Their isaw is orange, which is prettier to look at (heheh), and they don't overcook the isaw like Mang Larry's often does. My street food of choice is isaw manok, and I haven't found another isawan that serves anything as good as what they have here. The stall directly next to it sells fishballs and kwek-kwek, so hanging out on that lawn with a mere fifty pesos will get you very far. Pair your street food with some refreshing buko juice, and you'll understand why this is a UP student's standard meal. It's not just cheap; it's actually really good! The stalls moved from the empty lot right across Law to the one next to it. The old location is now a parking lot, and while the new one allows several cars to park as well, the ground is much more uneven and rocky. Girls, leave your heels at home!

Price is very reasonable, spent less than 150pesos/person (drinks included). Don't expect too much from the food your eating. Sisig was a very thin layer of pork on top of a sizzling plate, at least it had an egg. Pork BBQ had a very good portion, good flavor and it was very soft. This place provides service water and unlimited hot soup for all its customers. Only issue why their not getting 5 stars is that their order counter is so slow. Place is on the noisier side, but good space between tables. A/C was ample to cool the place. Highly recommended if you're in the area and on a tight budget.

The grilled smell was very inviting and it tasted nice and sweet. Meat wasn't tough and the fat content was minimal. Beef Samgyupsal On-Stick, on the other hand, had more pieces of fat but it also tasted just as good. It would've been better if it had less fat and if the meat was cooked longer. Some parts were also harder to chew, like a string you almost couldn't pull hard enough to snap. I recommend preparing your own rice at home if it's for takeout or delivery, because theirs had bits of uncooked rice.

They had some COVID precautions in place so dining was not available. I think because of this they also have a limited menu - they did not have rice. Well, I grew up with take-out bbq and chicken from Aling Nene's. It was my parents' go-to place whenever the help were out and no one would cook at home. Just get two dozen bbq sticks and a whole roasted chicken chopped up (I grew up in a big family) and dinner would be served! I think I learned the word "taba" (fat) because of Aling Nene's bbq. The last piece on the stick would always be extra charred and fatty, and I attribute some of the flavor of the bbq to that fattiness oozing out on all the rest of the pork on the stick. This is also where I learned that eating taba was bad for you, because I would always eat the taba. But I was maybe 5 or 6, and they said I was still young so I could eat it. Twenty years later, I still eat the taba of anything. Thanks to habits formed from eating Aling Nene's bbq.

Parang I've never really found one that can compare to hers. Naks! But just a while ago, I think I found the second best barbeque in the world - Maya's Delicious Barbeque! A pretty straightforward and vain name, don't you think? But I think it's just apt. The barbeque WAS delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the one stick I had prior to actually getting my real lunch. If they were offering rice or if they just had chairs, I would've ordered 5 pieces of those magical grilled meat and thank the inihaw gods for opening my eyes to the wondrous creation of Maya. What makes Maya's barbeque truly delicious is the sweet-tangy marinade the meat is coated with. The barbeque is also super tender and because they grill it for a while before handing the stick to you, the meat isn't hard to bite on. I literally could have this anytime of the day! The great thing about Maya is that they actually allow bulk orders. So if you're looking for a legit barbeque caterer, I would recommend Maya. They also sell frozen barbeque so that's another option. They also sell Isaw (pork and chicken), Grilled Liempo and Chicken barbeque.

While waiting for my mom inside the car, I got hungry and saw this barbeque stand in the parking area. I ordered one stick of their barbeque just to try it out and ended up buying a dozen for our dinner that night. Just like how they branded their barbeques, it was indeed delicious. Sadly when Cherry Foodarama closed down and was replaced by S&R, Maya's Delicious Barbeque also had to relocate and I'm glad that they relocated somewhere still near my area. You can order a small or big one for less than 50 pesos per stick. I love that they intertwine the pork and fat in one stick. The marinade they use is superb and the pork is tender. If you're on the hunt for good barbeques, do drop by Pioneer Centers parking lot and get some Maya's.

