Lobby bar at the Hyatt was decent! It's nice & open the minute you walk in. It was super busy from a conference so I can understand slower service. The Sauv Blanc was nasty and no one asked me about it or bothered to change it out after not drinking any of it. Was served up the French Onion dip. The chips that came with it were delicious. It has been a while since I've had a very good breakfast?! Red Kitchen certainly made an impression with the perfectly cooked free range eggs, breakfast potatoes with bell peppers & grilled cut of "real" ham. High quality ingredients & freshness is what makes the difference with Red Kitchen. I even notice the difference in the iced tea. I had to ask my serve what brand it was because it was very flavorful. Tazo tea she replied & I immediately realized, this wasn't your average restaurant. Even the sugars offered are above average with the choice of organic white or organic raw. It's all about the little details that made my dining experience very memorable! My son ordered the Belgium Waffle with fruit topping on the side & chocolate milk. My son was wowed by the chocolate milk presentation. Even the chocolate milk is prepared fresh & not poured out of a container, per our server. I've never seen my son eat so fast & it was a good indicator, he was his enjoying his dining experience! Such moments are priceless & are always remembered! A big recognition to the server & staff. Even other restaurant staff members ensured we & other customers were having a great dining experience. Such customer service team effort is what differentiates this restaurants from others! This is the Hyatt Regency breakfast restaurant. Currently they package everything to go though there are tons of tables if you wish to unpack it and eat in the restaurant area. There is no waitstaff though - you order at the bar. My breakfast was good - in taste. I got the Southern Hospitality Scramble with sausage, egg (they were able to accommodate egg white only), peppers and hash. Unfortunately it was swimming in sauce. There was so much sauce it bled through the to go container and wet the table. I tried to salvage the food by moving big pieces of it to the lid of the to go container and was able to eat a good amount that way. If you order this I recommend ordering it dry - no sauce. The next day I ordered the same thing - no sauce - and it was good....except half it was missing. I got no sausage at all today although everything else was still good. They open at 6 and have good coffee. Their orange juice is bottled only. Friendly lady at the bar taking orders and open to questions about the city too. read more

We were hungry and MapQuest the nearest breakfast buffet and low a behold tucked in behind Ruth Chris a wonderful Resturant full of fresh food from smoked Salmon with crates and cream cheese to oatmeal with all the nuts and berries to boot. After having an excellent dinner experience here in the past, when the beautiful wife and I saw that Red Kitchen was having an Easter brunch, we thought it would be a good bet (and having bottomless mimosas is always a plus). Sunday buffets are sometimes the undoing of places. And unfortunately, Red Kitchen didn't live up to my expectations. It wasn't horrible, but... Upon being seated, we were told our server would be with us shortly. After a bit of a wait, she showed up. Mimosas were ordered and we headed down to the buffet. Now, the buffet was set up a bit oddly -- breakfast items were between brunch/lunch items for instance. If there's such a thing as buffet feng shui, they are in dire need of a tuneup. It just felt weird. But as a semi-literate adult, I was able to add items to my plate and head back to the table. The food was OK -- Eggs Benedict (mostly overcooked, poached should be runny, but hey, they're making a dozen at a time, so I'll give them a break), French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, seafood (mostly disappointing - itty bitty crab legs, clams, oysters (not good), shrimp (only good part - fresh and big)). They had brunch/lunch options as well -- chicken breast, soups (corn chowder and clam chowder), three meats at the carving station (prime rib -- pretty good), a ham, and a lamb (this was probably the best thing they had, especially with the jalapeno mint sauce). Finally, there were desserts -- white and dark chocolate mousse (pretty good), a creme brulee cheesecake (way better in theory than application), and some other things that weren't sampled. The mimosas were made with Wycliff sparkling wine (which is a Gallo brand screw top sparkling wine, in case you're curious. It's fairly inexpensive, but gets decent reviews. Much to my disappointment, it has no relationship to Wyclef Jean nor John Wycliffe). Now, this is fine (hey, it's not like they're going to make it with Dom), BUT the mimosa filling up frequency was less than ideal. We saw plenty of servers walking around with pitchers of juice and a bottle of Wycliff, but only when giving the "FILL US UP NOW" death stare did we get service. And it wasn't really that busy. If they had just dedicated one or two servers to do the refills, they would have been fine. Finally, while we were taking a bit of a digestion break, our server came over with our check ("take your time"). Damn right we will. We had only been there for about 45 minutes. It was a wee bit odd (and threw me off - I initially filled out the hotel guest version of the bill where you can charge it to a room. Yes, tempting, but I'm an honest egg. Mostly). So, finally, the price. For the quality of the food and the quality of the service, it felt a bit too expensive ($39.00 per adult). While this keep me from coming back to Red Kitchen for dinner and drinks? No, because it is really good. But would I go back for another buffet? Very doubtful. read more

