I was a little worried about coming to R&R, because of the reviews I read. I can tell you my visit was fantastic. Sedar the Team member working this day greeted us warm and friendly as soon as we walked in the store. Sedar gave us a friendly quick tour after we let her know we were looking for vinyl albums. The organization of the albums were very good as well as the grades listed on the each album. I slowly went through the selections and picked up about few. sedar did interact with us a few times and made the visit warm and welcoming. I actually bought a few more albums because I felt comfortable about the business style and layout. We bought 10 albums at about 200.00 and feel great about the quality. Negatives: Very poor Hip-Hop music selection which is clustered right in front of the registers bc, well, you know . Only reissues and unsold stuff from Record Store Day. Older game systems and games were very expensive so maybe their strategy is designed for impulse buying. I would give the service a 5/10 but that unfortunately is the norm with the 18-25 workforce you usually find in the mall. read more

Yes, like most of the reviews written about this place. Horrible selling process... wanted to sell some records that I had, was told the owner is mostly never on site and he is the only one that can approve purchase. So have to leave records and then wait for him to make an offer. But employees feel like that is supposed to be known by all, cause I did not know and he seemed annoyed letting me know. So many other places that are local and much more convenient when it comes to a win win for you and the business. At least there should be a time with a week that you can get an evaluation done on spot. 6/5/22 Today I played Street Fighter 2 at Reconds and Rarities with Guile. I haven't played the arcade game in a long time. The buttons or my reaction timing wasn't as fast as thought and lost to Dhalsim by a spec of life when the timer hit zero. It was fun, but the game is no longer a quarter to play. It cost $.75 to play. I don't know what it cost to continue. Still, the sounds of arcade games brought me back to my wife and I's child hood. Not a bad way to spend minutes. read more

Interesting to find a vinyl record store in a busy mall, but I was surprised to see it. At first I thought it was a video game room, but that's only half the store. The other half was music related. I was excited because I could ,and money off of games I never touched. Customer service: Patrick was the one who helped me with the process of selling my games. However, he was impatient and had a bad attitude. I never sold my used games before besides gamestop, so this process was new to me. I did not appreciate his negativity just because I did not understand the whole selling game process I thought I could just bring my games, get an evaluation, then decide on the spot. The process is that I give them my games, then they have a person to test and value it, then they call me to see if I want to sell the games or take it back. He said they will call me in a day or 2. I didn't answer on the first day because I had work. On the second day they called, I told him that I didn't want to sell 2 to 3 games out of the bunch I gave. He sighed as if I was annoying him and said that the guy would have to re-evaluate the left over games. I thought I would get a detailed value for each game but I guess not. So I went into the store later that day and took all my games back because I do not want to do business with this establishment. Great selection, we looked around for a while as it was both of our first times in an actual record store. I was about 10 seconds from buying a Tyler, the Creator record when one of the employees rudely told me to "go push the records back". I now know that this could warp the records however, A.) put signs around your shop ???? and B.) I guarantee there was 10 other ways to say that and come across with a more helpful demeanor rather than snooty. Needless to say, I put the record back and we left about a minute later. I was excited to check out a store that had both records and old video games, two of my biggest collecting hobbies. The record selection is solid, but all the games are behind glass, behind the counter. If I can't look at a product or even see its price, how am I supposed to know if this is something I'll want to buy? Apparently to shop here you have to be mind readers because how do they allow to sell vinyl's that don't work. you have to open it and play it to know and the service is horrible. R&R is one of my favorite record stores in Northern Virginia burbs; and it's in a shopping mall! Crazy right?! You don't need to go all the way into DC to find good vinyl! The staff is very helpful and can actually look up a record if you are looking for something specific. They have a great $1-3 section and a rotating "new arrival" section. As a good record store should they have a listening area with two record players. R&R has a decent Jazz section, as well as brand new records. You can also find a lot of other classic and vintage items like collectible figures, cards, video games and video game consoles. read more

