I love Tend. I live in Columbia Heights and usually go to thus one at 14th and U. I needed to cancel because I was sick. I called to let them know that morning and said I could come in, but I was sniffly and coughing and felt like it would not be nice for the staff. They waived the cancellation fee (I see some of you don't like getting charged for cancellations, but try being on the other side of that equation some time... people can be pretty flippant about wasting your time). Anyway, they waived the cancellation but there were no new appointments available there until March (it was Jan 28 when I had to cancel). So I went on the app, and scheduled an appointment for Feb 1, saturday at Navy Yard. The hygienists at both locations have been the best. Great, gentle technique. Friendly and professional. The offices are beautiful and well maintained. The business model Tend is perfect. Let a large company maintain a consistent quality environment, equipment, office management, billing, payroll etc etc. Use that economy of scale to pay staff well and give them benefits. Free up the dentists and dental staff to provide the best service they can and give us a good way to feedback our good and bad experiences. You can have a bad experience anywhere sometimes...but IMO Tend offers the best dental experience more consistently than any place I've been before. read more

Worst dental experience of my life. I visited Tend in December for a cleaning. At the cleaning I was told I needed 3 fillings replaced. I came back a couple of weeks later and was told the process would involve getting temporary fillings placed, and coming back 2 weeks later for permanent porcelain fillings made in a lab. This was never explained to me before, but I naively agreed. The temporary fillings were horribly painful, and when I called the office to ask for help, I didn't receive a call back for days. During this time I consulted my hometown dentist who told me that in his opinion (a) at 25 years old, it is VERY unlikely I actually needed fillings replaced and (b) many modern dental practices have the technology to do porcelain fillings the same day. When I returned for my permanent fillings, one did not fit. The dentist repeatedly drilled my tooth further, and then told me it did not fit and I would have to come back in another two weeks. I asked for a refund to go somewhere else to get it done the same day but was denied. Eventually I had the permanent "porcelain fillings" placed 2 weeks later. After all of this I was still in A LOT of pain, and decided to see a different dentist because I had lost trust in Tend. That dentist took one look in my mouth and say "Oh wow, I understand why you are in pain...we don't do that here." Turns out, I had been given partial crowns by Tend, not replacement fillings - an entirely different treatment. Not only that, but after taking xrays we found that they drilled so close to my nerve that I may need a root canal now to correct their terrible dental work. In short: I had a dental procedure done to my mouth that I DID NOT CONSENT TO, did not need in the first place, and now am experiencing additional dental issues as a direct result of. In the interest of keeping this review short I am leaving out weeks of rude phone calls, additional charges being added to my bill, and other odd practices - including the second tend dentist telling me she felt uncomfortable working on my teeth because I was a different tend dentists patient and she didn't want to be liable if something went wrong. I've been a client at Tend for over three years, and up until my most recent visit I have always had a great experience. The front desk team, dental hygienists and doctors have consistently been kind, professional, and very informative during each of my appointments. I go in regularly for cleanings every four months and have always felt well taken care of. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. I'm not sure if there have been changes in staff or management, but my interaction with the employee handling post-visit billing and follow-up was very unpleasant. When I arrived for my appointment, I was initially told that I was a first-time client, which was incorrect. After I clarified that I've been coming there for years, the issue was resolved and I proceeded with my cleaning. At the end of my appointment, I requested fluoride, which I know is an additional cost and have always paid for without issue. During checkout, the employee asked if they could charge the card on file. I simply asked her to confirm the last four digits of the card to ensure the correct information was being used. She provided the numbers, they matched my card, and everything seemed fine. The following day, I received a call from the same female employee stating that my payment had not gone through. When I asked her to confirm the card information they had on file, she gave me completely different numbers than what she had provided the day before. I explained that those numbers were not my card and reminded her that we had already confirmed my card information at checkout the previous day. Her response was simply, "Well it didn't go through so I need a new card." I tried to explain again that we had just verified the card together and that the information she was now reading was not correct. She continued repeating the same statement without addressing the discrepancy. Since I was at work and did not have my card with me at the time, I told her I would call back shortly with the information. When I called back later, no one answered. Today I called again and spoke with a different employee. He was extremely helpful and professional. I explained the situation and he took the time to review my account with me. He confirmed that there was actually no pending balance and explained that my insurance typically covers my cleaning. He also shared that if there were any remaining balance, I would usually be notified within 2-3 weeks after the insurance processes the claim -- not the next day. I also asked him to read back the card information on file, which he did without hesitation and in a very respectful and helpful manner. This experience was frustrating and disappointing because it was completely inconsistent with the level of service I've come to expect from Tend over the past three years. I hope this feedback helps address the issue so that other long-time clients do not have a similar experience. read more

