Had used another shop in town for years. They were bought out and the new owners would not honor any old customers warranties. Fine, I'll look some where else with integrity. Jake's has been around over 30 years and I gave them a try. I needed tires rotated and asked that the brakes be checked during the process. All was good and no work was needed. I expected to pay for the rotation and leave. Got to the counter and was told no charge! They said they needed the tires off to check the brakes and rotated tires for free! I'm from out of town and used yelp to find Jake's Brakes. The computer in my truck was pumping out error messages and I'd spent $3500 on replacing a master brake cylinder (twice) in a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 at a dealership (not in Tallahassee). The dealership was going to have me bring it in again so they could contact the GM parent company a 2nd time to try again to figure it out. Jake's figured out the problem in 5 minutes. Jake's Brakes was one of the three things I seriously considered when I was deciding to leave Tallahassee. I had a doctor I trusted, those awesome fruit tarts at Au Peche Mignon, and I had Jake. Back in the early '90s I worked at a pizza delivery place. I went to some shop to get brake work done, and they were squealing a few weeks later. My boss grabbed me by the shoulders and said "Jake's Brakes! Jake's Brakes! Never take it to anyone but Jake's Brakes!" And it was Jake's Brakes ever since. I've had weird recurring problems in my Chevy Blazer that they worked on (sometimes for free) until they were fixed for good. I took an old Pontiac Catalina in there and told Jake that everything seemed fine but when I turned onto my street, if I had the windows down I would hear this faint jingly sound, like paperclips being shaken in a tin can. Jake made a face, hmm'd a bit, and then diagnosed the problem and fixed it - with nothing to go on but paperclips in a tin can. Another time, when he sold me a set of tires that weren't very expensive, he told me that those are the only tires he will put on his daughter's car. Okay then! I always felt heard. I never ever felt cheated or compromised. Jake treats his customers like you're his partner in making your car better. I just adore him, his shop, and his staff. read more

My 2018 Ford 150 brakes went out at 29000 miles. I was reluctant to take it to the Tallahassee Ford, because Not only are they overpriced, but at times the work quality is shoddy. I've always had good luck at Jake's Brakes and the prices were comparable to a dealership. It's best if you make an appointment, but they can take your car in that day and at least give you an estimate. They are very efficient and effective. They started to work on my car early the next morning but ran into a snag with my parking brake cable. They found a brake cable and installed it right away by the end of the day, I picked up my vehicle with all new brakes and rotors for a price comparable what I would've paid at a dealership. The warranty is very good as well. I would not even hesitate to recommend Jakes Brakes to anybody needing a brake job on their vehicle. read more

Even if it's for something other than brakes and for some reason they can't handle it, they'll give a good recommendation for a mechanic in town that will do great work for a fair price. THERE'S A REASON THEY'VE BEEN IN BUSINESS THIS LONG! They saved me over $200 from what the shysters at Firestone said I needed (a lot of needless work). I should have listened to my friends (and the reviews) and went to Jake's first. Great work, fair prices, and Jake himself even came out to shake my hand and chit-chat. The rest of the staff were all smiles and friendly as well. I didn't have an appointment and they were slammed (a clear sign that people trust and believe in them), but they still got me in and done and out the door within a few hours. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! I would give Jake's Brakes more than five stars if I could. Have been going to Jake's for almost 40 years with vehicles ranging from old GM Suburbans with over 200,000 miles to five different Lexus's. They do outstanding work, but their best attribute is honesty. I trust them. They often have told me that I had additional life in my brakes and all they needed was an adjustment, when they could have sold me a complete brake job. While their primary specialty is brakes, they also do excellent front end work which they don't advertise (they should). The people at Jakes are excellent mechanics, but they are even better people. The most honest car place I have ever been! I've owned my car for 6 years and never had the brakes checked. I went to Jake's (because of the reviews) and was expecting them to tell me I needed a bunch of work. They could have replaced everything and I would have believed them. Instead, they were done within an hour, told me what needed to be fixed and what didn't, and had it fixed in no time. I second that sentiment. I've been taking my vehicles to Jake since I was in High School (longer ago than I care to admit). Jake has always done an excellent job at a fair price, and his techs are first rate. He will never sell you something you don't need (he'll even try to talk you out of wasting your money if you're bent on doing it anyway). I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that whenever my cars need brake work, I ONLY take it to Jake. Here's an example - I needed an alignment on my older Mercedes. Jake has an alignment machine, but Jake confessed that it did not have the degree of motion needed for older Mercedes cars. I noted the make/model of his alignment machine. Two other shops with the same machine told me "yeah, no problem, bring it in". In other words, they were more than happy to take my money for an inadequate alignment, but Jake was not. Like the previous reviewer said, "I wish there were more like him". How true indeed. read more