My record store day was ruined by an employee lying to me on the phone about how many copies of a record they had, later went to the store and they said they had it earlier but it was now sold out. My friend and I were racially insulted and mocked by the owner, Ryan, today in the shop. We received very poor customer service and all of this happened in front of our children. My son wanted to look at the skateboards in the back of the shop. The store has the boards (they have no wheels) hanging on the wall. I asked him how much the board costs and he told me. I responded that it was high, does the board come with other things (thinking in my head, I wonder if I have to buy the wheels separately). Admittedly, I know nothing about skateboards, but I was hoping to get more information in the store. I wanted to make sure that my son was able to pick out anything he needed while he was in the store. My plan was tell my son we couldn't get the board, but come back later and get it as a surprise present for a school accomplishment. The owner basically told me I could not afford the board because with customization it costs about $130 and I obviously think that the $50 base price is too much. He repeated a few times that the board is not meant for someone like me and that I can't afford it. I told him that as someone who used to work in customer service, I was shocked by his reaction and I was just trying to get more information. I'm sorry that you took offense. He responded that I was the only customer who had such a reaction to his merchandise and this is not the the store for me. I understood that there was a misunderstanding at this point. I think because I wanted my son to think I wasn't going to buy the board, he thought I wouldn't buy it and didn't want to waste his time. However, since the boards can be customized, I wanted to make sure my son had the chance to pick out the customizations. So I said, OK, I will come back with my husband and try this another time. But the owner then went on to say, "This is not for you 'Sanford and Son.' I thought you were going to have a heart attack and yell, 'the big one is coming.' Sanford, this is not for you. Just admit you are not going to buy it. Now your mother here (pointing to my friend), she might buy it, but you aren't. Mom (talking to my friend), you might buy it, right? But admit it, your daughter won't." My friend and I look nothing alike, we are pretty much polar opposites in height, weight, hair, and skin tone. The only thing we have in common is that we are both African-American. Furthermore, we are about the same age, so she couldn't be my mother. At this point I realize this is not just bad customer service. I have never been treated like this in a store in my life. The owner and his employees began laughing when he called me Sanford and Son. When he called my friend my mother, the two other customers in the store, who were together, began laughing. My kids were asking, "Mama, why is he treating you like this?" It was humiliating and demeaning. I get that he thought I was not going to buy the skateboard. But why call me names? Why insult me? That's the part I don't understand. The world is in a crazy place and things like courtesy and kindness are rare. My friend asked the employee at the counter for the owner's name and he said "I don't know his name." The owner then bragged that he had another store and I wouldn't buy anything from any of them. We walked out and I took a picture of the owner on his tirade. The fact the the employee did not want to give the owner's name is indicative to me that he knew the owner did something wrong. If the owner was doing the right thing, what is the harm in giving his name? I reported the incident to the customer service desk in the mall. The customer service representative was horrified and said she would talk to him. She took a security guard with her. She told me when she returned that he admitted to thinking I wasn't going to buy the board and to calling me Sanford and Son and my friend my mother. However, he said it was "harmless" and in "good fun." He was not sorry and would not apologize. He then sent a customer down to tell her that he provides good customer service. She also found out his name. If you look at my Yelp history, you will see I have never given a one star before. I usually give great reviews because I have been lucky and usually get great customer service. This experience was not harmless or fun for me, my friend, and our children. It was demeaning, embarrassing, and hurtful. read more

I happened to stumble upon R&R Records & Rarities and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Seeing all of these LP's, 45's, old school video game systems and video games immediately teleported me back a couple of decades and initiated a welcomed stroll down memory lane. So many childhood memories came rushing back to me while walking through this store, like being at home with my parents when they played various records and we'd all sing in the house... or playing Mario Brothers with my family and friends on Nintendo and more. And they had SOOOOO many records! Sweet, sweet nostalgia! This place is a GOLD MIND for anyone over 25 who can really appreciate the quality entertainment we we able to experience back in the day - and they have a few things the under 25 crowd may appreciate also. It's mid. This record store is so bare bones it's surprising they can even stay in business at all. It's sort of like just looking at someone's personal record collection in that it's so limited as far as its selection. If you're looking for metal or punk records, check out Vienna Music Exchange instead. R&R mostly carries a couple new releases by some bigger bands in the metal category and that's it. Some Darkthrone, some Behemoth, a couple newer bands. You can browse the entire store's stock of both genres in 2 minutes. That's no fun! Their punk section is sparse, there's like 10 records total. They were trying to sell an original GBH record which was pretty cool, except that someone had drawn all over the cover of the album with a pen and they were charging 40 bucks for it. I'm sorry but no. They've got a small section of used stuff which might be okay to look thru. As far as all their arcade stuff, well, it makes for very cool looking decor, but the machines do look like they're on their last legs and I didn't see any games that immediately grabbed my attention. The claw game was out of order. They do have a pretty cool selection of collector's goods: vintage toys, Pokemon cards, Game Boy Advance games. This stuff was actually pretty cool and the reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of just 1. I really like this store in concept cause it's convenient location wise and it's located in a pretty decent mall. But I just can't see myself returning very often. read more

I started coming to R&R this year. It's located in Springfield Town Center, and it's about half vinyl records and half used video games. They do have some comic books as well I think. The record selection is pretty good, there are usually good selections from a wide range of artists and they have a good selection of both used and new vinyl. They have a good selection of new hip-hop and metal vinyl records and are always adding more stuff. Used selection is pretty good and the prices tend to not be outrageous. It's definitely worth checking out and the staff is also always friendly. read more

