We arrived on a wet and dreary bank holiday Monday, seeking warmth from the campsite. The pub decor was lovely, and as expected it was fairly busy. However, you did not feel packed in as it had an airy feel to it. I am sure it is even nicer on a sunny day as they have a riverside position.
This is more a food pub than a drinking one, with lots of families and even dogs allowed ( we had 2 with us!). I resist the temptation to call it a gastro-pub tho' - it was standard pub grub including the normal standard fare of Indian and Asian meals (why do they do that???) but with lot of tables.
Anyway, there were 7 of us and we found a table easily enough to accommodate us. We all skipped starters and went for mains. I opted for a smoked salmon and king prawn salad. The salmon was nice but the prawns were definitely not king size and were very bland :(. Other food included lasagne, deep fried halloumi and a chicken with Asian noodles with sides of chips. Chips were ok but not amazing. However, perhaps I am picky cos my friends all enjoyed their meals.
I decided not to opt for dessert (I wanted to avoid disappointment) but those that had enjoyed them. Instead I had a floater coffee, which bamboozled the staff as they had not made an alcohol free one before :)
The service was good ( they warned us of the wait and so we were prepared) .
Having said the above, the food was good for the price and I have a feeling that we will be back later in the week.
UPDATE 3 days later
And so as predicted we returnd. Oh how I wish we had not!!!! The steaks were overdone, the wait was interminable, they forgot some of our order and I got only 5 chips! Truly appalling and a real shame as it was the last eveving of our holiday :( read more
