Located just off the beaten path off off 6th St behind it's bigger cousin, Fairwheel bikes lies RC. I've come by midday a couple of times in the past month to have some tweaks done to my racing bike. There's never been a line which means I can wait for those adjustments. I have Continental Gatorbacks which are notoriously difficult to change out. I had a race this wknd and decided to hedge my risk after training all winter by having thornless tubes installed last week. The charge was $15/tube and $10 labor per wheel, so $50 total for both tube replacements (totally reasonable). It took barely 15 minutes which was nice and the mechanic shared a few pointers during the process. Unfortunately, one tube came with a bad valve and it "revealed" itself mid-triathlon resulting in my first ever DNF :-/ I brought the bike back the following day and the young gentleman (same guy) confirmed the bad valve. He replaced the tube for free but then said he'd have to charge me another $10 labor. I thought he was joking at first but then he said the boss would likely be on the fence about comping this circumstances entirely so I just paid him the additional $10. Parking can sometimes be a little challenging but otherwise, all things considered, this is a good little shop for quick repairs or adjustments. read more

You can tell he genuinely cares about getting it right. As first-time bike renters preparing for the largest biking tour in Tucson, we were nervous. We asked for help getting fitted, and they went above and beyond--not just a quick adjustment, but genuine human kindness. They adjusted the seat, watched our posture, and even encouraged us to ride the bike on the side of the shop so they could observe and fine-tune it. They took their time, never rushed us, and made sure we felt confident and comfortable. We rented the bikes for 5 days for only $200 (about $40/day), which is an incredible deal--especially considering other shops in Tucson quoted $100-$200 per day for the same type of bikes. We had the most incredible experience with this bike shop. The owners and their staff helped us on multiple occasions and always went above and beyond to get what we needed and within our budget. They are a local family with high school/college kids of their own. You can be comfortable knowing that they will assist your college student with anything they need even if you can't be there. They took my son's old bike as a trade in against the cost of a new larger bike for his 6'5" height. When there was an item we needed that they didn't carry, they ordered it and had it ready in two days. I'd rather shop local when we can and will always go to them first from now on. At the start of the pandemic I took my bike in to have it repaired and it was stolen from the shop. They called me in, had me pay the repair fee, and then proceeded to tell me my bike was stolen. They told me things like this happen in Tucson and I should just learn to live with it. The owner has lied and lied telling me they would replace it with another bike, but it has been almost a year and he has become unresponsive. I never even received a refund for the repairs either. I couldn't have imagined a local business would act this way and I'm having a hard time believing they aren't just bad people who are hoping I'll go away and forget about it. RC Bicycles was amazing! It was my first time going to a bike shop. I was very nervous on what to say about my bike because I don't really know much about them. I told them I needed my steering wheel fixed because it wouldn't move with the bike. He was so kind to fix it on the spot AND added air in my tires! He couldn't fix it, but he had his mechanic try to do something else to it and within 2-3 hours it's was good to go! This place was the best! Super kind, friendly, and reasonable. We were renting bikes for a couple days in Tucson and RC had the best rates for hybrids when we called around. They also hooked us up with helmets, locks, water bottle cages, and bike pouches. What can I say? We're high maintenance. The bikes worked out really well and were in like-new condition. The guys working there were also friendly, awesome, and even entertained us by letting us run around the shop like it was a candy store. Do not go to this shop. I found my stolen bike at this shop. They told me different stories about how the bike ended up there, and were still uncooperative after I proved the bike was mine. After dealing with a rude front desk member when looking at their inventory, I spotted my stolen bike in the back. The staff member claimed there was no way it could be mine and listed several ridiculous reasons. After he couldn't find the serial number (and told me that there wasn't a serial number,) my boyfriend showed it to him on the bottom bracket. I matched this serial number with the receipt I had (proving my purchase and ownership), but he still did not give me back my bike. I called the cops and waited in front of the shop for the cops to show up, until the owner's father came out and talked to me, telling me a different story about how my bike showed up at their shop. I said I'd tell the cops to not come as long as I got my bike back, which the owner's father agreed to. At this point, I had been there for over 2 hours. (To clarify, the owner's father was not there when I got to the shop and first dealt with the bike.) Overall, the entire experience was ridiculous, shady, and infuriating. I've talked to several people who said they've deal with dishonest work and stolen bikes at this shop. I was told that the bike was bought an auction and then the story changed to the bike being dropped off for a repair while the shop was closed. Either way, the bike had a price tag on it for an amount that was above what I paid for it when I bought it refurbished a week prior. Additionally, AND the back wheel was bent and the rear brake wires were popping out. The entire wheel has to be replaced, and it was still being sold for more than what I bought it for. This place stinks, especially the front counter guy with a scraggly black beard that is clearly dyed black. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. She did absolutely nothing for us and we drove about 30 minutes to take our bike to get repaired... We took a bike over a month ago and Jotrisha, the manager, gave us the recommended repairs needed. We agreed to the repairs and dropped off the bike. Since then, we have not had a SINGLE update or call from her. No communication whatsoever. My husband had to call her multiple times throughout the month to get updates or information on the progress and she repeatedly told him there was a national shortage and that the parts were still pending. She kept calling his bike "the old rusted Wal-Mart bike." So unprofessional. She was very rude and condescending to him... So I finally called her as my husband was frustrated with her customer service. She answered my questions in a very sarcastic tone. Instead of acknowledging our concerns and attempting to remedy the situation, she was very defensive, unhelpful, and unapologetic with our situation. I cancelled our repair, picking up the bike this week, and will give our business elsewhere... Your money is hard earned and your time is precious... There are plenty of bike businesses that will earn your business and give you the customer service you deserve. I will not be recommending this place to my friends or family. read more

