Then one of our party members went in and saw the drinks had been left on the side (ice had melted in the glass) so we can only assume, they had been there a while and we had to carry them out. As it was hot we brushed this incident off and within another 10 minutes we were shown to our table. Whilst getting our carvery, we was told we could only go up once (understandably). My peer may have got the last scoop of greens and we was told there was no more - until I sat down, I saw that a whole tray had just been brought out and I was refused to be able to get some as I had sat down. With one of the kids order, it was unsatisfactory - We found a peel off sticker in her food. Which as 4 adults looking at it, we were gobsmacked. This could have been a potentially serious choking hazard as you could imagine. The final issue of this was, we felt as we was rushed to eat, and when one of the servers collected our plates we asked for the dessert menus and we would be back in. As it was hot we took the kids out the front to get a little bit of fresh air and a breeze; and within a short while we was brought our bill outside to the table. Considering we had only been at Merry Miller for 45 mins and had stated we will be back in to order desserts. As a group we understand this is one of your busiest days but to encounter this service, I find absolutely shocking. I emailed them and still have not heard anything back.

The Merry Miller is technically a pub restaurant, although it's more of a restaurant than a pub…read more It's open for lunch and dinner everyday, and quite popular with office workers who want to get out of the office at lunch time. The menu is interesting, the food is good and the portions are generous. If you order side dishes you may well find that you can't finish your meal. The service is OK as well. There's free wireless access, so it can be used for business meetings, and free parking. It's a reasonable place to take visiting friends and relatives :)

They have brilliant, brilliant food. Definitely a special occasion-type place. We stayed at a nearby B&B (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/234858-Larchdown-Farm-Reading) that recommended we have dinner here. It's a nice old pub with two small rooms and one larger one. There's no room just for drinks, now, as they do a roaring business in lunches and dinners, it seems. It was very dim and romantic on the night I was there (which suited me fine). The menu is extensive. There's lots of choice, and a lot of game, too. The service was top-notch, efficient but quiet. The menu on their website is representative, but not exact. I had a starter of calves' liver with black pudding and tarragon mustard sauce, with a main of rare roe deer fillet. The wine list was good. Desserts were very nice, too, although my only complaint is that the cheese was far too chilled when they served it. Not a big deal, I let it sit a while. Starters in the £8 neighbourhood, and mains around £17-£20. It feels like the sort of place that celebrities hang out in when they're in the country. I'm told Kate Winslet had her wedding reception here: that feels about right. The posters indicate they get live music in from time to time as well.
