Lunch special wings & ribs & fingers
Alex K.

New menu and items. I really love this long time Needham restaurant. They have some dishes that are outrageously good, like their chicken wings and ribs which are simple items on every Chinese food menu; but they do them great here. I recommend the sesame beef. It's sweet like candy. Pictured is the lunch special plus I added an extra app

Combo plate (boneless ribs and beef teriyaki with pork fried rice) and an egg roll added on

First visit to Ray's New Garden (Needham MA), walkable from the heart of downtown Needham but off the beaten path. Convenient parking lot. Japanese and Chinese. Bar area has high tops and many large TV screens playing sports. Weekend lunch visit had only one server (the bartender), but she handled the crowd admirably. Egg Roll: Available at $4 each (no need to commit to two), an easy bar snack or combo add-on. Big props for this. Very crunchy, somewhat moist, and generously loaded with bright red roast pork crumbles. Good flavor even without duck sauce, but the duck sauce helped the moisture along. Solid. Combo Plate: These are available for lunch daily and include soup, but also available after 3pm for a $1 upgrade and no soup. Reasonable. I went with the boneless ribs and beef teriyaki combo with pork fried rice and hot and sour soup, adding on an egg roll (c'mon, a no-brainer). Details follow: - Hot & Sour Soup: On the thin side texturally but strong of flavor, bringing the sour and the peppery of the peppercorn and vegetable kind. Piping hot and tasty with dense vegetable inclusions. - Boneless Ribs: Thin-cut, very bright red, very well coated, very moist (juicy even), and very tender. Taste and texture about as perfect as can be. Zero fat or gristle, zero dry spots. Only lightly charred, but flavor was still there. One of the best I've ever had. - Beef Teriyaki: Definitely moist, definitely not bland, and none of that elephant skin texture nonsense you fear (okay, maybe not you, but I fear) when you order beef teriyaki. Tender too. Only thing though--and it's not necessarily a bad thing--is that the lacquer was the same red stuff as on the boneless ribs. So it might not hit that beef teriyaki ideal, or it might not be best paired with ribs, but a solid showing. - Pork Fried Rice: Simply put, this was good rice, but more in the rice pilaf realm for flavor and texture than the classic old school New England Chinese Food variety, so a bit of a letdown, but doable. Decent pork inclusions though. Singapore Noodles: Vegetarian wife ordered these with the vegetable option. She's generally not a fan of suburban Chinese but raved about how fresh tasting and surprisingly non-oily they were.

My niece liked her sushi rolls (spicy tuna and California).

The restaurant was fairly empty when we were here on a holiday week. There were more guests within the bar area than the dining room so we had our choice of tables. The menu is varied. There were typical Chinese dishes like beef and broccoli, chicken with black bean sauce, lemon chicken, and lettuce wraps. There is also an extensive sushi menu. My niece, who has a tiny appetite, ordered both the California and spicy tuna rolls and ate them both (a rarity). My brother had the chow fun, which he wished contained more noodles. I liked the orange beef I ordered, coated, fried beef in a flavorful sauce. Note that rice is available as a side (for an additional cost). The restaurant does a brisk takeout business, as well. Our server was new and did a great job.

Rice, beef teriyaki and boneless.

RiceBurg Wellesley is a casual restaurant that combines Asian-inspired flavors with a burger…read moreconcept using rice buns instead of traditional bread. We walked into a bright, modern space with a straightforward setup that keeps the focus on the food. The interior is clean and functional, designed around counter service and quick turnover, and the energy stays casual and approachable throughout the meal. It feels like the kind of place where you can stop in for a quick meal without the formality of a sit-down restaurant, and the steady flow of customers reflects its popularity as a neighborhood spot for something different. The rice burgers are the main highlight. We ordered the chicken katsu rice burger and found the rice buns gave the burger a different texture, making it feel lighter than a traditional burger while still being filling. The rice held together well and provided a subtle nuttiness that complemented the crispy chicken and savory sauce. The sauces and toppings matched the rice base naturally, and the combination of textures, from the crispiness of the chicken to the softness of the rice buns, made each bite feel balanced and satisfying. The bowls are also a solid choice if you prefer something more traditional, with options like katsu and bulgogi-style flavors that offer the same Asian-inspired profile in a more familiar format. The katsu bowl came with a generous portion of crispy chicken over rice, topped with a rich sauce and fresh vegetables, and the bulgogi bowl offered a savory, slightly sweet flavor that held up well against the rice and vegetables. The fries and sides are another strong part of the menu. They have a more unique style compared to typical fast-food fries, with a light crispness and seasoning that made them stand out, and they paired well with the main dishes. The menu has enough variety that you can come back and try different items instead of feeling limited to just the rice burgers. Service was friendly, and the food came out efficiently, with the staff handling the steady flow during peak times without making the experience feel rushed. RiceBurg is a fun take on fusion comfort food. The rice burgers, creative flavors, and variety of options make it stand out from typical burger spots, offering a meal that feels familiar yet distinct, and a place worth visiting when you want something with a different twist.

