Be prepared to wait and not be helped. If you've ever wondered where your grandpa purchased firearms in the 70's, go to Ray's! It's probably the same staff. Decent inventory but the atmosphere is just sad. Half the store is plumbing supplies with no one in it. The other half is packed with too many people and some nice guns. The AR expert didn't know the difference between 5.56, 2.23 Remmington and 2.23 Wylde. If you want info go to Runner Runner or Frontsight (its worth the drive). Ray's stuffed a 6 foot, 3 year old Brown Bear from AK. I only hope the owners daughter shot it on her 13th birthday. Probably shot it in the ass while it was sleeping. read more

Rays has the best selection in town and knowledgeable sales people. Plenty of accessories to go with your new purchase too.

Firearms and ammo are higher than most stores. Prices are what I look for when shopping for firearm since I do all my research prior. But I do give them credit for ammo available when a lot of places are sold out during ammo shortage. read more

Bought 2 FNS-509's on their website. Was told they would be there in 2 days. I received a call that both guns were at the store and ready for pickup. I I had never heard of Rays before, but the staff was super friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. On top off all of that the gun was $80 bucks per cheaper than Bass Pro. Thanks to the entire staff at Rays for a fantastic first impression. read more

I never buy guns anywhere else, these guys will steer you in the right direction, because they know and do what they tell you. I've bought my deer rifle, thermal scope, and pistol here and each time was guided to the right decision. They also will help you out with what ammunition to choose, and accessories. Very nice, very knowledgeable, these guys are awesome! read more

Yes, Ray's can be expensive if you just look at gun prices, but the service and selection they offer is without peer. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Been a customer since 1970's. They will also sell your gun for you instead of trading it, which means more money in your pocket. read more

Great store, have traded with them for over 35 years. They don't put up with BS (it's a gun store right?), which you'll see is at the heart of a number of the 1-star reviews. Have treated me fairly every time and are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things firearms-related. Repaired the cracked stock on my Rem 700 BDL 243 Heavy Barrel free of charge. read more

To be honest I read Yelp for a laugh; as the cliche goes, everyone is a critic. However every once in a while I read comments that do not make any sense. First Ray's Hardware & Sporting Goods is one of the last "mom and pop" gun and hardware store in Dallas. Like others have mentioned, if you need a rare/hard to find item Rays has it. However they usually charge retail for their guns. Personally I do not mind because it is a "mom and pop" store and the guys behind the counter know their shit. For those who say they are mean/rude, confront or find another salesman...If you can not, a firearm is a poor substitute for balls. I go to Rays because all of my weapons are NFA, google it if you do not know. Rays is a Class III dealer and while they charge retail, the support and advice one gets is immeasurable. The guy who runs the Class III portion is Reid, stand up guy. They are authorized dealers for Surefire, AAC, SilencerCo, and I believe Gemtech suppressors. I will say this up front, I am not your average shooter and I believe in the saying, "Beware the man with only one gun, for he will know how to use it." I see guys at the range with tons of rifles and pistols but absolutely terrible groupings...this is just sad. Point is if you are going to question my words you better have more than a Cerberus-era Bushmaster AR-15 (google it too). I have a lot of experience with two of Rays gunsmiths, Ron and Mark. Ron is the lead gunsmith and I do not have a clue what John M. (below) is talking about. I have had multiple rifles, pistols, and parts modified, fitted, and repaired by Ron without any problems. Ron has always been friendly and eager to help so I have a really hard time understanding the "antisocial personality." In fact I just had a Bar-Sto barrel fitted for an upcoming suppressor project and the turnaround time was literally ONE day. It is almost deer season and their racks were filled with rifles that needed work...yet I got a call next day and picked it up. If this was a review for just the gunsmiths I would give them 5 stars. My go to gunsmiths are Rays, their work and attitude are excellent. I have no personal or business stake with Rays so I am not being coerced to say these things, I find that I am with a select few who have both the time and experience to provide a detailed view on Rays. I highly recommend the gunsmiths for work and the store for those rare/special items. Hope this helps or entertains. read more

