-she didn't get the manager. My husband confronted them when he arrived. The hostess, Sydney N., was laughing at the comments made about my daughter and proceeded to tell me that taking the couple's picture was illegal. I asked her to please show me the law that says that is illegal. She laughed then said "I just work here." I told her to not offer legal advice then. I ordered online with a 15% discount code. They over cooked all the seafood. Overdone lobster tail isn't a delight! No only this they forget an item on my order. We live all the way across town so no way was I going back for that item. After 3 attempts to get in touch with a manager and being transferred to a bar that didn't answer and the system hanging up on me each time. The young girl there finally gets a manager to get on the phone. Or so he says. He takes down all my info and says he will mail out a gift card to compensate. I'm fine with that. That was on a friday. By Thursday of next week I call back because the gift card wasn't received. The guy who answers the phone says he couldn't get ahold of the managers because they were ''really busy'' so he takes down my info and says he'll have them personally call me. They don't. I'm only upset because they lied! I don't go there to give them free money. That's stealing. And if they say they are going to do something then do it. The managers there are a bunch of DOPES! My mother likes to give us Darden gift certificates for anniversaries and birthdays so we found ourselves using one today at this Red Lobster. Normally I am not a fan of chain restaurants, but we had the gift certificates so decided to give this place a try. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a super nice hostess who promptly sat us and didn't even get offended when I asked for a less traffic area after she had gone to the trouble to ready a table for the five of us. Immediately upon being seated we had the great pleasure of having Troy as our server and he was ready to roll. He brought us some yummy biscuits (which was appreciated as my 3 kids of course thought they were starving to death) straight away. Soon after we ordered, our salads (simple but delicious) were delivered and in perfect timing our main courses arrived. They were hot, very generously portioned and super fresh and great tasting. After we had had several bites the manager stopped by to make sure all was well. He was extremely nice and personable and mentioned how we must try the chocolate wave cake (more about that later). During our whole meal Troy was super attentive (without being annoying) and brought us what we needed without us having to ask for every little thing. He was very kind to my children who as per normal for kids were not always on their best behavior. You could tell he was/is a super hard worker cuz he always hustled to get our stuff in a timely manner. Lastly, my kids talked (ok they didn't have to try too hard) me into dessert. We did in fact have the chocolate wave cake and we also had the chocolate chip cookie lava thing. Both were very good...my daughter and my son both asked me if I would be offended if they said this was the best chocolate cake they've ever had (I bake a lot)! For those of you who may wonder if I know what good-quality food is....I do. I've been to some of the best restaurants throughout the entire United States. i cannot say enough great things about Red Lobster, its the BEST. food is always delicious, short wait times, excellent service, reasonably priced. you can go in shorts and a tank top or dress up for the evening. it doesn't matter.