Great quality and creative options. Chicken katsu curry and scallion pancakes were fantastic.read more

We were looking forward to relaxing, enjoying some good food and having a little sake. We've been to Masa several times before and our previous experiences have generally been very good. The food is consistently delicious and the hibachi chefs usually put on a wonderful and entertaining show. Unfortunately, the wait staff can sometimes be less than pleasant, although we were fortunate to have a great male waiter that evening and our chef was entertaining as well. Our waiter was doing his best, but he was busy attending to the other tables. At one point we had dirty soup and salad bowls sitting on our table and there was simply no room left for them. We tried to hand them to one of the female waitstaff members who was nearby, thinking it would be a simple and reasonable request. To our surprise, she flat out refused to take them and told us that we needed to wait for our waiter. Given that the restaurant was busy, this came across as unnecessarily unhelpful and added to our frustration with the service. Things were going very well until around 8:30 PM. We were seated in the back section with several other families and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Then a very large group of young adults arrived, apparently celebrating some type of event. They came in with oversized speakers and began playing very loud music, parading and dancing around the restaurant and generally taking over the atmosphere. What was especially disappointing was that the restaurant staff did not appear to do anything to address the situation. The noise and disruption became so excessive that it completely changed the experience for everyone seated in the back section. Families who had been enjoying their dinners began leaving, including my family. What should have been a relaxing Friday night dinner turned into an extremely loud and uncomfortable experience. I want to emphasize that we have enjoyed Masa Hibachi many times in the past. The food is good, the hibachi chefs are entertaining and when the atmosphere is under control, it can be a great place for a family dinner, etc. Unfortunately, the lack of intervention that night, combined with some of the service issues, really hurt the experience. If you're looking for a quiet or relaxing family dinner, I would strongly recommend avoiding Masa on Friday or Saturday nights, especially later in the evening. Based on our experience, it can turn into a madhouse and the restaurant should do a better job of making sure one large group doesn't ruin the experience for everyone else.

I want to preface this by saying that I am not sure if the buffet is always this large since there appeared to be an event happening the day I was there, but they seated me on the side and I was able to get food very quickly. There is an interesting rule they have where instead of clearing your plate, you bring it up to the front and put it in a tub, but the signs were pretty clear so no issues there. Also, there were signs that said you can request rice and naan from your waiter but this particular Sunday they had them in the buffet line. Some highlights were: Butter Naan: Pretty standard but crispy on the underside and soft on top. Really great for dipping in the sauces and chutneys. Bonus points for the pappadom too which was crispy and yummt. Drinks - Masala Chai and Sharbat: I wasn't a fan of the Sharbat since it tasted a bit like rose, but the Masala Chai was warm and homey. You could add sugar as well but I preferred mine unsweetened. Cauliflower Manchurian: This was by far the best dish there. The cauliflower was crispy and well seasoned - crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. I got a whole half plate of this at one point it was so good. I'd honestly go back just for this dish. Chili Fish: Surprisingly they had some seafood at the buffet! The fish was slightly spicy and fried with a nice flavor to it. Nothing over the top but just having fish at a buffet is a huge win. Lamb Biryani and Lamb Rogan Josh: I was surprised to see two lamb dishes at a buffet where I was expecting none. The meat in both was slow cooked and tender, and the biryani rice was very well flavored and a perfect way to soak up some of the sauces when I didn't want to eat too much naan to fill up. Dahi Puri: There was a table to the side where you could order Dahi Puri and Pani Puri as well as samosas. I didn't get a samosa but I ordered a Pani Puri. However, they delivered a Dahi Puri to my table instead, but it still tasted great - yogurt on the inside with crispy bits but be aware that ordering 1 came with 5 pieces! Rice Kheer with Pineapple: Loved that there was a dessert option and that it wasn't too sweet. It was a nice and refreshing way to end the meal. All in all the selection was HUGE and delicious, and to only have to pay $17.99 for this on a weekend is amazing. I do want to note again that there may have been an event so not sure if the menu is the same all of the time, but I will definitely be back!

The food was interesting, the saag was blended to smoother creamy sauce with a hint of mushroom or truffle which was unexpected. The food was generally too spicy hot for mild. We are glad we didn't order spicier. naan was delicious. Salad was huge - enough for four to six people. Food tasted good. Good presentation. Staff could work on clearing plates earlier or using smaller plates. The table was absolutely cluttered unnecessarily. A few things stood out as questionable. Our waiter seemed a little spacy. Order didn't go in on time and then also forgot details. So maybe our food was spicier bc he forgot that we ordered mild. Also, I noticed water dripping from the kitchen ceiling and this kind of took away my appetite. Staff very apologetic for delays in our food order.

I was surprised to find it in Boston - they really keep up with the times! Although it looks a little different from the Chinese version, it was still very tasty, and it was the only dish we finished! The beef was incredibly tender, the roasted peppers had a great smoky flavor, and it was savory with a hint of spiciness. The sauce was thick and very good with rice. However, the tofu was a bit rough; it wasn't made with soft tofu, which didn't quite match the overall flavor. Shrimp with Salted Egg Yolk 鹹蛋黃焗蝦球: The shrimp were very large, with a firm yet tender texture. The outer shell was fried to a crispy perfection, and it was served piping hot. The salted egg yolk coating was just the right thickness and very fragrant, but it became a bit too sweet and cloying towards the end. Gele Mountain Spicy Chicken 歌樂山辣子雞: The chicken was fried until crispy and had a delicious spicy flavor. A bit too spicy for me from Guangdong. Grandma's Style Mashed Potatoes with Crispy Pickles 老奶脆菜土豆泥: A pleasant surprise! The mashed potatoes were generally smooth and creamy, with a few lumps, but still acceptable. The seasoning was slightly spicy, and the crunchy pickles added a touch of sourness, freshness and flavor.
