I'm going to post this review for both District Smiles and Mint Dental, since they're two locations of the same business and dentists work at both locations. First, the people who work here are really, really nice which is why I had been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. But their scheduling, business, and billing practices have made it so I never ever want to go back. In July, I went in for a checkup and was told that I needed a crown replacement. The crown didn't hurt and I was preparing for an extended trip and super busy but they assured me that they had a new procedure in which they take off the old crown, scan the tooth, and then 3-D print the permanent crown and install it *all in the same day*. Cool, right? EXCEPT, day of, they....couldn't work the scanner. Not that the scanner was broken (had them confirm this in the aftermath, while trying to figure out what went wrong and who was at fault)--The people that the practice had scheduled to work the procedure could not figure out how to use it--they spent what seemed like hours trying to scan my mouth (this sucked, by the way, and hurt) and produced such a giant file that it wouldn't upload to the 3-D printer. So, after hours of waiting, they slapped on a (badly placed) temp crown, and sent me on my way to come back and do they whole thing again a week later--this time with Dr. Kassem, who might be the only person in the practice who knows how to work the machine. But you know what? Even after all of that, I went back and had a filling done a week later--they were that nice! The filling, and the crown, once it was in, have been fine: this is not a review of the actual dentistry, only how they run the business. I've been burned--badly--by dentist/insurance stuff before, so I made sure that they preauthorized the procedure with my insurance and asked for a guarantee that the quoted and billed price would be the final. I was assured that it was, and assumed my balance was zero. This week, *six months later*, I got--via email, totally without explanation---a random link to a bill for $34. I couldn't even log in to see what it was for (their billing software is pretty janky and doesn't look secure--I thought it was spam at first) so I called them and, very nicely, they told me that insurance had not covered one part of the procedure (which may have been their fault, actually) and very nicely asked me to pay the balance. After all of that, and over $34, I lost it. It may be petty of me, but it's also petty (and possibly unethical) of them, especially since the procedure itself was a nightmare. Why would they wait so long to bill me, without any explanation, over a botched procedure, and renegging on their guarantee of up-front pricing? And then, even after I questioned them about this, why would they double down, especially given that they had been at fault? It felt like a shakedown, honestly. I paid it, but i will never, ever, ever go back again, no matter how nice--$34 this time could be $340 (or hell, $3400) next time, and I'm not taking any chances. So, the actual dentistry is fine (ultimately), the people are great, but practices--in multiple ways--are sloppy enough to give me pause. I need a dental practice I can trust, and this ain't it. read more

I've read the other reviews here and I will start by saying, so far so good! Yes, the building is outdated and the elevator seems like it is going to stop working at any given moment but that's no fault of District Smiles. The office is on the 2nd floor so after trying the elevator upon arrival, I decided I'll be using the stairs from here on out. Setting up my appointment and rescheduling it with the office manager, William, was such a breeze. He was very kind, courteous, and very helpful. He is a very personable person. I also loved that you can listen to your preferred music station on Pandora as you're getting your dental work done... that was a first for me. The dental assistant was nice enough. No complaints or anything extraordinary there. She took pictures of my teeth and did not have to take x-rays since I had them done recently. Dr. Linder was my dentist and I really enjoyed having her as my dentist. I've had 5 different dentists in my adulthood and she is one of the good ones. She was very informative, knowledgeable, and took great care in cleaning my teeth. I also want to say I really appreciate how District Smiles did not feel like they were out to get additional money with unnecessary procedures... that's how I felt at my previous dentist and District Smiles is a breath of fresh air! The only thing I'd see as an area of improvement is to make some of the rooms feel less sterile. I saw photos of some rooms with green counters and cabinets and that feels more welcoming than being in a room that has everything white or a light grey. That's nothing major or worth deducting a star for though. Went for a treatment 8 months ago which was an emergency consultation, I specifically requested that they check that it was in network and pre approved before visiting and was told it was all covered. I have now nearly 8 months later, received an outstanding bill from them. They have been incredibly unprofessional and are claiming for a charge that was not consistent with the visit. I had an emergency issue and did not go for a general consultation. They have been paid by MetLife for the consultation and are requesting additional funds. Please see the last communication whereby Metlife could not contact their offices for weeks. Not by phone, text or email, absolutely pathetic. I did not go there for a general consultation and would never have accepted to go there had they not lied to me and told me it was pre approved and in network. For them to now claim otherwise is fraud. They act without impunity, as they feel the patient has no rights and they operate as such. read more

Was not a good experience. Every time I went for a 6 month cleaning I had a new dentist? Not sure why there is so much turnover? I had cavities on my wisdom teeth which the previous dentist had told me I'd need to have them removed, the next dentist said I could get them filled. The filling messed up my bite for 4 months and when I went back a second time to have it fixed they told me to wait for it to heal. A month later I was still in agonizing pain and finally went to another dentist who basically fixed it in one session. Would not recommend. read more