My friend and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency recently and decided to grab drinks and a light snack from the bar. Our experience can be described as lackluster, at best. When we entered the bar, we were rushed by the bartender to order quickly because he expected the bar to be packed within the next ten minutes by concert goers. I guess, to him, concert goers were more important than hotel patrons. To drink, we ordered a Long Island iced tea and a strawberry mojito. The Long Island iced tea was watered down. The strawberries and mint leaves were not muddled enough for the mojito. The bartender just threw in sliced strawberries and mint leaves into a glass of gum and club soda. To snack, we ordered the charcuterie plate and tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. Both were not memorable and I even found a strand of hair in the salsa. If you are considering getting a drink at this bar, I suggest you pass and grab one from the other restaurants in the lobby. read more

The wait staff was still excellent and the food good, w/ basically the same menu items: 2 kinds of eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, and a variety of grains, cereal, etc. still overpriced, but still one of the better breakfast places in the area. Staying at the Hyatt I ordered room service from here for dinner and breakfast. The restaurant itself looked very trendy and typically would have enjoyed hanging out there for my meal, but I unusually tired so I opted for room service. My dinner was the baby kale and bibb lettuce salad with chicken. The salad was very fresh and perfect after a long drive. The dressing was a little creamier than I would have liked, but I got it on the side so it wasn't much of an issue. I would definitely add some sort of protein to the salad otherwise it just isn't enough food. Breakfast was the Vegetable Egg White Frittata, and it was amazing! It comes with a side of toast but I opted for a side of fruit instead. The frittata was flavorful and had the perfect amount of cheese and veggies. I didn't order the coffee so I couldn't comment on that, but there is a Starbucks downstairs if you are a picky coffee drinker ;) Overall, not bad for hotel food! I am staying at the Hyatt Regency Arch and wanted a decent breakfast. My friend and I headed down to the restaurant for the buffet. At first sight it looked decent. I've seen better from other hotel restaurants but this wasn't bad. I was totally wrong...it was awful! The coffee was undrinkable...way too strong. Very bitter with a burnt taste. The potatoes were mush from sitting in their own steam. They were also very oily. The eggs were dry but the brisket mixed in was actually good. The sausage had no flavor and I tried both the regular and the chicken sausage. The bacon was good. It was crispy and thick. It wasn't the worst breakfast I have ever had but for $25 I expected more. read more

Let me start by saying that it gets three stars only because of the price. Otherwise it would be a four-star place and I would be a fan. It's in the Hyatt lobby, tastefully decorated with a very attentive staff. My friend and I both had the lunch buffet, which includes salads, breads, two soups, and a make-your-own pasta bar. The pasta bar gives you four noodle options and four basic sauce options. I opted for spinach tortellini pasta and the surprisingly spicy tomato basil sauce. Then you fill a bowl with your choice of veggies, dump it off at the chef station, and they bring it to you when it's ready. The options included chicken, ham, meatballs, sausage, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach...I'm sure I'm missing something, but you get the point. Then the salad bar: Three types of greens, and then wonderful fresh veggies - sliced tomatoes in a vinaigrette, cold grilled squash slices (two kinds), mixed pitted olives, crunchy green bean salad...you get the point. Not your typical salad bar. Plus several kinds of fresh breads (three kinds of butter), and two soups - today's were tomato bisque and cream of broccoli. (We tried neither.) All salad items were delicious. The pasta was tasty and cooked properly, the fixings were all fine. I could have done a better job putting together the sauce & toppings, I think, but I liked what I got. And there were several desserts as well, including a three-layer chocolate cheesecake thing, something chocolatey with raspberry, tiramisu, and carrot cake. As I said above, it's too pricey at $12.95/person no drink included. If it were a few dollars less I would make this a regular stop on my lunch rotation. But if you're looking to treat yourself and you have a few extra bucks, give it a try. read more

When I pull up to a hotel with the intent of checking out its bar, I have two expectations...drinks will be pricey and parking scarce. I generally overlook these things right of the bat. Red Kitchen and Bar in the Hyatt refused to let me do this. In fact, it mocked me and dared me to bring it on. When you pay MORE for parking then you did for your drinks...that is f'ed up! Since I refused to eat anything there and increase the size of the small loan needed just to be in the joint, my friends eat for me...lack luster at best. Salad was typical, pizza was dry and Red Kitchen charged a premium for it. I had two beers and I tipped since it wasn't server's fault that Red is so idiotic. I go to get my car and my "tab" was $25! For parking for 3 hours! WTF? NEVER AGAIN! I will never go back to Red Kitchen and Bar. Not only is the food ordinary, the feeling of being legally robbed was infuriating. read more

