I experienced constant flooding and sewage leaking from the kitchen sinks (yep, 2 sinks), giant sized insects invading our space, decaying floor boards from water damage, 3 years of uninterrupted mold and mildew, the need for a dehumidifier requiring 4 buckets of water to be dumped daily, and the last stray was a bathroom ceiling leaks flooding the unit requiring a 1 month stay in the hotel paid for by my insurance and I still had to pay the rent for my unit. During those 3 years, I suffered terribly from respiratory problems for the first time in my life. No empathy shown by the leasing agent or landlord for the major and myriad inconveniences. Upon returning to the unit in addition to the floor repairs they used substandard contractors to paint the walls. During my stay at the hotel (on my insurance's dime, mind you despite paying the full month's rent DURING it's renovation) I was not notified that the walls would be painted until AFTER the work was done, nor was my artwork removed from the walls prior to painting. The substandard painters merely painted around my artwork. Essentially their substandard painting contractors sealed the damage free adhesive to the walls with the paint making the artwork impossible to remove without damaging the wall. Moreover, the substandard contractors also painted over the back door sealing it shut. Upon move-out, the property management company wanted to penalize me for the damage caused by their own substandard painters shoddy work, since there're still holding on to my security deposit. As a prospective renter, my experience was very poor. That would have been fine. But what really annoyed me was the application process. The management is not familiar with more modern ways to verify employment and income (such as third party service) and insisted on unredacted pay stubs - which is much less secure. The interaction as we went back and forth was rude and reminded me of scammers trying to get one to divulge information urgently (because so many people are interested in the apartment!) at the cost of better judgement. In trying to get more information from me they cited their "policies" but being unable to articulate why their policy insists on having the information I didn't want to share (like my pre-tax deductions) This conversation was not with some mid-level employee but what seemed to be the owner. I should hope he could articulate the reasoning behind his own policy! To me, this company clearly orients themselves to customer service of property owners, not renters. Whenever anything was broken and we submitted a maintenance request, it was addressed quickly. Nothing remained broken for long. John even came over and replaced the batteries on the smoke detector when I couldn't figure out which one was low and the beeping wouldn't stop. Our microwave broke and I messaged John and it was replaced within a few days. In my experience Scout Properties is a great property management company. When we first started with Scout Properties, things were great. Our first manager, Nick, was…read moreprofessional and easy to reach. But after Victor took over, everything went downhill fast. I'm not sure Victor ever really knew who we were and I can't be sure he ever visited the apartment before things really went to crap. He completely missed a major toilet leak--even after the tenant moved out--which left us with a cumulative $5,773.14 water bill. Then Scout didn't handle the tenant's voucher renewal properly, with no warning to us, which made the tenant move out early and cost us rental income. Even worse, we've now been stuck for several months without a tenant and have had to cover all the turnover costs ourselves. Despite that, Scout still charged their full management fees while barely responding to us. All of a sudden, Scout dropped us as clients (including our neighbors who were clients also), kept the fees, and stopped returning calls. Our next‑door neighbors had the same experience -- and told us their tenant was even offered an apartment at another property managed by Scout. Everything started fine but turned into one expensive, stressful mess. Don't hire Scout Properties unless you want poor communication, big bills, and months of lost rent.

Our horrible experience included the following: a complete failure to properly engage in acceptable accounting practices; a failure to timely and correctly pay monthly invoices to our vendors; a failure to timely collect monthly assessments from homeowners; a failure to properly monitor monthly HOA expenses; a failure to timely provide documentation to auditors; spending HOA funds without Board authorization, an inability to correctly interpret and properly enforce HOA by-laws; and improperly inserting itself into Board proceedings. All of these failures are exacerbated by the owner's arrogance and inability to engage in a professional manner with HOA Board members.

Kendall from Property Management is scum. My valuable car was damaged by a falling dead tree in the…read moreparking lot of the apartment I rent. The property management was fully aware of the likelihood of the tree coming down (for two years) and chose to do nothing. Within 24 hours of the tree destroying my car they had a company clean up the debris (both the smashed pieces of my vehicle and the tree debris from on top of and surrounding my car), yet did not notify me of any action. I called Kendall to ask about next steps, and she had the gall to act incredulous when I asked for their insurance information, saying she "wasn't sure" what insurance they have since they manage multiple properties, and then deflected and told me that I should get my own insurance to pay for it. One week later, they had a crew come and cut the rest of the tree down to the stump. I am still in the dark as far as next steps but am seeking legal counsel. The damage to my vehicle is quoted at 7600.00 in repairs. From previous interactions with this property management, it seems like they use their incompetence as a shield from any liability. This is still ongoing, I'll be posting a follow up review once we reach a conclusion.
