I want to share my incredibly frustrating experience with Rattigan and Sons to warn others. We hired them to install floating bamboo flooring in our 1,600 sqft condo, and it has been a total disaster.
First, the flooring installation was a complete mess. Austin and his crew ignored installation instructions, leaving us with visible gaps and a ridiculous ridge popping up in the middle of the living room. They damaged our door moldings and walls around the door because they did not follow instructions and use a jam saw to undercut --leaving ugly marks and damage around almost every door frame. It's hard to believe these guys are licensed contractors.
Then came the stairs. We were told they needed to be brought up to code, so we signed an addendum and paid more. But when we finally got to inspect the work, it was clear that the rises were uneven. I measured the steps and one was as short as 5-7/8" while another was 7-7/8"! This is basic stuff, and it's downright dangerous.
Despite repeated requests for fixes, including a visit from a city building inspector who confirmed the stairs weren't to code, Rattigan and Sons just shrugged it off. Sean, the project manager, promised to supervise everything but left early for an appointment, breaking his word both to supervise Austin and to discuss the floors. Austin was left to finish the stairs alone, and it's obvious he rushed the job, with uneven rises that make it a hazard and for a second time, not built to code. The treads were not even securely attached when Austin left without saying anything about being back - he literally took off while I was talking to a neighbor on our back deck, I saw him drive away.
We've asked for a partial refund to cover the costs of fixing their shoddy work, but all we've gotten is radio silence and excuses. Sean even hinted about involving lawyers, but it's been crickets since then.
Honestly, our experience with Rattigan and Sons has been nothing short of a nightmare. If you value your home and safety, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These guys clearly can't deliver what they promise. read more