Nice bar and grill located in the Hyatt Regency. Grabbed a drink here, so I can't comment on the food. The bar is modern and quite large, as it is part of the lobby of the hotel. A large bar along with lots of large leather chairs and coffee tables so that you and your group can sit back and relax. Downside is that the drinks are pretty pricey. Nice atmosphere, but you are just sitting in part of the hotel lobby. read more

Red Kitchen buffet: you get a selection of pasta (choose your own pasta, sauce, toppings, etc.), soups, breads, compound butters, grilled and marinated veggies, salad and more. Oh, and the dessert bar. The dessert bar is fab. And since you won't have room for the dessert bar after the soup, salad, veggies (and olive tray!) and pasta, ask them for a to-go box - they're happy to provide it and then you've got an afternoon full of sugary goodness to power you through. (Or a treat for your significant other, maybe?) I like that whole wheat penne is one of the pasta options. I typically go for the healthier options (I reiterate typically) and this one makes perfect sense. One thing that bugs me about this place is that not all of the little shrimp in the make-your-own-pasta area are fully cleaned. Shrimp that aren't fully deveined bug me. Some people might not care... I do. One thing that makes this place awesome: The $3 discount if you work nearby! Also, they have a frequent diner card, so if you go six times, you get a free meal. (I just redeemed my free meal today, actually - so easy! They never brought a cancelled out check back, though, so I left a tip with my colleague's bill.) UPDATE 4/27/12: Not sure if the buffet is so longer available or they just never open it, but the last three times we've walked over, it wasn't an option, so we left. Bummer. So I have to say that this was the weirdest breakfast experience EVER! The servers all morning were asking everyone if they were "alone" and it was really awkward cause it felt like they were asking every 2 minutes to they could take the additional silverware off the table. The food is great, but the service totally killed the experience! Everyone staying seems to be on a group so it is weird that they pressure you to say your eating alone just to clear the silverware. :-( thumbs down in my book. I already have a hard time getting to any ANY restaurant by myself so them "pointing it out" really didn't help...leave the silverware on the table....seriously. With some observation, it seems that the "manager" was possibly on the servers to get the "extra" stuff off the table so this could have been the reason, however I was there 4 mornings and didn't receive great service. I have been a server in the past which does make me jaded about the service that I expect, and each time that I came the service felt awkward. Especially in the morning, I don't want to be asked time and time again if more people are coming....just bring me COFFEE/TEA....maybe juice and if I get the buffet let me be...it is weird for me to eat alone....really....:) The Food: The breakfast was rather expensive, but the buffet had a great selection and if you have ever had steel cut oats - you know the worth of that being offered. Not at all impressed. The pasta was fine but really nothing special. The noodles were undercooked. The alfredo sauce was more like alfredo soup, it didn't really coat the noodles at all it just sat at the bottom of the bowl. My salad was good but that's because I made it. Yes they had good ingredients at the salad bar but that is not enough to warrant high marks. The tomato bisque was boring and too sweet. And the little bowl that you're supposed to put the pasta toppings in was way too tiny. The staff is clearly trying very hard (our drinks didn't arrive until the end of our meal, but throughout the meal they were falling all over themselves apologizing for the delay and then gave us a discount on them at the end) but they just don't quite make it. Basic things like water were not taken care of, and we the waiter was nowhere to be found on several occasions when we needed him. All in all a very meh experience. Brand new restaurant, located in the Hyatt - downtown St. Louis. I had the opportunity to eat there during the All Stars, so nobody was in the restaurant. I had service alllll to myself. ;-) The staff was super nice. Loved chatting with the girls. They have a mini "Color of Benetton" going on. One waitress was from Brazil, another from France and a third from Indonesia. Very interesting conversations. They have different food all the time. Menu changes. Some times they have a pasta bar. This is my favorite meal option at the Hyatt. They have really great people working- positive, friendly, efficient, and attentive. I appreciated the express lunch for $9.95- what a great deal. You can go serve yourself soup (I LOVED the tomato bisque!!!) and they have rolls and butter as well as a small salad bar and dressings that are included with the express lunch. Then you get half a sandwich and they bring that to your table. My husband and I both had the egg salad sandwich which was pretty good. A soda is also included with your meal. I think the unlimited soup and salad is worth the $9.95 on its own! I went back tonight to order a bowl of chicken noodle soup to take to eat in my room and it is a huge