I contacted three HVAC companies to remove an existing heating system and install a new one. John came within a couple of days of my call and followed up with a written proposal the following day. He was very reasonably priced in comparison and much more professional and knowledgeable than the other two, measuring room by room for heating load calculations and discussing the different options with me, including rebate opportunities. The house had a gas fired boiler with radiators and a hot water tank. The newly installed system is a gas fired warm air furnace with an evaporator coil for future AC, ducted supplies and returns and an on demand hot water heater. John and his crew arrived promptly to start work the day we had agreed on. I appreciated the fact that he discussed the process and timeline for the installation before getting to work so I knew what to expect, then reported daily on their progress. Everyone was courteous and respectful of the fact I was living in the house during the installation. They did an excellent job, working quickly and steadily with very few breaks. I was impressed and thrilled with the quality of workmanship. On completion of the job they left my basement cleaner than they found it and removed all the evidence of the existing system. 7/25/2018. Our second floor central a/c was running but not very cold. Called Silver Lake who arrived on 6/27/2018 in the afternoon. They added 2.75 lbs of R22 freon to the unit at a cost of $95/lb costing $261 plus another $220 for labor for a total of $481. The next morning the a/c unit did not start up and it ran for less than 24 hours. It took over a week in very hot weather for Silver Lake to return. They could not find the problem, told me to get another a/c company, and would not return the $481 that I paid him. All he wanted to do was to sell me a new system. A few days later the new A/C company arrived and found no freon in the system, added new freon at $35/lb and found the problem within minutes and had the system running cold. Their report was " air conditioning was blowing warm air because condenser had a bad schrader. After replaced leak stopped and properly charged was possible." I came to visit my elderly mother and found water leaking in her basement. It was the morning after a huge snow storm. I called Silver Lake at the recommendation of my sister and they came within an hour and assessed the situation thoroughly. The heat had to be turned off because the system was leaking carbon monoxide. They left us with several heaters and came back early the next morning and completely replaced my mother's heating system for a very reasonable price. In the same visit they replaced my mother's smoke detector batteries as well for no cost. They had been beeping for days! My mom commented she liked the space heater and they gave it to her! Jon was there the very next day, explaining the best options for me knowing I was going to use a Mass Save loan to fund the project. He started the job the day I got my Mass Save approval, and was done in three days, even took the time on a Saturday to explain how the mini-split Heat/Cooling unit worked. John made recommendations for services that where needed and gave me the prices .Jeff did a great job cleaning my whole heating /Ac system and was very conscience.
