Sage is Makati Shangri-La's replacement for the popular Conways Bar on the second floor, and the fine dining restaurant, Red on the first floor.
At first I was surprised that they closed 'em down... Cause we've always went there way back, especially when celebrating New Years, and it's not like they ever ran out of clientele, it being inside a five star hotel in the heart of Makati CBD.
So when we went to get some bread at Circles, I was surprised that RED was closed down and that things were "in the works"... and not even a year later, SAGE was open.
Sage is essentially the great in between of Conways and Red-- they have happy hour cocktails, GREAT live music, but also has a fine dining option on the second floor. I really like interior of SAGE. Unlike Red, it's not too classy that you'd need to wear a nice evening gown to fit in.. and unlike Conways, it's not just lots of old foreigners skulking in corners and hitting on barely 18 year old girls. (Serious though! That was kind of a traumatic experience for me haha I was with my family eating dinner. o_o)
The food is great, but it is pricey, as you'd expect. The drinks are really only worth it if you pop by during happy hour (or else a glass of wine would cost you an arm and a leg!) Still, I'm glad that Shangri La Makati has opened up SAGE, because it appeals to a much younger, more hip clientele. read more