EDIT 1/29: Rih messaged me on 1/11 to set up a call. I responded on 1/16, when I saw the message, and never heard from her again. It seems to me like the concerned responses to reviews are all performative. DO NOT GO HERE. I went for an in-network emergency visit in April 2024 which required antibiotics and a follow-up visit a couple of days later to fully resolve the issue. I assumed the second visit would be considered part of the existing emergency situation, but it was billed separately as a cleaning -- I wasn't due for a cleaning, so my insurance didn't cover the $375. I was not informed ONCE that this visit would be billed as a cleaning, and I even received emails from Tend a few days later reminding me that it was time to schedule a cleaning... so even their system didn't realize I had supposedly been in for one. It was impossible to get through to their billing department and when I finally did -- after endless back and forth with billing and the clinical team -- I was effectively told there was nothing they could do. They told me I could open a case to dispute the charge, and when I followed up a few days later they said I had no balance with them. I even received an email in October confirming I did not have a balance on my account. Lo and behold, right before the holidays, they changed their mind again and I received another $375 bill -- 8 months after my visit. When I tried to call them just now, at 4 p.m., their offices were closed. I feel like I've been given the run around and would give this place -10000000 stars if I could. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. They spend more on marketing than on patient care. Remember you are a patient when you go to the dentist - not a client or a member. First - they LIED about what my insurance would cover. The office staff are rubes and have no idea what they are doing. They told me I was allowed a cleaning at x price and that was NOT true. Second - my routine cleaning ended up being some kind of aggressive gum cleaning. Tend LIED and said I knew about this. When I asked my gum specialist they told me it was fine but unnecessary. A Third - I needed a specialist to have my xrays. They contacted Tend numerous times and Tend never sent over the xrays. When the specialist sent over a treatment plan Tend never recognized it. I called to make an appointment and all Tend could tell me was the treatment plan from their doctor that was to upsell me nightguards. DON'T GO HERE! It's pretty but they are just in it for the gram. The authorities need to be contacted as I don't think they are practicing properly. And they won't recognize your complaints until you publicly post about them. I am reaching out on behalf of my boyfriend, who recently had a less than satisfactory experience at your dental office. He had scheduled an appointment for a check-up and extraction for an implant, as recommended by one of your staff members. However, upon arrival, he was informed that only a consultation would be provided, despite being initially told that the extraction would be done to begin the process. Additionally, there were discrepancies in the charges he incurred during his visit. While he agreed to a charge of $250 with the receptionist, he later discovered that an additional $365 had been charged after hours, without his consent. When he inquired about this discrepancy, he was met with vague responses and no clear explanation. He call several times and spoke to several people. Even emails were sent stating that a refund was going to be issued. Despite numerous attempts to resolve these issues and secure a refund for the overcharge and consultation, he has faced challenges in obtaining a satisfactory resolution. Today, after 11 days of follow-up calls, the receptionist contacted him asking for clarification on the refund amount, further adding to his frustration and confusion. AGAIN, he called and spoke to several people already. WHY IS THE Receptionist CALLING AND NOT AN ACCOUNTS PAYABLE?!?!? I understand that mistakes can happen, and I trust that you will take the necessary steps to address these concerns promptly and effectively. We would appreciate a prompt resolution to this matter and a full refund. It's been a crazy almost two weeks. It's unprofessional and inconvenient. read more

First visit after trying to find a new dentist in my area, so this review is based on that initial visit. They gave me a walk through of the office, which is bright and spacious. Cleaning was thorough, nothing short of expected but nothing exciting either. They did try to upsell me on Invisalign to fix some crowding in my teeth and gave me a referral that I don't plan on using. No instruction on continuous teeth health. I also left with a goodie bag - their own branded toothbrush and toothpaste in a reusable bag. Not sure the quality of these items (saving them for my next trip). I would have preferred an established brand instead. No floss either. read more

