At my first appointment with Dr. Telis, he was able to show me x-rays moments after taking them, on a screen that sits right in the room. (A+ for technology!) He went to work right away, and developed a plan to get some much needed work done. I'm very appreciative that Dr. Telis and his team listened to my concerns, addressed what was most urgent first, and suggested a reasonable care plan moving forward. The folks at the front desk are very friendly. They call prior to the appointment to confirm. The day after major appointments, they call to see how I'm feeling. They also greet me by name each time I arrive. They were also very reasonable when it came to creating a billing/payment plan. When I found out I would need extensive dental work, they checked what my insurance would cover, and then were willing to allow me to make payments over time to cover what I was responsible for. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the services rendered by the Chevy Chase Dental team. The front desk, dental hygienists and doctors are all very personable. Dr. Telis is very personable, explaining what's happening with each procedure while doing the work. He and his assistants have put me at ease when I felt anxious about what's going on prior to and during the procedures. I would highly recommend the team at Chevy Chase Dental Center to anyone who's looking for a practice that is friendly, uses the latest technology, and does thorough work! Thank you Chevy Chase Dental Center!

Severe dental anxiety and a few years of no dental insurance left me needing work that could not be…read moreprocrastinated anymore. I choose this place because they had good reviews from other people with dental anxiety. The first two visits, I saw a female doctor I couldn't catch her name. She and her assistant put me at relative ease. She did x-rays, a deep cleaning, a removal, and bone graft. I managed to sit through it without freaking out, largely due to the demeanor of the dentist. My hands were shaking but they gave me a stress ball to squeeze and I made it through. Next I was scheduled to return and get the stitches removed and some fillings done. After the bone graft took, she planned to do an implant. The work order was written up and approved by me. But on the day of my visit, I got a call saying the female dr was out on a family emergency. But I'd be seen by Dr Lim. Ok... Well, Dr Lim came into the room. The dental assistant told me that he was quiet, but was a great dentist who specialized in root canals. I was already nervous, and Dr Lim's bedside manner did not improve. First, he wasn't just quiet, he kept dropping and adjusting my chair without warning, jerking my body around. Without reviewing notes, he removed the stitches (I had to tell them where they were). Then looked at xrays, and growled, "I'm going to do a root canal." and left the room. The front desk lady came in with a new work order and cost estimate. Dr Lim basically ignored everything that the other dentist did, and just wanted to do a root canal in a tooth that the other dentist didn't mention. When I asked about the other work, the desk lady fetched the paperwork. Together, with the root canal and cap, planned implant, and fillings, it was more than I could swing. At this point, my anxiety was very high. Dr Lim came back in the room to explain why I needed the root canal. He pointed to the x-rays, which I don't know how to read. He said, in a very hostile tone, that if I didn't get it fixed, the cavity would just get worst. He said he didn't see the point of the planned implant when I needed other work on teeth that were closer to the front of my mouth. During our interaction, he demonstrated that he hadn't reviewed my prior treatment notes by saying he'd address a problem with my teeth that the other dentist had already fixed (but still showed up on the original x-rays). I didn't give consent, so Dr Lim left the room. I decided to just leave with the stitches being removed, and not get any more dental work done that day. I wasn't prepared for a root canal, having gone in expecting a mild day of fillings. Before I left, I expressed that my confidence was shaken by the fact that the two different dentists didn't agree on a single plan of action for what work was the highest priority. I have no doubt that I need a fair amount of work, but I wasn't happy with the first doctor's treatment plan being belittled by the second doctor. The front desk lady said she'd bring the issue to the head dentist, Dr Sanna, and ask him to prioritize dental work with the two doctor's differing plans in mind. She said she'd get back to me Monday (it was Friday). I left, and proceeded to have a full blown panic attack. No one from the dentist office called me to follow up on the issue. Not that Monday, or in the weeks after.

Not only thorough and knowledgeable, he's also friendly and really puts you at ease with his jovial sense of humor. It was also nice to not have a dentist trying to push lots of extras and services on me that I didn't want - like he evaluated the alignment of my teeth, perceived that I'd had braces in the past and possibly a retainer, and while giving me an honest assessment of how my top teeth are more evenly aligned than my bottom teeth, he didn't make a fuss about trying to convince me to get another retainer (as other dentists have tried to do). Honest, thorough, and not pushy - hard to find all of those qualities in a single dental practitioner these days. Dr. Davoudian did my tooth cleaning himself, and his dental assistant Mickey, who is also lovely and a total riot, did my x-rays. I wish I'd caught the name of the receptionist too, because she was also wonderful, really thorough, personable and helpful, and I'd like to give her proper recognition. But I will next time! This was ine of my most pleasant and EFFICIENT dental visits in years, so I am actually looking forward to my follow-up in 6 months!

