I've bought numerous items from Ray's in the past, including my first suppressor. I've always been impressed by their gun selection, which is the best of anywhere I have been in the DFW area so far, and is definitely the best in Dallas proper. Unfortunately, I recently had an experience that left a bad taste in my mouth and will leave me looking elsewhere for my future purchases. I went in on a Friday to sell a used pistol, and the guy who I spoke with gave me an offer of $275. I figured I'd check one or two other shops before pulling the trigger (no pun intended). When it turned out that Ray's had the best offer, I went back Monday evening to sell my pistol. This time, there was an older gentleman on shift in addition to the guy who had given me the original quote. After hemming and hawing, the older guy he said he had no interest in buying the pistol from me since it wouldn't ever sell. (Apparently M&Ps don't sell). I told him I had already been given an offer, but he said he couldn't honor the offer I was given, despite the fact that the guy who gave me that offer was only twenty feet away. In the grand scheme of things, business is business, and I understand if the first quote was a mistake and shouldn't have been given to me; however, to flat out act like I was crazy for wanting to sell my gun for the previous quote--with no apologies--turned me off of this store. If he had apologized and said that offer shouldn't have been made, it wouldn't have been any big deal. I can't buy from a store that operates its business this way. This is a pretty big shame, since (1) they have such a good firearm selection, and (2) there's a guy named Cody who works there who is super friendly and knowledgeable, and will talk to you and answer any questions you have you for as long as you want. If you do shop here, make sure you ask for Cody. I wouldn't trust anybody else at this shop. One last minor comment: If you're buying a gun here, expect to pay FULL manufacturer's MSRP. I compared a S&W M&P 2.0 Compact here against another local store, and ended up getting one (new) from the other store for $100 less. read more

When I called to pick up an item, they told me to email them or they will call me when it's ready. I waited 24 hours for a call that I never received so I called up there again, and they said it arrived yesterday (before the first call) and to come pick it up. After driving 30 minutes there they tell me the cut off is 5:30.. it was 5:33. Lazy? Incompetent? Maybe both? Thanks for making a very simple process a pain. read more