Must have dropped and lost one of the bolts, took it back to the shop and they let me take a spare and helped me install it free of charge. I went in this hole with high Hope's. I came out with a hundred bucks less in my wallet and a bike that was in worse shape then when I took it to them. I paid 16 bucks to straighten the rim. It is exactly the same as it was. I paid 15 for a brake adjustment. They still run the rim they were supposed to straighten. I had one flat tire so i bought 2 new " heavy duty " ones and paid extra to have them put slime in them. I bought a new seat and I'm happy with that. But I took the bike home and went to ride it the next morning and it had a flat tire. A flat tire before ever even being ridden. I took it back and had them replace the tube again the following week. I looked at these recycled bikes on the sales racks and was shocked. Some had flat tires and some had paint so faded that it rubbed off on me when I touched it. The guy fixing the bikes was trying to act all smart with his prices and say well I can totally rehaul your braking system for this much. Don't try to sound smart guy. You're a bicycle mechanic and look at your inventory. Close this little con artist shop and send these guys home to their little tree house. read more

We bought a used bike at RC for my husband. The salespeople claimed it was good bike that hadn't been used all that much. We happily brought it home. The first time my husband went to ride it, the brakes were hardly working. We returned it to RC, where they then admitted they hadn't actually looked at it much before selling it. They fixed a couple things (for a fee!) and returned it. The next time he rode it, both tires popped. We went back. They realized then that the tires were really old, so they replaced them (again, for a fee). A couple rides later -- another tire popped. At this point, we couldn't handle going back to this disaster of a store, so we went to Performance where they told us the wheels were terribly old and unusable and they also were way too thick for the frame and were rubbing against the frame as they turned!! We've now purchased two new wheels from Performance (increasing the price of the bike by about $100, not to mention all the parking we've paid for due to the unusable bike). We will absolutely never return to this place and could not recommend it in good conscience. UPDATE: Turns out the freewheel is also broken and needs to be replaced. What a scam. Never again will I return to this store. read more

RC has been my go-to for all my bicycle related needs in Tucson, and it should probably be yours too. Everyone in the shop is always super friendly & helpful, and I've always gotten the vibe that they genuinely care about their contribution to Tucson's cycling community. I've brought my bike in for repairs on several occasions, and every time they have had it back to me in good working order very quickly. Their pricing is also very fair, they're definitely not looking to rip you off. I paid a fraction at RC compared to what Fairwheel had once charged me for the same spoke repair. They have a nice variety of new and used bikes for sale, as well as a decent selection of bike gear and tools. If you're in the market for a fixed gear or in need of fixed gear repairs, this is the only place to be. Plus, you can't beat that it's walking distance from campus when you've got a broken whip or a flat tire. read more

Hands down, RC bikes is my favorite bike shop in tucson. I went to RC after going to ordinary bikes to try and order a front rack for my bicycle. I needed it for work, and ordinary said it would take about a month. Rc however had it for me within a week. They were super friendly and helpful and that was just the first of many great experiences I have had here! I have been going to this shop for almost 2 years, and they have done everything from fixing a flat, to building custom wheels, and assembling a mountain bike I had shipped from Wisconsin. Always for a great deal, I would trust my bike with these guys over any other shop. They know what they are doing are knowledgeable about all bikes and have a passion for cycling. If they don't have something you need, they will gladly order it for you. Rc bikes is the place for you no matter what kind of bike you have or need, good deals without any pretentious biker attitude. These guys are legit! Well, they seem to be doing well enough on Yelp without my 5 star review, but here it is anyway! This very morning I was pumping up the tires on the bike I got for my birthday before a nice ride. Apparently, not everybody can pump tires, because the front one exploded. I literally thought someone was shooting at me, so I dove to the ground like some kind of idiot. I Yelped bike repair, and this was the first place that came up. I called to ask them about prices, if I needed an appointment, and if it really was just a tube or if it was likely to be the entire tire. The gentleman was very patient with me and my silly questions. I went in, and explained to the man what happened, and he remembered my call to him. Within 5 minutes and 15 dollars later, I had a heavy-duty tube installed, and he filled my tires for me, since I am apparently really bad at it. I will absolutely be back for any other bike-things I may need! read more