I don't plan on returning to that office again.

BAD: WAAAAY overpriced. I was quoted $2,200 for a single onlay with no help from insurance apparently. I think it's a premium practice; platinum dentistry at platinum prices.

I'm going to post this review for both District Smiles and Mint Dental, since they're two locations…read moreof the same business and dentists work at both locations. First, the people who work here are really, really nice which is why I had been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. But their scheduling, business, and billing practices have made it so I never ever want to go back. In July, I went in for a checkup and was told that I needed a crown replacement. The crown didn't hurt and I was preparing for an extended trip and super busy but they assured me that they had a new procedure in which they take off the old crown, scan the tooth, and then 3-D print the permanent crown and install it *all in the same day*. Cool, right? EXCEPT, day of, they....couldn't work the scanner. Not that the scanner was broken (had them confirm this in the aftermath, while trying to figure out what went wrong and who was at fault)--The people that the practice had scheduled to work the procedure could not figure out how to use it--they spent what seemed like hours trying to scan my mouth (this sucked, by the way, and hurt) and produced such a giant file that it wouldn't upload to the 3-D printer. So, after hours of waiting, they slapped on a (badly placed) temp crown, and sent me on my way to come back and do they whole thing again a week later--this time with Dr. Kassem, who might be the only person in the practice who knows how to work the machine. But you know what? Even after all of that, I went back and had a filling done a week later--they were that nice! The filling, and the crown, once it was in, have been fine: this is not a review of the actual dentistry, only how they run the business. I've been burned--badly--by dentist/insurance stuff before, so I made sure that they preauthorized the procedure with my insurance and asked for a guarantee that the quoted and billed price would be the final. I was assured that it was, and assumed my balance was zero. This week, *six months later*, I got--via email, totally without explanation---a random link to a bill for $34. I couldn't even log in to see what it was for (their billing software is pretty janky and doesn't look secure--I thought it was spam at first) so I called them and, very nicely, they told me that insurance had not covered one part of the procedure (which may have been their fault, actually) and very nicely asked me to pay the balance. After all of that, and over $34, I lost it. It may be petty of me, but it's also petty (and possibly unethical) of them, especially since the procedure itself was a nightmare. Why would they wait so long to bill me, without any explanation, over a botched procedure, and renegging on their guarantee of up-front pricing? And then, even after I questioned them about this, why would they double down, especially given that they had been at fault? It felt like a shakedown, honestly. I paid it, but i will never, ever, ever go back again, no matter how nice--$34 this time could be $340 (or hell, $3400) next time, and I'm not taking any chances. So, the actual dentistry is fine (ultimately), the people are great, but practices--in multiple ways--are sloppy enough to give me pause. I need a dental practice I can trust, and this ain't it.

WATCH OUT: surprise bills!…read more After establishing care and getting my teeth cleaned, I learned I needed to have a few cavities filled. When I scheduled the appointment, the front desk staff showed me an itemized bill for the fillings, including what my insurance would cover and what would be out-of-pocket costs. This was towards the end of 2025. The out-of-pocket costs were just over the remaining amount in my FSA, so I scheduled the procedure for the end of year. I was very happy with the fillings and paid my outstanding bill. A month later, I receive a notification for a bill over $500. Confused, I reviewed the services listed in my online portal and saw that all were listed as paid. I called the Brandywine office and was told that my insurance had not covered as much as they expected, despite Brandywine providing an itemized bill when I scheduled the service, and the cost for the error was now being passed on to me. They offered me a 12% discount, implying that this made up for their error. The most infuriating part is that if they had let me know up front that the itemized bill was just an estimate or that they were unsure about how much my insurance would cover, I could have delayed the fillings by 2 weeks and used my 2026 FSA to cover all of the costs. Instead, I ended up stuck with a surprise bill and minimal compassion about its impact. While I was happy with the dentist and dental hygienist, I am so put off by and frustrated with the front desk staff that I will not be returning. And based on many of the reviews, this sounds like common practice. Beware!
