The fillet steak was perfectly cooked and a great cut, it was served with plenty of good chips. There is plenty of parking at the side of the pub. I look forward to another visit.

Took ages for us to get drinks and menus. When the food came, I had the goats cheese balls which were fine but had no seasoning at all. The other half made the same comment about the vegetable soup. Two of us had the beef and yorkshire pudding, which tasted ok but the meat was really tough. The knives we had were blunt. The broccoli was undercooked and the parsnips and carrots way over. Yorkshire puddings unremarkable. Also it came served with mash and roast potatoes, which was a bit strange. The other two had the corn fed chicken which they liked. Puddings: the ice cream came with 6 different toppings, which you served yourself; nice touch. The sticky toffee pudding was demolished. Not a word of thanks or enquiry about the food when we left. Very odd; like they didn't really care, which was certainly the impression you got in general from the service. Will not return.

I had a starter of calves' liver with black pudding and tarragon mustard sauce, with a main of rare roe deer fillet. The wine list was good. Desserts were very nice, too, although my only complaint is that the cheese was far too chilled when they served it. Not a big deal, I let it sit a while. Starters in the £8 neighbourhood, and mains around £17-£20. It feels like the sort of place that celebrities hang out in when they're in the country. I'm told Kate Winslet had her wedding reception here: that feels about right. The posters indicate they get live music in from time to time as well.

The pub is a nice country pub, from memory I can't recall if it has a log fire but it certainly has that feel to it. It has a nice area to sit out at the back and there is a bar area as well as a more formal seating area for dining. Also in the garden there is a small playground area which could do with a bit of love, the only thing stopping it getting 5 stars. The food itself has been excellent both times we've eaten there. Once for a roast and once for a more traditional pub lunch. The landlady remembered our whole order including drinks without writing it down, she tells me her record is 16 - without getting it wrong! It has a good selection of lagers, ales and ciders. I can't comment on the wine as I've never tried it. Oh and I'd book for meals as we took the last table when we went - always the sign of a good place.

Staff is consistently extremely welcoming and accommodating to myself and my family, which makes coming to The Chequers a must-do. This past trip in was especially memorable as the manager dealt with my questions about the rib eye sauce as well as graciously parting with a Cotswold Brewery pint glass. So, wether you're visiting from somewhere in England or from across the pond like myself, take the time to go eat and drink at The Chequers, you will not be disappointed.

I asked if they'd be open to answer the phone later and he shouted 'the pub is open all day I'm very busy' and hung up on me! So won't be dining there then. Sorry, but first impressions really matter - if you're too busy to answer the phone (the only way to book) then DON'T or implement a different method of booking tables. Don't recommend it, they were horrible and obviously too busy to be bothered.

The pub was amazing and quirky. It was all of different levels with the restaurant being an extension out the back. The pub had the log fire going with antiques all around - even some quirky games too! The allowed dogs inside the pub and in the beer garden. The garden was lovely not massive but a good sun trap. Warning there isn't much parking either and had to park on the side of the road. Reasonable prices and great atmosphere I will surely be back
