Not a fan. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, he ordered a combo platter. The chicken was thin cut and fried to a crisp, very dry and hard to eat. We heard it was great Chinese food so we went there on our 35 wedding day May 1st. It was the worst we have had. The special chow Mien was so dry it had no flavor I would hate to see what the regular was like, the egg rolls were very over cooked the fried rice was so dry it was hard and had no flavor. Our drinks where about 7.00 ea I ordered a old fashioned. That did not come close . We also wanted to order another different drink but nobody came back. We took the leftovers home but threw them out. They say they cook everything fresh they must wait to serve it a few days later. read more

I live in NYC but am visiting my parents in Spokane. My dad ALWAYS wants to go to Chinese restaurants for his birthday and we basically have a choice of a dozen in the city. They live in Hillyard and my dad was wanting to go try Red Dragon but my mom was extremely apprehensive since, well, Hillyard isn't know for great restaurant experiences. We drove up and I knew it would be cool as soon as I looked at the place through the large front windows (the images currently on Google Maps is from an old bar). I was actually REALLY impressed with the place. The portions were HUGE and the staff was nice. The decor was a trip for me: I didn't feel like I was in Hillyard or Spokane for that matter... I felt like I was at a restaurant in Chelsea or the East Village. Oh - and the prices were insanely great! Most menu items ran between $7-$15; there is enough tasty food that you will be walking away full and with a doggy bag. I hope more good businesses and restaurants take advantage of the extremely cheap cost to locate their businesses to the North Market district. Some oft he neighborhood businesses HAVE TO GO but places like Red Dragon are a complete break from Spokane. Red Dragon has a great Hillyard vibe, welcoming staff, and great food. I'm not going to say it's authentic Chinese--I've never been there, I don't know--but I will say it's American West Coast Chinatown* authentic, which is what most people in the area will be looking for. Their food isn't all brown on brown: fresh veggies abound, dishes are actually spicy, and flavors are distinctive. Beyond the food (which is even better when my favorite cook, whose name--I think--is Carlos, is working on the line), I just love the cool, unpretentious atmosphere. Everyone on staff is a bit of a character, the diners are a mix of Hillayard regulars, Northsiders, and a few random hipster types lurking in corners. I'm there for the reason the hipsters are, because this is such a quintessentially North Spokane scene and I adore it. To top it all off, Red Dragon is great value for your dollar, we're always feeding 4 people for less than $40. Man, I almost don't want to post this review. If you do come to Red Dragon, try not to ruin the vibe. *I lay claim to knowing what authentic Chinatown food is. read more

This little restaurant is located in Hillyard - an older part of Spokane undergoing some renewal. It is a small restaurant, but nicely decorated, and inviting. More importantly, the food is well prepared and delicious. Everything I have ordered has been better than anticipated, with a fairly complete menu, including a vegetarian menu. They can also make any of their dishes without meat. The servings are huge, and we always have enough left over to take home. The service was impeccable - although the bartender was the only one waiting tables at the time we were there. She was outstanding - and very accommodating. This included deducting one half the price of my Orange Chicken, because it wasn't spicy enough - and she did it without my asking, and without any expectation that she would voluntarily do it. This was even after she offered to have the cook prepare it again, and I told her it wasn't necessary. As with any small restaurant, a lot depends on who is cooking that day. We ordered for the 1st time yesterday after hearing good reviews from local friends. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour pork. The chicken was so dry and the sauce was too sweet it made me feel ill right away. It was more like red syrup. My boyfriends pork was all fat and bone he barely ate it. We tossed it out and pretty much wasted 50 bucks. We were looking forward to a decent chinese place, but we were very let down. Still looking for a decent place in Spokane! Ugh. read more

