Nice golf course. The greens are a little fast. There tends to be a traffic jam on the 3 and 4 holes, of course, itself can be challenging for beginners. However, the prices for tee times are great. read more

Great golf course. Well maintained and I payed $22 bucks walking the 9 holes. Absolutely worth the money....the value for money is very high. They have a discount for residents but to get that you have to go to their 18hole course across the street and have your drivers license with a Long Beach(LB) address and two utility bills with a LB address....and pay $27 for the resident rebate. I understand they have to be careful but I had the LB address on my drivers license and I would think that showing that at check in would be enough but no. For rec 9 the resident rebate saves $7 per 9 holes so the 5th time you play you would save money on it. Anyways.....nice personnel they don't make the rules and great course for sure. Called the pro shop to kindly ask if the greens were good because I saw the day before Lakewood cc green were in repair and Tom from the pro shop says "I think so" then I ask have they been aerated then proceeds to say "I think they did it a week ago" I reply "so they're not good" and he replies with a "maybe" this is unacceptable trying to swindle people to play at the course when they surely know the greens have not healed, I have not been back to this course in quite some time due to boomer baby pro shop employees that over pack the course while conducting sub par customer service and only care about free golf read more

They water the grass. That's all that separates this executive course from so many others in L.A. and O.C. Every tee box, fairway, rough and green were green and lush. 9 holes, a few par 3's and 4's. Relatively short with big hitters able to reach the green on 3 out of 4 par 4's. $22 to walk the course on a weekday. Fun place. read more

Nice design. Fairly well kept bunkers. Players do not fix their ball marks here, it seems. Pace of play is also fair for a short course. But, these have to be the slowest greens I've played in years though by far. Unless this is your only course you play, it'll mess you up when you go anywhere else. read more

They have some great specials. I had the grilled ham and cheese on wheat and it was sooo delicious. It comes with fries for only $7. They also have modelo on tap. My friend split the burger with bacon jam and thought it was also delicious. I'm not sure if the restaurant is showing on Yelp independently from the golf course so I'll post here for now. 2 stars for this course only because the squirrels are adorable and friendly, but I'll never be back. We had a reservation and were harassed by a group behind us the entire time (a walk on who was squeezed in). They kept yelling at us to hurry up when we were literally waiting for the group in front of us to get off the tee, the green, etc. We have all played those types of days where nobody is going anywhere. And they complained to the Marshall who sided with them. We were advised to hit our drives into the foursome in the fairway ahead of us - like how in the hell is that respectful for a golf course? The Marshall was empathetic but kept trying to hurry us up when there were 5 groups stacked ahead of us too. Maybe, just maybe, you guys shouldn't book so many tee times close together? How is that our fault? We felt rushed and stressed the entire time and the Marshall chose our group to follow and keep reminding us to hurry. For the price, go elsewhere. If you want to see the friendly squirrels, stick to the practice green but I wouldn't give the course your money. read more

A really intimidating par 4 since I have never played one, only par 3's until today. Beautiful greens, well manicured valleys and mounds with trees in the middle. After the 5th hole, the 6th is across the street so try to look at the map of the course beforehand or make the mistake like me of asking the pro shop (where the 5th hole leads to). Super cool pro shop staff. They really work with you, late, lost, whatever it is. They are very understanding. Gorgeous place. I highly recommend this place. read more

My neighbor invited me to play here on a beautiful early Monday morning. Green fee was quite reasonable. The course was well-maintained. It looked especially peaceful and enchanting in the dawn's morning light. Hitting right at the blinding bright rising sun made teeing off at the first hole a bit challenging. Overall, it wasn't too strenuous pulling a cart on this short course. All the holes were quite straight forward; no water hazards. The fairways were wide and forgiving. Bathrooms were clean. I like the price for sure...we pay $11.50 on weekdays for the twilight non-resident rate. I do not like the snack bar prices...it cost me $7 to get a 16 oz. soda and a small bag of orange ring soft candy. It is a 9 hole course with 4 par 4's and 5 par 3's. The first two holes are short par 4's that are under 300 yards that run along busy 7th St. There are two par 4's over 300 yards (holes 5 & 7). The last 4 holes are located across a small side street that you must cross. The par 3's are generally of decent length except for Hole #3 which is short with an elevated tee box that makes for a cool shot. Overall the course is in pretty good shape and the staff has been friendly. This place can play slow at times where 9 holes might take 2+ hours. They have an online feature to get a reservation but I think quite a few locals who are regulars show up and they squeeze them in and it can get backed up very fast by hole #2. I find this to be a great course for someone who is new to golfing but yet not so easy for the more advanced golfers to be bored. read more

Rec Park 9 , aka little Rec is a great executive 9-hole course. It has great variation in length. Great variation of layout; meaning that you have undulations, sand traps, elevated tea boxes, elevated greens, trees, the right amount of long rough versus a short fairway, all of it. They really do a great job at making this small nine hole course a complete golf experience. I have been playing golf for over 20 years and I have played some of the nicest courses in Southern California and the Monterey Bay. This little gem will keep you satisfied if you're out with the beginner, or want to play nine holes and have a nice walk around the lagoon close to sunset. I would advise you to remember that you're playing with beginners here. And you'll definitely wait on some holes. If it's busy, you are going to get backed up. All those things that you would experience at a high traffic municipal golf course can and will happen here during this course's busy hours. And as my wife continues to learn how to play golf and build her confidence and learn the etiquette of the golf game, we will continue to come to this great little course that has her mix up all of her club selection, and be able to get good at golf so she is confident to step out onto some of those nicer, longer, and more expensive golf courses. I waited 3 weeks to post this review because I had such a bad experience I wanted to give myself some distance before I could give a fair review. I've been to several courses around LA county but they've all been average with not much to write home about; this case was very different. Every employee I interacted with at this course could not have been more rude and ornery. There was a younger gal who was courteous upon check-in but their other colleague inside was rude. The course "ambassadors" were very rude. Seeing the other reviews of this course and I fear this is a pattern of unruly behavior towards their guests. What a shame. What's disappointing is that the course was fun and well maintained. It's a good thing the fairway doesn't have a personality too or else I fear it would take after it's groundskeepers. If you come here stay away from anyone who works here. read more

