I have a 2002 S 500 Mercedes which of course is out of warranty. I started having some issues with the car and was told to take it to Rays Automotive. The first service that Ray did was a total tune up on my car. I did price the job out at several other locations and Ray came in $500 under the lowest competitor. When I got the car back it purred like a kitten. It had more get up and go then it had in years and best of all my miles per gallon increased by around 15% saving me hundreds of dollars in gas. Several months later I started having issues with my brakes, which I had not replaced in quite a while. I took the car to Rays and once again he priced his job $350 less than any competitor and he of course did a first class complete brake job on the car. From that time on I became a believer in Rays automotive. He has worked on my car several times since then always doing a great job in a timely manner. One of the many things I respect about Ray is if it is not something he feels comfortable doing, he will refer me to a third party that he trusts. That happened with the catalytic converter that had to be replaced. I got quotes from other locations in the $1100 range but Ray referred me to a company in Oceanside that did it for around $600 and did it for me while I waited for the car. They also spoke highly of Ray. I have read the several negative reviews written about Ray's,but I can assure you Ray's in a first class operation. I could take my car anywhere but the only place that I would go is Rays and I would and have recommended Ray to others. I am giving my 2002 to my niece and I can assure you, Ray will be servicing that car as long as it is still on the road and with Ray behind it it will be on the road for years to come. read more

Frankly I am blown away by the couple bad reviews, there has to be a lot more to it than eye contact. I discovered Ray in 1994 and have been taking my cars to him since. What I dislike about most auto repair shops is you know they are kind of like Dentists, once they have your mouth open EVERYTHING needs to be fixed when all you wanted was a cleaning. Ray has NEVER done that to me. In fact he has told me things that I thought should be fixed didn't need repair and he has saved me enough money over the years to probably by an entire new car. Have we repaired something and the repair not do the job or breaks squeak? Yes and he has ALWAYS made it right immediately. Ray has even sent me to other people to do specialty work he does not do and the folks he sends me to give me great pricing because they like Ray. I have 3 kids and 5 cars from exotic to a Caravan. he takes care of them all. If I could give him 10 stars he would get them all. As fort someone that will look you in the eye. GET A CLUE folks, he is not a therapist, he is an auto mechanic! They work on cars because they do not need to have eye contact with their owners. I don't care if he looks me in the eye, but I do want him to see what's wrong with my car and that he does extremely well. read more

I know cars. Used to build dunebuggies. Was looking for a good, honest, knowledgeable mechanic locally after getting a couple outrageous quotes on repairs from a dealership. Got referred to Ray by a friend and have been very impressed. He's good at figuring out what's wrong, has a great feel for cars, only fixes what needs fixing, gives good advice, and balances preventative maintenance against not spending more than you need to. I've used him for a several repairs and replacing pads and rotors and he's done a great job on everything at a fair price - well below what the dealership wanted. He's a bit quirky, but a really good guy. I've found my mechanic... Highly recommended. ...Follow up 4 months later. Have gone in with a couple additional problems and in both cases Ray quickly and accurately identified what was wrong and fixed it at minimum cost. Can't say enough good things about him. I am very impressed with Ray's Auto. In fact, I just created an account on Yelp so I could write a review about my experience there. I took my car in after hearing my breaks squeak and was sure I'd have to at least have the pads replaced. When I got there he was working on another car but stopped what he was doing and did a full break inspection, lubed up my breaks, tested them and informed me that the problem was solved. I was prepared to hear a list of problems but there were none. He was so honest and helpful and did more than I expected. I insisted I'd pay for his time but he refused to except my tip. After sharing this with some friends and clients, I learned I wasn't the only one that had great things to say about him. read more

I've finally found a repair shop to maintain my cars at really fair prices. I had a saturn that wouldn't shift right, took it to another shop that charged me $800 for a torque convertor and I still had the same problem. They said I needed a new transmission. I was recommended to Ray's for a second opinion. Ray identified the problem first and gave me an estimate of only $200, so I had them replace the part and my car has worked like new ever since. I recommended all my friends and family to go see Ray. I' also trust them with my pride and joy '67 Mustang Fastback. These guys are great! I've had dependable, honest service from Ray for 15 years! Over about 6 cars that I owned, Ray has always been totally trustworthy. His small shop is busy enough that they do not recommend work that does need to be done. He and his workers have always been honest and straight with me, giving me choices, clearly outlining options, and the ultimate decision. They do not use cheap parts, they have had to replace things that some other shops in town did when I thought I would save money.