I am so sad to write this review because I actually did have a good office and treatment experience with Tend. I had some fillings five months ago, and just received a surprise $700 bill. That is on top of the $500 I paid in the office at the time AND the amount paid by insurance. Very very frustrating and I'm not looking forward to the process of contesting this bill. My boyfriend and I both went here for cleanings. At mine, they told me that I had cracks forming in my front teeth that was a result of my bottom teeth putting too much pressure on my front teeth. They told me I'd need at least 6 months of Invisalign to correct this issue, which of course, was thousands of dollars. I went to Kurma orthodontics (highly recommend) to get a second opinion, and they said there are no problems with my bite and my bottom teeth were not hitting my upper teeth at all, let alone enough to cause damage. My boyfriend had a similar experience, where he went for a cleaning and they said they saw cracks in his back tooth and he'd need a crown and potentially a root canal. He then got a second opinion from his dentist back home and he said that was an extremely aggressive treatment plan and he'd advise against it. read more

Had a nice experience with the 14th and U office. I had a previous consultation at another dentist practice that was calling for work that was not needed. The Tend office did a full dental review and did things in a way that lead to seamless next steps. I came for a replacement crown and a cleaning, so it's nice that their office does all of the above. Was a patient here for several years (since the day they opened) but after my last visit on 08/25 I'm moving to a new dentists office. Took time off of work to go and arrived on time. Was not called back until 15 minutes later, and then they wanted to do X-Rays (standard practice for those should be every couple of years) which had been done the last time I was there 6 months before. I was told by the technician not to worry about it--then the Dentist came in and said that she needed the X-Rays (again, there were ones in my file that were less than a year old)--and after that, I just left. They were running behind, and using the X-Rays as a way to take up time. I just wanted my teeth cleaned. So I left. Tried to call their complaint line, and never heard back. Now they called me today to reschedule, and I've moved to another provider. It honestly feels like the staff has been reduced, and like its service is just not where it used to be. read more

The only really great thing I have to say about my experience, was the dentist herself. I was unsure on whether or not to try this place and left pretty underwhelmed. The place itself is clean, but the assistants were struggling with the equipment (one x-ray machine wasn't working) with some not even knowing how to use it (I was stuck in a full panel x ray machine waiting). The dentist herself was knowledgeable and really friendly! However the prescription she said she'd send for my emergency treatment never was sent to my pharmacy, and now the office is closed with no way for me to get in contact with someone who can send it through. I love the idea of a positive dental experience, but it seems like this office has overlooked basic principles of actually receiving quality dental care. TL;DR Upsell on on unnecessary dental work and predatory billing practices. Don't be surprised when hugely inflated bills over 1.5 years later. Truly the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. Can't speak for the current dentists working there now as the dentist I worked with has since left, but I will note that he also failed to properly complete 2 fillings resulting in the need to go back to have it fixed twice and left a sizable gap between two of my molars. Now I've received two bills 1.5 years later for $1,200+ on top of what I paid at the time of the visit because of insurance issues. Go check out their one start google reviews, BBB ratings and reddit, apparently this is a common issue with Tend. Don't fall for their messaging and esthetically pleasing branding/offices. They're not different. They gaslight you by pushing you into unnecessary dental work then charge you up the ass years later. Im sure a class action lawsuit will be popping up any day now. Don't let the glam fool you. Two visits here and have had problems with their billing both times. I understand their estimates can change, but I've had new unexpected bills appear 7 MONTHS after my treatment for "diagnostics" that weren't listed on the original estimate. And both bills I had referenced the provider not as "Tend" but as "Life Bridge Dental", which apparently is OUT-OF-NETWORK with CIGNA, when Tend is advertised as in network. They are either deliberately using this to overbill customers, or its gross incompetence. Either way, I don't trust them anymore. Once can be a mistake, but twice in a row isn't acceptable. I would rate my experience at Tend as 0/5 stars if I could. Go elsewhere - Tend scams you out of money and refuses to respond to complaints and inquiries. It's a predatory business. Find a real dentist and definitely avoid this place! While the dentist and dental hygienist were fine, the front desk staff and insurance team were both extremely unhelpful. After informing me that they were having issues validating my insurance, I paid out of pocket for my cleaning. Since then, I have had to go back and forth with Tend's insurance and customer care team to get reimbursed - my dental insurance is fully active and Tend is in network, so I should not have had to pay out of pocket. What is the point of having an "insurance team" if they refuse to help patients with insurance questions? A month later, and the issue has still not been resolved. Do not go here under any circumstances. Went here for a cleaning as a new patient. The staff were pleasant, but they didn't even perform 10 percent of a cleaning, and spent the whole hour trying to sell me other services. The "cleaning" did not include fluoride, expert flossing, or a toothpaste cleaning, all which are normally a part of a professional cleaning appointment. The scaling involved about 2 minutes of cleaning that I barely felt and did not remove any plaque or tartar. When I was ushered out I thought I was being taken to another room to begin my cleaning but it turns out that was the end of the visit. I was then given a "treatment plan" from the front desk that included an advanced cleaning that would cost $405. In total I was recommended additional cleaning and services that totaled $2,968. $1,900 of this total would not be covered by my Cigna/GEHA insurance. Don't be a sucker for the cool mobile app and TVs on the ceilings. They're just trying to lure you into their trap. read more

