I have been going there around 65 years. I used to sit up at the bar as a toddler and my parents would get us chocolate shakes. And then there was the shuffleboard table in the middle. Ray's is a great place for us to go have a good meal and enjoy the vibe. Recently moved back to Michigan from SW Fla and bought a place on Long Lake which is 5 minutes from Ray's. Do I miss the super fresh seafood form Fla? You bet I do !! having said that the fish sandwich at Ray's is very good. Nice crunch and great flavor. Everyone mentions the burgers and Thursday night Tacos. Thought a Shout Out on the fish sandwich was missing from the current reviews on Yelp and yes the Burgers and various Appetizers are very good too!! read more

I've been eating here for almost 40 years. My wife and I have been coming here for 20+ years and our kids have been eating here for 16, 12 and 10 years. Everyone was raving about this place. Finally stop in and the place is packed. We decide to get some of their fries to go. Fries are safe...hard to mess up. We order.. Fries come.. We bolt for our car. Soooooooo....fries this marginal do not bode well for their other food being much better. If you turn out such marginal fries it is hard for me to justify coming back. Fries around the corner at the Lone Ranger were 3 bucks...fresh out of the hot oil.... I might give them 1 more chance just cause everyone around these parts swears they are terrific. read more

I would have written this review 10 years ago however this app didn't exist! I was first introduced to Ray's in 2006 by a college friend of mine and was hooked! I think USA Today ranked them as the #2 cheeseburger in the U.S. at some point? As I recall, their burgers are all made to order and served on little paper plates. The onion rings are out of this world! This establishment possible had the best cheeseburger in the Midwest. I cannot count how many times I went here as a college student, but it was worth the drive every time! Back before my last dinner here they had $1 drafts and $1 shots. So much fun! Next time I'm up in Hillsdale County I'll make sure to head here to go back in time! Thanks for making my college life extra special, Ray's! read more

I'm not a local. I stopped in here with some friends on the way back from a weekend lake trip. We walked in about noon. There were probably 10 patrons in the establishment. There's no sign that says seat yourself / please wait to be seated. I make eye contact with a waitress, and she looks away like a teacher was cold-calling her. After two minutes of just standing in the foyer with five others, my friend yells to ask if we should sit or wait. The lady replies, "whatever." We sit at a large table an immediately we are inundated with flies. There were probably 10 flies just cruising our table. With just a screen door and no AC in the summer, it was pretty stuffy. After about three minutes sitting at the table with no interaction from the servers, we just left. We took a few flies with us but didn't think Ray would mind. read more

Hand partied and amazing and burger came out quick! Glad I stopped in here on trip. Definitely coming back if I'm in the area! This is the best place to get a burg. They make them perfect! The buns are grilled, and everything is just perfection!

I am not local to Reading but pass through from time to time and decided to stop and get a double bacon cheeseburger some mushrooms and waffle fries my server was very friendly and professional and when I got to eating my food after a bit of driving it was still very warm and excellent the mushrooms battered well and the waffle fries were cooked perfectly the burger was also the best I have had in years. I will definitely be going through Reading more often to get some food from Ray's read more

Ray's is probably the only reason anybody has ever heard of Reading, Michigan. They are well known for their cheeseburgers. I'm a big fan of the waffle fries. They also have a popular basket of deep fried vegetables. They always have cold beer on tap - be sure to have it served in a frosty mug. read more

I'm open to exploring my culinary options, but in my nearly 30 years of Ray's I have never ordered anything but the cheeseburgers. I see that the reviews are good but I was not impressed. I called in an order and was told 15 to 20 minutes. I planned it to be there in 20 cuz I didn't want to wait. Unfortunately when I got there I was told that a large order came in just before I ordered and it was going to be another 10 minutes. So I ended up having to wait after all. I could have been ok with that and wouldn't have had to write this review if the food had been good. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger...there was no bacon. The burger had no flavor and it tasted a little like it had been frozen. And I guess it's my own fault that I didn't ask ahead of time if the onion rings were frozen or hand dipped. But for the cost they could at least get a better brand of frozen onion ring because these had no flavor either. Actually I think the onion rings I get off the value menu at Burger King taste better for less money. Basically I paid too much money and felt like I had just eaten cardboard. I won't be going back. :-( read more

My father convinced us to drive 20 minutes off the toll road to have lunch. Upon entering, I declared him a wise man indeed. The restaurant was 70% full, indicating one of two things: fine food or limited lunch choices in the area. It would soon become evident that in this case it was the former. We took a seat at the bar and were greeted by the kind bartender. She asked if we wanted menus but my father insisted he didn't, for he had been imagining this meal for last few days and knew exactly what he wanted. His order was a double cheeseburger and waffle fries. It was apparent that my father had been here before, so using his experience the rest of us ordered the same thing. Once the burgers came out, it was obvious that this was not just another average burger, this was a work of art. The combination of the juicy beef, which was cooked to perfection, and the melted, gooey cheese created a sensation that was so delightful, so tasty, tears welled up in my eyes. I looked at my father and gave him a look of pure gratitude for convincing me to come to this holy establishment. There is no possible way that any meal that I will ever have will be half as quality as this. This is the meal that Eragorn deserved after the battle of Helms Deep. There is absolutely nothing that could have made this dining experience any better. read more
