Here's my story about Ray Gordon's Brake Service: I took my 2014 Highlander (~107,000 miles) in to Ray Gordon's on a Monday after a few weeks of a worsening brake noise from the right side; they gave me an appointment for the following Thursday. Somehow I forgot the right day, and took the car in on Wednesday. Although they were busy, the manager told me to leave it for an hour and they would squeeze me in to see what the problem was; I walked down Capital Circle to Publix to have a Coke while I waited. 45 minutes later the manager called me to tell me the rear rotors and pads were worn through and needed replacement, they could do it then in about 3 hours, or I could make an appointment and bring it back in a few days. I replied that I couldn't wait three hours -- a close friend of mine with a terminal condition was being med-evacuated the following morning to his family in Dallas, and this was my last chance to see him. There was a pause at the other end of the line, and the manager said: give us 75 minutes and we'll have it ready for you. 80 minutes later I was back in my car, brakes fixed, on my way to a last visit with my old friend. Excellent knowledgeable mechanics. I have a 2018 Range Rover and that no one else in town was able to service the brakes because they did not have the knowledge expertise or equipment needed to remove the rotors or the computer software needed to put the vehicle into service mode. I got a quote from over $1300 at range rover to fix my problem and we did a complete fluid swap out and corrected my problem for under $300.. very excited to find a shop in town that's not after the almighty dollar and does great work at a reasonable price. A few years ago I took my 2015 Honda in. They did a great job. A few weeks ago I took an old Sienna in. the repair cost was about $1,500. "before I pay, could I drive it round the block to see if it seems better after the repairs", I asked. "No I can't let you do that" said Ben, quite spontaneously, "but something seems to be rubbing, is it still like that", "you need tires" they said and that should fix the bump sound. went to Coscto got four new tires, bump sound still there, took it back to Ray Gordon Brakes. "you'd have to drop it off, we are very busy". dropped off, returned. "we thinks it's a transmission issue" I got back home, realized they'd forgot to put back one hub cap. called Ben, he said it may be in the back, I said ok and that I would drive down next week to get it. just went in. AS SOON AS I WALKED IN THE DOOR. Ben says, without even making eye contact and in a dismissal tone "We don't have the huh cap" I left, but called him and said. I knew the hubcap. he now says WHEN YOU BROUGHT THE CAR IN THERE WAS NO HUB CAP ON. i said get your story straight: a) why did you tell me it was in the back? b) all four wheels had hub caps on, I just replaced all tires, so I had checked. c) if you knew you didn't have the hubcap why did you not call and tell me v making me drive all the way back? d) prove to me my car was missing a hub cap, when you said just a week ago it's in the back. A few years ago this place was honest. but my experience with Ben and the BS makes me opine that they may be less than. read more

The shop replaced my brakes last year. After picking up the vehicle, I noticed that the brakes squeaked when I pressed and released the pedal for the first couple of weeks. The problem then ceased. Earlier this year, the squeaking returned, and I had to pump the brakes in order to get the vehicle to stop. When I returned the vehicle to the shop to get the mechanics to inspect the vehicle, the man at the desk told me that the shop could not find an issue with the brakes, and that the problem stemmed from my tires. I had all four tires replaced a week later. Three weeks after replacing all tires, the brake problem recurred, with both my husband and I noticing the issue. I took my vehicle to the shop a second time to get the mechanics to address the problem. At this second visit, the man at the desk told me that the problem was likely my ABS system. I then told him that the problem was not a result of the tires or the ABS system; the problem is with the brake job itself. I emphasized that we did not have an issue with the brakes until I brought the vehicle to that shop to have the brakes replaced. I am extremely dissatisfied with the work done and the non-response or evasiveness on the part of employees. read more

Extremely pleased with my service! I brought my vehicle in due to the fact that the brakes were making weird grinding noises. I didn't know exactly what was wrong and I don't really trust non-dealership mechanics (bad experience in the past). I'd heard good things about Ray Gordon's, however- so i chose to give them a try. My appointment was at 7:30 am, and while the technician was a little late (they opened closer to 7:50), they were polite and efficient in getting my car in the shop. After giving my vehicle a look over, the technician called me and worked with me on my options. rather than charge me for a more expensive fix, they worked out a solution that would be more practical for me and my wallet. By the time i left with my car, i had actually spent less than i had planned! my brakes no longer grind, and the technician also gave pointers so I can keep it from happening again. The shady and unethical business that this place has caused me $500 in damages to my car. They use inferior quality brakes that have been nothing but trouble. The brand new brakes start squealing and grinding after a few weeks. They also gave me defective brakes which gouged my rotor.... That alone cost me $500 to get replaced. By far the best place. Honest good work, quick response time, and they work hard at getting you in quickly. Prices are very reasonable and love that they aren't taking advantage of the college students in the area! I've been here now for work on 3 different cars and all are working perfectly with no problems. Definitely a place I will continue to go back to again and again! Spoke to Charlie at the counter and he was very knowledgeable and patient and made sure I knew everything that was going on with my car when I left it and called me before doing anything we didn't talk about to talk me through it all again. If i could give them a negative star i would. I've been doing business with them for 20 year, something has changed. I took a truck in to get a brake job and it cost me $586 (not cheap - btw, this included a $68 dollar charge to "flush the brake system" and then on top of that another charge of $12 for "shop supplies and hazardous waste disposal") When i got it back i noticed three things 1) soft pedal 2) emergency brake would not work, 3) brake lite on the dash would not go off. I set up an appointment to get it fixed, dropped it off and walked to my office and got a call from them (Jeff?) who tried to convice me that the emergency brake did work, said he would have to charge me $88 dollars to find out why my emergency brake light would not go off (not to fix it just to diagnose) and the that might take two hours or two days, and that the brakes were not soft. We've been going to Ray Gordon brake service for a number of years, for our cars and our children's cars. I took mine in today and they inspected it and told me I didn't need any work on it yet, there was still life left in my brake pads. No charge for the inspection either, since we'd been in with another car within the year. Point is, they're honest, they do good work, and they're reasonably priced - they even have coupons on occasion. Highly recommend. read more

I was most disappointed in the quality of customer service yesterday. I called them yesterday around lunchtime to inquire about closing time so that I could drop my vehicle off to be serviced the next day. I spoke to Jeff and he told me to bring my car around 5:00pm to ensure that it would be secured in the garage overnight because they closed at 5:30pm. After making arrangements to make sure that I make it to the service center before 5:00pm, I was most disappointed and shocked that they had already closed for the day!!! It was 4:50pm!!! They didn't even have the decency to leave a note of apology on the door!!!! read more

Very unimpressed with Ray Gordon Brake Service. After paying for new Powerstop pads and brake rotor resurfacing, front and back, fourteen months ago, at a total price of $279, they wanted to charge me an $18 inspection fee to look at my brakes today after major vibrations in my steering wheel caused by the very rotors they resurfaced. And they assured me that since I was beyond the 12 month labor warranty, I would be paying the full labor price for whatever they found that needed to be repaired.
