What wizardry is this? Yummy cakes that are dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, refined sugar-free, and RAW?! When can I move in please?
This is a new business that began life as a stall in a Glasgow food festival, and proved so popular that owner Poppy Murricane decided to set up shop here. It's a tricky location, situated just off Maryhill Road in the wee dead-end spur that runs down the back of the bed shop; perhaps a little too fringe for the west end, but it's handy enough from St George's X subway station and it's certainly well worth making the pilgrimage.
The cakes (of which there is a good selection) are absolutely yummy and I could easily have eaten one of each just to sample them. As it was, I chose a pistachio and coconut cake and managed a bite of my companion's mint chocolate one, so I at least have a reasonable representation of the merchandise. They have snack bites as well as cakes, but I'll have to wait until I return to sample those.
Poppy told us that she will be adding some savouries to the menu next week, mainly soup and hummus/dips sort of thing, I shall be looking forward to sampling those. She also does catering and can give you a menu for this on request, as well as supplying several outlets around Glasgow and farther afield.
The only thing that stops me from giving 5 stars is the coffee, which could be better. It's not bad by any means, but there's stiff competition in this area and it's not up to the bar set by the more artisanal coffee houses around. But you don't come here for the coffee, here it's all about the cakes, and they are most definitely 5-star. read more