I've been to District Smiles 3 times, but just once since Mint Dental got involved. I will never go again--the dental services were fine, thus the second star, but the management of the place is the worst. No one answers phones, you have to text to get an appointment. You may miss the callback, so expect setting up an appointment to take at least a week unless you do it in person. I imagine that no emergencies are accommodated? Then, the estimates. My estimate was $137. I left having paid over $570. I did expect to pay extra for a patched tooth, but that was $150. No apology, itemized bill or warning that they were doing an extra ~$285 in work. I have had two cleaning at this office in 2020. They took precautions, temperature checks and COVID surveys at each visit and I felt safe. During both my visits Dr. Majd had been wonderful every time! Both him and his hygienists are meticulous and take their time making sure your teeth are clean and healthy. By far the best dentist I have been to. They are kind, professional, on time, and clean! I have been to them for regular cleanings, as well as fillings and a crown and the service was exceptional each time. Dr. Linder and Dr. Majd are both wonderful - they are very patient and kind and will do whatever they can to make you feel comfortable. They take the time to go over your treatment with you and help you understand procedures and any treatment plans they may recommend. William is always beyond helpful with scheduling appointments and explaining insurance coverage, as well as payment options for more expensive services. I have been to this dentist twice now, the first time for a new patient check-up, and the second time to replace some old fillings. Both visits were excellent and the care was very thorough and gentle. William on the front desk is so friendly, and kindly talked me through how US dental insurance works (I'm a recent immigrant so am unfamiliar with the system here). He also offered me a choice of drinks when I arrived in the office for my appointment, which I appreciated as it was a hot day. Ellie the dental assistant is also kind and polite, and her conversation put me at ease. After my initial check-up, Dr Samirah was thorough in explaining the clinical reasons for his treatment recommendations, but I didn't feel any pressure to agree to something that I did not want to pay for. He even left the room while I made my final decision, which I then communicated to the office manager - so I really didn't feel pressured at all. Everyone was friendly professional and made the dentist experience great. I had a few appointments over the timeframe of a month and was guided every step of the way. I'm not going to convince you that going to the dentist is suddenly a trip to Disneyworld, but this office is pretty much as good as it gets. Very friendly, VERY organized, they run a really tight ship, but still do it with a great attitude. One of the biggest takeaways for me, and this cannot be overstated, is that they make a concerted effort to understand your insurance up front, explain options thoroughly, and ensure that any next steps are transparent. I unfortunately have some fillings in my future, but I feel really clear about what that's going to entail, and I'm getting everything taken care of soon. The combo of great healthcare and a really well-run office is excellent. The worst dental experience of my 50 years on Planet Earth. What are you people smoking in DC? The other 4 reviewers. Seriously, I drove 20 miles from Gaithersburg after giving up my dentist of 20 years. Took this Dr. Curvacous 2 freakin hours just to do my x-rays. She needs to retire. I arrived at 1:30 to fill out there pamphlet size info. packet. and approaching 3pm I was not even close to done. $59 freakin intro. offer for a cleaning and check up. You don't treat new patients like money finders. Everytime she pulled an x-ray panel she said something negative. So disheartening to be criticized and abused like that. I had one chipped tooth she NEVER addressed. They actually thought I had nothing better to do ALL afternoon even though I showed up in shirt and tie obviously I had to get back to work. I would not have gotten out of there until 5pm. EASILY. NEVER AGAIN. They get 1/2 Star cause my Mom actually likes the practice for some reason. Close to home do her. 1/2 Star cause the receptionist was pleasant, cute and possibly doable. Plenty of decent respectful dentists in the area. Do your homework people. Some people need to retire and enjoy their twilights years and not make others miserable. read more

It was a delightful visit to the new space! We followed Dr Seaberry from Marcowitz on 19th St to her new private practice. She is has an AMAZING manner with children, oriented my son about the equipment she used, and stressed the importance of flossing. All throughout the visit I could see my son was comfortable. We were really lucky to find Dr Seaberry and will stick with her for the duration. Office manager William is pleasant, professional, and efficient. The building is dated but once you open the office door to the practice, it looks like it's just been renovated. Nice to have LaCroix water available! read more

I've been going to Dr. Cuellar since 2007. I'm loyal to her because she does great work--especially on repairing my chipped front tooth! She's gentle and effective in encouraging you to take better care of your teeth. Plus, she has Saturday hours which is a great help for me since it's difficult taking time off from work during the week. I highly recommend her. read more

I have been here twice. The first experience at this clinic (last year with a different Doctor) was pleasant so I decided to return for my routine exam and cleaning. This time around, scheduling was quite easy. William, the office manager was flexible and responsive. However, the actual visit left a bad taste. I was surprised to see a different Doctor there who I had not worked with before. He put me through an excessive 40 minute imaging session before even beginning to clean my teeth. Then, the actual cleaning was a rush job. Finally, the doctor pulled me into his office and attempted a high pressure, door closed sales pitch for new fillings. Sure, the work probably needs to be done soon - but the approach he took was unprofessional and uncomfortable. I have been a patient at District Smiles for the last year and a half. During that time, my cleanings and appointments were wonderful. The dentists and staff have been professional, thorough, and courteous. Unfortunately, District Smiles has recently been sold and under different ownership. This resulted in changes to the insurance they are in/out of network with. I strongly suggest that any former customers (and new ones) ensure that their insurance covers the treatments they are about to receive before returning to or starting to receive care here to avoid surprises like I did. At that appointment, I was told that my insurance would cover my expenses, but that they required me to pay upfront. Therefore, I expected to receive a refund. Later, I found out that District Smiles received additional payment from my insurance, which they kept for themselves rather than returning to me. Be careful with this dentist office and their payment structures as I feel that they are using shady and unethical practices when it comes to billing. Since, I've switched to a different dentist office which has provided me better, friendlier service for much less cost. I really wish District Smiles wasn't under new ownership because I appreciated the previous business much better than this new one. read more

I sort of inherited Dr. Haidar when my regular Dentist Dr. Cuellar retired. I must say that writing a review about a dentist is a bit of a stretch do to the nature of what they do, however, Dr Haidar gets very high marks from me. Her concern for my well being "Do you feel any pain" is indeed gratifying., Her procedures while spending two hours "in the Chair" produced NO PAIN. She did an excellent job at a reasonable price.