I went in for an emergency visit and I have no insurance. Right off the bat the girl at the front desk who checked me in was kind and helpful. The Dental assistant whom did my xray Kind! The Dentist Dr. Goode super kind. Here is my take I came with a very low budget yet I had a situation. I was honest about my financial situation and not once did I feel judged or pressured to make a choice infact they went through every option and scenario. They answered all my questions. What I need done is expensive and so I needed to shop around which they also said feel free to call around and get back to us were here to help. While I decided to book at another Dentist because of my financial situation I would absolutely recommend this office. I purchased insurance today and made sure Tend accepted it and will absolutely see them in the future. I really appreciated the openness. Thank You for making my experience pressure free and it really did feel like they wanted whatever was best for me . Im sending a little update here. After my appointment. Assuming I was charged the $220 i was quoted I get a call a week later saying i have an outstanding bill of $258. They state they never charged me? Not sure how or why and they charged me an additional $30 for some reason. They did nothing as this was just an emergency visit to asses tooth. The $220 was said to cover the entire fee. They took 3 X-rays on 1 took and listed each at $50 on bill other than telling me i need a root canal which they don't do nothing was done. This is a tad bit disappointing that the saw an opportunity to bill extra and went for it as someone who has no insurance. It did remind me though that the brief 20 mins i was in the lobby that day numerous people were being told at check in that they had outstanding bulls from their previous appointment yet all claimed they were never notified etc. This to me says they are not organized in the billing department and what they state up front is dishonest. I have decided to do all my work at Kenmore Family Dentistry and they are PHENOMENALand honest. I highly recommend if billing issues like this bother you it seems to be a trend for tend. read more

My hygienist was so kind and so knowledgeable, and she was very thorough and explained everything that was going on (since she knew I was a newbie!). I then received an additional charge of $500 a couple months later. They claimed my benefits had ran out but that was not what they had communicated at the appointment. I actually had a good experience my first time visiting Tend and would've left a good review based on that. However, I had a follow up appointment for today that was cancelled a few days ahead of time due to a Tend schedule change. I understand that this happens and was fine rescheduling. But when I called the number provided to reschedule, the soonest they could get me in was in over 3 months, which I've turned down for now. This is an appointment that is supposed to occur every six months so a greater than 3 month delay doesn't make sense. Again, I'd understand if I was the one doing the cancelling but Tend cancelled on me! This is a pretty absurd way to run a business. I know changes happen and can roll with them, but if the company does the cancelling, they should at the very least prioritize you for a new appointment. The "member specialists" are not localized, which leads to a very impersonal, corporate experience where they are seemingly not interested or incentivized to help in these situations. I'm very disappointed that I've wasted my time instead of finding a dentist that works with me. read more

I really like the concept of Tend and the individual healthcare workers, but there are some organizational/corporate issues they really need to work out. In the latest debacle, my provider left the practice at U Street where I am undergoing Invisalign treatment. Before leaving, she (on her won) offered to transfer my treatment to Navy Yard because it is closer to work/home for me. Great. Of course, it didn't happen. Instead, I received several calls from Tend asking me to schedule my appointment U Street, and each time, I had to remind them that the provider stated she would transfer it. Ultimately, I got a 5th call, stating that the doctor at the Navy Yard location asked "WHY" I wanted to transfer (because it is 15 mins from my home, instead of 40 mins for the U Street location). I then get another call that "Dr. Kim denied the transfer." Seriously? Yet again, just unnecessary chaos, disorganization, and frustration. read more