I've got nothing but praise for Ray's. I'm 51 years old and I remember going there with my dad as a young boy. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and don't try too hard to make the sale. Prices are usually well below MSRP and I've bought A LOT of guns from them. Ordering from their online website is a breeze and the gun is usually ready for pickup with 2 days. Went in over the weekend to check on a professional gun cleaning and left with a new revolver... This place is huge and has a massive selection of choices for everyone. The layout is well done and they have plenty of people on staff to assist you. It's hunting season and they were jam packed during my visit. The gun smith is upstairs (enter, turn left), guns are down to the right and hardware to the left. I wanted a professional cleaning but opted not to do it with $100 fee and 3 to 4 week wait for return. I think it's a mixed bag of nuts for sure... you can tell they have the conspiracy types, far right leaning, but almost everyone was cool. I only had one guy who clearly didn't care for me... you can't please everyone can you? Perhaps he doesn't think women should own firearms... whatever his issue I could see him shaking his head. I dry fired a few guns and that seemed to make him seriously nervous. Listen, I'm about to drop coin on this thing and I like to know what the lbs of pressure are... I don't like a hair trigger, but I don't want an overly heavy one. Get over it. My background check took all of 3 min or less and there I was breaking out the credit cards. they even had zombie ammo with green goo center shot... hilarious. I liked the guy who helped me out, he didn't treat me like an idiot and showed me whatever I wanted to see. I took off a star for high end prices AND for the guy shaking his head at me. I just move from Kalifornia and wanted to get my bullet button removed. Walked right upstairs to the gun smith.. He was super friendly and had the parts in stock . Told me round 30 minutes. So I wandered downstairs and took a look around. The guys behind the counter were informative and helpful, but WOW are their guns expensive! Was looking at gun "a" . This place is very small. And the prices may be higher... BUT YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE CUSTOMER SERVICE! And for me to help keep a family owned Business open is well worth the few extra dollars! I've been to this store multiple times over the past year spending upwards of $2,000 in goods. I've always known the prices are 1/3 more for same products at other local sporting good stores but kept coming due to being close to our home. 3 weeks ago while shopping I had multiple items in hand and requested a shopping cart or something to carry our supplies in. The staff knows me there and gave me a shopping bag. Shortly after there were 2 gentleman following me and I was confronted like I was attempting to steal something! Wow so I kindly put all goods at the counter and continued to shop. I brushed this 1 time encounter off as most of the guys know me well all good things happen. Today while shopping again I found a used stock that one of there customers left with them as he or she apparently got there's replaced with a new model. Upon asking the price of the used stocks (damaged ones cracks ect.) the salesman/ gunsmith said $100 I kindly asked if they would take $50 as I would have to repair and modify the part to repair a friends stock. Instead of saying no we have more $$ involved (broken stock was free for them) the rep looked at me and rudely said this is not a wholesale store I am in the wrong place we could be working making money instead of negotiating with me.. ugh last time I will ever be here I used to promote this store telling everyone. You can count on me steering clear of this place now and letting everyone I know to do the same. There are lots of sporting good stores with the same products and smithing work done for 1/2 the cost and same or better quality. Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere! I trust the staff at Ray's. They don't try to sell you anything, they educate their customers and then let you make the best decision for you. They are not trying to push what is in stock. If they don't have something, which is very rare they order it for you. Hollis is the AR man! He knows more about guns than anyone I have ever met! Hollis is like a walking Wikipedia for guns. The guys at Ray's shoot the stuff they sell so they can advise you from experience not from what a magazine says. I've noticed they have product in all price ranges. Bad customer service, they won't answer a question by phone. They tell you to come in to their store. You come up to this place and you need to get on a line of people to ask the question. They have 4-6 people working inside the building and they only have 2 persons taking care of customers. The rest are are standing around, or walking around supervising the other employees. People call the store and the employee answering the phones tells people that they have lots of customers, and they are always busy. Bad place to come and spend your money. This review is probably one of the most challenging Yelp reviews that I've ever written, due to the mixed emotions that I have regarding my experience. I currently hold a VALID Texas License To Carry permit (LTC) and have had it since my 21st birthday, which was 8 years ago. I have never been arrested or involved in any criminal behavior or anything. I have bought multiple firearms from several other places and have never had to go through the background process. I went to Ray's Sporting Goods on yesterday to buy another firearm and a background check was ran on me for some strange reason, and it resulted in my purchase being "delayed". I called the TX Department Of Public Safety today and they confirmed that my LTC is valid and has always been in good standing. The customer service agent also found it odd that the store performed a background check on me, although I provided them with my LTC. In addition, I also spoke with the FBI today and they also informed me that in the state of Texas, LTC holders DO NOT have to go through the background check process, as the LTC basically is the background check and I'd only just need to complete a form before purchasing the firearm. I discussed my experience with many other firearm stores and they told me that I should not have experienced this as a valid LTC holder. Other than that part of my experience, Cody was a great and knowledgeable guy to work with. His customer service skills were 5 star, but I'd have to give the company overall a maximum of 2 stars because of their practices. If I was able to be refunded my money the same day, I'd honestly take my $1400 and spend it with a hassle-free company that recognizes and honors my LTC. read more

I really had a bad experience since the beginning I walk then I'm not sure because I'm brown or because of something else only the Hispanic people there which is one person seem to help getting help was just a key it'll matter what or who can help me I really don't understand why they have a four-star due to the bad service so anyhow I went there and bought a gun the guy said that I needed a hunting license in order to purchase a gun purchase a hunting license then Went ahead to try to buy the gun background came negative which I also don't understand why I have a clean record never committed any type of crimes the guy charged me $75 for the background check when online you can easily get one for eight dollars didn't understand that and also the guy charge me for the taxes for a grant that I did not purchase so anyways I spent about four days trying to purchase a gun of $320And I got back $218 that means I waste my time with these people and I spent $100 really for nothing and they cannot give me an exclamation of why I got the night I will never stop at the store ever not because of the background check but because the way I was treated it look like the main guy or the manager was giving me an insinuation that I was not given a gun because I was a brown or Hispanic I haven't filled out like that in a long time I just know that is wrong when people give you that type of attitude just because your skin color anyhow I wouldn't recommend anybody and I just Hispanic people to go to this place and try to get a gun. I got a gun at a different place they run a background check and passed it on the first try do you have any issues with him I don't it's just a matter of buying a gun that simple. read more