Played a round of golf (9 holes) at "Little Rec" park in Long Beach. The course was well maintained though the pace of the course was slow. We often had three groups waiting to tee off during our round. No apparent course marshal but at least the golfers were courteous and didn't hit into our group. Was a fun round of golf and one hole over water (par 4). The greens were not super difficult to read but fast. This is definitely a good place to practice approach shots and short game (chips and putts). My friends booked online and it was very reasonably priced. read more

You know what I know about golf? Besides the fact sex addict Tiger Woods plays it, absolutely nothing. But I'm willing to learn though, since some of my best friends are golfers, and invited me out for the first time to Rec 9, aka "Lil' Rec". Putting my ignorance of the game aside, and the fact my first visit was basically a ride-along with my friends, here's my rundown: 1. Clean. While parts of LBC can be on the grimy side, the pro shop and course here were nicely kept. The staff in the pro shop were friendly, and cool with me just riding along with my friends, this being my first time and all. The course itself was nicely maintained; the only litter I saw was a stray beer can, and divots (the bald spots where an errant swing has knocked out a chunk of grass) were at a minimum. They also thoughtfully provide bottles of grass seed on each cart, so responsible golfers can repair the inevitable divot as they play. 2. Golf carts. I want one. 3. Atmosphere - nice and quiet. For a couple hours, I forgot I was in the LBC, and thought I was out in the wilderness, albeit with a golf cart. I can see why golf is popular; at least when you're doing well, it's super relaxing. Nothing beats being out in the fresh air and trees with friends, with birds and squirrels flitting about. The fact it's so close to home makes it even better. 4. Golf carts. Did I mention I want one? Part of the thrill is just zipping from hole to hole in the cart. The 9 holes flew by, and I enjoyed every minute. I was asking my friends questions along the way, and learning what I could of the game. And now I'm looking at buying my first set of clubs. So watch out, golf world. Nice course. 9 hole executive golf course. Longest hole 343, shortest 92. Decent condition and well laid out. Holes to note - hole 5, downhill par 4 with plenty of sand. Also hole 7, par 4 where you have to hit over water. You need to carry about 100 yards off the tee box to do so. Yay! This is my last course. Now I have played all 41 par 3/ executive courses in the LA area. Time to shut it down for a little and regroup for next season. Full review on my website. read more

Rian Cooley, the Pro at Rec 9, is the best pro I ever worked with. He changed my game completely, but the lessons are so much fun it doesn't seem like work at all. He makes mastering the game not only seem possible, but easy. Along with individual lessons Rian offers kids classes (not sure about the schedule) and a free woman's clinic ever Saturday 10-11AM. This is a fun little course to practice your short game. You'll only use your driver on 2 holes (maybe), then it's a short shot or a chip if you're lucky. Great course to get good use out of your wedges. We always play pretty early in the morning when the course is wet with dew so the greens wind up being a little slow. They are fairly lush compared to golf courses with shorter grass and faster stimp on their greens. Hope you're not too precious about silence when you're shooting. There are some pretty busy roads surrounding this course. And the grounds guys don't slow down around you. Mowers on full tilt. They'll even be mowing the green while you're hitting on to it. Win a prize if you hit one! Folks in the clubhouse are nice and they have the basics there if you needs balls, glove, etc. Food in the cafe isn't amazing but they make a good breakfast sandwich. read more

I have nothing against this golf course in terms of playing. But it should be noted that Kathy (the person working in front desk) is the worse. She is constantly rude to customers. The manager makes inconsistent rules which results in people not being able to play. If you go I would recommend avoiding the morning so you do not have to deal with Kathy. read more

This weighs in at about 3.5 stars... The STAFF are friendly and helpful. The FAIRWAYS are yellowed out some and worn which is pretty norm for low cost courses in a drought. Also, this is a city-owned course so expectations shouldn't be too high here. The GOLF CARTS are old and rickety but at least they're quick. It's a warm day but we're catching some great breezes out here. The TRACK is not flat as it was built on a hillside. It is no mountain course, but most definitely nowhere near flat and boring. It is a pretty fun play overall and a nice place for those who aren't big bombers. They have a small modest PRO SHOP and CAFE. The GREENS are small but pretty well maintained. There are lots of trees on this course. They have ample WATER COOLERS throughout the course. read more

Overall like the course a lot. Cheap, fun to play. Honestly only reason for this review is the off putting experience from one of the staff. I was unaware there was a 5 dollar spectators fee, which is perfectly reasonable. Instead of asking if I paid that, they thought it better to approach my golf cart and rudely say "there's two of you, you only paid for one". With my response of saying I was spectating, they responded "go pay the spectators fee". What kind of way is that to talk to people? Like I'm trying to cheat the course out of 5 dollars? C'mon, learn to talk to people if you work with the general public. read more
