This was my second visit to The Red Bloom Spa in downtown Bethesda. Last summer, I received a gift certificate for a birthday gift and because of my work schedule and other things, kept forgetting to use it. It was only good until next month, so earlier this year I finally used it. My previous review for this small staff business was rather glowing as I had a very nice experience there despite the power outage. Since I had a balance on my gift certificate, I told them I was looking forward to coming back for another visit. This time, I decided to try an hour long facial with Germaine (previously I had only a 30 minutes service because her schedule was really full). I saw so many glowing reviews of her treatments I was really looking forward to a longer service. Also, I really was looking forward to doing something nice for myself as I am still unemployed and working hard to find another job. This morning, I had an appointment for 11 am. Like many service businesses, this spa sends multiple email reminders and makes a phone call to "please be on time for your appointment." So, I got up early so I could do everything I had to do and be on time. I left about 55 minutes prior to my appointment to make sure I was on time as parking in Bethesda takes a while to find sometimes and I knew the traffic would be a problem due to all the construction going on in the area. I ended up being 20 minutes early, so arrived at 10:40 am for my 11 am appointment. About five minutes after that, Germaine calls and tells her assistant she will be 10 minutes late, so not arriving until about 11:10 am. I said "okay, the only issue is my parking as it's only a 2 hour space." I figured it would still work out if she was quick about setting up and getting settled for the service. Well, 11:10 am comes and goes and she is still not there, so I realized she would be more than 10 minutes behind. At this point, I was so annoyed that I realized I would not enjoy the service so I cancelled and left. I really have no patience for businesses who bother you with multiple reminders then don't respect your time and schedule. While Germaine did call me and apologize for being late, there was no offer to make up for it in any way. I did not like hearing her view that "the traffic is what it is" since I took that into consideration for my planning my morning so I would be on time. There's many choices for spa treatments in this area so I believe consistent experiences are essential to compete in a crowded marketplace. Will I go back? Maybe. But not for a long time. They didn't even remember me even though I was just there on March 2, and they told me I was the first customer (at that time) to offer Iman a tip. Give it a try since the facials are supposedly so good. Maybe your appointment will go smoother. read more

Red Bloom deserves infinity stars! I would like to begin my review with my experience of Red Blooms' most recent added services, ACUPUNCTURE! Nancy is the acupuncturist and she is fantastic! Her knowledge regarding the practice of alleviating aliments is invaluable. I no longer experience shoulder or wrist pain. I have improved blood circulation and even received an added benefit in improved strength in both hands! I thought I could only get stronger by using weights or bands. Go figure? I encourage you to see Nancy with your concerns. You will be well pleased and satisfied that you did! I guarantee it! In regards to my facial spa experience, of course Germaine is in a league of her own! First of all, Germaine uses high quality organic products which leave my skin feeling amazing. Germaine has her on signature techniques and massage during the facial which always puts me in a tranquil/peaceful state. Germaine's facials are really under priced compared to the quality of her services versus some of the well know franchises in DC/MD/VA. I have been a loyal customer of Germaine's since 2006! I have even added the massage (Robert) and manicure/pedicure (Julie) services to my list! They are both exceptional as well. The Red Bloom is a hidden gem in Bethesda - thank goodness I found it! My face was in desperate need of some serious attention because of extreme dryness and Germaine (the owner) knew exactly what to do. On my first visit I had booked a facial that was way too intense for my skin and Germaine immediately assessed my face and made recommendations. It's now four months later, and my skin is no longer thirsty and its overall appearance is much improved. There is now a plan in place to get it even brighter and pay some attention to some sun damage. She also gave me samples of products to try and they worked so well, I bought them all. This is a journey to smoother, brighter skin. It's not going to happen immediately and Germain is a great guide. She is also very reasonably priced for the area and takes pride in offering services with natural products - no chemicals on the skin. The Red Bloom Wellness Spa is among the best in the nation. Germaine and the other professionals are at the top of their game. 5 Star for sure. As someone who has traveled the world, lived in Europe and had treatments from Rome, Milan, Paris, Dubai and Switzerland...I am happy to have TRBWP 15 min away. Their services are superior, and I'm not an easy sell. Someone posted a comment about their cancellation policy and I would like to respond by saying...I know how you feel, but keep in mind that businesses operate to provide a service based on appointments which is based on time, so when you cancel at the last minute or without sufficient notice you deprive the owner from making money in that time slot. Believe me, I've had a few cancellation fees, not from TRBWP, but other businesses... and I know it does'nt feel good. As patrons we can do better to help owners so that they are there when we need them. read more

Germaine is the best kept secret in Bethesda. She gives an amazing facial along with a very relaxing shoulder, arm and hand massage. I have been plagued with acne since the age of 11 and been under the care of a dermatologist. I have tried everything under sun from prescription antibiotics to creams, peels and laser treatments. Now at age 44, I still suffer from adult acne but since I have been getting facials from Germaine regularly once a month, I am finally able to stay out of the dermatologist office. More importantly my skin is glowing and all thanks to Germaine and her incredible knowledge of skin. I have now been going to her for so long that she is able to customize my facial based upon my skins needs that particular visit. I can recall, during my first visit to this wellness spa; it was a chilly rainy day. Upon my arrival, the ambiance was very warm and relaxing and the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful to ensure that my needs were met. Robert was my massage therapist. He is very professional and courteous. He gave me a Swedish massage. He was excellent. The staff were nice. The place looks good.