I've been a regular at Red Dragon for years, since it was back on Francis and I love it. I think I often take how good it is for granted, because it's pretty much the only Chinese food I eat, but I'm always reminded how great it is when I recommend it to someone and the rave out about how good it is. So of course I arrived late into Spocompton and there wasn't many options for food and I yelped for chines and this gem of a spot showed up that they were open for 14 more minutes . I proceeded to call and ask if we could order to go and we would be there in 10 min to pick up. The lady on the end of the line was so kind and helpful . Said no problem ! After arriving I could see they were diligently working on making our order and man was it phenomenal . Now being from Portlandia and being use to some of the best food in the country, I was really surprised by their fantastic flavorful food. The combo fried rice was full of chicken, pork and shrimp and I "loved" the homemade hot and sour soup! The Szechuan chicken was also very tasty along with the wonton soup. Today was our first time at Red Dragon. We managed to get a parking spot right in front, so I didn't have to trek very far through the snow at all. We see a 'Please seat yourself' sign when we walk in, but the only options we could see at first were a booth that looked to seat about 6 (there were only 2 of us) or the bar. As I went to take a seat at the bar, we did see additional booths in a back portion, all empty. I was wary, thinking that this was where customers might be overlooked, but as it turned out it was in a direct path from the kitchen. Our waitress greeted us after we'd chosen a booth & took our drink orders (ice waters) while leaving the menus. The menu is extensive, but by the time she returned with our waters, we'd both decided on having the 'Pick 3' for $8.50. My husband chose the Almond Chicken, Honey Wine Chicken, & steamed rice. I chose the Special Chow Mein (for an additional $1.50), Sweet and Sour Ribs, and Fried Rice - all no onions. I was pleasantly surprised when the waitress returned soon after taking our order with 2 cups of soup with a packet each of saltines. This soup was an egg-flower with mixed vegetables - lima beans, corn, carrots, peas, along with more traditional baby corn, water chestnuts, & cabbage. It was tasty. Soon after, our main course arrived. It was very quick, and very fresh. The fried rice at first looked like brown rice, but it was full of the salty, delicious flavor of fried rice. The ribs were topped with pineapple tidbits. My favorite was the chow mein, although it didn't contain all the meats it said it did in the menu - it was all chicken with one slice of BBQ pork. What it did have was a lot of stir-fried flavor & veggies: bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, zucchini, bean sprouts! My husband & I cleaned our plates, leaving only the bones from my ribs. He said the Almond Chicken was the crispiest he'd ever had. Let me start by saying that I do NOT like slimy American Chinese food. At all. Come to find out, this is not that kind of place. We had a full dinner for two so we got to try the wonton soup, BBQ pork, the egg/spring rolls, almond chicken, fried rice, teriyaki chicken and beef stir fry. On the downside, the fried rice was totally unremarkable (where were the peas and carrots? :) ) and the beef stir fry was just okay. On the upside, though, everything else was totally amazing, including the service. The Almond Chicken was SO EFFING GOOD!!!! omg. And the spring roll was house made (not the frozen kind you so often see) and was literally the best fried food I've ever had. I think they make the almond chicken with crack because I wanted it again the next day and the next. Unfortunately it doesn't reheat as well as one would hope, but if you get it all in you at the restaurant, I encourage you to do so, because it's so amazing. For a non chinese food fan, if I'm ever back in Spokane, I'll definitely revisit the Red Dragon. yummers! read more

I was so looking forward to trying this place out after all the positive reviews, but I was very disappointed. We got take out and the food was horrible. The shrimp had a very strong fishy odor leaving me to believe they were past their prime and the sauces were bland. If you look past the food, everything else was great. The waitstaff were very nice and the atmosphere was really wonderful. I just want to like this place so badly. I am willing to give it another shot, next time dining in. Made me sick. I love Chinese food and have a cast-iron stomach, but the delivery I ordered last night hit me like a freight train. First of all, literally half of my main dish was hot peppers; I counted 22, so that was all I could taste, but I was hungry so I ate about half of my meal anyways; the chicken was poor quality, grisly bits and I should have known there was something wrong with the dish. I never write on Yelp But I felt the need to after seeing how dirty this place was. All I have to say is that this place of super dirty and the staff is super messy, I went here with a couple of coworkers, And we were all extremely unhappy we'd never walked out of a restaurant in fear that we will going to get sick from the dirtiness. Homeless people asking for money as we walked into the restaurant was extremely nice NOT - 1st the building itself looks like a dirty run down crack house ,we should have realize it was going to be filthy inside as well after seeing the outside of the building. But we tired not to judge a book by its cover . The waiter came over he was very polite and very nice,( besides the huge SNOT he had coming out of his nose) We all said a prayer hoping the snot wouldn't fall in our food and We ordered a couple of the appetizers and drinks and sat there and waited for a good 20 minutes for them . The waiter comes over with our drinks and apps , (Still with the SNOT in his nose) thank god not in our food at least with dirty hands like General soul sauce all over his hands , We all had sauce fingerprints on our cups and sauce fingerprints on the appetizer plate yuck! Made us think that he was using his hands to mix the food in the back and then touching our drinks and our appetizer plates absolutely disgusting , When I went to the restroom, walked pasted the kitchen it was so dirty and messy it was like a dirty zoo , Silverware on the floor, food all over the place chefs using their hands coughing all over . absolutely disgusting I had enough- The bathroom was absolutely filthy- I couldn't take any more at this point me and my coworkers were disgusted too! we ended up leaving in just having the apps and the drinks. The reason I'm writing this review is because of a recent negative review given by Brian B. While I have never had the BBQ Pork (because I'm not a fan of barbeque), I've had the following: Sweet & Sour Chicken Egg Fu Yung Pork Celery Chow Mein Crab Wontons Egg Rolls Fried Rice The only reason I've not tried the others is simply because my selection is delicious! Great little restaurant tucked away in Hillyard. The food is very good. Super friendly staff & the customers to. Ive been a regular there for a few years and eat there almost once a week. I love their hot n sour soup especially when it's made by Carlos who is an awesome cook! Also my favorite is the Kung poa chicken if you like spicy dishes. Went to go pick up 2 small plates of food and was told by their online delivery system that it would be half an hour. After 1 hour and asking where my food was I was finally able to get it. I watched them hand out about 6 other orders in that extra half an hour to people that pulled up and it was ready for those customers instantly. At about 45 minutes I asked the lady handing out orders what could take so long for two small plates and she asked me if we called in when we pulled up. I replied that we tried to repetitively and multiple times but the line was constantly "unavailable". First off. Serious props on having a vegan menu! Loved that I had several options as well as my non-veg companions. I ordered the Vegan Buddisht Delite as it sounded awesome. When I got my dish it was practically swimming in sauce. It kind of ruined the veggies and tofu for me. The thickness of the sauce wasn't something I was really a fan of at all. Wow.... worst time at Red Dragon ever. Our go-to comfort date night has been ruined by the worst service ever. Start with telling my wife you're switching the Coke out so it'll be a minute and you'll bring our soup at the same time. 15 minutes later Coke comes... 6 minutes after that soup (toxic green in color, I've been eating here for 10 years, your Egg Flower soup has always been clear) comes but we still don't have utensils which you say you'll be right back with... for 5 minutes I watched you serve others, ask if they needed anything, checked with everyone at the bar for what they needed, while we sat with soup getting cold and no way to eat it.... so we walked out. I own a new business near Red Dragon. I ordered food for the 1st time today thinking how great it is to have found a delivery service near the business. I ordered via their website and long story short I mistakenly ordered Mongolian beef instead of crispy beef. IN my defense heir website is clunky and not very clear. When my food arrived I cheerfully handed the driver a $20 bill for my meal and told him to keep the change despite a $3.00 delivery fee. I opened my meal and found Mongolian beef, and tried to eat it, however the meat was very slimy, rubbery and not very appetizing. I called and explained the situation and was told that they would not redo my order. I explained that I was a new business down the street and would be patronizing their establishment many times if they made it right. They still would not make it right even after I reminded them that losing a customer who yelps, and tells all their friends about their experiences wasn't worth the $3 food cost to make a replacement meal. She still would not make me a new order. This place seems to have lackluster food, at least the Mongolian beef was HORRIBLE. The customer service is a page out of some place off the kitchen nightmares tv show. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

