This review is for the Christmas market in the Rathauspark. Vienna is a fantastic city to visit during the Christmas season. There are a number of Christmas markets in various parks and squares in the central city. These are within
walking distance of one another so you can visit as many as you have the stamina for in an evening. The markets are comprised of small kiosks which sell Christmas ornaments, refreshments, etc. There are crowds but everything is clean and orderly. I was there with my wife and my daughter, her husband and their two children. With the kids it was an amazing Christmas experience. My daughter and I also attended a midnight mass on Christmas Eve at the Jesuit church. We aren't Catholic and speak no German but we felt very welcome and Silent Night gives the same uplifting feeling in either language. This was perhaps the high point of the visit for me. We rented a vrbo near the central part of the city and enjoyed dining in (including Christmas dinner) as well as the many restaurants nearby. I had not been to Vienna in many years and had forgotten what a lovely city it is. Great museums, dining and courteous, helpful people. Maybe it was the time of year but Vienna seems less crowded and touristy than many European cities have become. We had a really great family experience. read more