When I first moved to Tucson and needed a bike to get around town, they sold me a used bike for 80 bucks. The bike was not in best shape anymore and did not run as smoothly as s new one would have, but it worked well enough for my purposes and I think the price was fair. I needed to come back a couple of times because of blown out tires/accident and because I wanted to buy more accessories (helmet, basket, lights, lock). Every time I went there, everyone was very friendly and helpful and made time for me. They have a very laid back, welcoming atmosphere in their store. It was always a fun experience and I felt valued as a customer. Regarding my experience with buying accessories at the shop: not only have they always been very patient and happy to help, they also seem to be very honest, i.e., they do not try to sell you the more expensive stuff just to make money. For example, when I asked about baskets and lights, the guy who helped me recommended that I take the cheaper product because it fit my purposes better than the expensive one. As for repairs: I had three blown out tires in a row and then I had an accident with the bike, so the handle bar and some other stuff needed to be fixed. They did almost all of it for free! And I hardly had to wait. They also let you watch while they fix the bike and it is fun to chat with the employees while they fix your bike. Finally, my impression is that the employees are very competent and that they are really passionate about bicycles. So my guess is that this is also a good address for "serious" bicyclists. Edit: reading through the other reviews, I find it remarkable that all of them are either five stars or one star--nothing in the middle. This makes me suspect that, whereas most of the employees at the shop are awesome, maybe there are one or two black sheep at the shop? read more

I highly recommend this bike shop over the Fair Wheel Bikes down the street! JoTrisha was such a big help when one of my tire tubes got a hole in it after just being replaced the same day at Fair Wheel. Jo explained to me that Tucson roads are notorious for popping tires but that the tube from the other shop should have definitely lasted me more than a couple of hours. Turns out there was still debris in the tire that the other guys missed, which just shows the quality of care you will get at RC bikes!! Couldn't be happier with the service here, Jo is very friendly and leads the weekly Tuesday night bike rides on campus and explains things so well and genuinely seemed to care. I had to walk my bike two miles to the shop and she recommended a sturdier bike tube than the standard and it's been holding up really great! 10/10, will be going here from now on! read more

One more 5 star review for RC Bicycles. And it's well deserved! I have been twice, once for myself, once with a friend, and both were amazing. My friend got a new tubed installed speedily, nicely and at a decent price. I went in recently looking for a good lock for my bike. A guy popped out immediately to talk to me and explain the different locks, what would work best, etc. They did not have a huge selection but I found what I wanted. They do repairs and sell bikes and have parts and everything else. There is a parking lot next to them if you don't want to pay street parking at the U of A. I also send my dad here and he had a great experience. They were honest, upfront, and did loads of work on his bike and brought it back into shape. He was happy. read more

It was a nice day so I started walking to the 1st place that was about 1 mile away, the next place was about 1.2 miles from the 1st place and RC was a little less than a mile from the 2nd place. What a great workout? The nice young man working by himself at RC took time to advise me that most people do not attempt to put together their bikes. I explained to him that it was just the front wheel, seat and peddles. Plus, I had no way to get the bike to a shop. So, he gave me some tips and grease and away I went. If I could give them 10 stars, I honestly would. After being treated like pond scum in another locally-owned bike store (since I am not a "true" cyclist) spending time with Raphael made my day. He was fun, funny, engaging, helpful and really knew what he was doing. As someone returning to the bike riding world after many years, I was not in the market for a $1500 bike. That didn't matter to Raphael. You can be certain that when I am ready to upgrade, I will bring the bike that he sold me back and buy another one. After taking my bike to another store to get the seat replaced and breaks fixed, and then only getting a bike back with the seat on but still broken brakes, I took it here and they had it fixed within hours! I'm a college student with a tight budget and they always surprise me with very good deals. I've had my bike fixed there and have also rented bikes there, which was also super cheap! I have a 19 year old tourist from Germany staying with me. He's come away with a crap bike from this place that has broken down several times & he's had to push it for miles in this weather since the first day. He is currently stranded out at the Pima Air Museum, now with a flat tire. He's called them, I've called them & they refuse to do anything. They could at least give renters a puncture kit. If you rent a car you're covered if it breaks down. Way to go for tourism in Tucson. read more
