Reardon charged us for time that he was not actually there, and did not fix the problem. Total sham!

John Hoadley Plumbing & Heating Inc. - Cutting holes in the wall to unthaw the pipes. So lucky there was no flooding!!

Charged me $150 to tell me they couldn't fix my bathroom faucet. I bought a new one, had them come back out to replace it, and they charged me almost $1000. Talked to Micheal Hoadley about how that happened and he said that since it was a pedestal sink, it's kind of a big job. It took two guys five hours to replace it and they trashed the rug on the landing outside the bathroom. They didn't think it would be thoughtful to maybe take your shoes off or cover the rug. That cost me $180 to clean after they were done. Michael tried to tell me that it was a 3x5 throw rug without ever seeing it. As other reviewers have said, they know plumbers are hard to find and so they are charging ridiculous amounts and could care less about their customers. They think they have a endless supply.

Luckily Dave Hoadley sent over some of his team members and were able to unclog our system and get us back up and running. THEN we had the unfortunate experience of having our pipes freeze over the New Years holiday. Dave Hoadley spent 12 hours at our house unfreezing our pipes. He came back the next day to work on the rest of the house and later that week to check our hot water. We ended up with holes in our walls, but we avoided flooding because Of Dave's hard work. It would have been a total shit show if the pipes leaked all over our house. I have found their prices to be reasonable, but all things considered, when you avoid flooding and What goes along with that, hard to put a price tag on it.

I got quotes and presentations from 4 different vendors and the pitch and price was exactly the same - hour long presentation and a $30k cost. However, what each vendor tells you is that IF you qualify a $10k rebate is available and your net cost is $20k. Essentially the rebate is a scam - it just gives contractors the ability to inflate the prices and use the rebate to make the system sound cheaper than it really is. I finally met with McIver and he was able to simplify the entire process. He is not a Mass Save contractor. So he does not work the rebate, just offers a strait-up cost to install the system. When he gave me his quote, I quickly figured out that Dan McIver was an honest man and that the whole Mass Rebate program was a scam. His quote with the similar equipment and the same number of mini-splits was $13,500. I hired him for the job and they started within a week. One of my biggest concerns was esthetics - I was worried about too many refrigeration lines running around the outside of the house. Our house is a rental property in Cape Cod that had a lot of charm to it and we did not want to ruin the integrity of it. Dan came up with a brilliant solution and was able to run most of the lines through the basement to minimize the lines on the outside of the house - we were so pleased with this solution. His team did a fantastic job building out the system - they were clean and finished the project on the timeline he quoted. The work was high quality!! Net is that Dan took a very complicated buying process and made it simple and affordable. He is highly recommended for the quality of his work, pricing and his honest and straightforward approach!

Additionally, he was pleasant, polite, thorough and professional. That said, when I received my bill, I was stunned by the exorbitant cost, $535.00, that BBM charged for a thermostat which can be purchased online or in stores for $385.00 less than what I was charged. (plus there was an additional $149.38 installation fee) [Best Buy and Walmart $139.99, HVAC Home Safety $131.50, Amazon $149.99 } Prior to my appointment, my thermostat had not been working properly so, in anticipation, I purchased one exactly like the one I had. But later, based on conversations with the technician and my neighbor, I switched to the Honeywell T6 . When I received my bill, I was shocked to see a charge of $535.00 for a thermostat that other websites charge no more than $150.00. Through phone calls and emails, I requested BBN adjust the charge. Crickets. In short, I think paying $535.00, a $385.00 or more markup for a $149.99 thermostat, is usurious price gouging.

Hired AJ Mechanical to replace a furnace with boiler to a hot water on demand system. He did arrive…read morequickly and made himself available to do the emergency work, which I appreciated, and I was excited to find what I thought to be a reliable and honest plumber. But I soon discovered he was not honest nor reliable. He promised he would do all the plumbing and soldering beforehand at his shop so the unit could be installed quickly at my place, but he end up doing all the pre-install work on my property, which took several hours, so the install process (2 days!) was much longer than he promised. Soon afterward, the faucet and shower water contained fine black sediment, and sometimes the water that came out was completely black. I called AJ Mechanical and described the issue, he directed me to call the city to see if the city water was having problems. No one else in the building reported a similar issue, and we are all on the same water main. AJ Mechanical would not send someone out to troubleshoot, he kept claiming it must be a city water issue. I had another plumber take a look and he noticed the water filter, meant to prolong the life of the hot water on-demand-system, was not rated for furnace use. It was the type of filter rated for residential faucets. I contacted him again, sent him photos of the gallon per minute rating for the filter he installed, but he was wholly adamant that the problem was not due to his work. He was sure that he had installed the correct filter. I was concerned the loose carbon (from the broken filter) would damage the expensive, brand new water on demand system he had just installed, in addition to needing clean incoming water to my shower and sinks. He claimed it was not his problem. Desperate, I called the manufacturer, who was very helpful. They agreed the issue sounded like a filter rating problem, and were actually very concerned about the integrity of the new water system. They called AJ Mechanical on my behalf (plumbers must be certified to install this brand)to discuss the issue. Afterward, AJ Mechanical sent me a text, suddenly accepted the filter must be the problem, agreed to flush out the system with a more expensive brand, and replace the filter with a properly rated one. The fix date and time came and went. An hour after the appointment, I called AJ Mechanical, and was promised someone was on their way. Someone arrived over four hours later. The man brought the cheap brand to flush the system, not what we had agreed to. He installed the correctly rated water filter, but didn't install the new sink filter that AJ Mech had agreed to. I will NEVER hire AJ Mechanical again. He talks big when you're in need but abandons the job once he's been paid. He was completely arrogant about fixing his mistake, and when someone finally did come to fix it, he didn't complete all the repairs he said he would.