So I don't know where you hail from in the world, but the US Army has taken me A LOT of places. In my many ventures I've NEVER ordered sweet and sour items that were fried, drenched in sweet and sour sauce, smothered with pineapple and left to soak. Where's my crispy tempura style delisciousness?! Why can't I have the honor of dipping my own chicken?! It produced a soggy "cherry cobbler" looking mess that was reminiscent of a microwaved dessert. It was a bigger mess than Monica Lewinsky's dress if that gives you any idea. The fried rice was about as gray as rice could realistically get without the aide of some sort of dye, so there's that. With the price tag of $25 I figured they'd be able to muster up a decent presentation of one Entree and a couple of egg rolls, but the only thing I was delivered was a ruined appetite. I don't write reviews, I'm not a "yelper". I find it produces fake food critics, but now I'm out 30 bucks for $5 quality slop and the only advice the restaraunt gave me was "order it differently next time". When my family first came here we loved it. As I am the only one with Celiac I haven't had Chinese food in forever. There are some great dishes here. Problem with that is the inconsistency of quality. I used to give 4 to 5 star ratings. Our past few experiences have us at a 2 nearly giving a 1 star. Weeks ago did take out. They quoted 20 minutes and when arrived for pick up took 30 minutes longer. Wife waited the whole 30 and not a single care was given to the extra wait. No drink offered, discount or even simple apology. To top it off our Special Chow Mein had an insanely spicy sauce added to it that shouldn't have been, making it inedible. So last night we call for delivery as we had a free chow Mein from previous incident and our order was terrible. Chow Mein had basically no flavor/sauce, our free soups that I confirmed with order taker were never brought and told would take over an hour to get when complaining. Also, we order Orange Chicken with sauce on the side as to keep the chicken crisp. It came with a bunch of random steamed vegetables that were all thrown together that immediately made the chicken a mushy consistency and gave us less chicken than usual. Large BBq pork was dry and 1/3 of the pieces burnt at the bottom. Nearly all puppy treats at this point. Super disappointed! Order taker messed up, cooks making poor quality food, staff that is hard pressed and under managed in my opinion. Even with a new $15 credit I cant say when we will be back again. Such a disaster. Go to Our Thai house on Hamilton if you want good food. Great Curry, Drunken noodles and more. Also, they do gluten free proper. Rant over. read more

I ordered to-go from them about a week and a half ago and was extremely pleased. I had almond chicken, white rice, soft noodles and what was supposed to be pork chow mein (but was chicken chow mein) and it was all delicious, also got BBQ pork. Also ordered the prawns. The portions were HUGE and really really good! We live way up on the South Hill and China South closed in fall of 2016, so have been craving Chinese for a long time. When I went to pick up the order, the place was absolutely immaculate with signs that read "No Masks, No Service, No Exceptions" which made me happy. I ate on that food for 3 days, no lie, that's how much there was. Will go again soon! read more