Don't sell your games to this place. They take your games and systems for weeks to get them appraised without notifying you when your check is available for pick up. I had to keep calling to find out when my check was ready. They also couldn't sell some of my games because they had too much inventory and lost them instead of giving them back. When I asked to leave a note for their manager to call me, they wouldn't write anything down. Avoid this place at all costs, you're better off selling through an app or yard sale. read more

This is a review of the store, customer service, and vinyl purchases. I have to say that I was impressed with every aspect of my 1st visit to Records & Rarities (and it won't be my last). The layout of the store, and more specifically the vinyl records was impeccable. Albums were sorted by genre and were actually (and accurately) in alphabetical order. For those of you who don't buy albums, this make finding what you want a pleasure: and no not ever store does this. Most impressive was their grading. I would say that they we spot on. Meaning VG was VG and NM was NM. If anything, they were conservative in their grading which is easiest way to build trust with Vinyl Collectors. The selection was very good (love that there was a Heavy Metal and Punk section which is also not common). I could not have asked for more on customer service front as the two folks who I interacted with were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. As a side note, the music they were playing was fantastic. It was loud enough to enjoy without be over the top. It was like being back in the 1980's. Records & Rarities is well worth the stop. read more

They have gone downhill. The only gameboy games there are more reproduction than authentic. They should seriously reconsider renaming to Records and Reproductions. Several of the products I had bought in the gameboy department were reproductions, and I didn't find this out until later when I saw the receipt because I figured they would at least give me the benefit of buying authentic games. Wrong. One of the games isn't even listed as a reproduction on the receipt. In fact the man working there didn't tell me that the ones I had bought were reproductions. He was very nice but they should not deceptively advertise their games and make them seem like they're authentic old games. I only seem to have bought 2 authentic games after doing some research. This is just for the gameboy department. It seems they had a nice selection of n64, and other console games but the problem with buying those is they're either in not the best condition. But they did have some good ones. I asked to look at some games in a cabinet and the manager stepped out to help me and made it seem like I was inconveniencing him. I asked to look at a grand theft auto game and he hands it to me and practically rolled his eyes. I didn't ask to look at any other games because I didn't want to be there longer than I had to, I'll say it again, the clerk seemed nice though. Always bring a phone for research if you do go there or else you will likely regret it. If the business would like this review removed, please notify me and we can work something out. But for now it seems you've lost a customer. read more

I really want to like this shop, and the people are nice, but retro video game collectors should be aware that all of their good Game Boy and Game Boy Advance cartridges are overpriced "reproductions" (aka bootlegs), and I really, really, really wonder if they would have volunteered that information if I hadn't specifically asked. read more

I've been shopping here for a while and have had no issues. I bought a Retron HD1 to be able to play NES games. It cost $65.00. Stopped in a store called 2nd and Charles 3 hours later and saw it on sale for $39.99. R&R would not match the price or give me a refund. They would only give me store credit for $30.00 because ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I can understand if it was one of their toys or used games but this was a brand new in box item. The manager would not budge so your store loses a customer for life. read more

I do not recommend this store at all. If you want records or retro games, go someplace else. The quality of their stock is poor. If you are looking for something and they put you on a wishlist, don't expect to get the item you requested. Instead, they would rather send their stock to a new store than sell you the item you are looking for. To top it all off, their used merchandise is overpriced. read more

Love this place! This is the best store in the whole darn mall hands down. They have two store fronts side by side, records and music in one and video games, comics in the other. They have an amazing collection of old school full side arcade games you can play for a few quarters and the staff is very friendly and laid back. My review is regarding the vinyl. Way overpriced. For example Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream and Other Delights (not the cleanest copy) was listed for $18. Usually you can find a similar copy in the dollar bin. That's just one example. Go check it out though and realize they're charging mall prices. Then go to any other place, like CD Cellar, and find a better selection and better price. read more

Place is cool. The guys seem chill. Lots of niche collectibles for people looking for vintage toys, video games, and records. However they're problem is with buying and selling. Sold a couple collectibles to them. Had to negotiate to get a halfway decent amount. A week later found out that they were selling one of the collectibles for a 600℅ mark up. The one item alone was more then the collective offer we agreed upon. I understand their business model and the fact they resell to make money but low offers coupled with taxing customers on their resell prices is something to look out for. read more