Since I could remember, THE Aristocrat RESTAURANT has been a regular go-to eatery for my family…read moreduring most if not all visits to Manila, Philippines. Needless to say, during my November, 2024 vacation, I had to stop by here for a snack or meal which occurred on the evening of Wednesday, the 13th. Established in 1936, The Aristocrat is one of the oldest restaurants in Manila and historic landmark recognised by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines with a marker at this original location on Roxas Boulevard, recognizing its contribution to Philippine culinary history. An iconic spot famed for its homestyle Filipino delights like Lumpiang Shangahi (₱415), Crispy Pata (₱975), and Halo-halo (Blanco ₱160, Regular ₱180, and Specia l₱220), the long-loved brand has won the hearts of Filipinos across the country and is still a favourite up to this day. Situated in the vibrant Malate district, conveniently on Roxas Boulevard, the venue offers diners a picturesque view of Manila Bay, which adds to its charm. The place also has ample parking in the private lot and the interior design is clean and well-maintained. With the onsite bakeshop and store, bright lighting, and 24-hour service, The Aristocrat captures diner vibes while welcoming guests to a warm family-style setting with tables grouped together. Showcasing the best of Filipino culinary culture, the extensive menu at Aristocrat boasts bold, lively flavours served in satisfying portions. Signature dishes include the celebrated Chicken BBQ & Java Rice combination, widely considered "the best chicken barbecue in town," and the iconic Aristocrat Adobo Flying Saucer (₱190), a toasted, circular bread pocket filled with savoury chicken adobo. Each dish is thoughtfully presented and every bite serves as a rich celebration of Filipino cuisine. Below are some of what we ordered at my most recent visit: Fresh Lumpiang Ubod (₱175) - This was Uncle Bolo's order. He enjoyed the shredded ubod (heart of palm) sautéed with pork and shrimp, perfectly wrapped and generously poured with the savoury-sweet and thick peanut sauce topped with ground peanuts and fresh garlic. Crab & Corn Soup (₱98) - The thick, creamy broth filled with sweet corn kernels and shredded delicate crab meat was enjoyed for its warm, savoury flavor, mirroring traditional Filipino-Chinese comfort food. Fried Lumpiang Ubod (₱188) - I'm not a fan of lumpiang ubod, but those who ate this starter enjoyed the crispy texture of the eggroll, especially paired with the spiced vinegar. Gulaman at Sago (₱98) - The Filipino sweet, thirst-quenching iced beverage of gelatin cubes with chewy tapioca pearls in a brown sugar syrup was refreshing and beautiful in presentation. Kare Kare (₱925) - Each spoonful of this classic peanut-forward stew of beef and vegetables was full of flavour. Bistek Tagalog (₱450) - This classic, comforting rendition of the Filipino beef steak, featuring thinly sliced lean beef marinated in savoury soy sauce and tangy calamansi juice and topped with caramelized white onions was impressively tasty and tender. Pinakbet na Baboy (₱330) - This dish featuring a medley of vegetables - such as eggplant, green beans, and bittern melon - and pork sautéed in a savoury shrimp paste is one of Mom's favourites. Unfortunately, she wasn't super impressed with Aristocrat's version. Ginataang Laing (₱225) - This Filipino comfort dish of taro leaves and pork bits cooked in coconut milk and topped with shrimp and siling labuya (small, fiery chili pepper cultivar) was richly creamy, slightly spicy and deeply aromatic. 3-PC Chicken Barbecue (₱345) - This is Aristocrat's iconic dish, often cited as the flagship meal of the legendary Manila-based establishment. Their famous Chicken Barbecue is composed of three pieces of chicken (typically drumsticks and/or leg/thigh cuts) that are marinated, skewered, and grilled to a tender, juicy, and smoky finish. Served with Java Rice (a bright yellow-orange-coloured, savoury rice) and homemade Atsara (a Filipino pickled dish made from grated unripe green papaya) both of which bring out the tastiness of the smoky chicken. Pork Barbecue (₱300) - Two sticks of tender, marinated pork skewers grilled to perfection, typically served with Java Rice and Atsara. Dalyn replaced the Java Rice for white rice to complement the sweet, smoky bites of pork. Fresh Green Mango Shake (₱180) - My shake of fresh succulent green mango fruit blended with light syrup and crushed ice was a perfect balance of tangy and sweet - YUM! THE Aristocrat RESTAURANT's warm, polite and attentive service with nostalgic ambiance and delectable, well-presented dishes have made the establishment a beloved spot for both locals and tourists alike, a must-visit for the heart and soul of authentic Filipino fare.

Walked in and it felt like stepping into a living museum of Pinoy comfort food: those old black-and-white photos everywhere, the framed stories about Aling Asiang, the whole spot just humming with locals and travelers alike. We loaded up the table with the classics--boneless chicken barbecue that was smoky-sweet perfection, dripping with that thick peanut sauce, a mountain of java rice to soak it all up, sizzling sisig that popped with every bite, and their halo-halo to finish because why not go full send? Everything tasted like someone's lola spent hours perfecting it: bold flavors, generous portions, nothing skimpy. The staff hustled hard even with the late crowd, refilling calamansi juice without us asking and keeping things warm and welcoming. It's not flashy or Instagram-fancy, but that's exactly why it's so good--it's real, hearty Filipino home cooking done right in a place that's been doing it forever. Left full, happy, and already missing it. Easily the best meal of the trip. Five stars all the way.

Interior's another thing; very well-lit, inviting with a sunset palette and lively vibe despite us being the first customers. The crowd started building up later on and when we left, a number of tables were already filled. FOOD Since this was a first-time visit, we focused on the pork options since there were already 8 to choose from (and 2 for chicken). Unfortunately, we had no more room for chicken either because we were SO FULL from all the delicious meats and banchan (side dishes). Skirt Meat and Rack were the most meaty while the Pork Belly, if cooked right, would give ya a nice chicharon experience! Cheeks were actually cute and very interesting to eat. We made sure to cut them into smaller pieces midway, because they are curled up like me when I sleep sideways. Gotta get all angles cooked! Cooking, overall, was so fun and we took turns doing it so the other could have more time to eat; teamwork! Free spicy soup was available but I passed on that and focused more on the fish cake-type of banchan plus the cheese dip for the meats. This place offers very satisfying options! SERVICE Everyone did very well! They were easy to call for assistance regarding the grilling surface, refills and bill payment. Knowledge of the menu was also apparent.

Students, office workers, and tourists are the present diners when we ate there. What I did not like was the setting and service. It did come a long way now that it has a dedicated seating area and a covered roof compared to yesteryears when it was only a stand-up kiosk. Durint the time we were present dining, we also overheard another customer having their order wrong. On the menu are different kinds of isaw or pig and chicken intestines, and other adventurous stuff such as pig ears, tripe, gizzards and liver. People would actually line up and end up smelling like the smoke from the outdoor grill, which goes to show how good the isaw is. I personally don't like isaw very much, and I have already shifted to my veg diet when I came to UP, but my friends swear by the quality of the isaw sold by Mang Larry's. A friend remarked that he wouldn't even touch any other isaw, unless he is sure that utter care was taken by the vendor in cleaning the innards. They say that the stuff sold by Mang Larry's taste fresh and clean, and free from that undesirable taste of chicken poop that any amateur isaw vendor wouldn't think of cleaning out thoroughly. Anyway, I heard Mang Larry was able to send his kids to college because of his trade, to which I say, well done! Excellent job, hardworking and charismatic Mang Larry!