I really don't like to do business with this shop but it seems they have firearms that many other shops don't carry. The major item of contention for me is that they will order and then sell used firearms and magazines to you and claim that they are new. Basically, if I am paying new firearm price, then I expect a brand new firearm. Don't sell me a used gun and magazine and tell me it is new. So when you pick up your firearm boys & girls be sure to check it out thoroughly because 2 out 3 chances it will be used. read more

Saw a very specific type of ammo online and Ray's shows it "18 in stock". Drove there and was told, "It's probably in one of our local warehouses. Order it online and we can usually get it in a couple of days." I was a little annoyed but whatever....I ordered the item online on a Tuesday, and called on Friday. Still nothing. Finally today (a full week later) I call and still clear as mud ("UPS shipped it on Friday, I don't know if its here -I'll have to check, can you give me an hour?" was the response). If they had to order it from out of state, I likely could have done it myself and for less money. BE WARNED - in stock DOES NOT mean in stock. They can put all of the disclaimers about stock status on their website, but an item being shipped UPS to arrive at a brick-and-mortar store is NOT "in stock" read more

ALL my repair, modifying, and cleaning of firearms is done by Ray's gunsmiths. There work is excellent and prices are fair. Several of the smiths have been there for years, a good sign. There selection of firearms and accessories are the best and prices are good. I learned about Ray's from a relative who had been going there for over 30 years. Great place. TJS read more

I love these guys. They have the best selection of firearms in North Texas without a doubt. I recently purchased a Wilson Combat 1911 and a Night Hawk Custom 1911 here. I sold a Sig and Kimber also recently to them. I also bought my Wilson AR15 here during the crunch and they had not raised their prices like everyone else. These guys know their guns. With only two exceptions I have purchased every gun I have ever owned here. I have been shopping at Ray's for some 20+ years. The gunsmith here is just the best there is in the area. He is not a big talker but he will fix your gun. They see a lot of people and they see all kinds. Some may think that they are not friendly and that is far from the case. They know their guns and they know people who know their guns. With all that said I would not wear my Obama for President t-shirt here and I am so blue I bleed blue. I roll with the flow. These guys are opinionated and so what, they sell guns and they are not fond of those who would infringe upon our rights to own them. read more

This place is a joke. Their prices are outrageous and their staff is very rude. I would steer clear of this place. They do not believe in customer loyalty and will do anything for a buck. I would not recommend Ray's to anyone. read more

Purchased my first CHL firearm here, have had the gunsmith work on a number of other weapons and they even matched a lower price to keep my business. Knowledge is unmatched and their approach is easy going, makes you feel safe asking any question. While prices maybe 5 to 8% higher depending pon the product, with some cases even being lower on firearms--if you value real customer service from a historic Dallas icon; then it's a deal. A staple in Dallas and gladly support these guys, so they are here for more generations of sportsmen or sportswomen. read more

They didn't have exactly what I was looking for, but they did have an awesome selection and a very friendly and helpful staff. I'm sure I'll be going back at some point! :) read more

I am always impressed with the great customer service at Ray's. Everyone I have worked with their has always been professional, and they constantly exceed my expectations. Reed is a great guy to deal with and Hollis is like an encyclopedia of firearm knowledge. read more

Rays Sporting goods is a great hunting store. I have been coming there for over 17 years and the customer service and wide selection of products, not always found in the larger outlets. Their gunsmiths are some of the best out around. Although things might cost a little bit more, their product knowledge makes up for that to find the right weapon the first time! read more

Started trading at Ray's in the 70s. Got my first T/C there and bought an Indian Arms .380 before that, and traded for the T/C. Old man Ray sat on a high stool at the back and watched everything. His two sons were there too. They would yell back and forth to each other about the products: "what's the best shotgun choke?" and yell back "Improved cylinder". The old man liked to deal. If you tried to bargain he was up for it back then. Your mileage could vary on that! I asked for some Federal shotgun shells. He replied "I hope we don't have them." He then brought out a blown-up Browning double barrel 20 ga. which blew up from a Federal round. Federal had replaced the shotgun to the owner. If the place is packed with non-buyers, they turned off the lights and said, "We're closing". They did that several times a day to clear out the parking lot to make room for buying customers. read more