It's time for me to come out hiding and say this about the owner there. I was able to find some retro games what I wanted and I've been getting the goods there since they opened. I go to this store a least once or 3 times a month to find what I wanted. However the manager treats me like I don't know anything about arcades and video games. A good example is that I was playing X-Men: Children of the atom arcade and the owner saw how I've been pressing the buttons then the owner has the nerve criticize me how I been smashing the buttons (which I wasn't because we all know how a 6 button fighting games work to have quick reflexes) saying that I was going "jammed the buttons down". I know how 6 button fighting games work and the guy treats me I know nothing about arcades. I've been working and repairing arcades since 2005 for crying out loud!!! I even told him that I have experience repairing them but he doesn't believe me!!! But one thing that I CANNOT let go and NEVER forget is when he was rude to me. What happened was that I brought in a GameCube and ask and test to see if it works. The next week, I've decided to bring in a 2nd GameCube and ask him nicely to see if it works. But out of nowhere, the owner literally snapped at me and was being very rude to me! He got mad at me and said to me that I wasted his time testing out the console from the previous week and for not buying anything from his store. I literally felt hurt and and feel like I was going to breakdown after he snapped at me. If he would've said no and explain it to me very nicely then I would've understand it but he didn't have to snapped at me and be such a complete jerk. I've been shopping and supporting this store from time to time since they open because I wanted to relive my childhood and getting the games I use to own and want. But after that incident I feel like I should never come back and stop supporting that store ever again since the owner was very rude to me. The employees there however are very nice and have been very helpful to me so nothing bad about them. As is the old saying goes: If you're a returning customer that likes to support this store, then the owner would be nice to you and help you out. But if that manager becomes rude to you, then chances are you don't want to come back and deal with that guy again. If the owner reads this review then he'll probably know who I am and chances are I might not be welcome there again (which is fine anyway plus there are other people that will continue supporting the store which is fine but I never cause any trouble there). I'm going to be on a long hiatus from going to that store and go to other retro game store that doesn't have a rude owner. It's no big loss anyway, there are dedicated people that still go there. I've been here a few times, and I've always found something to pick up, but this store could be a lot better. It seems that the store is more focused on selling "kitschy" things, or rather, vintage items that kids might find interesting. And that is cool and all, all the best for them. The thing that gets me, every time I go in there, is that it is clear that this store is run by people who know very little about music. I don't care how young you might be, if you work at a record store and you file Jethro Tull in the "T" section, you should just give up. Likewise, I have found April Wine in the "W" section (it's a band, not a person) and Deep Purple in the "P" section (huh). I found a Zappa record in the "M" section but to be fair, the spine did say "The Mothers"...and I actually wound up buying it. But the point is, they should know what they are selling. Likewise, the prices are ridiculous. Some records that are clearly worth a buck are priced at $12 while that aforementioned Zappa/Mothers album - an original pressing in great condition - was snagged at a cool $7. All told, I am glad that there is a record store in the mall once again, and I hope that kids are discovering new and classic music because of it. The old-school video games are fun to sort through, the skateboard stock is cool, and the more eclectic stuff, like the assortment of WWF wrestling figures, is pretty hilarious. Wow, this store has a cool vibe...But, buyers beware!!! These guys will increase the price of an item at will. We visited the store just to check out what they had and noticed they were carrying the super hard to find SNES CLASSIC which retails for $79. When we inquired of the cost, one employee ran off and said I need to call our manager/owner, Needless to say we were a bit perplexed. When the employee returned, he stated the device was on sale for$239....$239 are you kidding me? I understand this thing is hard to find but even second hand on eBay it sale for $140 at best... anyway, I digress, on the way out of the store the employees proceeded to let us know that we'd be lucky to find the item and rudely wish us good luck as we were basically ushered should out of the store!!! This will be great story to share with thousands of people customers service representatives I train each year! read more

Avoid this store at all cost. If you love a bad selection and annoying employees you'll love this place but otherwise not so much. Went in for the first and last time today. My dad and I are both big metalheads and the selection of metal band vinyl this place has are very laughable. I also love the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s bands. I found no Van Halen, No AC/DC, no Def Leppard, no Nirvana, no rolling stones, no foo fighters, and so on. When I do say so on I mean it because I was able to find one album that I wanted. The 45 records they have aren't organized at all. The employee even said, "I wouldn't really be able to tell you what's even in there." The employee pestered me relentlessly. I told him 2 and 3 times I was just looking yet he repeatedly asked if I was looking for anyone, in particular, showed me albums I didn't want randomly, kept bugging me and making jokes about vinyl he knew I wouldn't want, handed me an album and left it with me and then when I gave it back he sadly said you don't want it, and he used horrible tactics to try and sell me on more expensive stuff. The prices vary but there was one 45 Record they were asking as much for like a 12" record. I also found 2 very expensive for what they were Jimi Hendrix albums one had 6 songs and a pretty messed up sleeve that they wanted $39 for. The employee told me that there was a rare star wars record and told me it was pretty much a one of a kind and not mass produced yet he had 10 in his store alone. I will NOT be returning here. The only reason I gave this place two stars is because it looked like they had a decent R&B and Jazz section for people who like that type of music.