This place looks like a prison, but when you're in this part of town with this kind of weaponry, I think it goes with the territory. I got my first pellet gun, first shotgun and my first .22 magnum at this joint. This store has been here for decades, and I've been coming here for almost 30 years. Some of you may recognize this store from the movie Borat when Borat was attempting to buy a gun to kill a Jew. I recognized the setting immediately when I saw the movie because there is a Blauser case in the background (extremely rare), and I've seen the fellow that appeared in scene. The guy in that scene (wearing the cowboy hat actually works here part time). I wouldn't bring up the subject though because it is a touchy one here. Borat actually asked him which handgun would be good to hunt a pig, and then he asked the question about the jew; and the guy refused to answer it. But the filmmakers edited the scene to make it look like the guy actually recommended a gun to kill a jew. This store carries mostly high-end merchandise. They have a small selection of assault weapons, but they can order just about anything. They carry Beretta, Weatherby, Blauser (Sigarms), Taurus, Walther, S&W, and too much stuff to name. They also carry Filson products, and too my knowledge they're the only ones in the metroplex that sells them. They also have a small hardware section, and there is a gunsmith on-sight. I highly recommend the gunsmith too. They did an awesome job restoring an old 7mm Mauser rifle that I inherited. When ammo was scarce earlier this year, they always seemed to have it in stock. Definitely call this place if you're in the market for a rifle. There's a reason they've been around for so long, and service is EXCELLENT. read more

Ray's is what every gun store should strive to be. They have an awesome selection of firearms but also all the accessories to go with them. I was impressed with the knowledgeable staff and service they offered. I was asked by 3 different people if I needed anything or if they could show me something. That is very refreshing as opposed to some gun stores I've been in where you need to take a number and the staff is just trying to get rid of you as quickly as they can so they can clear their queue. But I was also impressed with their knowledge of each weapon and it was clear that they study what they sell. I couldn't get anything the day I was there but I will be back for sure. read more

What a disappointment of a place. They have a very nice selection but that's where it about stops. I've been here twice, once to purchase a firearm and the second mistake was trying to purchase another. I left work trying to make it before they closed, I was wanting to make a purchase and called and informed the gentlemen of the situation. Trying to buy a lower but work far away, this was the second attempt. When I called a girl answered the phone I asked for a specific weapon and she verified they had it. When asking additional questions she handed the phone off, I let the individual know that I was running late by maybe 5 minutes. He said well if you get here before 6 we can make it happen. I asked since I was for sure buying the item could they make an exception and stay open for 5 minutes and explained my situation. He said well I hope you make it on time and just hung up. I got there right at 6 everything was already locked down. I understand these are business hours but I called and they guys attitude was and they way he talked to clients was very upsetting. read more

Made a 30 mile drive to get to this store. I am glad I did. Really feels exciting to walk into a firearm store and find a large selection of product. This store will have accessories that you will find hard to find for your firearm. Large selection of new and used pistols, rifles and supplies. Not in the best part of town but did not bother me. The staff seemed to be very helpful. Not too pushy, but would actually make eye contact with customers and ask if they needed any help finding something. It is a large store and if you are not familiar with it, you will need someone to point for you. The only con would be the posted pricing on their pistols was pricey. I did not buy so I dont know if they negotiate. Great place to shop otherwise. read more

This is my first yelp review and my 1st written complaint, ever. I tried to order a suppressor at Rays. I did online research before showing up and knew exactly what I wanted and also knew they had a SilencerCo kiosk to help with the process. Two different staff members at different times over about an hour long experience pointed me to the salesman who could help me order the suppressor. But the whole time I was there that silencer specialist salesman was explaining the most basic non-silencer related things about firearms to a customer. This salesman was explaining things to the other customer so loudly it was annoying. You could hear him clear across the store and even in the foyer. Meanwhile the other 2 staff did ask which silencer I wanted, but they never helped me. One casually ate a sandwich and watched. The customer that was occupying the silencer staff guy wasn't even buying a silencer and didn't even know if he wanted a rifle or a handgun for his 1st gun. The silencer salesman should have switched off with one of the two other unoccupied staff to help the new gun buying customer with his basic questions. I waited almost an hour and was never helped. After finally giving up and leaving, I drove 20 minutes to DFW Shooting Sports and was warmly greeted, literally before the door closed behind me, upon entering their store. I plan on making all future purchases at DFW Shooting Sports based on this experience. read more

Awesome store. I put my name on the list for a very hard to find Colt .380. I never expected to get a call back, but to my surprise, I was called the morning the gun came in. The guys here are helpful and knowledgeable. They can walk you through any questions you might have, and as a woman...just learning the ropes...I think they are incredibly supportive. Be prepared to wait and not be helped. If you've ever wondered where your grandpa purchased firearms in the 70's, go to Ray's! It's probably the same staff. Decent inventory but the atmosphere is just sad. Half the store is plumbing supplies with no one in it. The other half is packed with too many people and some nice guns. The AR expert didn't know the difference between 5.56, 2.23 Remmington and 2.23 Wylde. If you want info go to Runner Runner or Frontsight (its worth the drive). Ray's stuffed a 6 foot, 3 year old Brown Bear from AK. I only hope the owners daughter shot it on her 13th birthday. Probably shot it in the ass while it was sleeping. read more