container of hot soup with a lot of curly noodles, big pieces of grilled chicken, green onions, carrots, celery, a few matzo balls (I think- I didn't really like them that much) and these big "kreplach" which are like dough balls with meat in them (I don't think it was chicken but those were tasty once I realized there was something inside) in a nice and hot broth. It was $10 for a bowl but I understand why- it's a big portion and a hearty soup- very good. I appreciated that they had me go sit in a big cushy chair in the bar/lounge area while I waited for my soup to be ready to go, and even offered me a glass of water. I wasn't given a soup spoon to go- just regular utensils with a regular size spoon but that's a small thing. It was nice that they didn't give plastic utensils but real silverware and cloth napkins. I remember being tempted by Red's menu for Downtown Restaurant Week, but ended up dining at Copia instead. I still really wanted to try this place and luckily, had a lunch meeting planned there not long after! The service was amazing, but we actually didn't need much since the option we chose was more or less, self serve. As for atmosphere, you are in a hotel, however, it does feel like a fancier restaurant. Dimly lit with a lot of red accents makes for a perfect business lunch location. Now for the food! You pick a pasta (I had spinach tortellini) and then a sauce (I mixed the tomato basil with the pesto) and then go to a buffet of topping options. I opted for chicken and asparagus, though everything looked tasty. They had ham, artichoke hearts, beets, carrots, shrimp....etc. While they cook it all together, we got a salad and soup. Again, they had a ton of options for salad toppings which I love. They even had some tasty grilled veggies for a side. They displayed an assortment of breads and butters, and the soup of the day was broccoli chedder (my fav!). The Italian dressing on my salad wasn't the best I've ever had and I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it was a little creamier than I like. I also may have put a strange combo of salad toppings to create a strange flavor, but in any case, it was still eaten! Our food came out quickly, within 10 minutes, and was divine. Soft cheese filled tortellini's, tasty chicken and asparagus slathered in a really flavorful pesto/tomato sauce. It wasn't too oily and had the perfect amount of saltiness to it. I didn't want to stop eating! For dessert, they have a large table of assorted desserts like cupcakes, chocolate cake, carrot cake, lemon cake...etc. I was in heaven. I ate here four times and stopped by the bar once after staying here a week. If it weren't for the fact that I was staying here and didn't have time to go else ware I would have not gone back. The seating process here is stupid. Twice I got stuck waiting behind multiple large groups of people that the hostess chit-chatted with while they set up their tables....all while there are plenty of seats that could accommodate lil' ol' me....yet I have to wait for all the big parties to get settled...didn't make sense to me each time it happened. The server also doesn't need to repeat to me the exact same thing the hostess just did...pick one or the other to say the spiel...not both. Breakfast 1 - I did not get the buffet. Just the usual two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. I got two pieces of small bacon and one small spoonful of potatoes. For $12.95 not only were the portions awkwardly small, but I should have just gotten the buffet for $15.95 (which includes drinks) and could have gotten the same thing in normal portions. Breakfast 2 - I got the buffet. The bill ended up being $22 for one person. The food and coffee is not worth the $22...if you have time to walk somewhere else I suggest you do so. Dinner 1 and 2 - Both to go orders...both I had to wait 20 minutes for and both ended up being incorrect once I got back up to my room. Again, wasn't worth the price. All in all it gets the job done and the bar is good, but unless you hit them during the happy hour specials or you aren't paying then you're going to be disappointed. read more

The staff will not know how to print one and it will turn into a veritable circus. Instead, they will give you another signature copy or an unitemized receipt or make you a photocopy of their one-and-only itemized receipt, accompanied by excuses, and hope that you'll go away. holy cow--this place is a keeper. wish we had one in california! $9.95 pasta bar--it's like mongolian bbq, but with pasta--you pick the stuff (good stuff) want in the pasta, and they cook it up with sauce of your choice. while pasta's cooking, you amble over to the bread/soup/salad bar--all well 'appointed' with good chow. sit down, eat soup,salad etc and they bring your custom pasta dish--really good! i guess you can go back for seconds, but i was short on time + full from all the food. not to mention--gotta save room for the desserts. not a huge dessert fan, although i am liking them more and more lately, but this stuff was all fresh and good. went to this place for lunch 4 out the 5 days i stayed the the hyatt regency it's located in--but would search it out even if i wasn't staying at the hotel. service was good & friendly too. st louis is a friendly place. yeah, i'll go back if i'm there again. read more
