The customer base is an eclectic mix of old man and student, set in a cosy but slightly cramped space. The pub has a selection of Greene King draught with the usual array of lagers and serves a weird-but-wonderful array of snacks such as Mini Eggs(!) The place never gets properly packed, but it does get toasty warm when busy. Also, if you're a strapping young lad, you may end up with a mystery admirer putting money behind the bar for you, as happened to one of my friends. He never did say what happened when he went to the loo. I have to say though, once you've been to The Fir Tree once, you're very likely to go back.

Thankfully going in proved to be a good idea. A good range of regularly changing ales was on offer, the place has bags of personality with all of the varied town- and beer-related items hung around the walls, it serves very good homemade pizza and is not bad for watching televised football in.

There's also a second floor with additional seating and bar games if downstairs is too packed. We were traveling with children, including a toddler in a stroller, and had zero issues with the kids inside. (They weren't loud and didn't make a mess so that may have helped) Food on offer is traditional pub food, and everything I tried was fantastic. Service was always quick and friendly. Zero complaints. The Plough Inn is perfectly located for people watching, so swing by for a drink, take a beat, and watch everyone else rush by the windows.

Very nice traditional freehold pub with a range of real ales and ciders. Mick and Wendy are very friendly hosts, recently took over as landlord and landlady and seem to have good ideas for the place. I would recommend it to others and look forward to seeing how they progress. A point to note is they have extended their opening hours beyond those kept by the previous keepers, the cider prevents me from remembering exact details but they are open every day and all day long Friday to Sunday I think! In essence this is a pub like pubs should be. The closing time is open to negotiation, you may be kept waiting at the bar while the landlord finishes his game of darts, there will probably be a dog or two wandering around the bar area - yours will be welcome too, if it is cold there will be a fire lit and if you come more than once then people will make the effort to remember your name. It's a welcome change from a Greene King, Weatherspoons et al.

Set in a very nice little place in Headington Quarry, opposite the church where C.S. Lewis is buried, but still ideally located for anyone living in Headington. It is also very well situated for any visitors, with it being straight down Gladstone Road where the major buses drop-off. The place itself is small, but the layout is great and there is a huge garden with nice decking. There is also a separate function room, which hosts the biannual Headington Beer Festivals, organised by the operators of the pub. The pub boasts a fantastic selection of real ales, with Bitter & Twisted usually on offer along with 5/6 others. The pub is also home to The Old Bog Brewery, and you can buy their beer to take away in mini-kegs etc. It is really nice. The owners are really great and the staff are always extremely polite, friendly and welcoming. There are several clubs and societies which frequent the pub during the week, playing obscure card and table games, which is always a curiosity, and there is also some kind of billiard table which is unfamiliar to me. It shows sky football, but I tend to avoid pubs when this is on. Overall, if you visit here, then you will not be disappointed. If you live in the area then you really should check it out. Bordered by the Thames River on one side and a somewhat busy road (for the area) on another, The Rose Revived Inn's riverside dining atmosphere is pleasant, pretty even, though I was underwhelmed by the meals I ate here. Still, with little competition in the immediate area it's easy to see why they remain a draw. Most who dine here won't also be staying the night but I did. The room was clean and nice enough though very small. Air circulation was unmanageable as the window proved quite difficult to open and the location of a provided fan was inadequate in helping to move the air around in a satisfactory manner. There's not a whole lot of choice in this area, for either lodging or dining and, as a result, I'd call everything provided by the Rose Revived Inn "good enough".
